The photos you put up are always so beautiful – eye candy for me. Reminds of summer afternoons (or winter evenings) in the 1950s curled up with the latest National Geographic (back when it was published by global warmists, etc) and believe the photos, know that those places were out there, drink in as much as possible, and then read the articles, too –

I love good photography – what a blessing the internetz iz in that re gard: oh goodness, pick a place anywhere in the world (or something anywhere in the library) and go there for awhile. Music. Photography. Reading.

I imagine many of you, like me, have thought about how our parents and aunts and uncles would have made use of the opportunities. The internetz – not all bad – by a long shot.

Happy Saturday! Here is a commentary from Bishop Barron, a good one for the times we face.

27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR I

    LUKE 11:27-28

Friends, our Gospel blesses those who hear the word of God and observe it. In this regard, I would like to speak about the response of the Polish people to the word proclaimed by St. John Paul II. The power of the Polish Communist state, and behind that the power of the Soviet Union, is what John Paul faced at the beginning of the 1980s. But he was practiced in the art of facing down oppressive political forces, having grown up under Nazism and Communism.

He spoke of God, of human rights, of the dignity of the individual—frightening at every turn, his handlers worried about diplomatic repercussions. As he spoke, the crowds got bigger and more enthusiastic. This went beyond mere Polish nationalism. At one gathering, the millions of people began to chant “We want God! We want God!” over and over for fifteen minutes.

There was no controlling this power, born of the confidence that God’s love is more powerful than any of the weapons of the empires of the world, from crosses to nuclear bombs. This is, of course, why Communist officialdom tried vehemently to stop John Paul II. But there is no chaining the Word of God!

It’s going to be a great weekend y’all.

    • Thanks, Menagerie, for another great Barron quote. So true.

What Poland’s citizenry did the other day is even bigger than that story.

They made a human wall around their nation — THEIR — nation, linked arms, and prayed the Rosary.

Remember the ridiculous preponderance of pollock jokes for decades? Those dumb Polish people and how stupid they are? Whoever told them, the joke’s on you.

I have great, wonderful respect for any nation whose citizens say “We’re going to remain Poland, we’re going to remain Polish, and you’re not going to replace our culture with your own. Especially not with our dollars as incentive for outbreeding.”

If national trends continue, in 50 years, if you can travel to Poland, or Japan, or Russia — you will experience, while there, Polish, Japanese, and Russian culture.

If you travel to America, England, France, or Norway, you will experience Syrian, Nigerian, Pakistani, Iraqi, and Mexican culture. You’ll have to squint real hard to find the cultures you went there to experience. To think that France used to be romanticized in art and fiction, from everywhere else in the world, for being uniquely French! Not any more.

Those cultures will all have been stepped on like the rooster steps on and stands on the weaker chickens in the coop. Ever seen that happen? I have. Poland says “FU” to the rooster, and pecks his eyes out. This is our culture, not yours. We love God, we love Poles, we love our Nation, and we wish to remain OUR nation, and we WILL.

My niece moved to Poland, married and has a family. Her mother and father support her decision, but of course they suffer a great deal being separated. After returning from Poland after her wedding, her mother told me that she had been able to find some peace at her daughter’s decision after visiting Poland and experiencing the very Catholic culture that permeates he society there. Finally, her daughter had truly found her place.

Well, once again Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, was and is right:

This is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. (John 3:19-20)

Any of them can “come to the light” at any time….but, as we used to say, boy oh boy, the exposure is not easy. Those who have been accustomed to running in the dark do avoid the light for solid reasons.

The deception that all sides of this were (some still are) caught in is multi-layered. It’s really icky watching those who were abused thank and praise the abuser. Really, really icky.

I remember a priest talking about God and the farther one is from God the cleaner the individual considers himself because he is in total darkness and cannot see his flaws, the closer we get to God, the more we see our flaws as God’s light illuminates them. I’ve always liked that little reminder that we are who we are within God regardless of who we might think we are.

From the FOIA files…..Weinstein to Hillary via one of her assistants (bolded type is mine):

      “From: Office, HW
      To: Marshall, Capricia
      Sent: Fri Aug 20 12:50:18 2010
      Subject: From Harvey Weinstein

      Dear Capricia,
As time moves on, I realize I haven’t seen you and Mrs. Clinton (Hillary) in a long time, but I think of you both often. I don’t know if movie producers are still worthy in your world, but next time you’re in NYC I’d love to see you. I have such fond memories of you guys watching SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE. I made another movie you might like about the ascendancy of King George after Edward abdicated, it’s called KINGS SPEECH. The movie brings to light something that many people don’t know, which is that King George was a stutterer and he hired an actor to try and help him overcome it. It’s a fun movie that is much in the tradition of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, again I think you would both like it (and Hillary would approve because it’s PG-13 with not too many swear words).

If you have any trips coming up I’d love to send it to you so you guys can watch and give me your opinion. I could also include a copy of THE TILLMAN STORY, that one is obviously not a happy film, but it’s an incredibly important one.
      PS (completely redacted ~2 lines)
      Your bad friend,
      Harvey ”

With luck and perseverance the crumb trail will lead to Washington and many more ‘morality rangers’ will come tumbling down. I love the sound of crumbling ivory towers in the morning.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

I also see the hoary Hamas trying to remain relevant and stay alive. Not only would Sunni Hamas get swallowed by ISIS in one bite but IRGC controlled Hezzbollah (Shiite for brains) has no love for them either.
Hamas surely can’t ask Israel for help in surviving so why not cozy up to the US? Hamas gives the US tidbits and the US in turn keeps the bullies from making it exctinct. Hamas is not only poking Israel with a sharp stick but there are rumors that, over the decades, Hamas leaders have accumulated quite sweet personal fortunes and don’t want the free lunch to end. Hamas signed on to an agreement with the US, Russia, the UN and the EU that for financial assistance it would stop violent actions aginst Israel. Didn’t take long for Hamas to screw that pooch and the money was cut off. Now with two more powerful foes taking up the ‘Death to Israel’ banner why not again cozy up to the US, regain their credit line and have the US and EU go back to killingb their foes?
Only Mideast fundamentalist you can trust is ones that’s dead…and then only after it’s been killed three or four times.

Bottom line is if we’re going bto rank-order threats Hamas is degrees below ISIS and Hezz and the Israelis can deal with Hamas as they’ve been doing for decades.

NOLA primary election today, voting for a new mayor, all of the city council seats and some judges. So far the poll watchers are reporting the predictions of a miserable turnout are coming true, folks don’t wanna seem to have the desire to come out and decide who’ll give them their next handouts. Many are just happy to let others pick the slate they’ll vote for in the runoff, saves them the trouble of thinking.
Candidates are saving the fried chicken and cash handouts until the runoff, no sense wasting that bribe money until you need to. You’d think that the poor and uneducated residents of a city wallowing in poverty above the national mean, an embarrassing level of functional illiteracy and a host of other social and economic ills might show more interest in easing their plight, then again we not only allow but encourage the incompetent and clueless to vote so it’s probably no wonder we at where we at.
