      Yes they have Math scores < 60%, reading scores < 60% these are national. Average local teacher salary in my local area is $74,000. Local school district is one million in the hole, for this fiscal year due to increased cost of teacher retirement fund…….and its pay to play for all athletics programs…..

    Watching a piece on Fox News earlier. Newt was there along with a few other pundits discussing the power that huge tech companies like Google, Microsoft, Appke, etc have. They said the Rats were furious over the perceived Russian influence in the last election and the RINOs were seriously pissed over their abilities to quash free speech and privacy (camera angle was wrong to check for crossed fingers). Both parties were just plain pissed that these lumbering behemoths of unchecked power could cause such upheavals and wield such power unchecked.
    The topic ran to how could Congress could institute legislation to break up and/or control these companies. Newt was going on about how how the levels of unhappiness with these tech companies was uniting the parties to break them up and put real restraints on them and how the irritation was growing daily.
    Off to one side of the table was the tech industry spokesgeek in slacks, goasses and camelhair blazer. He launches into a controlled tirade on how Congress should keep its hands off of an industry they’re totally ignorant of, how the internet was mankind’s greatest invention ane evolved st the hands of the omniscient technogeeks while Congress/the government has never created nor is capable of creating anything as glorious and world-shaking as the internet and should keep its hands off. The delivery was somewhere between a warning that the techies had Congress’s internet search and porn purchase records and a reminder that Congress could break a flagpole with a rubber hammer.
    There was a notable scent of burning Newt in the air, I’m betting he’s on the phone calling in. Congressional hit team as we speak.

    It was a gorgeous day, I weeded and un-seeded the garden near the back door. Harvested about a half pound of fennel seeds (for homemade Italian sausage once the barber begins harvesting pigs), distributed parsley from the flower heads I had let grow, trimmed the rosemary bushes, said hello to some worms and did general maintenance. Surprise! I had forgotten, what with the zinnias as high as an elephant’s eye and all, that there were two chive plants and two different kinds of thyme – all very happy amongst the weeds and flowers. And…..yes, a baby bay tree has sprung from the roots of the tree that was winter killed several years ago! Now that right there was a true gift.

    I saw several great blue herons, some late season osprey, an eagle, hummingbirds and indigo buntings. Various bugs and beetles including the obnoxious and most unwelcome no-see-ums. Fish jumping and roils in the cove. All the while, it was quiet. Peaceful. Contemplative. Delicious.

    Suddenly, around 4 o’clock, it sounded like the soundtrack from a war movie. There were two jets chasing each other around – sonic booms so loud my neighbor called to ask me if we were under attack. Of course we both went outside to see if we could find the jets and man-o-man! They were surely fighter jets, but different shapes. However one definitely looked like it was ‘packing heat’. There was an airshow at Andrews today, so maybe they were out having some fun? Dunno what they were up to, but the sounds were impressive.

    Wonder surrounds. There’s the big stuff, like blue herons and fighter jets that are difficult to ingnore, and there’s the little stuff, like herbs you forgot were there and worms. We’ll appreciate all that wonder when we take the time to ‘quiet’ ourselves. Not before.

    Of course, in the case of sonic booms, all bets are off on that whole ‘quiet’ thing.

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

    Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

    Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
    Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

    We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
    Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

    And, Lord, we pray for help for the people of Texas and Louisiana who are caught in the flooding. And, now we add everyone in the path of Irma to our prayer for safety.

    IN GOD WE TRUST

    It was found that the Act of Congress dated January 18, 1837, prescribed the mottoes and devices that should be placed upon the coins of the United States. This meant that the mint could make no changes without the enactment of additional legislation by the Congress. In December 1863, the Director of the Mint submitted designs for new one-cent coin, two-cent coin, and three-cent coin to Secretary Chase for approval. He proposed that upon the designs either OUR COUNTRY; OUR GOD or GOD, OUR TRUST should appear as a motto on the coins. In a letter to the Mint Director on December 9, 1863, Secretary Chase stated:
    I approve your mottoes, only suggesting that on that with the Washington obverse the motto should begin with the word OUR, so as to read OUR GOD AND OUR COUNTRY. And on that with the shield, it should be changed so as to read: IN GOD WE TRUST.
    The Congress passed the Act of April 22, 1864. This legislation changed the composition of the one-cent coin and authorized the minting of the two-cent coin. The Mint Director was directed to develop the designs for these coins for final approval of the Secretary. IN GOD WE TRUST first appeared on the 1864 two-cent coin.

    Another Act of Congress passed on March 3, 1865. It allowed the Mint Director, with the Secretary’s approval, to place the motto on all gold and silver coins that “shall admit the inscription thereon.” Under the Act, the motto was placed on the gold double-eagle coin, the gold eagle coin, and the gold half-eagle coin. It was also placed on the silver dollar coin, the half-dollar coin and the quarter-dollar coin, and on the nickel three-cent coin beginning in 1866. Later, Congress passed the Coinage Act of February 12, 1873. It also said that the Secretary “may cause the motto IN GOD WE TRUST to be inscribed on such coins as shall admit of such motto.”

    The use of IN GOD WE TRUST has not been uninterrupted. The motto disappeared from the five-cent coin in 1883, and did not reappear until production of the Jefferson nickel began in 1938. Since 1938, all United States coins bear the inscription. Later, the motto was found missing from the new design of the double-eagle gold coin and the eagle gold coin shortly after they appeared in 1907. In response to a general demand, Congress ordered it restored, and the Act of May 18, 1908, made it mandatory on all coins upon which it had previously appeared. IN GOD WE TRUST was not mandatory on the one-cent coin and five-cent coin. It could be placed on them by the Secretary or the Mint Director with the Secretary’s approval.

    The motto has been in continuous use on the one-cent coin since 1909, and on the ten-cent coin since 1916. It also has appeared on all gold coins and silver dollar coins, half-dollar coins, and quarter-dollar coins struck since July 1, 1908.

    Bless ya’s, Stellars. I’m currenty studying Aaron Neville’s vocal style. It’s quite unique. I’ve never heard anyone approximate it, ever. Nobody can do that. I’m starting to figure it out, what he does. His accuracy when he switches from falsetto to normal voice is astounding, but not impossible. It’s just that nobody wants to work that hard. You have to think, mathematically, while you sing. Most people, aside from Bobby McFerrin, don’t want to do that. That’s like, hard. Beardyman knows.

    One day I’ll sing, publicly, like Neville.
