RESCUE DOGS TRY PEANUT BUTTER FIRST TIME
LikeLiked by 3 people
when I was a kid, we had a big sweet Collie dog, and we would take a wad of peanut butter and smear it on the inside top of his mouth and watch him lick and lick and lick for an hour…and we laughed and hugged him for entertaining us…and he liked the peanut butter almost as well as popcorn balls…..

Problem ’round here ain’t givin’ it ’em, it’s keeping them outta it. We don’t be leaving no open PB jars within climbing reach.

makes for a great sandwich.

peanut butter and slobber…..best on white…don’t bother cutting off crust….

Hair and slobber are condiments when you have cats and dogs.

Babies and most dogs just go together. We have bunches of pix of out GGS curled up and sleeping with Daisy the Border Collie and Zauber. The dogs would see him asleep and curl up around him or he’d get sleepy and pull up the closest dog. Same same outside, whenever he was outside at least one of them rode…shepherd…over him.

BTW, the black dog looks just like Lucky and seems to share the same food-snitching proclivity.

this like watching my aussie cattle dog try to drag a huge stick into the house through the doggie door flap……until he figured out how to turn it on the end and push it through lengthwise….

We had a husky/border collie mix. My brother worked as a meat cutter, and would cut huge bones lengthwise, and bring them home. The dog would bury them in the snow, and every spring it looked like a dinosaur graveyard when the snow melted. The strange thing was he never buried them in the dirt!

maybe he didn’t like dirt on his bones…and the snow kept them from rotting…
I am reading two books, “How Dogs Think” and “What Do Dogs Know?”…I always thought that I understood about dogs as a human, but I want to know how dogs think and know about us humans.

I know this isn’t funny, but this pup is so beautiful, I had to post it’s picture. I do not think it is a golden, maybe it’s a field spaniel???
I just can’t stop looking at that sweet face!

I cannot read this without totally losing it….the older I grow, the more precious doggies become to me…as I think abandonment and loneliness become recognizable for the pain they create. Hope you do not mind me posting a sad one, but I am all out about rescues instead of purchasing pets now….

Prayer of a Stray
—————–
Dear God please send me somebody who’ll care!
I’m tired of running, I’m sick with despair
My body is aching, it’s so racked with pain
And dear God I pray as I run in the rain
That someone will love me and give me a home
A warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone
My last owner tied me all day in the yard
Sometimes with no water and God that was hard!
So I chewed my leash God; and I ran away
To rummage in garbage; and live as a stray
But now God I’m tired; and hungry and cold
And I’m Oh so afraid; that I’ll never grow old
They’ve chased me with sticks; hit me with stones
While I run the streets; just looking for bones
I’m not really bad God; please help if you can
For I have become just another; “victim of man!”
I’m wormy dear God; and I’m ridden with fleas
and all that I ever wanted; was an owner to please
If you find one for me God; I’ll try to be good
I won’t chew their shoes; and I’ll do as I should
I’ll love them; protect them; and try to obey
When they tell me to sit; to lie down or to stay!
I don’t think I’ll make it; too long on my own
Cause I’m getting so weak; and I’m Oh so alone
Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry
Cause I’m so afraid God; that I’m gonna die
I’ve got so much love; and devotion to give
That I should be given; a new chance to live
So dear God please; oh please; answer my prayer
and send me to somebody; who will really care
That is dear God; if You’re really there!

My Border Collie is a rescue. Her mom had a litter in the woods in N.C. and no one knows who they all belonged to. Mom was half-starved, but the pups (3) were in pretty good condition, and very young. I got her from the Pheonix Border Collie rescue. Drove 300 miles to get her. She was just a little thing, but very loving. The foster home took good care of her and her brothers. She’s not perfect, but she’s perfect to me and her Daddy!
We couldn’t ask for a sweeter, smarter and funny girl. And she can spell F-R-I-S-B-E-E!Go Isla!

Jacq….you are an angel in my eyes and thank you for letting your little girl dog give her love to you in exchange for making you happy and responsible for her well being.
my last rescue was left in a cardboard box at age 5 weeks, barely eyes open, at a Valero Gas Station on a Memorial Day weekend….dumped with no chance…and I happened to buy gas on the way back home….and I took him home and he is the joy of my life today…such a big wild frantic loving cattledog…..who would have known that I would be so blessed.

I have been trying to remember, but I think out of the 8 or so dogs in my life MAYBE one was NOT a rescue. Even the purebreds were rescues. They were all great dogs, and I miss them.

Ours was an adult, abandoned and squatting at a neighbor’s house. One day as I drove by the mailbox at an abandoned farm just up the street she was curled up by its mailbox…for no particular reason I opened the truck door, she jumped in and she’s been with us for nearly ten years.

Sorry, our BC doesn’t chase frisbees or fetch sticks – she’s gotta contract – D-E-A-D S-T-I-N-K-Y F-I-S-H is definitely in her lexicon, at one time she nursed the petrified forend of a long-dead gar fish for weeks.

Our rottweiler had a dead pigeon for a while. He really enjoyed throwing it up in the air and pretending to chase it.

They used to go out and kill something, eat half of it and bring the rest home for sharies. Gross but still, in many cases, preferable to Mickey D’s.

That’s so sad :-{ , and sadly true. (all but the last “if”)
LikeLike
I agree….and the answer to the last “if” is, IMO, up to us humans to prove to these innocent creatures….God expects us to take care of them….he gave us “dominion” over all animals…he gave us the job to protect and care for them…and not by passing laws for snail darters, but for adopting and raising a snail darter in person if that is what actually is called for. We get to represent a loving God on Earth while we are here getting the wonderment of life in this world.

Agreed, and well said. It is up to us (and not the gov’t “us”).

BTW, if the helmeted dog on the header had just a wee bit pointier muzzle it would be a dead ringer for our BD dog.
