Went to Halloween contest night Saturday at the karaoke bar at which I’ve been a regular for about 5 years.
My personal challenge was to not be recognized, so I wore a full-head wolfman mask, flannel shirt, dockers, really old hiking boots, didn’t wear my usual jewelry or the cell phone on a belt holster, even wore different cologne. Plus, I walked bent kneed and slightly stooped forward to reduce my height, with a rolling gait, and elbows wide.

One guy recognized me. Former Navy, he used to train SEALs. He knew my body type and how I move.

One woman deduced it was me, since she knew I would be there and no one would know it was me. I was the only unknown character there, so it had to be me. Sharp girl. 🙂

All this as background for the fact that I really creeped out some of my female friends merely by invading their body space without touching them.
      “Who ARE you???”, they’d ask.
“WOLF!!”, I’d answer in a deep gruff voice.
“Go away! I don’t know you!”
But when I revealed myself, they’d be like, “Oh, it’s YOU!!” and give me a big, long hug of relief, like I’d just rescued them from some horrible monster.

BTW, I sang CCRs, “Bad Moon Rising”, in a gruff, choppy, broken English voice, and the wireless mike let me move among the crowd, and it came off as Wolfman as a crazed “the end is near” street preacher (seriously, read the lyrics), getting in people’s faces with dire predictions and wild gestulations. The crowd loved it, and the Karaoke Jockey later told me he had never laughed so hard.

as an adult, I am convinced that growing up is a great waste and we should all remember how to play with each other without being mean or bullies…..but not if you live in Hollywood….that is perpetual idiocy, not childhood.

There was a passage in The Chronicles of Narnia that bemoaned that the worst children were the most childish, and the worst adults were the most adult. Or something like that.

Seen on Facebook (my friend, Tom Gelsthorpe, who writes for the Cape Cod Times):

Why opposing “cultural appropriation” will never work.

This is one of my favorite statues, “Appeal to the Great Spirit,” that stands in front of the main entrance to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The sculptor grew up in Utah (one of the 28 states with Native American names) knew and liked many indigenous peoples. He created the sculpture in Paris, using an Italian model, cast the statue in the lost wax process recovered from classical Mediterranean civilizations, and had it brought to Boston by steamship.

The MFA entrance is Neo-classic, a marvelous imitation of Ancient Greek architecture that has been copied all over the world for 2500 years.

Should the statue be taken down because the model is inauthentic? Or because Native Americans didn’t use bronze? Because Native Americans “appropriated” feral horses that had escaped from Spanish explorers? Because steamships burned coal in the 1910s, or damage the marine environment?

Should Greek architecture be discontinued because Greeks were pagans, held slaves, started wars, or collapsed into regionalism and corruption?

Of course not. Culture IS appropriation. Culture blends the best of the best, whatever the source — to benefit everyone.

Exactly. So what that we appropriate anything. Man learns, grows, moves on, takes what he finds worthy or useful with him.

I get frustrated with the atheists and pagans who constantly bitch about Christianity using ancient traditions or holidays. First, in many cases they are wrong, and would prove it so if they researched any actual scholarly sources and not snopes, and second, a big fat so what to the times it did use something old. Your point is what?

Saint Patrick reportedly appropriated a shamrock to describe the Trinity. Perfect way to make something incomprehensible within our grasp. I wonder if the clover are bitter about it. They might have had druid ties.

Every holiday like today is approriated. Youre right everything is. You could throw it right back at the people saying that and tell them to start dressing in only their COO clothing, eating that food, etc. And they just get mad. They arent interested or maybe capable of the truth.

Very good short answer. But I dont think a lot of people who damage the statues even care they are just mob mayhem mentality. The very least this can reach some that are not totally lost

You miss the point, the Native Americans have, over centuries of European sociocultural oppression, lost the ability to see who and where they should be. It’s up to the descendants of those same European oppressors to put them back on their true path.

The Manafort Indictment: Not Much There, and a Boon for Trump

    Andrew C. McCarthy

Do not be fooled by the “Conspiracy against the United States” heading on Count One (page 23 of the indictment). This case has nothing to do with what Democrats and the media call “the attack on our democracy” (i.e., the Kremlin’s meddling in the 2016 election, supposedly in “collusion” with the Trump campaign). Essentially, Manafort and his associate, Richard W. Gates, are charged with (a) conspiring to conceal from the U.S. government about $75 million they made as unregistered foreign agents for Ukraine, years before the 2016 election (mainly, from 2006 through 2014), and (b) a money-laundering conspiracy.

Just finished reading the article before I came here. Agree with him whole heartedly. The conspiracy against the United States charge is bogus. It is a simple fraud and tax evasion case.

Judge Robinson will manage the preliminary phase but then it will be handed over to Obama appointee Judge Berman Jackson. Jackson earlier this year dismissed the lawsuit filed against Hillary by relatives of the Benghazi victims and has represented good old ‘Dollar Bill’ Jefferson in his Federal corruption trial. It gives me the creeps.

Morning all. Internet, TV, phone, power just recently came back. Lost it just after late Sun pm- early Mon am post. Really tired – apparently there was this loud train driving around the house all Sun pm keeping me awake all night! It also must have hit one of the oak trees remaining because an oak fell!!!

Ya – after spending a small fortune having 200 trees cut. I’m really glad we did tho. I was feeling bad about cutting trees, and spending the money, but we had about 8-10, 80 foot pines (with shallow roots) 30-50 feet from the house, along with all the 50-60 foot oaks. I know the closest pine would have fallen as it was already pushed a little crooked in the spring Nor’ Easter. DH was not happy about the money we spent on propane & generator installation, but then I reminded him of losing a refrigerator of food, cold nights, and no hot coffee or hotel rooms in 2 states! This is what happened to a bright yellow and green sunflower balloon we had outside – the colors came off! I don’t know if it was the wind, or because it was dragged along the ground.

(hmmmm imgur said it was saved in a small, edited size, but it shows large. I hope it’s small. Please forgive & delete if it is large Stella).

Great postings everyone! Nice pictures, videos etc. (sorry if I missed anything. I’m exhausted.)
Here is today’s painting. I really like this one. Not only do I think it is nice, but it fascinates me that it really only has about 4 colors – white, gray, brown, blue. If I just told you it had a grayish sky, gray rocks, a woman in a gray dress on a gray and white horse, you’d expect a big blob of gray!
Winslow Homer’s Woman on Horseback from the White Mountain School of Painting (one of my favorite styles 😉 ).

Off to clean up some of the mess outside. DH is disabling all the driveway solar lights to discourage the trick or treaters that trudge all the way up here (really only a couple of older ones bother). Have a safe and great day everyone 🙂

    • Thank you, Stella. Technical acoustic guitar is amazing. Very mathematical, precise, and, in some cases, soulful as it gets. This style (technical) is soulful because it IS math. It’s what prog rock was (Rush, REO Speedwagon, all of that) was about. Crazy mathematical detail.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

TV’s just breaking the story that New Orleans has reached its 500th shooting this year…on October 19th…no explanation as to why it took to today to mention it. Reporters were wringing their hands over the increased GUN VIOLENCE. No mention of the demographics perpetrating so much of the GUN VIOLENCE nor how much of this GUN VIOLENCE is related to the ethnic drug trade in the city. News used to report that but for some strange reason they no longer do.
Local crime ‘experts’ were on giving demographically sterilized explanations of why the GUN VIOLENCE is so high, the main reason tiptoeing around the easy access to guns…though most of the guns used are illegally obtained. But wait! The way to prevent these innocent victims from being seduced into the cult of GUN VIOLENCE is to reduce honest people’s access to weapons so that these susceptible to potential criminal activities won’t be enticed into stealing them. It’s those honest peoples’ ownership of physical goods in excess of their basic needs that fuel the deprived to be depraved, they are driven by the need to have those goods too. So, progressive citizen, turn in those guns so the deprived won’t feel the need to have them and, while you’re at it, that big screen TV, that jewelry, that car and any spare cash you may have lying about.
