Here is a website with writings by a woman who lives in Bezerkley, and has for quite a while. http://www.robinofberkeley.com/ She describes herself in this paragraph: “But there is always hope. If a pagan, progressive, feminist, vegetarian type like me could do a total l80 in a few short years, anything is possible. If I could fall intensely and perpetually in love with the true blue Savior of the World, there are still signs of life in this country. Even in Berkeley.”

He made the point I was after exactly, and carefully pointed out the difference in doctrine. Perfect. When it come s to a number of issues, immigration at the forefront, most of the bishops are simply pimps, with an agenda that has nothing to do with religion, although they can cry crocodile tears and pretend.

Apparently when they get to that level they really forget where the money comes from. With all due respect, the Church produces nothing. Not saying it should, I’m just saying that we billpayers are getting tired.

And I still say they are a hypocritical bunch.

As to some that are not hypocrites: Look what happened to Cardinal Burke and the situation with Malta, and the 4 Cardinals who questioned the Pope’s confusing views on Communion for the divorced. Also, a Venezuelan Bishop or Cardinal told off the Pope’s politics a week or two ago.

  8. So I got caught up in a dust with liberals yesterday on FB who were engaged in the typical hysteria over why Confederate monuments shouldn’t be in parks. What do you all do to deal with people who run around whining about “white privilege?” I blocked them. Is there anything else that can be done? Any way to reason with these crazier-than-a-$3-bill mental cases? (Based on some family history in my Euro-descended family in the not-too-distant past, I don’t handle people who tell me that “even if your family was poor or disadvantaged you have an advantage if you’re white” very well. Mostly because I know that it’s total crap.)

Mornin Rhea! “Mostly because I know that it’s total crap” I agree. My father is of Italian descent. He has black hair, black eyes, and darker skin than some who call themselves black. It amazes me that it doesn’t concern these people the prejudice that still to this day exists against (darker) Italians (and other groups as well). Think of what is out there in the “culture” about them : Jersey Shore, The Sopranos, etc, etc. But every day we get up and try to better ourselves, and our families without constant whining. They just are taking a temper tantrum because they fear the loss of their extra benefits will cause them to face their inadequacies, and either they will have to work harder, or they will fail. They are so used to having two sets of rules: one for them and one for everyone else. They think they are special, and everyone else is not as smart as them. Well welcome to the real world!

I had a friend whose father was Italian. She was very dark brown, a beautiful girl. But, she told me when they tried to get a hotel room in Miami back in the 50’s they wouldn’t let them in because they thought they were negroid. I was horrified that happened to them and that hotels did that at all.

There were still segregated restaurants, and bathrooms at gas stations, in the small towns around my college in north Mississippi in 1973-74. My group of 8 or 9 friends was denied service once at family-owned restaurant because one of us was black. We were told we would only be served if she went around back to the “colored” dining room. We all got up and left.

He has lots of activity on his posts, and it’s fun to discuss and argue. The ones who just name call and insult are tedious, and the ones I have blocked aren’t missed by me, anyway.

          • Their version of “willing to discuss” was that they listed all these articles about white privilege that I had to go read to inform myself because I wasn’t keeping an open mind to the dogma they were reciting. They never made an attempt to have an argument; I “wasn’t willing to keep an open mind” and needed to “educate myself.”

I don’t have an issue with dogma – everyone recites them, all the time. I know I do. But if people can’t defend their dogma, and instead demand that I go out and research it, well, I take issue to that. I defend my dogmas in the hopes that my defense will make sense and then people will follow up by learning more. I defend even if I’m providing other links because I never assume that the person I’m talking too will actually click that link. I don’t demand that people have to research my position because I know they won’t and defending my dogmas give me an opportunity to educate others and see where the holes in my arguments are at the same time.

4th of July night at karaoke, the bartender was pouring them stiff and a friend insisted on buying me one more that I shouldn’t have had. At closing, I knew I shouldn’t be driving, so I pulled my guitar out of my trunk and sat on the bumper to play for a while.
About 3 a.m., a Hispanic employee was finally leaving with a black friend who had hung around. Both are Facebook friends, and started teasing me about my white privilege of being able to play guitar at 3 in the morning in an empty parking lot without being harassed by the police. I just let it slide, and then it was, “Hey, do you think you could play this song?”
The Hispanic is the same one who said he knew I wasn’t racist or misogynistic because he sees how I treat people, so how could I possibly support Trump?
“Cognitive dissonance” is one of his favorite phrases, which he applies often to Christians in his atheist Facebook posts.
I find it amusing that I cause him some cognitive dissonance. 🙂
I figure if I can soften the opposing arguments, it’s a good thing.
I love my friends, even if the Enemy has them deluded for the time being.

I was just sitting down in front of the boob tube for lunch after a busy morning, going through however many 100’s of shows on cable. The past few months starting with TCM’s ‘summer of discontent’, there seems lately to be mostly horror and/or depressing movies broadcast. Interesting. DH and I are buying as many positive, and “old fashioned” dvd’s as we can. I won’t have my mind filled with the depression, and outright evil, on the TV. Anyone notice this? I don’t watch much TV, so I am appalled at what is shown.

Another wonderful film, SINCE YOU WENT AWAY, starred Claudette Colbert, Joseph Cotten, Jennifer Jones and Shirley Temple…a WWII melodrama beautifully acted.

And ROMAN HOLIDAY with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

To those who say maybe they don’t drive – unless you live directly in one of a very few cities, you have to drive in NH. In NH by law you only have a matter of weeks to get a NH license when you move here. Parts of Nashua, Manchester, and most of Concord, along with the college towns vote Dem, virtually all the rest of the state votes Rep. Everyone here I spoke with, even those who are not thrilled with Trump, thinks he actually won the true NH vote.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

And, Lord, we pray for help for the people of Texas and Louisiana who are caught in the flooding. And, now we add everyone in the path of Irma to our prayer for safety.
