Thanks for the well wishes; Lucille! I didn’t want to get up this morning; but your sweet message makes it much easier! Good morning to you!

Being under the weather I didn’t know anything about Las Vegas until I turned on the computer ten minutes ago. In light of this horror, the greeting seems out of place…but maybe not. So many places in the world are under siege. It’s up to us to maintain an attitude of hope and deliverance and a determination that justice will always be done.
Our thoughts go to those whose lives were lost, to their families who will never see them again. Our prayers go to those injured–that they may all survive and miraculously be able to move forward with their lives, looking toward the time when the atrocity isn’t present every day in their minds. May their hearts be open to the comfort our Lord provides.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1

No – the greeting is not out of place.
Somehow we need a place of refuge, a quiet inner place, no matter what is going on around us.
I saw some lovely things this morning. Had to go pick up some primer and paint to refresh my wrought iron entrance/front porch stuff.
We just have cold/rainy fronts moving out and warmer (high 60s) October-type fronts moving in so there are piles of cumulus clouds all around me – my favorite common cloud.
I saw beautiful chrysanthemums in the yards of so many homes, and, as always, counted at least 15 American flags flying between my house and the main highway (about 1/2 mile).
I saw workmen bustling around some homes where some nifty upgrades are being down. Saw a few “For Sale” signs and just as many “Sold” signs. Nothing stays on the market more than two weeks here, according to the last info from local realtor.
Saw a retain clerk at Walmart laughing at herself because smaller boxes were falling out of her big box as she was headed for a destination several aisles down. I just smiled and saide to her, “Ah! That’s you throwing things!” She laughed and said, “….just trying to empty my box faster!” – with good humor.
It’s ok to have a quiet spot with some blessing today. Strength to be gained there.

I was at the end of the SH South Pier at 7:30 this morning, alone, listening to Rachmaninoff and watching Lake Michigan, and praying, my feet hanging off the end of the pier beyond the lighthouse. It’s all we can do sometimes.
Strength gained, indeed. Thank you, Lucy. Thank you, Sharon.
I told about 10 or so people today, most of whom I know, as I sat on my parking-lot fire escape stairs smoking a cigarette, “Be thankful that you live here. We are blessed. No hurricanes, no earthquakes, and no mass shootings.” They all agreed. We all work our butts off, and we struggle in the winter, but we don’t have any of that. It’s as if there is a bubble of protection around this place.

I felt like the greeting was a sweet and warm welcome, Lucille. It was much appreciated, too. I know CTH is “The Last Refuge” technically, but Stella’s is like family and a sanctuary of sorts. I thought your post was perfect.
Also, I hope you feel better very soon.

Stella, this was posted over at CTH’s Open Thread. Do you know who the person is or where he’s located?
The Popcorn Tape says:
October 2, 2017 at 12:40 am
So we’re cleaning up my grandmother’s place that was flooded out by Harvey, right?
We’ve had to throw away A LOT of stuff. I mean A LOT. We went through almost a whole box of Husky Contractor Clean-Up 42-gallon bags just today, to say nothing of the furniture that fell apart when we tried to lift it.
Anyway, I just got word today that FEMA is no longer doing trash pickup here.
Fitting. They turned us down for any help whatsoever, and now we have several trucks’ worth of flooded-out garbage and torn-up carpet and wood tile that we now have no way of getting rid of.
So now I have no idea what to do for my family…complaining here seemed like at least something, since I’m tired as hell from all that heavy lifting, and the headache all this mold is giving me.
LikeLiked by 2 people
I don’t know this person. Why don’t you ask him/her?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Don’t expect the trash haulers to just come by and make the garbage go ‘poof’, there’s a lot of it as the article shows. There’s a whole range of garbage including a lot of hazardous stuff like chemicals and paints that can’t be just heaved into some pit. There’s also those appliances that can be recycled and, like fridges and freezers, must have their toxic contents removed and refrigerants removed.
The trucks that haul it must take it to centralized pickup points where it can be consolidated and held for transport to its final resting places. There’ll be a huge backup of trucks as these piles are huge and there has to be some oversight of what’s dumped as some haulers wil try to dump stuff they ain’t supposed to…that slows it too. This goes on 24/7 but still the removal doesn’t go as fast as the frustrated folks trying to recover would like.
The huge consolidated piles have to be removed too, and places found to dump it…8-million cubic yards (and I think the total will go higher) is no small amount. Trash will come in faster than it can be removed, not only household items but the houses that have been ruined, the walls, roofs, bricks and everything else that makes up a building. All into these piles and all back out again.
The folks moving these piles are everyone from regular companies to gypsy haulers with a truck or two. You figure that a regular 5-ton dump truck can haul about 10 cubic yards of gravel a very rough calculation would show it would take 800,000 trips of a 5-ton to move that 8-milion cubic yards of debris. That’s rough as the household trash won’t compact as nicely as gravel, it’s just an idea as to the scale of the removal.
Then you have the thousands of drivers, most of whom will be from outside of the Houston area, who will be doing this work. They will be competing with residents and the thousands of craft people coming in to make money off of the rebuilding for supplies, food, gasoline, oil, tires, you name it. A severely damaged area trying to support as many, if not more, prople than it hosted when it was whole…more delays.
One example: tires. You wouldn’t normally think of flat tires as a problem but in a storm damaged areas where buildings are destroyed and hauled away, from yards to parking lots to streets, are litered with nails, screws and other sharp debris, flat tires are epidemic. Now, you have to think of how many places there are within a mile of your house that fix flats? Remove about a third due to damages and increase the number of flat tires by at least ten. Even if you have a spare tire or two you’re still going to have to get the flats to a repair shop, get in line, be short of them until they were repaired and hope you don’t get a flat while all of your spares are being fixed. Flats were one of the big things that slowed hauling during the Katrina recovery, I remember the lines at the ad hoc repair shops and paying $40 to get a nail pulled and a tire patched.
There’ll be complaints, people are anxious to be whole again, it’s to be expected. As things progress the complaints will lessen, it’s a long and hard process to recover and folks gotta vent.

Maybe the ancient civilizations weren’t so dumb, building on top of rubble instead of moving the rubble.

Plus it’s getting harder and harder to find places to dump it. Houston’s gonna make a huge pile somewhere. In Berlin they just piled up the war rubble into a huge hill, covered it with dirt and made a wreck area into a rec area.

Or, you could do like in Tennessee, build on the edge of a very tall cliff and throw the trash off the cliff.

Got no sleep last night, due to weird experience with Tucker the dog.
I let him out in the back yard after dinner last night, and he did some fence running with the neighbor’s dogs, and I was outside talking to them. Now the weird part.
Tucker would go to the back door to ask to be let in, but when I opened the door, he refused to come in. He did this all night! I stayed awake to try to keep him from barking and whining, which he would do as if he wanted to come in, but he wouldn’t come in, and ran the other way when I got near him. He went without water all this time. I figured he would eventually get thirsty and would come in to drink, but no luck. Finally, I put on a coat and sat down in a chair, and he got close enough for me to grab him. He fought me, when I got him in, he ate and drank. Now he is chewing on a cow hoof. He seems to be fine, but his behavior was strange.
In the past he has always come in when called without a problem. Very puzzling, and I don’t think I can let him out now unless he is on a lead. If anybody has suggestions, I’ll be glad to hear them.

Is it time to neuter him, yet? Could be he smells something close by.

I don’t want to alarm you, but I am afraid I will. I had a dog years ago that would wake me in the middle of the night and ask to go out. He would go to the farthest part of the yard and sit by the fence. He wouldn’t come when I called and after a half hour or so, I would go out and put him on a leash and bring him back into the house. But he acted funny even then. He died about year later of kidney failure and I always wondered if it was starting back then. There were no other symptoms that I could see. I don’t know if there was anything we could have done, but I sure wish I had done something.

My dogs have done weird things like that from time to time. I’m betting the boy will be tired and have a lazy day, and back to normal afterwards.
Of course, we have a policy of letting puppies pick us, rather than us pick them. This has given us 40+ years of some really strange dogs, who fit right in with our really strange family.

One of ours, just last night, heard Czarina knocking the last of something thst died in the fridge out of a plastic container. She thought it was someone at the door, though the knocks sound only vaguely alike, and started to bark. Dog Two, facing out the back door, starts to vark while Dog One now thinks Dog Two’s found the source of the knocks and starts barking facing out the back door, only to have the rest of the pack join in. Sunday night.

he is becoming male independent and testing your commands and coaxing, IMO….I have been going through this with my new guy, who is about 15 months old, and is very frisky and full of spirit….he will sit with us with our little female dachs, who goes to sleep on the sofa next to us watching TV…and he will want to play, but when he is not getting attention, he goes and stands by the door and looks at us….wife will often take him outside thinking he wants to go out…but he does nothing….he mostly hopes she will play with him all by himself, and maybe he would get a treat….his NEED is attention….he knows I will not take him out unless I know he hasn’t been out for long enough to maybe go before bedtime when he sleeps crated in our bedroom.
but he is testing us and our commands….and I think he will get through it with consistency and firm but gentle insistence on his doing our deal and not his….
bet Tucker is becoming male….our guy started hiking the leg about 2 months ago…he was neutered when he was old enough as a young pup, and he doesn’t much do damage anywhere…he is just FULL of energy, and also…we have occasional cats or rabbits or possums or even an Owl outside that get his attention big time even at night.

MINNEAPOLIS — Days after linking arms with players during the singing of the national anthem, Detroit Lions owner Martha Ford asked her team not to kneel for the playing of the song during a team meeting last week.
In exchange for finding a different way to protest racial injustices around the country, Ford said she would be willing to donate both money and her name to community issues at the heart of the players’ cause.
Two idiots kneeled anyway at Sunday’s game.

Seemed like a good idea, since I found turkeys at Aldi to be about the best buy they had on meat.
Anyhow, what a weekend. Now, back to work catching up on all the behind chores.

I wouldn’t call it Fall here, but I have to admit it actually felt cool. It was only in the low 80’s when I went out at 9:00 AM and the humidity was down in the 60’s. I will settle for that after this last summer.

Not to make ya jealous aus, but this morning I awoke to the first snowfall of the year. Currently my community is under a winter storm warning, it is a balmy 33 degrees, and the falling snow is absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. :0)

😦 I am jealous. I actually lived in Upstate NY for a couple of years and loved it when the snow fell. It seemed magical.

:0) I view snow as being God’s version of glitter. (I love it when there’s just the right amount of sparkle on the landscape but I really dislike it when God spills the bottle of glitter and I can’t get it off of my driveway)

Sounds like a great weekend – no matter what you ate! (Although homemade bread and turkey does sound good!)

Fall chill here, too, Menagerie. I like it much. Into the 40s at night now with a few days remaining of high 60s, which is very nice as well! Then in a few weeks it will become chill and damp indefinitely! Which is still ok still it’s never 30 below and I don’t have to shovel the stuff that falls.

We have had cool weather for several days now, and I love it. The next two days will be warmer, then some rain.

It’s fifties at night here, seventies in the daytime, but pretty cool until mid afternoon. Beautiful sunshine. I am loving it. No sign of leaves turning yet, that won’t start here for weeks more, given the temps we’ve had.
Plenty of time to enjoy the fall before winter makes her way here, I hope.

Tom Petty. One of the few artists who doesn’t have a song I don’t love.
A good man, with whom I would gladly sit, around a campfire.

Tom Petty of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is: dead/unconscious/make a guess /at 66 of, ironically, a broken heart. So far announcements have run from ‘unconscious’ to ‘dead’ to ‘no comment’…sorta makes ya feel uncomfortable when famous people who can pay big bucks in cash get the same treatment the Great Unwashed gets.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Apropos of today, and nothing:
F.E.A.R. = Future Events Appearing Real
we cannot know what is going to happen in the future. we are in charge of our selves in the present. when we anticipate bad behavior on others in the future…we set ourselves up for a resentment, and we become defensive and potentially cause things to happen to ourselves that otherwise would not occur possibly.
Our task is to stay Centered on Our Reality, and not drift into future projections, even when we have past history that we use to forecast future events…they are not Real, but exist in our mind.
As such, we allow the person we resent to own our minds, spirit, and behavior…they have no idea about our pain, as they are not part of it. The only relief is to choose for ourselves what we wish to believe and seek the positive in everyone until we reach that point in time where our Fear will either be proven right, or we will discover we wasted our precious life moments thinking in the Virtual Future of our HEAD.
