Posted this in General Discussion, but thought it would be a good fit for this Irma thread.

While I was Irma surfing I ran across an interactive, crowdsourced Irma Photo/Video Story site. It doesn’t look like it’s been in operation long, but certainly looks promising:

My biggest concern now is having to bring in all the loose things on my patio. Every pot will have critters of some kind in it. 🙄

  3. This hurricane is going out to the Atlantic. It began to turn right, about an hour ago. Something to the West is about to push it east, as indicated in Stella’s first pic.

Been talking with my Mom, she’s been taking notes on lined paper. They’re prepared to bug out, and go to her brother’s place in GA.

She did the same thing when Bob hit north of Boston, when we lived there. I remember standing in the eye, in Melrose, MA, with a few pothead buddies. She’s a bit of a meteorology buff. Which may explain why I love taking pictures of lightning and mackerel skies, sunrises and rough seas.

This is interesting. Our Sheriff Grady Judd won’t let criminals and sexual predators find safety from the storm with decent people. 😯 Gee, if they had done this during Katrina, there wouldn’t have been rapes, etc. He says they won’t have to sit out the storm out in the elements because he will give them a really secure place to shelter………the county jail.

My Dad used that last line – but added to it:

“No rest for the weary, and the righteous don’t need it!”

Said tongue-in-cheek, the point being that there’s always work to be done and you just keep going until it’s done whether you’re tired or not…..

When I was a kid in Florida the 1928 hurricane that killed about 3000 people was still fresh in many minds. That blew the water outta Lake Okeechobee and drowned cities around it. There are bigger levees there now but the area’s also far, far more populated.
I mentiobed this to a local weatherguesser who just said that ‘everyone’s been ordered to leave’ but knows as much about south Florida as the backside of the moon. Sorta dropped the hint that everyone was ordered to leave for Katrina and look how that worked out.

I woke up this morning to heavy rain, wind, and a really dreary day (N.E. Georgia). Early this afternoon, the sun broke out, and a cool breeze. It’s a cold front! Forecast is a low of 51 degrees tonight. I f this is a cold front moving through Georgia, wouldn’t this help steer Irma to the East?
I don’t know enough about weather, but I’ve not heard one forecaster mention this cold front! We’ve been having temps in the 90’s for a long time with high humidity. Now you can feel a real crisp change in the air. I sure hope this helps to steer the storm away!
