And now, Hollywood writers are coming out. And many know how to write effectively. Pardon the NSWF language, but this is a NSFW problem.

I don’t doubt his sincerity, any more than I doubted Reagan’s, even though both did Hollywood fiction very well, for a living.
Someday I’ll write a book equating this Hollywood saga, arc, or whatever, to the restaurant industry. You’d be amazed at the parallels.

I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.”
Psalm 40:8 NIV
My mom talked with me and prayed for me this AM on the phone. She wants me to move to FL, and warns me, “There’s nobody down here, though, hardly.” After that article, and yesterday’s events at the restaurant, I don’t think that’s a minus. In this industry, I am surrounded by atheist sickos, weirdos, druggies, and even Satanists.
Then later I realized that everyone at the top of this industry are miniature Harvey Weinsteins, no matter where you live or work after events of last night. Which involved the owner being just like our last owner toward one of the ladies.
I don’t know whether I’ll continue there this evening. Sorry, Chef. The bossman is a miniature Harvey Weinstein, and I left my last place of employ because he was too — and it only took me 9 years to realize it. Two-week notice?
Why? I’m leaving the whole industry. I have other skills, and am righteous in comparison.
I haven’t slept for three days. Still not tired. After two busy shifts. I’ve tried, too.
I need to leave this place, and this industry. There are others.

You already trust in God. Believe in yourself and go out and make good things happen. But know this Wooly, there are parallels to Weinstein in all industries and professions. I have seen it time and again, in several career paths. I started to say that at your comment above, and figured it would be better to hold my tongue. But after reading this one, I think not.
That’s not meant to discourage you from making a move, either in locale or career, just a heads up so that hopefully you won’t experience a greater disappointment. I advise, as always, not only prayer, but offering up your works and struggles.
You know that you are constantly in my prayers. One thing I constantly stuggle with in my prayer life is quiet. It’s so hard to be still and listen to God. It’s not that I have to tell Him constantly my needs, or what I want, it’s just hard to keep my mind clear and from wandering. And without fail, those times I manage it are when answers come.
LikeLiked by 5 people
Wooly, my suggestion is not to make decisions when you haven’t slept. You have options (going to Florida and other skills) and perhaps, it might even be possible to find another restaurant where the owners/management share you values. You’re in my prayers.

I worked a lot of details at eateries from neighborhood to big name and it’s the industry everywhere. Most never see it as they’re there to eat, they don’t get to wade in the cuilture. Granted there are perfectly normal folks woring in the service industry but because of its cultural niche it does attract the outliers.
Got a chance to go to chef school? The ones who bob to the kitchen surface are the chefs, but (as you know) even they have their pecking order. Except for the chefs the rest of the staff generally fight for their places in the minimum wage pool…sink or swim.
I saw, to put it mildly, an interesting mix of people in the food service industry. I watched one chain, where undergrad college students made up the bulk of the staff, eat those students up. Many fell prey to the late night post-closing culture and dropped out of school and, when the chain closed, ended up wandering around in the crowded minimum wage service herd that is NOLA.
I suggest that if you want to stay in the food service field you look at a good chef’s school – dopn’t think you’ve got the whatever? Just look at some of the chefs who’ve graduated, that field’s a spectrum of the competent too.I understand leaving though, I have one son who clawed his way to the upper levels to where he was a top level manager, After twenty years of fighting the good fight he’d had enough and became a manager in the construction business and he’s happy.

I worked in Dental Labs for over 30 years. It’s he same with the owners, they make millions, and think everyone else should get minimum wage, esp women. The only women that get anywhere, are either relatives, or unscrupulous gold diggers! I could tell quite a few tales, but now that I’ve been forced to retire(disabled) I’m just grateful to be away from it all. I was a Porcelain Technician, that loved my work! However, I was ignored, passed over, and treated pretty rotten. Just because I would not play “the game”.
A few members of my family have been in the food industry for years. I know exactly how you feel! This sick “Weinstein” crap goes on everywhere.

you are a strong person, Wooly…you show it constantly to us….make sure you do not run away from anything, but go clearly to your next activity with conviction and confidence, and due diligence. But do not delay the next right thing for you, as you determine it. Ignore everyone’s helpful advice and instructions….just think it out for yourself…you will be fine.
I have had to teach my grown boys that almost all businesses and establishments are filled with weak and vindictive, emotionally retarded, and narcissitic behaviors….but not everyone is that way….but the “empty barrels” are the most vocal, active, and vicious.
Go to your future in peace and strength…you have friends and caring folks on this blog, I know it.

I think most everything has been said above, Wooly, and I agree and echo it. And I will pray for revelation for you.
You have gifts and skills (yes, both) and God has a plan for everything that IS you and IN you. You may have no clue right now what will happen next–and that can be exciting!
Pray unceasingly.

Wooly, i will pray that you are given wisdom to make a good decision. Wanting to be near family was one of the forces that caused me to want to move back to Michigan (Also: fewer tornadoes.) Please keep us posted on what you decide
But I’m afraid that you think that leaving the food industry will get you away from the Weinstein stuff. It might. But even though I don’t have a great deal of experience, I feel like if it isn’t that, it’s gonna be something else. Some other vice or sin that infects a place.
I don’t know what else to say about it, other then it’s a fallen world. That doesn’t make it right, but it is the way it is. There are places that are better then others, but there’s no place that’s perfect in this life.

I am sorry Stella, and hope that he is in the house and you are both snoozing now. I am wondering if there was something unsettling for dogs going on last night. My two were up barking and prowling the woods all night long. It was a bad night for them too. Usually they do that during full moon.

problem, the two terrierists are close enough in age to play outside and burn off energy. Diffren’ neighbors too, tain’t unusual to have one call looking for a stray dog…horse…cow…whatever that may have wandered into your yard.

Tug is usually a favorite game. This is something else. He won’t let me near him, and he won’t come in – not even for water. I gave him water this morning, because I don’t want him to get sick.
I am really concerned about him. I will have to try to catch him, and not let him out on his own until I have him checked out by the vet.

Stella, do you have anything in your house that would emit carbon monoxide? I just thought maybe something like that could make him not want to come in the house. He might sense it.
I had a rottweiler years ago who liked to sleep in the front bathroom, curled up next to the toilet and the tub. I guess because it was cool. One night I heard his feet scratching the floor as he came tearing out of the bathroom and hit the wall in the hallway. He never would go in that bathroom again. Eventually I discovered that there was a hole where mice could get in. I believe one probably ran across him and scared him.

I have two carbon monoxide detectors in the house. Anyway, the furnace isn’t on, and the windows were open, so I don’t think that’s it.
It isn’t just that he won’t come in. He won’t let me near him. Breaks my heart.

I found this that I thought was interesting about something that might bother him. “I have an induction cooker that emits a very high pitch sound. I didnt hear anything but those younger kids and especially dogs can hear much higher frequency. And high frequency noise is super irritating. Try turning off all your electrical appliances including fridge, lights, fan, etc and see if he is fine with that..”

Sure he isn’t just palying keep away? That behavior’s also an inate lure trying to make you come out and play chase. He’s a hunting dog too, wants to bond and chase with you, his pack. You gotta ‘Rent-a-Squirrel’ in the area?

We have plenty of squirrels, but he isn’t that interested in them yet. Stella loved to chase them! And I think that this is more than playing keep away. He was very unhappy, and so was I.

He’s still a puppy and full of stuff and vinegar. We’re going thru Lucky chewing on anything he can get his teeth on and he’s long past teething. Meanwhile Chez goies out, doesn’t want to come in and wants us to come out and play. Old alpha dog just makes a ‘pffft’ sound, rolls over and goes back to sleep. They’re dogs.
About 25 mg of benadryl in a nice piece of cheese?

I dosed him with Trazodone earlier, so I don’t want to give him anything else. I think it calmed him a bit.

Just me but I like benedryl…also helps with the allergies. It can be tough with a hunting dog in the city, Tucker’s at the age now where were he with his pack he’d be out building muscle, burning calories and learning to hunt. Nature gave dogs varying amounts of energy at specific times, we put ’em in artificial environments.
I just feel blessed to live where I do so that I can burn off their extra energy without having to sacrifice what lessening amounts I have. Be patient, this too shall pass and you’ll have a couch potato.
LikeLiked by 2 people
That’s all true, czar. I know that he will mellow out over time (based on experience with Stella)! I think it would also be easier if I had more than one dog, but …
I have to be more patient too, and more consistent.
LikeLiked by 1 person
If you gert more than one dog you start with that mixed pack thing. I have to play alpha with Daisy the Border Collie and Lucky the Speed Freak, they get into iot – rsther she takes asffront easily – and the problems go up and down the line.
Have you socialized him with other dogs and do you have a dog park where he casn run and burn off energy with other dogs? I thionk we naturally forget what having a furry juvenile delinquent around is like – probably a defensive thing.

UPDATE. Tucker is back in the house and asleep on the sofa.
I went out to work in the yard, and he started to follow me, getting closer and closer. We found his ball, and played fetch a couple of times. I sat down to rest, and he came next to me and allowed me to pet him. I collared him and brought him in the house. He ate, played a little bit, and fell asleep.
I’ll keep him on a lead for the time being, reinforce the “come” command, and perhaps take him to the vet. I am considering having him neutered earlier than I originally intended. He’s past 8 months old now.
I think I will join Tucker for a nap.
Thanks to everyone for suggestions!

I agree on early neutering on male dogs…keeps them from having to always claim everything and to not get into hormonal behavior as well….

OK, there’s my October one.
LikeLiked by 1 person
There are positives to waiting also – avoiding joint damage and hormonal adnormalities caused by removing the sex glands too early. I wanted to wait until 12 months instead of 6, and now will probably neuter at 9 months.

Stella….it is exhausting training a new male doggie….and Tucker is the age to begin to train you to worry about him by demonstrating stubborn and difficult behavior. My solution has always been to not give them much attention for false behavior, and lots of love and touching contact when they do what you want….he is probably not responding out of stubborn male pack leader desires……
He will come for food if he is hungry….good luck and get rest for yourself….he is a sweet guy and you will get many years of love and pleasure from him in the future.

Thanks nyet, need a good breakfast. The gals in our family are off to Ketner’s Mill, a local craft fair. Dancing, gospel singing, good food, crisp fall air, at least for the morning, it’s gonna get hot. I will buy a five pound bag of their excellent corn meal, maybe some grits, and I have to bring home molasses for my husband.
My granddaughter will ask a million questions when she sees the mules or horses turning the press as they put the cane in. Then we will take her to the petting zoo. She will want a couple of bunnies, maybe a goat or a calf. Undoubtedly a pony too.
Then it will be lunch time, topped off with lemonade. I always wonder why I don’t open a stand, I’d put them all out of business with Grandma’s recipe. Indeed, my little granddaughter raked in the the cash this summer with her first business adventure, a stand in her front yard.
What an excellent day it will be. Happy Saturday y’all.

Sorghum or sugar cane? Our neighborson the hill behind us have mules and the folks up the street have miniature donkeys so we get an interesting mix of braying.
Taking GGS to get a haircut, lunch then movies. It’s great to have grandkids, a second chance at being a parent without much of the angst and more time to spend with the tykes.

It’s really sorghum rather than molasses, which we call it. Here’s a link to the Mennonites who make it. Really cool info in the video on the About Us page. I’ve been buying my husband a jug of this every year from these people going way back. He loves it on biscuits, in oatmeal, and I use it in baked beans and brown bread.

My maternal grandfather grew sorghum, cotton & had dairy cows in Depression Oklahoma. Had a team of mules, Sal & Sam, to manage the land & harvest (also a passel of kids). Mama recalled how the man with the press travelled farm to farm pressing the sorghum canes & taking his payment in juice.

And what’s with those cowboy hats, WeeWeed? It’s certainly not appropriate to wear hats in the House chamber. I’d wager they are afraid to say anything to her. But she got what she’s always wanted…who ever heard of her before she put herself in this story? Amazing! And they accuse our President of acting inappropriately!

What is the Meaning of “empty barrel”?
An empty barrel makes the most noise

You know the type. He or she is the loudest at parties, always showing off at work, boasting about their accomplishments to anyone who will listen, or acting as the know it all. There is no specific age, occupation, or education level that categorizes this type of person.
People who act in this fashion are big turnoffs to many. Given the option, you probably seek to escape them whenever possible. Why do people behave in this manner? There are many reasons as well as theories. The cause is unimportant. What does matter is not getting caught by their conduct.
How do you prevent behaving like an empty barrel yourself? Believe in yourself. You don’t have to prove anything else to others. There’s no need to convince anyone of the legitimacy of your dreams. You follow your path because it leads to your destination, not to make an impression.
We all strive to be good at what we do. However, bragging about your competence is never appreciated. Those who do boast are viewed as attempting to make up for some deficiency. It’s OK to be proud of your accomplishments. Real achievements speak for themselves. Keep in mind that your objective is to achieve your dreams, not to impress others.
Rather than talking about yourself, show an interest in what someone else has done. Not only is a good listener appreciated, you will learn a great deal. Everyone has something to teach you, but you have to keep your ears open to discover it.
You encounter empty barrels in all settings; at work, socially, with family, and even with strangers in public. How can you avoid being impacted by them? Each situation requires a different strategy.
At work, the offending person can be a boss, a coworker, or a subordinate. In dealing with your boss you have to endure some contact. Keep your exposure as brief as possible by focusing your communication on specific work issues. Whenever possible, you can excuse yourself by saying you have to get back to work.
When interfacing with coworkers, also stick to business. If you initiate social conversation, you open the door for annoying behavior. Always be polite. Don’t insult, put down, or embarrass anyone. Excusing yourself to get back to work is effective with coworkers as well.
In managing subordinates, lead by example. You set the tone as to the type of behavior you consider appropriate. If someone is out of line, always speak to him or her in private. Never criticize in public.
Family can be more of a challenge. Depending on the relationship, you may not be able to avoid or minimize interaction. What you can do is try to change the subject as often as necessary. You won’t be able to change the offending person, so don’t waste energy trying.
You have discretion regarding who you interact with socially. Those individuals you find annoying can be avoided. Excusing yourself and walking away is always an option. When confronted by an empty barrel, you aren’t obligated to respond. Just because someone asks you a question or makes an annoying statement doesn’t mean you have to answer.
When facing an empty barrel, you won’t convince them of anything. You won’t change their behavior. You don’t have to defend yourself. The maxim, “Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference,” has a lot of validity. Stand aside and let the empty barrels roll by.

Thought I would let you know how my doggie is doing. Her eye seems to be healing very well. We were worried about how much sight she will have in it, but she winces when I wave something in front of that eye, so she does have sight in it.
I finally took the cone off yesterday and gave her a full bath, which didn’t make her happy. I had been spot washing her before. She has been a real trooper through all this. She always would come to me, even when she knew I was going to put drops in her eye. At least we were finally down to two different drops four times a day.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
