Happy 60th birthday, Mighty Mac!

The Mackinac Bridge (/ˈmækɪnɔː/ MAK-in-aw) is a suspension bridge spanning the Straits of Mackinac to connect the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of the U.S. state of Michigan. Opened in 1957, the 26,372-foot (4.995 mi; 8.038 km) bridge (familiarly known as “Big Mac” and “Mighty Mac”) is the world’s 19th-longest main span and the longest suspension bridge between anchorages in the Western Hemisphere. The Mackinac Bridge is part of Interstate 75 and the Lakes Michigan and Huron components of the Great Lakes Circle Tours across the straits; it is also a segment of the U.S. North Country National Scenic Trail. The bridge connects the city of St. Ignace on the north end with the village of Mackinaw City on the south.

Just imagine being that guy or gal at Home Depot, renting a truck to this obviously Islamic devotee. Imagine what goes through your mind as you look at his facial hairstyle, his demeanor, his name. As you remember what ISIS has told Ummah members about renting trucks and using them for jihad. As you remember all the attacks worldwide for the last few years.

And you have to be AFRAID to say, “Yeah, hold on a minute. I’ll be right back, I just have to go talk to my supervisor.” Even with all that you know, all that you’ve seen. Because that would be Islamophobic, and you’d have the entire MSM descending upon your store for this horrific delay. Your supervisor would also be of the same mindset. So would the owner of the store.

For that matter, so would the local police. So would the State Police. So would the FBI.

They’re useless. All of them in the face of this, exist to put up the yellow tape and to draw chalk outlines around bodies. And then pretend to ask “Why? Why did this happen?” Even as they all know why, but are afraid to tell the truth.

A nation of cowards is done. Turn off the oven timer. It’s done. Stick a fork in it.

One day in the not too distant future the savages are going to coordinate attacks in all 50 states and the politicians are going to come out all wearing the same t-shirt “USA Strong” and declare that savages will not change our lives, they will keep killing us, and we will keep eating apple pie.

lovely, I find it hard to believe that the Moslems have such a blank spot on their planning papers – that they have not already coordinated a 50 state same-day attack – multiple attacks in both rural and urban areas……or maybe they know not to wake the sleeping giant? I don’t think they do know that –

Grant and I, sitting in west central MN for 18 yeas, 2 miles from the interstate, but “way out in the country” could never get over how little the natives there (4th-5th generation farms) understand the danger they were/are all in. And we also talked about when the Moslems would figure out to start attack that soft underbelly.

        Bad, bad situation.

I don’t think the Muslims understand that many of will take up arms if this happens because we never do anything about their attacks except wring our hands and say they won’t change us. Well they changed the people that they killed and maimed and their entire family. The “They won’t change us” chant makes me want to slap people silly.

Speaking of the collective “we” not the we as the people who post at Stella’s Place.

I will never ever forget the terror attack in England where the savages were running around shooting people and a man said “F*cking Muslims” the man who said this was chastised by a fellow Englishman for singling out Muslims. Unfortunately I believe many Americas would be like the chastiser.

My husband worked at Home Depot and loved it. Oh, goodness, I can imagine him eyeing that murderer up and down and grumbling at his supervisor and saying things like, “Don’t like. Don’t like it one bit. There’s something wrong here. I don’t care what the procedures are. I smell a rat.” And shaking his head with great significance as he walked away, having been warned by the supervisor that he can’t make judgments on the customers.

He had the ability to prevent much “shrinkage” (theft, in our world) at Home Depot because he always could smell a rat, and when there was one in the Fergus Falls or Salem HD doing some non-pay shopping, he just quietly observed and followed until they did the magic thing and left the store – and WHAM! They were captured on the sidewalk by those who could do that without damaging arthritic joints.

    https://spectator.org/listening-to-the-screams/

The nation is less socially hopeful and generous than in years leading up to Barack Obama’s presidency. In 2008, voters signed up for an untested junior Illinois senator who promised them racial harmony and a post-racial nation. They got Black Lives Matter and a war on cops instead. The retreat from faith in the charitable welfare state and its liberal narrative follows on bad experience.

It’s not natural disaster, financial collapse, or food and oil shortages that frightens middle America. It’s the real-estate-entrepreneur-cum-lunatic mowing down hundreds at a Las Vegas country music concert. It’s the jihadi from Uzbekistan barreling down the Manhattan bike path, shouting Allahu Akbar. It’s the unhappy parent in Riverside, California, holding his child’s elementary-school teacher hostage, killed by police fire after a six-hour standoff.

The Screamer at McDonald’s dares diners to complain to the authorities. She is drooling and moving in their direction. How did it come to this, weary Americans who pay the taxes and play by the rules ask themselves, upset they are being forced to think this way. Help, somebody, help, they plead silently. Who is listening to my screams?

To its dismay the nation’s middling element realizes that institutional power and values, public and private, are not moving in its favor and interests. It is asked repeatedly to respect and celebrate life-styles once considered shiftless, shameful, criminal, or insane, and if it does not, risk rebuke or condemnation. The protocols of high-minded judges, social engineers, and diversity administrators fall unevenly on it and its children, not on those cushioned by affluence and status.

Love or hate President Donald J. Trump, he is listening to the screams — and playing them to his political advantage.

Trump is a populist and, worse yet, a populist who’s already rich. Trash like the POtuS sell themselves to those who want to wield power from the shadows and, sadly, our government is shot through with them.
Between Clinton and the POtuS our country’s been dealt a number of blows, whether they are fatal will depend on how well we can preserve the Reagan-Trump populist legacy. If we give in to the Clinton-POtuS treasonous kleptarchy and allow monied powers to buy our country we’ll become a Ukraine-lite under a latter day Stalin, just as we came so close to under POtuS. But what the hell do I know, I’m over 60, white and live in Mississippi…three fatal strikes right off.

It was, all things considered, one of the CIA’s finest moments. I’m sure Vladimir Putin noticed, and was envious. I’m sure he took notes, especially on the first principle of all CIA operations: “plausible deniability.” I’m sure he’s gloating now that the “Russian meddling” story has been on the front page for weeks. I have a book from back in the 80s, as well as a DIA study, on Russian ‘maskirovska’, their doctrine of military deception. It predates the Communist revolution and is still in play. It encompasses political and foreign policy deception as a tool of combined military/national policy.
The US has known about maskirovka for decades, it’s bitten us in the buttski a number of times yet we have no comparable policy of our own and generation after generation of US foreign policy ‘experts’ from ivy league/prog universities believe they can tame the bear. The 800-pound bear in the living room continues to chew on us.
Personally I don’t fault Russia for meddling in US politics…and their meddling ain’t new. The Russian Communists have been cozying up to Rat pols for many decades but now that the Russians resemble RINOs the Rats are squeaking.
Let’s also not forget the US has diddled with foreign elections, Russian too, so when the chickens come home to roost you can’t really complain about the poop on the porch.

He has, as my ancestors might say, a “tough row to hoe”, but I think he, with God’s help, can turn our nation around. I am a news junkie, and every day brings an indictment against what we have silently sanctioned in the name of “tolerance” and, perhaps, “live and let live”. Am I the only one to notice that the other side only “talks these high aspirations”….they “walk” to a quite different drum beat? What to do is simple….we take our stands how we can…we object to violations of our principles…we trust God to continue “this good work” that only He could have initiated. Here’s a piece by Ann Corcoran that presents and summarizing very nicely the reality of the money money machine that is jointly owned by the Lutherans and the “refugee machine”. Take what she says here – it applies precisely to Minnesota.

“Lutherans” in this context is the ELCA (the “big” Lutheran group – as we biological Lutherans would call it because we/I know for a fact that there are thousands of Lutherans who are no longer part of that body because their brains and their spirits are still functional).

Absolutely infuriating and obvious. And yet it all churns on.

Machine generated form filled in with my info. A little box called “Sex” indicated I was female. So far, so good.

Right next to it was another little blank box which was titled “Gender”.

O good grief. I guess one can be a female now and then, as a detail, be Xi or Ta or whatever stupid 23 different names/descriptors they have come up with?

I have never seen that before. Hillary Clinton “Tyrant in a Housecoat.”

Hillary Clinton by all accounts is quite a horrible person. She makes the Grinch look kind even before his heart grew three sizes in that life altering moment.

Even the democrats don’t like her. Leon Panetta, Donna Brazile and Elizabeth Warren have fired the first salvos across Hillary’s bow in the up coming DNC civil war.

Heck, even Bill Clinton doesn’t like her.

So how then did Clinton become the DNC nominee for the 2016 election?

The same way Saddam Hussein won the presidency every election cycle with 100% of the vote. The exact same way, through tyranny.

Hillary Clinton has ruled through fear and intimidation for decades, Clinton has exchanged favors for power and money her entire adult life. She and her husband made nefarious strategical use of the FBI files they illegally scoured through during President Bill Clinton’s presidency.

When it comes to political power Hillary Clinton is an empty well. with that loss Hillary lost everything, no one needs to pretend to like her anymore.

With each new scalp Hillary tucked away in her quiver she made a new ally and a new enemy. She was only aware that her conquests would do her bidding and because she is narcissistic she never acknowledged that their loyalty to her was out of fear rather than admiration.

Hillary is blinded by her ravenous appetite for power and wealth, she is psychopathic in her quest to be “untouchable,” to live like an empress with unbridled power over others all who she views as her inferiors.

Hillary never had a dream of becoming the first woman president in US history, she has a quest to be the most powerful woman on earth. A Hillary Clinton presidency was as close as she could hope to get.

Hillary is the Michael Corleone of politics minus the youthful rose colored glasses, charm and the fidelity to family. She is everything bad about humanity all rolled up into one foul dank force of domination through intimidation.

There are dozens, probably hundreds of stories about the Clintons using their power to intimidate people in order to bring their enemies and friends to heel. It is the Clinton way.

Hillary is a tyrant in a housecoat.

Hillary for all her manipulations, deceptions and delusions of grandeur is plagued by nightmares and day terrors that she will be revealed for the low life criminal that she is rather than the noble woman worthy of a state funeral full of pomp and circumstance.

Hillary looked terrible before the election, she looks even worse now, she is a burdened and troubled soul. It does not trouble her that she let four men be slaughtered by the savages of Islam, for her own political expediency, on that she sleeps easy. Hillary is terrified that someone will pull the curtain back on her facade.

What Hillary forgot to figure into her long term plan of using, abusing, accusing people to her benefit is that every time one of her cronies did her bidding their bitterness toward her grew. Just how bitter are the people she has had under her thumb for so many years? We are about to find out.

We have front row seats to the coming democratic civil war Hillary Clinton against the DNC. Hillary’s power was political favor, she has lost all of her power. The power she holds by threatening to destroy people is gone, whatever she uses will come back to bite her in the derrière because to use the dirt she clings to is to reveal her own filthy hands.

I never thought that I would say this but I think that there is clear evidence that the Clinton Crime family is going to be brought to heel.

An empire built on tyranny never ends well. Hillary is about to find that out in a very real way.

Hillary fears revelation, especially self revelation. She is now surrounded by mirrors rather than minions and she is terrified.

    Good.

Chefs don’t measure. Bakers do, but not Chefs.

Take a small (4 oz?) can of brined green peppercorns and toss them in a saucepan or sautee. Some olive oil. (Some. Heh.) Some diced leeks or shallots, and brown it. Add a few handfuls of black pepper and white pepper, and a bit of salt. Add a good bit of beef stock, and reduce it at a simmer. Then add a couple of cups of beef bordelaise, and reduce again. I don’t know where cream comes into the process, but I’m pretty sure it does.

I can’t find a recipe online that approximates his. And I don’t know if he uses Cognac at all. Maybe white wine, while deglazing the peppercorns and shallots.

All I know is it’s the best sauce I’ve ever tasted. I can’t think of a food I wouldn’t dip in it. Tonight it was chicken strips. I would put that stuff on ice cream. I will lick the pan and the rubber spatula, after it’s done.

    😀

I assume he makes his own bordelaise sauce?

        That’s what I was thinking.

      • Yes. I picked his brains a little more today. He does add a roux at the end, as well. Again, no exact measurements were forthcoming, because really, there are none. Also he deglazes the peppercorns, white and black pepper, and shallots or leeks (usually leeks) with a bit of brandy first. Then the beef stock and reduction, then a bit of bordelaise, and further reduction, then the white sauce. After all, he uses a small immersion blender to grind it all to a puree, while it’s still hot.

I think I could make it, now. The only scary part for me is the roux. Gotta remember to turn off the flame. Roux will ruin a whole batch of whatever it is you’re making, real easy.

  25. Three movies I’ve been admonished to watch, by a friend tonight, all Westerns:

-The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

    -Jeremiah Johnson

    -Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

    Looking for them now.

    • Found a tiny-screen version of Jeremiah Johnson on YouTube. Watching it now. So far I’ve almost peed myself laughing three times, about 18 minutes in. I think it’s Robert Redford. 1972. Filmmaking used to be good. My friend at work knows how much I hate Hollywood, how much I avoid them, and why — because they mostly like schtuppin’ children. I pressed the “feed” button on the ticket printer, ripped off the blank ticket, and handed it to him, with a pen, and said, “Give me three movies that I gotta see.”

So I started with Jeremiah Johnson. So far, I’m entranced. This is good cinema.

Hollywood wasn’t always totally depraved. Most times it was only partially depraved, and still had a lot of goodness to offer. It was always somewhat depraved, though. The percentage just increased over time, to the 110% level it’s at, now. And I never really saw all the stuff everyone said was the Best. I never watched Gone With The Wind?, or The Sound of Music? How is this possible?

Seen Quentin Tarantino’s garbage more times than I can count.

So, now I’ll start watching the old stuff. Sorry, folks. Not trying to call you old. Star Wars came out when I was 6, in 1977. After that, and maybe even including that, all Hollywood decided to become garbage. I need to see the old stuff. Elvis movies. Old westerns.

That was a time when Hollywood loved America, and had at least a modicum of honor.

A smidgen of honor. Now they don’t even have a smidgen of honor. None at all.

The Brady Bunch was a giant Epstein Island orgy. All the cast. Even the youngest one in curls. And I grew up watching that show. Hollywood gets not one penny from me.

I hope NK has the coordinates for Laurel Canyon, CA, and uses them wisely.

That’s just how I feel sometimes.

The Sting, & Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid. Anything with Betty Davis, Spencer Tracy & Katherine Hepburn, Peter Loire, Gary Cooper, Henry Fonda, Jimmy Cagney, Cary Grant, Edward G Robinson, Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, Humphrey Bogart… Movies from the 30’s & 40’s were fabulous. Oh, and all the Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope comedies. Arsenic & Old Lace is my favorite after Yankee Doodle Dandy (perennial 4th of July must watch).

@15:23 or so. That scene, along with every scene I’ve watched so far, is astounding art.

So far, excellent movie. Even if it’s in a tiny frame. (Jeremiah Johnson, 1972, when I was 1.)

    Excellent writing, excellent cinema.

    • I had a buddy who lived in a nice camper, nice seasonal site. Big TV, Bose™ 301s (in a camper…) We used to play GTA:Vice City on the PS2, and then San Andreas and sometimes when it was thundering in the game, or there was a helicopter in the air in the game, we would have to actually pause the game to see if it was real.

That’s how bada&& his audio was. In a camper with Bose 301s, you’re basically sitting inside a giant pair of headphones. Nice ones.
