Thanks for the articles and link. I also clicked onto link for “The Cult of Ugliness in America” at http://www.tfp.org/the-cult-of-ugliness-in-america/ mentioned in 1st article.Quickly scanned both. I believe the elevation of ugliness over beauty is all part of the grand plan. Have to get back to work -falling behind.

Powerful article, G&C. Best essay I’ve read in a long time.
If, therefore, we are to understand anything about the “Cult of Ugliness,” we must first understand what beauty is. Its definition is basic enough. According to the great saint-philosopher of the Middle Ages, Thomas Aquinas, beauty is that which when seen pleases.* No more, no less. If colors and forms and shapes and compositions would please beggars and kings all at the same time, then that would be considered “beautiful.”
But why does it please? What would make the heart delight in that which the eye saw? Well, Saint Thomas said that if something gives us pleasure then there is always somehow present in the thing which gives pleasure something that is “good,” and the good always attracts us, always pleases us.
Now the good, which a person sees and senses in some beautiful thing, is its “form.” That is, it’s wholeness, its proportions. If such a thing is complete, right, and balanced, it is “good,” and what happens is that we are attracted to that “form” because we sense that there is in the object the same kind of form within us. We see and sense in the form of the beautiful object a “good.” And the good in it echoes the good in us — or at least the good that should be in us. We are fascinated and attracted by that sameness. It delights us and we want to remain in its presence.
Did you ever watch babies and see how they are totally taken in by other babies, how they react to those other little creatures that are so like them? How they stare at other babies, recognize the similarities, and even reach out to touch their faces?
The form of a beautiful object is considered beautiful because it is whole and proportionate, as we would sense ourselves to be whole and proportionate. We delight in the beauty of our own being. There is a resemblance between that which is in us and that which is in the beautiful object. And we are pleased.
But that is not all there is to the story. There is one more element present without which we cannot achieve all this pleasant recognition. Just as the eyes of the body need actual light to see anything, so too the eyes of the soul need a similar light which Saint Thomas calls claritas — clarity — a spark of light, so to speak, that glances off the beautiful object and actually comes from the beautiful object. It is the very same spark of being which comes from the Being of God. The very Being of God is present in the being of the object, and God’s beautiful Being is therefore revealed in the form and proportions and clarity of the object. Precisely because a beautiful thing is a reflection of the Beauty of God, we are naturally drawn and attracted to it as we would be drawn and attracted to God in our desire for union with Him.
The beauty of God is somehow mysteriously reflected in the beauty of being — first in nature, then in trees, sunsets, in faces and forms and figures; and then it is reflected in art — in drawings and paintings and sculptures and even in architecture (and, somehow, even more mysteriously, in music.)
The closer those artistic forms conform to nature, the closer they conform to the supernatural, and the more accurately do they reflect the truth, the beauty, and the goodness of God.

Good Morning, Nyet, and Thank you for a magnificent break feast! Places to see, people to go, so just coffee for me.
“This coffee falls into your stomach, and straightway there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move like the battalions of the Grand Army on the battlefield, and the battle takes place. Things remembered arrive at full gallop, ensign to the wind. The light cavalry of comparisons deliver a magnificent deploying charge, the artillery of logic hurry up with their train and ammunition, the shafts of wit start up like sharpshooters. Similes arise, the paper is covered with ink; for the struggle commences and is concluded with torrents of black water, just as a battle with powder.” ― Honoré de Balzac

I haven’t been updating because it has kind of been one step forward two steps back one day and no change the next. He’s still in critical condition and the machines are up and down on percentages. He had another battle with his lungs after one of his surgeries.
All we can do is continue to pray for God’s will.
I wish I could say people learned from the experience and although at first it seemed they had, not many have followed through with more safety precautions.

michellc I apologize, I had been out of the loop for a few months and do not know the cause of the medical problems of your loved one (I tried searching on michellec here and at treehouse, but that does not work). What matters is that all your family’s difficulties arising from this be lifted up to God, and that He sends His Holy Spirit to comfort, strengthen, and guide you all through this difficult time. You are very wise in saying “All we can do is continue to pray for God’s will.” May God Bless You and yours.

It’s the tracks I’m upset with. I’m still seeing them with crews with no firesuits, not even gloves. You’d think after what happened they’d at least start having a few crew members in firesuits.
It’s always being a monday morning quarterback, but if someone even just had on fire gloves they might have been able to get him out.
If I owned a track they wouldn’t be allowed on the track without firesuits and I would talk to a local fire department and try to get them to come to the track.
They always have an ambulance at the tracks, but this showed that is not enough. At least most do, we have went to a few tracks that didn’t have an ambulance but thankfully my son-in-law refuses to race at a track without an ambulance.

Wow. No fire suits or gloves for the people who are supposed to rescue people from cars that may be burning?
LikeLike
Exactly!!
I honestly never thought about it before this happened. I just always looked for an ambulance when we showed up at a track. Believe it or not there has been one in Arkansas and one in Missouri who did not even have an ambulance. The car never left the trailer at either of those tracks.
There has only been one track who has had crew with firesuits. After this happened all these tracks were saying they were going to have all crew or at least designated crew members with firesuits. So far only one has followed through.
I have grown to love racing, although when my daughter first married a racer I hated it, but I hate how tracks do not take safety important. So with that said I’ve turned to his car and told him he has two kids so although he unlike many takes his own safety seriously he needs to step it up. He now has the safest gas tank you can buy along with a fire suppression system in his car that will automatically go off in case of fire. He always has the safest seat, safest seat belts, hans device, highest rating suit, gloves, shoes and wears the nomex hood and has always taken other precautions in regards to his battery, etc.
Now though his car is as safe as possible.
I know many of these guys have a hard time just affording to put their cars together, racing is expensive. However, he is also a low budget driver, but he first spends his money on safety then the car. He has always had a fire extinguisher in his car, but up until this happened we didn’t know you could get a fire suppression system. He did have an extinguisher that would go off at a certain temp, but this thing will spray the driver, motor and gas tank.

How blessed to know he puts his safety first , he has family and it is obvious that your daughter chose well.
It is amazing thats many drive in unsafe conditions, we went to one rodeo when I lived in Texas and I am pretty sure I remember seeing an ambulance there.
Toward the end of the rodeo, they had a contest 4 people from the audience were to go in the ring(?) with a bull and the last one to leave an area that was marked off by a some hay stacks would win something.
My husband (a Californian who had never even been on a horse, let alone seen a real bull before that day) smiled at me a kind of question smile, I said go ahead, you’ll walk home no matter what condition you’re in.

He takes safety seriously but then he also also tells us he’s got a better chance dying on the highway than he does on the race track. There is probably a lot of truth to that in a race car he does have way better belts than you’ll find in any regular car. . Most of the time even if these guys roll numerous times they hop out without a scratch.
I grew up barrel racing and my brother rode bareback broncs and either of us could have been hurt, but I guess you can’t live your life never taking risks

When I was a teen we were at this lake that had a little island out in the middle of it. I could always swim, but wasn’t the strongest swimmer in the world. All the boys kept swimming out there and none of the girls would do it, so the boys of course kept running their mouths. Well, I was one of those(still am to a degree) doesn’t like to be told I can’t do something. My older brother warned me not to do it, which of course made me even more determined. I got about 3/4 of the way and got a cramp in my leg. I thought I was going to drown before my brother realized what had happened and swam over to me so I could grab onto him until the cramp went away. I made it and made it back and for good measure did it again.
My mother was terrified of the water, she never learned to swim, so she would have been having a fit if she had been there.
I had 4 older brothers so I did lots of things that stressed her out and not only did I put gray hairs in her head, but I still to this day have scars to prove it. lol
I got paid back though with my kids and I’m still paying my dues with my grandson. That boy is a big dare devil, I’m not sure my heart is going to hold out the older he gets. He gets mad at us every time we go to the rodeo because we don’t let him be a mutton buster. He doesn’t understand he isn’t old enough yet. He says, “I can ride those stinkin’ sheep.”

He’s a mess, but a good mess most days.
He’s learned how to catch a ball with a glove and how to swing a bat and hit the ball. His mommy has always been athletic, but I think he even has her beat. I was watching him play with his Daddy this afternoon and he kept telling him, “I’m going to hit you with the ball Daddy.” Then he’d hit the ball right back at him, he almost nailed him a few times. lol
He told his Papa the other day he was going to ride bulls, race cars, play baseball, basketball and shoot guns when he gets big. His Papa told him that sounded like he was going to have lots of irons in the fire. He said, “Papa what you talking about, I didn’t say nothin’ about fire, can you not hear good? Nanny say you old and can’t hear.” I laughed until I cried.

Nana say you old and can’t hear. 😂
Too funny.
When my youngest was about 2(?) she had a bad habit of hitting when she got mad. She always wanted to be like, and do everything her big sisters did so I thought I’d use some good old psychology.
PS the worst thing for her to hear was “Don’t act like a baby.”
I sat with her and said “Child of mine, when big girls get angry they use their words to solve problems, when babies get angry they hit because they don’t have words, so next time you’re angry what are you going to do?”
She sat pensively for a moment, then looked me dead in the eye and said “Be a baby.”
Took every ounce of my self control not to fall out of my chair laughing.

He hates to be called a baby. For the most part he doesn’t have temper tantrums, but he does have his moments when he’s sleepy and doesn’t want to go to sleep or if something he’s trying to do isn’t working. His mom tells him he’s acting like a baby and needs sister’s bottle. It makes him furious. lol
People always thinks he’s older than he is, because he talks so clear and has a large vocabulary. That isn’t always a good thing because he tells all your secrets. lol Plus, if he doesn’t like a person he tells them so.
He was waiting in line with me at the bathroom one night at the races and this lady kept telling him how cute he was. I could tell he didn’t like her talking to him and she had some strong perfume on the kind that gives you a headache. I kept wishing she would hush before he opened his mouth. He keeps ignoring her and keeps asking me, “Nanny what’s that smell.” I keep telling him I don’t know and try to distract him. But then she gets down on his level and ruffles his hair. Without a beat he says, “Nanny it’s that lady she stinks.” Then proceeds to tell her to leave him alone he don’t like her. I told him to tell her he was sorry and he’s not to say mean things and act like a polite little boy. He says, “I sorry you stink, please leave me alone now.”
I really would have liked a hole to crawl into.

My daughter was very articulate at a young age. My most embarrassing moment was when she was about 3 years old, in the grocery store. We were waiting in line at checkout, and out of the blue she says, “Remember the time daddy hit you, mommy?
Mind you, he slapped me one time more than a year before, and we were since separated. Where do these kids come up with this stuff?

When my daughter was little she told all of our secrets. If we had an argument the second she had someone to tell, she would tell. If I complained about all the dirty clothes people were led to believe I had mountains of dirty clothes. Anything she told was always exaggerated.
What I wouldn’t give though to turn back time and have my babies telling all of our secrets. lol

Sorry but his encounter with el Stink hair ruffler in the grocery store cracked me up.
I had two children who were very blunt when they were very young, my middle daughter did not like sharing me with anyone. Once when we were visiting my parents a friend of mine drove up from Chicago and we were having a good time, my daughter probably 3 at the time gave eye rolls but watched her mouth. Anyhow we were watching my daughters swim from the deck and my dad was with them in the water. The way the seating was I guess my daughter couldn’t see my friend, she walked up the stairs to the deck and let out a huge sigh, put her arms straight down at her sides, rolled her eyes, bent her head toward the sky and said dramatically “Oh! She is still here.
Thankfully she learned to not say such things. Though I think sometimes even as a young adult she still thinks them 🙂 .

My oldest son was about 3 when we were in a doctor’s office and he started loudly pointing out to us a lady had a really big butt. He was just pointing out the obvious and I know it was the biggest butt he had ever seen because I had never seen one quite so big, but thankfully he learned to be discreet and not let everyone know he just saw a big butt, but not before one day at a bank he pointed out to everyone with ears that a woman had huge boobies when he said to his Dad, “Daddy look at that lady she has big gigantic boobies, have you ever saw boobies that big?”

Hahaha. God Bless the Good People of Texas! Mornin WeeWeed. I do notice a lot of these pics coming out of TX have a sense of humor. Humor is something we are losing today in general in this country, but that’s all part of the grand plan (see loss of beauty articles above). Pray everyone is as best as can be, and that we all treat one another as Jesus treated us.

I think that Mrs. Trump might not be as in yer face smart azzed as you are czar. But, I could be wrong. Her husband sure is, and it’s one of the qualities I like best about him. Of course, I have a little touch of it myself, not nearly as much as when I was younger.

I haven’t had a little inappropriate in a long time…..oh, now that I reread that sentence…never mind.
I worked for Harry and Leona, the original New York hoteliers, and they had no sense of humor.

They must have some sense of humor,
After all, they were married to each other. 😉

Never said they weren’t devoted to each other, just that sense of humor thing.
Sidebar..think I’ve posted this before but about 11 years after I worked for them I was bavk in the Army and was sent to some pointless conference in Orlando as fate had it the conference was at the Helmsley’s hotel in Orlando. As I was checking in I was chatting with the desk clerk and mentioned I’d worked with the Helmsleys at the Towers.
Later that evening Czarina and I were having dinner and the hotel manager came yo the table. He mentioned the desk clerk had nentioned to him that I’d worked at the Towers so he called New York (probably to check if I were a ‘mystery shopper’) and they not only confirmed it but said that as lobg as we were there my eife would have daily passes to Disney and the hotel’s limo would deliver her and pick her up. Leona’s badness was totally a creation of the press.

😯 How nice. It appears, too, that you must have made a good impression when you worked there.

She was a businesswoman in the hotel business. Many of her employees robbed her blind, but that’s the hotel business. I caught three higher level ones with their fingers in the till but for whatever reason they were just warned and retained.
A bit after I left our night security was ‘compromised’ and both Helmsleys were badly injured in a late night assailt on them in their Towers penthouse. A few years later the lobby strongbox area was robbed resulting in what I was told was the most costly hotel robbery in the US up to that time. It’s strongly suggested that some employee(s) were involved but I don’t think anything was proved. Yeah, she remembered good employees.

DHS Blows $5 Mil on Polygraphs for “Unsuitable” Job Applicants Who Admit Criminal Acts, Drug Use

Let’s start out asking WHY these otherwise undesirables are being rescreened…PC reasons, perhaps? Remember my postings about how the DoD was being pressured by the WH to lower the squeaky clean criminal, financial, drug background and high military test score requirements for Intel and Counter Intel personnel due to the fields being too white? So many minority applicants had lower test scores, criminal records and single-digit credit ratings as they were victims of systemic discrimination. Hmmmmmm…might these CBP agents have that problem?
Polygraphs are an iffy thing anyway. CIA ALLEGEDLY blew a lot of South American ops after it poly’d Cubans they were going to use as cutouts only to discover a bunch ofbthem were double agents, beat the machine and compromised the operations. They don’t show ‘truth’ or ‘lies’ but subjectively determined ‘signs of deception’.
On real heavy-duty poly tests, the old lifestyle ones, you can expect to spend eight or more hours, minus snack and potty breaks, on the box. You can also expect there to be hidden cameras recording your micro expressions and a voice stress analyzer .in the mix. Sound like an exact science?
You can expect DHS to devolve into just another Federal morass of bureaucrats and stultifying inactivity where tax dollars go to die. The FBI and CIA have housed high level moles who’ve escaped dedicated ‘professional’ detection by internal CI teams…DHS is still a Federal agency so new it still has price tags attached so make your bets. So far it’s been controlled heavily by social engineers and I’m wondering if the polys weren’t an attempt to skirt the candidates’ normslly disqualifying backgrounds.

It appears to me all of government is now controlled by social engineers. As well as much of the business world and all of academia. Have I missed anything? Oh yeah, huge parts of the clergy, up to and including the pope.

It’s disconforting. Just as during the Cold War the Party had a political officer on each navsl cessel, in each air wing and army units, both open and undercover, to inform on noncompliant military backsliders the Civil Service is infected with the same PC doctrinal lice. You’re afraid to say anything as you can never be sure who’ll report you to the union or HRO pukes.

I’m happy as all get out, all of my grandfather’s brothers had girls except for one. We now have two girls from two sons but this makes three boys to all of the girls from my grandfather’s brothers (yes, they’re much older than I but like the ‘girl’ honorary) and they are tickled as it was up to me to save the family name. Now there are three potential breeders ready to increase the numbers.

Well, well, the weasel has waffled. I wonder who told Ryan he might be in trouble if he keeps spitting on President Trump and endorsing violent thugs violence.

“Speaker Ryan believes, as is obvious, these individuals are left-wing thugs, and those who are committing violence need to be arrested and prosecuted. Antifa is a scourge on our country,”

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, we pray for help for the people of Texas who are caught in the flooding.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

“The speaker does not agree with this decision,” said Doug Andres, a spokesman for Ryan. “Law enforcement officials have a special responsibility to respect the rights of everyone in the United States. We should not allow anyone to believe that responsibility is diminished by this pardon.”
“Law enforcement officials have a special responsibility to respect the rights of every [citizen of] the United States.”
Fixed for this lying weasel. The next paragraph lays it out. WE, THE PEOPLE have rights that must not be superseded by the demands of non-citizens, nor their defenders.
Our Bill of Rights does not extend to the entire world’s peoples, any of whom happen to step foot on our magic dirt.
Aliens here, who are here illegally, do have rights. Miranda rights.

The comments, sorted by Best (default), are, as usual for AT comments, great.
In a just world, so many people would be arrested for their heinous crimes, former presidential administrations, universities, courtrooms, congress, and even newsrooms would be decimated. (Probably way more. That just means every tenth person.)

Two beautiful Russian girls petted Tripod tonight. Gave him some lovins.
Kate and Marina. Marina’s from Moscow. Works for a good friend at his restaurant. Almost no accent whatsoever — I only noticed it when I told her Marina is a great name for someone in this town, and she told me where she comes from — and stunningly pretty. Kate is also from Russia. Thick accent, works for an Israeli from Peru (?!) whom I’ve known (and probably don’t, honestly) for years, and is a local business owner.
They both came and petted Tripod, who was sitting in the dark, in an alley, with me on the stairs, and talked with me for a while, while rubbing his face. Not at the same time, but like a half hour apart. They work for two different places, and I don’t even know if they know each other.
It just strikes me as a strange thing. Two different Russian girls, both young 20s, lovin on my cat, within a half hour, walking up to a shady-looking guy in a dark alley at night and chatting about my city and theirs. I should go buy a scratch lottery ticket.

In addition to my job as a dish/prep guy at restaurants, I’m about to have two more jobs.
One working in bossman’s Italian joint, with a kitchen that is hotter than the 9th circle.
The other building the joint adjoining my apartment, whose bones are 128 years old. An apartment/condo above, and two separate stores below, usage undetermined. I’ll be guy #3 on that project. The owner knows jack about building, especially using a structure this old, and the builder needs me, because I do actually know jack about building. So here we go. Should be an interesting fall and winter.
Sure was an interesting day.

I’m glad he’s okay, but I hope they save the piano, too.
The one in SH I play has been covered in giant snow drifts in years past, and some years, many of the keys don’t do anything at all. Someone’s maintaining it, obviously a master, because this year it’s in tune. Almost as in tune as this dude’s.
I’m magnetically attracted to pianos. You have to drag me away from one. And I sure do hate seeing one destroyed. Without even playing, the piano (any piano) is a work of civilizational art.
Lots of wooden pieces in the innards that absorb water and swell. Lots of metal pieces that rust and break. Lots of felt that is destroyed by water and freezing.
A piano (any piano) is worth way more than it’s price on E-Bay.

They may save the piano. I hope they do. It should be in a museum where it can still be played as a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.
