I like logic puzzles, and so does Menagerie. We haven’t done a puzzle for a while now, so thought it would be a good day for one. Solve the puzzle, but keep the results to yourself until 5:00 pm. Then we will share and reveal the correct answers.
Solution:
I’ve got an answer, but since I am not good at these, I have no idea if it is right. 🙄

Apparently from the post and the conversation I saw, this is used in post concussion patients, and following strokes. I assume it must be a diagnostic tool of sorts, but I am not sure how that works because there are people who just can’t do this sort of problem anyhow.

To be honest, I think I can do these, I just sometimes lose interest in them before I get them finished. You know, “Oh, look, there’s a birdie on the limb outside the window.” 🙄

Yes, I use these all the time with such patients, and many are much harder. We use them for staying on task (not looking out the window at the little birdie, or as Czar says, “Look, a bright shiny object!”), following written directions, recalling problem solving techniques, & reading comprehension for complex info. I personally love to do them! I remember them from Reader’s Digest when I was a kid. If you want more, google “deduction puzzles for adults” or”logic puzzles”.

I’m the same, Auscitizenmom, I’ve written down what I think are the answers, buy I may have gone down totally the wrong road! I’m even worse with numbers!

Easy, Peasy. Sat down with a donut and coffee to do this and I finished it before I finished the donut.
Some of our software engineering team take breaks from difficult work problems to do Mensa level puzzles far more difficult than this just for fun. Then we go back to working on the really hard problems we have to solve.
We use dry erase markers on the office windows to work out the problems collaboratively. 🙂

The ranch has been confiscated by Parks and Wildlife for unauthorized grazing on govt land, the animals were picked up by SPCA for safekeeping and ownership has lapsed to individuals due to them all being illegal non-citizens who have been taking welfare money and not feeding the animals properly although they are in good health and are living together in an animal commune where they romp in the flowers and eat wonderful food without any jalapeno peppers in it.
That was solved purely with Algebraic logic and an abacus.

To solve, plug in the givens:
Ranch under dog
Dave under horse
Carmen under cat
Then apply the clues in the order: 6, 3, 7, 2.

my solution was more like this.
Well, you put your two knees close up tight
And then you swing them to the left, you swing them to the right
Step around the floor kind of nice and light
And then you twist around and twist around with all your might.
Shake your loving arms way out in space
And then you do the Eagle Rock with the style and grace
Swing your foot way round then you bring it back

John, don’t spoil things. Believe it or not, most of us can figure this out on our own – and have.

I’m sorry. I thought it was after 5:00. Joshua’s post before mine shows it was posted at 5:58.
My intent was to help people like auscitizenmom and Jacqueline Taylor Robson.

If I need your help, I will ask, thank you very much, John! I believe I have the correct answers, but like I said, only if I went down the right road. The reason I hate math, is because I had a “teacher” in high school who , when I asked for help, told me I was stupid! This was in Algebra. I went on to take a college course In algebra, and made an A. It wasn’t me, but the “teacher”. Sorry, but I still have a confidence problem because of a “teacher” in 1971!
I wish someone would post the correct answer, because I am too shy to post my own for fear of looking like a “stupid” fool.

P.S. It only took me about 3 minutes to come up with my answer!

I failed algebra in 9th grade, and never understood it. When I was about 40 I was looking at some algebra problems & suddenly realized it was just a different way to add, subtract, multiply & divide. School put me in the math class for dummies after that, where I learned how to figure out how much paint or wallpaper I needed for a given space, how to draw house plans, how to determine materials to build a project or even a house. Guess which math was more useful…

Girl, I passed by the skin of my teeth! Only because the witchy teacher gave me extra credit for cleaning some desks! I made good grades in Geometry. Like you, it was because I could see a reason for it to be useful, as in something you need to figure out wallpaper and carpet. What the heck was “Y” and “Z” anyway?

I failed honors algebra in my freshman year of high school. Our class was mostly white, 1 Chinese girl, 2 black girls and 1 Mexican girl. This is how our teacher introduced himself “Hi I am Mr. Moore, that’s right I’m a black man teaching algebra, I know most of you white students don’t think you can learn anything from a black man…..balh blah blah”
After that whenever he talked all I heard was what the adults in a peanuts cartoon sound like.
I dropped the class after the first 2 semesters and took it in summer school.

I feel terrible. I did not mean to imply that any of you were dumb or stupid.
Please accept my most sincere apology.

Apology is readily accepted, my friend. How were you to know about something so weird about ‘lil ‘ol me? My shield slipped, and I just let it out, I only have love for everyone. I’m just so happy I got the puzzle correct!

LOL I had a hard time in Arithmetic because if I added the numbers three different times I got three different answers. If two matched, I went with it. However, when I got to Algebra I did really well once I figured out where the number that they would put in for x or y came from (they made it up). After that I made straight As and even was moved into Advanced Algebra when I went to college. Go figure. 🙄
