Quaker State Number 1 oil well as it was called many years ago. Not the original well, a well near by still pumps, (only with PADEP permission) , many years ago for $5 you could purchace a Mason jar of PA crude. The local historical society has hundred of picture of the Wild Caters who came in too work the oil fields. Local paper was called “The Darrick”
Oil was always known to man, laying around on the surface, Drake developed the drilling and pumping process.
Was there many years ago, it’s about two hours away, all two lane back roads…….
Thanks Stella…….

I sure didn’t sleep in. It turns out that my phone, which is my alarm clock, was still connected to my Bluetooth speaker at high volume.
At 6:30, I popped out of bed like toast. I didn’t need toast. I was toast. Got my B&G and mac & cheese w/ jalapenos on later.
I was riding around town at 6:45, and into work by 7:30. We served 4 people today for our Sunday brunch. That’s 85 dollars in sales. Fewer than 85, actually. Less money in sales than I have in my wallet right now. Pray for Chef’s sanity. Not even enough money to cover the gas and water and electric was made today, let alone labor and product. I just don’t get it.

Oh that’s so sad! He looks like such a good boy. I wonder if the evacuation shelters are saying they won’t take dogs unless crated, and this dog won’t go in one. Personally, I would just keep driving, no matter how far, to keep my dog with me.
LikeLiked by 1 person
the evacuation shelters are not taking in pets at all.
In Dallas, there are 300 available pet management slots to hold pets while the family is parked in a shelter…and they are managed by people that love and care for pets and animals….they have about half full as of now….
even if shelters took the dogs, there is no feeding and watering facility or poop and pee places…and no one has plastic bags and stuff to clean up….and there is a LOT of stress and turmoil there….not a good place for our little bitties…they need calm in the face of not being at their home…even if they are not with their family…..they can get visits…but frankly, they are better off not getting visits, as that tends to get them excited for a moment. Dogs do not actually have a sense of time…other than a clock sense of food or sleep or etc…but if you leave them without letting them know you are going…they will tend to think you are just in another place and will be glad when you come play with them whenever it happens….all assuming we are not talking LONG periods here.

(DALLAS, TX); August 25, 2017 — This afternoon, the SPCA of Texas, received a transfer of 123 un-owned cats from The Cattery Cat Shelter in Corpus Christi at the SPCA of Texas’ Animal Rescue Center, Empowered by PetSmart Charities Emergency Relief, in West Dallas. The SPCA of Texas is prepared to intake up to 300 animals affected by Hurricane Harvey if needed, and will evaluate capacity on a daily basis after that. This transfer frees up space in animal shelter facilities to make more room for animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey.

For those waiting for their morning coffee to kick into gear, here’s another remark from sanctuary city mayor sylvester turner (dumbass of the year)…

All for the sake of politics, the mayor would rather the city’s people and animals drown? Rule #1, NEVER listen to Democrat pukes.

From many of the comments, I assume the commenters are as much a dumbass as the mayor.

aus…I am WITH YOU on this subject.

Read how the lefties are defending Turner by saying they couldn’t evacuate because it would traffic jam the freeways. Well, yeah, if everyone evacuates at the last minute. And freeways are the only way out of town? Good grief!
Areas subject to flooding should always have strategically planned evacuation instructions set up neighborhood by neighborhood. But, of course, it never is. That would take real thinking.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I cannot defend the idiot mayor, now would I.
But….the only exit from the flooding would be North….and there are VERY limited highway lanes going North…and the North corridors and facilities along the way have been full from Corpus, San Antonio, Victoria, and all Gulf Coastal locations trying to escape….you have to do the math on gasoline when you get the traffic grid lock, and are in summer heat with a car full of stuff, kids, and pets….you cannot carry enough gasoline to get to somewhere that there WILL BE gas or food, as it is USED up by the first wave of evacuees….and there is no refill coming, and when power is down at the gas pumps, you cannot get gas anyway.
Houston alone had 2.7 MILLION people living there, and many do not own vehicles, and many live paycheck to paycheck, unable to afford to leave all of a sudden….this thing happened FAST, and without a lot of media warning…..we have seen what happens when the North Corridors fill with cars….and you have medical emergencies among car occupants as well.
This is NOT A SIMPLE right vs wrong deal…..just trying to clear up the visual picture….figure how much gas it takes to get all the way to Oklahoma, because all the hotels and churches will be full of evacuees before you get started good……been there with Katrina and before……
LikeLiked by 2 people
2.7 million people = Houston, you say.
Well, if 1 % die during next week’s flood related challenges; the death toll could easily reach 27,000. If a tenth of 1 %; 2700 deaths. If a tenth of a tenth of 1 %; 270 deaths. Time will tell; hope Houston residents beat the odds.
Turner referenced the evacuation havoc Hurricane Rita created in 2005. Twelve years to address the situation and staying put is their solution. Time will tell. Just say’n.

We have had freeway flooding like that shown in the photos here when we had heavy rain and the pumps either failed or couldn’t keep up. I once had to drive up a freeway on ramp to get out of rising waters. More lately, we had heavy rain and storm sewer backups. Same results. Doesn’t mean you have to leave town.
From what I’ve heard, flooding is concentrated in the section adjacent to the bayou on one side of Houston. Now that there is flooding, and half the freeways are under water, how can a million or more people be able to leave, especially since service stations are closed, and they can’t buy fuel?
Our friend Tex is riding the storm out near Houston. They got water in the house (about 2″), but the water is receding and they were able to save all of their important stuff.

Bonnie Raitt Lyrics
“Angel From Montgomery”
I am an old woman
Named after my mother
My old man is another
Child that’s grown old
If dreams were thunder
Lightning was desire
This old house woulda burnt down
A long time ago
Make me an angel
That flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin’
Is just a hard way to go
When I was a young girl
Well I had me a cowboy
It weren’t much to look at
Just a free ramblin’ man
But that was a long time
And no matter how I tried
Those years just flow by
Like a broken down dam
Make me an angel
That flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin’
Is just a hard way to go
There’s flies in the kitchen
I can hear them there buzzin’
And I ain’t done nothin’ since I woke up today
But how the hell can a person
Go to work in the mornin’
And come home in the evenin’
And have nothin’ to say
Make me an angel
That flies from Montgomery
Make me a poster
Of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing
That I can hold on to
To believe in this livin’
Is just a hard way to go

Expert: Harvey may continue to pound Houston area for days

I am not being critical of anyone, but I have to ask something I don’t understand. In New England we have the Atlantic Ocean, get flooded, and houses fall into the ocean etc. If there is an excessive amount of snow in the winter it floods all over in the spring. I don’t, nor would I ever, live in a flood zone. It is one of the things I check 1st along with price, and crime. I won’t even live near a flat, wet area even if it is not a flood zone. Dear hubby’s family is from Mississippi, and they keep on getting flooded, stay there, rebuild, repeat. If for some reason you think you cannot get a job anywhere but Houston, I would have a plan, a bug-out bag type set up, and evacuate FIRST. If it was because of family, I’d tell them they are crazy, and move. I was happy my dad did not take a job in NOLA, because I told him I would not go, but try to stay with relatives, or become emancipated, and stay by myself. Unless you are elderly, sick, and dependent on relatives that insist on staying, I don’t understand living in a place that is at or below sea level, and gets hurricanes/flooded every year. Can someone please explain staying, especially if you refuse to plan ahead, and prepare.

Dunno exactly. But I suspect a sense of personal responsibility and survival instinct are either diminished or missing.
Many of those who are in deep bandini this evening are those who were “waiting for someone to tell them what to do.” The inability and/or unwillingness to think for oneself is in short supply these days and is illustrated every time there is a massive event of any kind.
Recent example: the eclipse and the travelers to Oregon who had to be told 1) not to set up their camping equipment on private property; 2) that the small towns in central Oregon would NOT have capacity to take care of their every need in an emergency – iow, hospitals with emergency rooms might 75 miles away; 3) to buy water; 4) etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
Being self-sufficient and dealing with reality just isn’t common any more. Anywhere.

Yes. Long-term gov’t handouts are not helpful, but decrease self-sufficiency. Generational welfare, along with the sexual revolution, and LBJ’s “great” society, are some of the worst things to happen to this country. Strangely, even smart, conservative, “in-the-know” people never think anything bad will happen to them. Because there is no draft, and the horrors of war only affects those directly involved, many in the past 50 years have never really had anything awful to deal with. Someone said it’s a good thing for the gov’t to use ebt cards, because if there were bread lines like in the depression it would be astounding. I feel like the gov’t has been lulling the populace into a false sense of security, sort of like fattening the sacrificial lamb. One last thing: It is my belief a lot of what is happening “culturally” today is because many do not want to sacrifice, so they become cowards. Many have not had to sacrifice as was routine to do in the past – see long term gov’t hand-outs above. I just barely remember a quote from one of the founding fathers maybe, saying once people realize they can vote themselves benefits, it’s over. Maybe it’s the countries version of “shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations”.
Thanks for your thoughtful response. It is always good to read your posts. I pray you are doing well 🙂

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, we pray for all the people affected by the storm in Texas.
