Once upon a time, America held her celebrities as heroes, and celebrities, especially athletes, modeled American values, granted, not always authentically.

Franchise owners and Hollywood moguls knew who buttered their bread, and many were truly patriots.

Now they are just the entitled elite who scorn their audience, yet demand their money. I spit in their general direction.

Our culture’s changed to where those who follow the rules, work hard to obtain an education and do something that betters humanity are no longer held in regard, if not ridiculed.
I’ve always felt that the progressives’ attempts to uplift the poor, oppressed and disenfranchised, bringing them into the greater fold were largely a failure. Combined with the internationalist porogs’ complaints about, basically, the US is too smart and too successful and must be dialed back, we come to present day America.
Note that upper scale parents avoid public school like the plague, they send their kids to private schools that specialize in pure academics while more and more public schools are pushing a heavily blue collar or no collar curriculum.
In the more affluent NOLA bedroom communities we have private and parochial schools and some higher level public schools that parent fight to get their kids into while in NOLA the curriciulum is…to be kind…softer. NOLA has an increased emphasis in some, and a special school for, ‘arts’. First thing that comes to my mind is a more educated class of young street performers on Quarter street corners.
Can’t say we don’t support our performing class though, we have a group that builds them free housing as most don’t make enough money for rent/mortgage. We have a group of physicians who provide them free medical care and others who provide free other services…all because their trades don’t pay. Maybe we can pass a special tax on productive people to care for the hangers-on….oh yeah, we did.

We sent our kids to parochial school, and damned near beggared ourselves to do it, spending all our money on education for so many years that we will never have the kind of retirement we might have otherwise had. The boys helped out some with tuition once they got jobs as teenagers, but a lot of their money soon went to gas and insurance.

For a while there, when they were young men, I thought we had wasted all that money of education, they were still stupid. Time has proven me wrong, thank God.

New Orleans’ claim to educational excellence after those millions and millions of taxpayer $$$$ thrown at its school system is: we don’t have quite a bad a standardized failure rate and dropout rate as we had pre-K, and we haven’t had any school board members indicted lately.

They were not attempting to do that. They were attempting to convince us and all the poor, oppressed and disenfranchised that they were attempting to do that. It was largely a success. MPAI. Most people are idiots, and believed them.

Got up to news that NOPD officer was shot and killed last night. Officer was fairly new to the force and rather young (30ish). Four officers got out of their cars in New Orleans East to check out a suspicious person only to have that person open fire, hitting the deceased officer multiple times. Suspect was wounded and fled to an apartment and later surrendered. Wounded suspect is being treated at the same hospital the deceased officer was treated at.
We’ve been losing about two officers a year for the last few years, more than we lost before the new enlightened administration redesigned the PD.

Shooter was just identified. Darren Bridges, 30 year old black male with extensive criminal record (TV talking head info). First adult felony arrest was 2004 for cocaine possession. Last felony arrest was in 2015 for ‘felon in possesion of a firearm’. He was sentenced to 6-1/2 years in prison but served only 3 years before state paroled him. He was out on probation when he shot and killed the NOPD officer. Despite an’extensive’ criminal record including arrests for violent crimes he has only served 3 years total in prison. No indepth info yet on the totality of his adult sheet but that should be coming and quite possibly his juvie record will be unsealed too.

Typo…last conviction 2012, paroled in 2015. News later tonite will break down his entire adult sheet. One reliable source is saying that DA’s office hasn’t said if they’ll seek death penalty…I’m betting that the uproar if they don’t will comvince the office to do so otherwise some pols there might be forced to get a new job.

I bet he’s smiling smugly in his mug-shot. Because of course he is. These people aren’t afraid to go to prison, THEY WANT TO.

A few weeks ago I had the day off, and I gave my friend and his daughters a small tour of town, and we ended up back at the restaurant, and got involved in further shenanigans involving water balloons, a target, and climbing up on the roof of the building with them, and firing a “volley”, as it were at said target. One of the girls asked me, and it was late, like 10:00 at night, “Why are you here, at work, if you’re not even on the clock?”

I told her, “Because this is where all my friends are.” She nodded.

These thugs want to be in prison. That’s where all their friends are.

Pharmacy Says They Deliver ALZHEIMER’S Medications To Members Of Congress

    http://www.dailywire.com/news/22170/pharmacy-says-they-deliver-alzheimers-medications-ryan-saavedra

A Washington D.C. pharmacy revealed on Wednesday that they deliver medications that treat “serious health problems” to members of Congress, including medications to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

Pharmacy owner, Dr. Mike Kim, said that he has “gotten used to” knowing highly sensitive information about some of the most powerful people in Washington, STAT reported.

“At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country,” Kim said, listing treatments for conditions like diabetes and Alzheimer’s…

Am I the only one who noticed it is Friday the 13th? Or does nobody actually believe in superstitions like they did when I was a kid? My mother explained the various ones (spill salt, break a mirror, black cat stuff, etc.) but did not believe in them, because her mother refused to be afraid of anything. Gramma was born on a small farm in east Texas (near Paris) in 1898 and came out very practical & sensible, with no tolerance for such foolishness.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

“Patience” is one of the things I like best about that prayer.

When I pray the first thing I do is Thank God. For so much.

Before I dare ask Him for anything.

He’s not a vending machine. I know that. I don’t pray for me as much as I do for everyone around me. What do I need? Not much. A good woman, sure. Prov. 31 is not lost on me.

Me and God have an agreement. When I’m thinking about someone that is here or in real life, and talking all the stuff out loud because I live alone and can do that, that I wish I was speaking to that person, that I am actually praying for them, and for their well-being. God honors that agreement. It is an odd arrangement, I know, but he worketh.

This was Bishop Barron’s gospel reflection of Wednesday. The last paragraph has been on my mind since then.

      LUKE 11:1-14

Friends, our Gospel for today gives us an opportunity to reflect on the great prayer that Jesus taught us. Think how this prayer links us to all of the great figures in Christian history, from Peter and Paul to Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Francis of Assisi, John Henry Newman, G.K. Chesterton, John Paul II, right up to the present day.

A desire to pray is planted deep within us. This just means the desire to speak to God and to listen to him. Keep in mind that prayer is not designed to change God’s mind or to tell God something he doesn’t know. God isn’t like a big city boss or a reluctant pasha whom we have to persuade. He is rather the one who wants nothing other than to give us good things—though they might not always be what we want.

Can you see how this prayer rightly orders us? We must put God’s holy name first; we must strive to do his will in all things and at all times; we must be strengthened by spiritual food or we will fall; we must be agents of forgiveness; we must be able to withstand the dark powers.
