Thanks, Colonel. I was just thinking about our troops in Afghanistan and checking the weather at Bagram. It’s a livable 81F presently.

And in Baghdad at the ironically named Camp Victory, it’s 92F. If victory could be measured in sweat and determination to win the battle, our men and women on the ground would have long since won it.

        Praying for them all.

Morning everyone 🙂 Very nice pictures, makes me want to be there! No BF for me, have to go to doc this AM 😦 Will just leave you with pic and bio of the day, (as well as one other silly post next)
Painting by: Eugène Boudin (1824 –1898) was one of the first French landscape painters to paint outdoors. Boudin was an expert marine painter, experiencing the sea due to his father’s work, and himself working on a boat at age 10. After abandoning the sea, Boudin’s father opened a stationery and picture frame store. Eugene worked there, later opening his own shop where he came into contact with artists, and exhibited their works. They encouraged Boudin to become an artist. At the age of 22 he abandoned the shop, started painting full-time, and in 1850 earned a scholarship. In 1857/58 Boudin befriended Claude Monet, then only 18, and persuaded him to give up his teenage caricature drawings and to become a landscape painter. The two remained lifelong friends and Monet later paid tribute to Boudin’s early influence. Boudin joined Monet in the first Impressionist exhibition in 1873. Boudin continued to exhibit at the Paris Salons, receiving a gold medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle. In 1892 Boudin was made a knight of the Légion d’honneur, in recognition of his talents and influence on the art of his contemporaries. Late in life he returned to his home at Deauville in ill-health. He died within sight of the Channel waters and skies he had painted so often. The Eugène Boudin Prize is an award given by the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
I am usually not a fan of either red or still lifes, but I do like this painting which has both! The “still” life is in a more natural, loose and informal outdoor setting, with bright and clear reds. I admire many of Boudin’s great marine paintings he is famous for, but was somehow drawn to this painting to be the first of his to post.

    Enjoy!

My brother lives on the Cutler Ridge in southeast Miami, in the red evacuation zone. His landlord lives in a house built in 1914 of 14″ thick coral rock, about 12′ above sea level. House has withstood many hurricanes, including the 1928 one which killed a bunch of people who took a tour on the train thru the Keys during the eye, and, of course, Andrew in 1992. He took the landlord to the airport yesterday, & is putting all valuables in the house before driving north Saturday night. It takes about 18 hours to drive from Miami to Tallahassee, where I-10 joins, at 70 mph, but he said if he goes faster than the hurricane (currently about 15 mph), he’ll be ok. He thinks he’ll go back to check the house after Irma passes, but those of us who returned after Katrina don’t believe the roads will be passable for as much as weeks to non-artery roads. I-59 had trees across it for miles, and it took our neighbors 3 days to cut their way out our dead end road with no county help.

Hearing he made the decision to zip westward to Naples/Ft Myers area and escape the Miami strike. Seems to have talked to the same evac specialist who recommended those ships go south to Cuba to escape the storm.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

And, Lord, we pray for help for the people of Texas and Louisiana who are caught in the flooding. And, now we add everyone in the path of Irma to our prayer for safety.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
