The footage–originally without music or narration–is mesmerizing. The train called Bergensbanen goes from Oslo to Bergen in about seven hours. It has an operating speed of 160 kph (99 mph).

My favorite song by him, he is on the keyboards, the woman voice is phenomenal.

I saw this video a few months back, and yes. Quite mesmerising and beautiful footage and music. Been listening to a lot of beat-driven instrumental tracks (heh) like this lately. If you make a Pandora playlist with the seed “Nightmares on Wax”, you get a lot of goodness.

Yes, mesmerizing, and absolutely beautiful. Looks like much of Alaska, except we don’t have train track or road there. Dog teams go a little slower, but with equal beauty. Thanks Lucille. Time to start getting ready for winter, it is almost October.

Listening to a Puerto Rican official saying that getting suplis is not thst big of an issue, thry hsve thousands of containers in port. Problem is getting them out into the country, the roads and many bridges are out.
That brings the question to mind: what’s the Puerto Rican National Guard doing? If you look at their structure they have an Engineer battalion and they should be able to clear roads and navigate rough terrain with their vehicles. They have a Quartermaster battalion that does supply work, a Combat Sustainment and a Forward Support Company. They have two Infantry battalions, an MP battalion, an Aviation battalion and other units, all of which are equipped to work in extremely bad conditions. What are they doing?

That Guard capacity is supposed to be the state’s first line in a disaster, the Federal machine takes time to get in gear so the Guard’s trained and equipped to hold the line. They should preposition equipment and supplies, either ensuring the things needed are moved to secure locations or that they are safe where they are stored. They should have known this as the story of how the Louisiana Guard HQ left vital equipment at a site outside of NOLA that went over ren feet underwater was the topic of discussion at the Guard for years.

Trump’s getting hammered for things that are not his fault here, not that that’s unusual, he really has little to do with the Guard, unless they are Federalized the belong to the PR governor. Trump’s getting blamed for supplies not getting there but they can’t distribute the supplies they have. What PR needs to at least hold the line should largely be there, including fuel bladders that can be flown to areas to support aerial operations…why aren’t we getting scoop on what’s happening?

Yeah, but the Guard and civilian government’s job is to monitor the storms and get a response ready ahead of time. Disaster response is the Guard’s bread and butter, the La Guard sorta dropped the ball….OK, thru bad planning drown all of the equipment they’d need to respond but that kesson was long learned.
The Air National Guard has a wing of C-130s and someone should have been out clearing runways in the hinterland with military or civilian dozers…130s can land and take off on crap tarmac. They have an air control squadron too to do the runway control.
Where are the fuel bladders and helicopters to carry them to where they’re needed? Should be setting up refueling points that would work with fuel for ground vehicles and aircraft, basic military stuff.
Trimp can’t just grab the Guard but DoD should be independently rolling active duty troops, hsvingbthem ready and standing in the door waiting for Trump to say ‘go’, more badic stuff, they knew the scope of the storm and that they’d be ordered up and out. AF would put mobile, self-sufficient air traffic control on the ground, local Guard could clear the runway if needed and engineers from Army, Marines and AF could be flown in.
It’s a big mess but that’s whst we were paid to do, clean up big messes.

Remember Katrina? Peopke bobbing in the water while the city’s transit bus and school bus flerts, all fueled and ready to go, sat flooded? Where’s THAT lesson gone?
The Guard has drivers, I can bet that you can winnow the general, population and gobd dtivers…the niceties of normal daily life as they pertain to who drives whst where and when should not apply in a major disaster. When you mull the ‘don’t hsve enough drivers’ excuse around in your mind it bevones less and less viable. Who, if they’ve ever rented even a 5-ton U-Haul truck can’t drive a relief truck?
We’ve had 16 years since 911 and Homeland Security offices at all levels from Federal to city. Through misson creep they’ve grown to encompass disaster response and allegedly trained and learned from disasters and screwups all the way…what’s going wrong? The excuses that ‘this was too big’ (you just planning for the small ones?), ‘this couldn’t have been foreseen’ (what did you do during the training/planning?), ‘this will provide a valuable reference during the next occurrence’ (see previous parenthetical remark) will flow and people will buy them. Ah well, mañana, mañana.

Gave me flashbacks to the local and state pols spouting CYA press conferences during Katrina. What they were saying just didn’t jive with what was going on on the ground. Then again the workers with filthy, stinky clothes that hadn’t been changed in a week, who were eating things salvaged from grocery stores and wirking 20 or more hours a day were too close to the action and too involved to have a ckear and objective view of the big picture.
Note the pols and talking heads sre shaven, coifed, neat and clean. To viewers this is their own natural condition and they tend to unconsciously accept that as the norm on the site yet the pols have been without water and power for how long?
Our pressers in NOLA were frequently staged in a major hotel where the pols and military privileged were set up. Very early on they had power, A/C, water, clean bedding, great food…all of the necessities the power structure needed to ensure the little trash worker bees out doing the actual work and living-eating in the filth didn’t have. I remember the NOPD chief calling the rank in on a meeting when the city was dry, no utilities had been restored and cleanup hadn’t even begun and telling the rank they had to go back to wearing full, clean uniforms INCLUDING the white shirt. LEA were showering in FEMA shower trailers that arrived in October or November, before that they were showering on our side out in a courtyard with a garden hose, hanging their uniforms on a fence and washing them off with the same hose.
That cured me of believing more than 10% of the stuff pols say during disaster pressers, their primary interest is limiting the splash-back from their miserable pre-disaster works. Would be more accepting if they offered the heads of a few of the Homeland Security officials whose job it was to be prepared for these kibds of disasters.

Today is the feast day of the Archangel Michael, also known as Michaelmas. ZurichMike gets his baptismal name from the Archangel because ZurichMike’s mom’s due date for ZurichMike all those years ago was September 29th (OK, I missed it by a few days, but mom had already decided on Michael).

Archangel Michael famously kicked disobedient Lucifer and his demons out of heaven and into hell, and is anticipated to defeat Satan’s armies at the end of all time. For now, Archangel Michael furiously battles to keep the line of separation bright and strong between good and evil spirits. Learn more about Archangel Michael:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_(archangel)

Although he is a spiritual enforcer, he is not the highest of angels in the traditional hierarchy of angels. That is reserved for seraphim. When we learn that all dominions and powers will be under Christ’s feet, it is not just temporal powers, but spiritual ones as well. Learn more about the hierarchy of angels (and demons):
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_angelology

Catholics call him Saint Michael (saint in the sense of holy, not a special human being). The prayer to Saint Michael was said at the conclusion of Mass in Catholic churches until Vatican II decided, apparently, that it was too warlike and awful (much like Memorial Day celebrations at schools were cancelled in the 1960s). Learn more about the Saint Michael prayer:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_to_Saint_Michael

However, in the times we face, the prayer is powerful and direct. It is not as soaring at the Breastplate of St. Patrick, but it gets the job done. We are beset by evil – spiritual beings and incarnate beings that seek the ruin of souls and destruction of human dignity.

Today, on the feast day of Archangel Michael, please do ZurichMike the favor of reciting the Saint Michael prayer:

Yo! Diabetics…tired of those finger pricks? Tired of that manual log? Check out Freestyle’s new monitor: http://www.freestylelibrepro.us/patients.html

Price for the meter should be around $70 (that’s average price in the 40+ countries already selling it) with the wearable sensor coming in at about $70 every two weeks. FDA’s approved it and Freestyle’s talking to insurance companies about covering it. Beats those pin pricks and it gives constant monitoring.

Yes, as a backup. Thing is you have a constant monitoring rather than a one or two hour set point. If you miss a regular pin prick check you have a backup and you have an idea of your blood sugar throughout the day as you go about your routine. Howzat trek thru the mall doing you? Howzat forbidden gnosh you partook of going? Getting too close to a bad sugar low and not noticing? Pkus you have that chart that shows your pattern through the day.
I’m betting they’re saying that until you see how the monitor’s working for you and to give you confidence in the system. It’s already been proven in over 40 countries and the FDA’s given it an OK. I love the idea as I don’t have to carry my rig around when I’m working to see when my sugar’s getting too low, ditto when driving, I just get to look at the monitor. Should be super simple to compare the pin prick and bloodless monitors sgainst each other for accuracy, as it is I have three vampire units that I check against each other (emergency backups) and they vary by 5 or more points on the same blood drop.

        Liked by 1 person

        • It really depends how well the sensor works for you. When Medtronic first came out with their sensor, some people went ahead and used their phone to make the pump and sensor a closed loop system that would treat their blood sugars automatically. I haven’t had that much luck with the sensor so I use it as a back up/sugar monitor (remember yesterday when I said I couldn’t eat fries anymore? The sensor is how I learned I couldn’t eat fries anymore.)

Dexcom consistently gets high ratings for theirs. It should be interesting to see the feedback on the Freestyle one.

Depending on how many test you do a day, czar, you may not need it. But if you want to have a security system for your blood sugar as you mentioned, or get a better picture of what your sugar does based on what you eat, you might want to give it a whirl and see what you think,.
