YT from one of my favorite channels…Out On the Ranch With Dr. Lee. Dr. Lee is a semi-retired veterinarian who lives on a good-sized ranch near San Antonio. He shows some of the flooding while he’s on his way to see his daughter Allie who goes to vet school in College Station. The Uncle Floyd he mentions near the beginning of the vid is his 103 year-old uncle, who is a darling.

    Day 4….Whaaaaa?

    • Morning Lucille! Much of my family attended college at A & M and I have quite a few relatives that live in College Station. Great place!

        • Thank you G & C. My College Station family is doing well. My daughter-in-law’s parents were rescued out of Houston yesterday by the national guard. Some family we know of got out of Houston before the hurricane made landfall, but we have family that we haven’t heard from at all, which is very concerning. Thank you for asking. 🙂

Dear God, Thank You for saving part of S&S’s family. We know “the rain falls on the good and bad alike”, so please care for her family that they have not heard from. It is hard at times of great distress to remember even the bad can be used for the good. Please give strength to Your servants to remember this. Amen

            • Thank you, Menagerie. Praying for your cousin, too. Finally got news that one of my uncles and aunt are safe. Their house is on higher ground. They can’t get out of their neighborhood, but no water in the house. My aunt is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, so I was really worried about her. Still waiting on news from a few others. Another uncle is staying with family in east Texas and hoping he can get back home, but that probably won’t be for a while.

Yes, he’s a real sweetheart. His YTs are really enjoyable.

He’s installed wildlife cameras around his property and gets two different kinds of deer, wild pigs, raccoons on video. He was concerned about his creek rising too high, but apparently it’s doing OK at the moment.

Not too long ago a developer bought the property next to his and cut down all the trees right up to his property line. He’d previously asked the owner to let him know if he planned to sell as he’d like to buy it; but the guy didn’t give him that courtesy. Of course, wildlife live all over the area and now are all coming to his property. He leaves feed out for the deer as he knows it’s difficult for them to find food with their grazing area being depleted.

Just a lovely man and a proud Texan.

About Jason Kessler, the “Unite the Right” organizer? It seems he was on the CNN payroll, according to internet sleuths. Can’t say he was at the time of the UtR rally, but that’s a huge hunk of PC to maneuver 180 degrees… My bet stays with Soros backing.

“Jason Kessler, the man who organized the ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville, was on the payroll of CNN. ”

“His claim of being “red pilled” is bogus.

He uses the media coverage of the Baltimore riots as his reason for switching sides. However, a look at his almost 5,000 tweet history reveals just one tweet, sent one month after declaring his support for Trump, in which he mildly criticises one left-wing outlet over their overage of the Baltimore riots. Hardly sounds like he was “red pilled” does it?”

We lucked out in Katrina as we have an active Coast Guard station in NOLA and they have lots of experience using their birds to rescue from boats and oil platforms offshore. They were out pulling oeople as soon as the rain ended, they were first and last on the scene, out there well before the Army and Air Force units could respond, they didn’t get the credit they deserved.
Those Army Blackhawks did a lot of rescue but the heavy lift choppers thst came in were real lifesavers as they airlifted huge sandbags that were used to plug the multiple levee break, were they not available the situation would have been far worse as there was nomother way to get to the breaks and regular sandbags would have been useless. Those monster sandbags that weighed thousands of pounds each are what stopped the levees from pouring even more water in, the sky was full of military aircraft for weeks.
Not to be forgotten, the Oregon (apologies if I’ve bobbled their state) NG sent Combat Controllers to keep the planes in the air from bumping into each other. They set ip and kept the aerial ballet flowing smoothly.
These same folks will be in Houston but expect the media to give them short shrift as to the press Harvey, like Kstrina, will be all about the heroic media and how they braved the terrors of wading in knee-deep water between coffee and finger sandwiches in their comfortable disaster accommodations.

      ROTFLMAO! LUV this!
But seriously folks, many years ago my uncle had a condo in the Virgin Islands when a hurricane came through. They tied bed sheets to the front saying “YOU LOOT, WE SHOOT”. His son and wife wanted to leave as soon as the airport re-opened. Luckily (and don’t ask how), they were given a sidearm for the drive to the airport, and someone to leave it with before flying out. Well, on the drive there a mob of locals attacked the car in front of them, broke the windows, tore the doors off, dragged out the occupants, and beat them unconscious. When the locals started coming after my cousin, he had the sidearm visible, and they backed off. They made it to the airport OK. If they did not have that, they probably would have been beaten to death or near death by the mob.
In the recent Boston riot, some of the “Alt-Left” rioters were laughing at their “supporters” because they, the rioters, were Anarchists. They were not there for any cause except mayhem, and the total dissolution of civil society. Their puppet – masters want rioting and anarchy, so they can destroy and re-build in their own image, with them having all the wealth and power. 5-6 years ago I said to a couple of friends “they want to regress to a feudal society”, and they looked at me strangely. They are agreeing with me now. Things are happening at a faster, and faster pace.

That has to be from Katrina, we had 4×8 signs like that sll over…they were so common that I just flat forgot to get a picture of one.
When the pols tried to get the police and NG to illegally confiscate firearms from those who didn’t evacuate in preparation for an illegal firced evacuation a Federal judge stepped in and ordered them to stop…though the active military wouldn’t, the Guard balked and what few city police we had left we too busy with real world stuff to really get into the confiscation.
We have to realize that the city pols were largely out of touch with what was going on as they we ensconced in a posh horel with full services and a gourmet kitchen, I do not remember ever seeing one down in the mud, blood and beer. BTW, their monied friends who’d hired armed private security never had their armed guards hassled about firearms.

This artist has no formal training, and has been practicing, and learning on his own since he was about 20 yo. He likes to paint landscapes, atmospherics, and light saying: “When I’m painting a landscape, I’m really painting light through atmosphere. Things like mist, air quality, sun, dust, and the prevailing light temperature all influence that sense of atmosphere…and I must be exact in translating my observation to canvas or that sense of atmosphere is lost.” “I see my role as an artist, to convey to the viewer what I see and perhaps what I feel, and in so doing, stir the heart and lift the soul of the viewer.” He looks to be in his 60’s, and has only been painting professionally since 2002 due to family and work responsibilities. In that short time he has been acclaimed as one of the great artists of the world today.
This gives me hope, but it is strange to find someone so similar in my views of wanting to paint classic beauty to lift the soul, not being able to start until late in life, no or minimal art school (I had High School, College, and 1 private art lesson, but no art school), and especially his view of atmospherics and light (hence my 10,000+ photos of just that). I am just hoping wearing a back brace will allow me to paint, and stupid things will stop happening so I can. I am very frustrated God gave me a great ability for art, but poor health, and circumstances. Some day I hope to post a beautiful painting here for you that I painted, signed agiG: “all glory is God’s”.

I think the trend to use “PT” for “President Trump” does him a disservice. He and WE earned that title and everytime we bypass using it, we protect those from hearing/seeing it from facing reality. It also has a feeling of shutting us down from claiming and publicly living the election “PT” does not even incude his name! Just a “T”. Saw on a comment section a liberal hater refer to him as “PT”. Someone asked who he was talking about.

“I will NEVER use the word president and Trump together. I use PT for the guy in the White House named Pussygrabbing Drumph!”

Did we use PB? PO? So, why the “PT” for PRESIDENT TRUMP?

How lazy have we become? We could type out more letters when we never used “president” with “Obama” but can’t even say “Trump?”

President Trump has brought back class and professionalism to the WH and the office and we go the way of “feet on the desk” attitude with giving him initials “PT” like he is one of the rappers PO had at the White House so frequently.

Plus, the #nevertrumpers and libs still cannot handle seeing President Trump in print.

Several years ago when first posting at CTH after reading there for a long time, in response to a related post I mentioned that my father’s side of the family were slave owners. Family lore says that 18 Africans were enslaved on the plantation in Arkansas (no “Gone With the Wind” big house, just a rambling one story), though I’ve never verified the number. Nearly all the many family males were in the Confederate army, all of whom came home injured and one in a box.

Not long after the war, my ancestors became the “genteel poor” still with “riding to hounds” airs even while working as sharecroppers on their own land which the bank took in compensation for unpaid loans. They never again owned the land which had been theirs for generations.

Do I believe that groveling in front of the BLM is required of me? Nope. Has nothing to do with me in 2017. The family lost their land and money, and maybe that’s right and just. But I don’t believe in false guilt. I’ve tried to live my life in a just and caring manner regardless of race, ethnicity or economics. That’s my obligation to America, one I take seriously and willingly.

One thing I do have to confess, if I were to meet the Rev. Lee, someone would have to restrain me from giving him a severe tongue lashing and a shove into the nearest body of water.

    Was the Houston Disaster Man-Made?

Someone (G-d&Country?) asked here earlier why people build/stay in flood prone areas.

How the Federal flood insurance program played a part in encouraging homeowners to settle or stay in flood-prone areas.

The report, titled “Higher Ground,” crunched federal data to show that just 2 percent of the program’s insured properties were receiving 40 percent of its damage claims. The most egregious example was a home that had flooded 16 times in 18 years, netting its owners more than $800,000 even though it was valued at less than $115,000.

That home was located in Houston, along with more than half of America’s worst “repetitive loss properties” identified in the report.

Hurricane Harvey is not the first costly flood to hit Houston since that 1998 report. In 2001, Tropical Storm Allison dumped more than two feet of rain on the city, causing about $5 billion in damages. Two relatively modest storms that hit Houston in 2015 and 2016—so small they didn’t get names—did so much property damage they made the list of the 15 highest-priced floods in U.S. history. But Houston’s low-lying flatlands keep booming, as sprawling subdivisions and parking lots pave over the wetlands and pastures that used to soak up the area’s excess rainfall, which is how Houston managed to host three “500-year floods” in the past three years.

If no insurance company would be willing to insure your place, maybe you ought not be living there.

The general principle would be not to build a million dollar mansion on a sandbar that could disappear with the next storm, but a fishing shack easily replaced with personal funds is a different story, unless the local building codes make it onerously expensive, in which case the building codes should be changed to accommodate that situation.

    • This may be a small thing but when we were looking to buy our house in Metro Detroit 20 years ago if a potential property required “flood insurance” I automatically crossed it off our “wish list”–partly because I was too cheap to pay any additional fees (& flood “insurance” is a joke, it’s not really “insurance” but a federally guaranteed Loan than has to be repaid, at least that’s how I understood it at the time) plus if FI is required doesn’t that automatically mean that the property is in some type of “flood plain”–why would anyone want to live in a flood plain??? At least the historic properties in New Orleans’ French Quarter were built to withstand the type of weather NO experiences relatively frequently…

  15. Hi Stellarites,

I’m dropping in to share a bit of what’s happening with Josiah & I (without playing catch-up in my reading)…

We have been blessed to get out of town for a bit to my parents’ Cottage in Northern Michigan in advance of the holiday weekend when other family members should join us…

Internet access is spotty & dependent on the kindness of neighbors allowing access to their Wi-Fi or using computers at the local library (from which I’m currently contacting you).

Here are some of the things keeping us occupied during our break from “regular” life & Josiah’s continued convalescence post-operatively: reading, puzzles, movies & popcorn, video games, worship music, conversations (including continuing to somewhat intensely “process” fallout from Josiah’s school situations & special ed battles), cooking, walks, basketball, hand-washing dishes, WWII documentaries, word searches, coloring/drawing, devotionals, scripture reading & mini-sermonette by J, star gazing (briefly on arrival, night sky’s obscured ever since), animal/bird watching, genealogy, library excursions, shopping, cleaning, & in general enjoying the slower pace Up North…

Here’s what we still hope to do: swimming (tomorrow it’s supposed to be 75 which may be the best day for taking the plunge in the frigid spring-fed waters of Otsego Lake), walks along the train tracks gathering rocks & shells, blackberry picking, playing some vintage games, enjoying some spectacular sunsets (hopefully), & visiting with various relatives when they begin arriving starting Thursday for the Holiday Weekend.

I’ll be heading back to Metro Detroit late Friday/early Saturday to join my husband for his band’s concert at The Ritz in Roseville, MI on Saturday. This gig came up rather suddenly & is cutting into our usual Holiday at the Cottage but it should be a blessing to participate in this Christian Night at what is usually a secular venue. In addition to The Lively Pelts (Michael’s current band) there are two other bands slated. Harken (Michael’s former band) is scheduled to open. It should be nice to see the guys & their wives (hopefully) again since they are finally back on stage with their new bass player. The headline band is Sweet Crystal, & this band is often hovering around #1 on Reverb Nation’s Detroit charts for Christian Rock Music. Michael got to meet the drummer from Sweet Crystal recently when the Pelts were playing “Jesus Jam” alongside (surprisingly to me) Kelly Willard (from way back in the day)…

Please keep this Christian concert in your prayers for the Lord to be glorified and for the participants, equipment, families, & vehicles to be protected. There seem to be A Lot of spiritual attacks that arise whenever The Lively Pelts are getting ready to play, more so than other bands Michael’s been in. Given that people have gotten saved in 4 of the last 5 concerts (that I know of) it would appear that there is some degree of positive impact for the Kingdom of God beyond just having fun “Rocking for Jesus”!

Hope each of you are doing well & will have opportunities for rest & refreshment over the upcoming holiday before the school year begins in earnest.

Thanks for so many of you keeping Josiah (& I) in your prayers! God Bless You All!!!

Hopefully here will be a link to Michael’s band’s Reverb Nation page (containing songs recorded before he joined the band, but most of which he also now plays)…Blessings!

(Sorry for any formatting issues with this post, I started writing it a couple of times & got kicked of the website by the computer so then wrote it first in an email before attempting to post it here)

Hurricane Harvey update – Today was much better on our side of town. Friends on the east and south sides got hit some more before this beast headed east. We got all of the water out of the house and pulled two rooms of carpet and pad. Two left. Looks like most everything came through in pretty good shape. only thing I really “lost” was some books I forgot to pick up off the floor. I’m still trying to figure out how I ended up with about 3″ of water on the left rear floorboard and nowhere else in the car. Blessed. Thank you all for your comments and concern. Pray for those who lost a whole heckuva lot more than I did. Help if you can. Thanks to all of you. Heading home tomorrow.

For those who are confused about where “home” is for Tex, he has a home in Houston (where he works), and a place in the country (where he lives and Mrs. Tex resides).

i am tired of talking about water, democrats, media, cnn, north korea, politics in general, anything said by an elected official.

I want to start a conversation about……ICE CREAM instead.

Well, tomorrow is our DOG DAY!

Concerning ice cream, now that I am seriously lactose intolerant, the only kind I can eat has to be lactose free. I love Lactaid cookies and cream and butter pecan. All of their ice creams are good.

        wife is lactose intolerant.
discovered a lot of puddings and stuff made with Almond Milk…and it is to absolutely die for good stuff.
our world revolves around lactaid milk, no sugar or corn syrup sweetners, and gluten free.
boredom is conquered by reading labels slowly in grocery store aisle while blocking others with my grocery cart and pretending to read contents on shelf displays….made several ladies actually put down their cell phones and move their cart back down the aisle to get around me….I also pretend I am really hard of hearing too…..sometimes I act like I am tallying up the prices on my cellphone, and then put something back of a shelf while shaking my head with a sad face….

        my wife shops for groceries
I use grocery shopping for harassing others.

        hey, beats boredom.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

And, Lord, we pray for help for the people of Texas who are caught in the flooding.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
