        Some culprit named Lucille, probably…she loves Yogi brand licorice tea.

        At one time I had a good-size collection of antique and collectible cups/saucers. Alas, when one downsizes, collections often get culled. A group of seven pals and I used to gather once a month at each others’ homes for afternoon tea which gave us opportunities to show off our latest acquisitions…LOL!

        My other collection was sugar and creamers which about ten years ago was mostly donated to charity auctions. I retained some of them, one being a Havilland sugar and creamer from the era when large sugar bowls showed that the owner was wealthy, sugar being a costly commodity.

          I have an antique child’s china tea set which will go to my granddaughter. It also have a chocolate set. I will probably get rid of it when we move. When my mother died, I inherited a lot of antique glassware and dishes, which I had no interest in. In the course of researching the worth of the items I became interested in the many varieties of old dishes you find in antique stores.

          I have some beautiful pieces, most from both sides of my family. However, I don’t want to keep them when we move.

          Beautiful tea cup Lucille. My MIL used to collect tea cups and saucers but she is going through a purge of her house and she donated them to a local charity. I remember how pretty and delicate many of them were. Your get togethers sound really fun!

            Greatest group of women I’ve ever personally known. Each with very different personalities and professions but we all got along famously…no gossiping or backbiting, just love and care for one another. If we had a problem with some individual’s action or conversation, we’d take it to the person directly.

            Miss them terribly, those still in the world and others in the next.

      My Mom left me a collection of blue carnival glass. It all sits on a shelf above my livingroom window. It’s pretty, but needs dusting a lot!. My daughter said if I left it to her, it would probably be sold, so I’ll just enjoy it while I can!

        That’s pretty much why I gave the items to charity…most in my family wouldn’t want the collections. Recently I went through the china and glass and pulled out all the items owned by my mother and my grandmothers and gave those to two nieces who I knew would appreciate them. What’s left they can dispense as they wish when the inevitable arrives.

    From a Hillary Clinton Anecdote about Putin

    Hillary Clinton in an interview with the editor of The New Yorker on that magazine’s RADIO HOUR podcast told a very interesting anecdote about Vladimir Putin.

    He apparently treated her in their meetings with cool contempt, not deigning to look at her or speak with her except when he had to.

    In an attempt to engage him, she raised various subjects that she knew were or would likely be of interest to him.

    At one point she brought up Stalingrad and the incredible suffering and bravery of the Russian people during the German seige.

    Putin did respond to that: “Let me tell you a story,” he said.

    My father was at Stalingrad. There was an instance where my father was walking past a pile of dead bodies, when he sighted the leg of a woman whom he recognized as that of his wife because of the shoes on the body.

    Frantically he began struggling to pull the body out of the pile of the dead. Those who had collected these bodies screamed at him, and tried to force him away.

    But, he fought them off, eventually removing his wife’s body, and carrying her back to their apartment.

    When he got her remains there, he discovered that she actually was alive.

    Over time, Putin’s father nursed his wife back to health.

    “After the war,” said Putin, “I was born.”

    I looked up his date of birth. 1952. Seven years after the war.

    The Battle of Stalingrad and the Seige during which hundreds of thousands died lasted from 23 August 1942 – 2 February 1943.

      What was the purpose of Putin telling Clinton that story, if he even did? We know what an astoundingly prolific liar she is. Anyway, the story Is mostly a fabrication.       Also, it’s highly doubtful he spoke to her in English, though he speaks English quite well. He generally uses interpreters when speaking to Americans….sort of a Russian thing. So how does she even claim to know what he was really saying?

      As for the title, “Why Russia Is Not Like America”, IMO Hill’s little anecdote has absolutely nothing to do with nations but with politicians and perhaps Putin’s complete contempt for Hillary (not contempt for women in politics–he gets along with Angela quite well and even speaks German with her–but contempt for HILLARY).

      Maybe he’d heard that she claimed to be named after Edmund Hillary and thought he’d tell a tall tale, too.

      And, on top of that, Hillary Clinton doesn’t deserve to even speak the name of Stalingrad in reference to their heroism during World War II. She of Bosnian sniper fame. Puke!

      Not to take away from their heroic actions, in any way…however, people fought to the death in Stalingrad because they had no way of escape. Stalin decreed that anyone leaving the city, including children, would be shot. He wanted Stalingrad to stand even if it got down to one live Russian. He didn’t care how many Russians died. Frankly, I think Hillary would be right at home in Stalin’s Soviet Union.

    A good day. Saved the Tangerine Tree. Cut the other tree that got knocked in to the Tangerine tree out and it is happy. Now that dang Bee that hangs out in it and gets ON my Rum and Coke will have a Safe SPACE….I AM SO PC.

      Glad to hear you’re making progress toward order. After Katrina, I had to drag most of the limbs from our live oak in the back yard around to the front for the irregular pick-up day. Took about a week to clean it up, but over time, the yard looked pretty normal, altho there was too much sunlight for several years until the trees filled in again. After Andrew my mother’s neighborhood in Kendall looked simply awful because most of the banyan trees were gone & it took years too grow new trees.

    One of my Facebook friends, in a discussion about the Draft:

    I was drafted in 1969. I showed up for my physical and had they called me I would have gone…I must concede, I had just graduated from college, I did very well on the qualifying test, and I doubt I would have wound up in the jungle with a rifle unless I volunteered, which I wasn’t going to do.

    In the end I got as far as the eye test and that was it.

    Several years later I was in Israel and very close to staying, close enough that I went and arranged to be drafted if I made the final decision to stay. The guy I talked to asked me why I hadn’t been in the US army, I told him, and he said,”We have a different eye test here. We count your eyes. If you have one, you pass.”

      Small nations in desperate times conscript or take as volunteers anyone who is standing.

      At the beginning of the U.S. involvement in World War II, the U.S. mainly wanted the young. My Dad had to register for the draft even though he was 35 in 1940 when the conscription law was passed. When his number was called, he went in for his physical exam and they discovered his heart had a malfunction. It was then that he found out he had had Rheumatic Fever as a young boy instead of the suspected Malaria many got in the Arkansas of 1912. So they sent him home.

      He went to work in the southern California shipyards. Then several years later, the government was pretty much taking anyone who could walk and Dad went down to try to join again. By that time, however, Dad three dependents and since he was in a necessary-to-the-war-effort job, they sent him home again. Not serving in the war was something he always regretted.

        Good grief, just read the time line in response to his behavior. Liberals are all saying this is normal. Some woman (maybe a man) said that her husband has had bigger blow ups over not being able to open a package. These people are angry lunatics.

          I appreciate my quiet life where there is no yelling and throwing things. And they make fun of us……they are toxic individuals. And I’m not entirely upset with them in making that statement – apparently they are comfortable with that kind of everyday living because they are used to it??

            My parents were all kinds of dysfunctional. As an adult, I realize there is no real normal, but some people have more poison in their system than others. They would fight bitterly over tiny everyday things.

            When I got married they accused me of letting my husband run over me because we chose to have a more peaceful home. We have had our share of knock down drag outs, as we both have pretty forceful personalities, but it’s been more of a pick your battles kind of life. I don’t think they understood that, but they did come to accept it, and they loved and respected him because he stood up to them, but refused to enter into their madness to do it.
