        CHOCOLATE GUINNESS CAKE RECIPE
        One bite and everyone will propose a toast to this silky-smooth chocolate cake. The cream cheese frosting reminds us of the foamy head on a perfectly poured pint.

        INGREDIENTS
        • 1 cup Guinness (dark beer)
        • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
        • 2 cups sugar
        • 3/4 cup baking cocoa
        • 2 eggs, beaten
        • 2/3 cup sour cream
        • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
        • 2 cups all-purpose flour
        • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
        • TOPPING:
        • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
        • 1-1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
        • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

        DIRECTIONS
        Grease a 9-in. springform pan and line the bottom with parchment paper; set aside.

        In a small saucepan, heat beer and butter until butter is melted. Remove from the heat; whisk in sugar and cocoa until blended. Combine the eggs, sour cream and vanilla; whisk into beer mixture. Combine flour and baking soda; whisk into beer mixture until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan.

        Bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack. Remove sides of pan.

        In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add confectioners’ sugar and cream; beat until smooth (do not over-beat). Remove cake from the pan and place on a platter or cake stand. Ice top of cake so that it resembles a frothy pint of beer. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 12 servings.

        Supposedly, the name Beer is not derived from the drink, but from the Old English word bearu, meaning “grove” and referring to the original forestation that surrounded the village.

    The notice describes the contract as a “sole source order,” meaning Equifax is the only company deemed capable of providing the service. It says the order was issued to prevent a lapse in identity checks while officials resolve a dispute over a separate contract.

    Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle blasted the IRS decision.

    “In the wake of one of the most massive data breaches in a decade, it’s irresponsible for the IRS to turn over millions in taxpayer dollars to a company that has yet to offer a succinct answer on how at least 145 million Americans had personally identifiable information exposed,” Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) told POLITICO in a statement.

    The committee’s ranking member, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), piled on: “The Finance Committee will be looking into why Equifax was the only company to apply for and be rewarded with this. I will continue to take every measure possible to prevent taxpayer data from being compromised as this arrangement moves forward.”

      Let’s not forget the 2.5 million extra identities compromised Equifax missed but a contractor found. Or how another source found that the site Equifax set up to let people check if their identities was unsecure and easily hacked. Or that if you sign up for their credit blocking service to protect your butt that you may also be agreeing to be excluded from any civil suits for damages that may be filed. Or how the free credit monitoring you get for one year from Equifax may end up being charged to you if you want to use it after that year’s up.
      Story I read from a Fed source said that the contract was awarded as the IRS certified that only Equifax was capable of providing the service, so no competition was required. No word from Experion or Transunion on what they have to say about that.

        Equifax withdrew the requirement about civil suits when signing up for credit monitoring.

        I would be interested to hear from Trans Union and Experian too. My own experience is that Equifax is unprofessional and difficult to deal with.

          I do believe they withdrew that recently, after it was discovered. Still haven’t said if they’ll charge or not charge for a second or subsequent years on their ‘protection’ against losses from their own screwup.

    Pull or push: Do you pull truth in by reading, or do you get it pushed to you? I know that all of you exemplify the former, by long experience.

    I once likened a good friend of mine, to his face, that he was like a child in a high-chair getting spoon-fed. Oh, how mad he got. Epic tantrum. Surprised he didn’t attack me physically.

    He thinks the internet is brainwashing. He’s been brainwashed to think that.

    TV and NPR are the truth.

    Folks, I don’t know what to think about all this, really.

    The guy who plays Borat proved that one person can influence the way people think about what is real. When you see the vids about this massacre, you also see gigantic banners advertising magician/performer Criss Angel’s magic show, called “Believe” (At that giant pyramid building). Criss also proved, and does so for a living, that one guy (with a dedicated team) can fool pretty much anyone.

    I’m very conflicted about Sandy Hook. I’m a bad, bad person for thinking that the thing was all crisis actors, and that nobody died in that elementary school, except for maybe Lanza.

    Now I’m conflicted again about this.

      Wooly, don’t feed the people who make these videos. I have also seen pics that say he looks like the guy who shot Steve Scalise.

      Conspiracy theorists are usually doing these videos for the purpose of making money. Another is to gain notoriety. They don’t have all the facts. They don’t know any more than the rest of us, usually. And they make things up.

      Let’s wait and see. The Sheriff is very competent and I have been told that his department is known for their professionalism. Much of the info I am getting comes from people who live there/lived there, who have stayed in the Mandalay Bay and the Luxor, who are very familiar with the area.

        I am reading that “face recognition” computer software is unable to positively 100 % identify children as their faces are not even close to a constant.

        and I do not intend to ride in a driverless auto in my lifetime…heck, dangerous enough with a commercial pilot, a union busdriver, or an union train engineer…..

        but, not to drone on and one……

    The police batons coming down on the heads of unarmed women waiting in line to vote is “democracy”; the women voting are not, according to the EU. Classic liberal doublespeak…

    Went with my friend to see Kingsman: The Golden Circle. It is Kingsman 2. My friend had seen Kingsman 1 and liked it. I read a critique on 2 and decided I probably could manage to sit through it and she wanted to see it so badly. Badly is the operative word.

    We sat through the interminably long previews and then the too-loud movie started. After a super long (in my opinion), violent, car chase scene it eventually went into a scene where a man was fed into a grinder. I wasn’t watching by then. I had covered my eyes. Thank goodness, that was too much for her and she stood up and was ready to leave. 😯 We got refund tickets for another movie.
