No guilty verdicts in 2014 Bundy Ranch standoff trial

Arizona Republic August 22, 2017:

A federal jury in Las Vegas did not return any guilty verdicts Tuesday against four men accused of taking up arms against federal agents during the Bundy Ranch standoff in 2014.

Jurors dealt government prosecutors a stinging defeat in the case when, after four days of deliberations, they returned not-guilty verdicts on the most serious charges and deadlocked on a handful of others.

Richard Lovelien of Oklahoma and Steven Stewart of Idaho were acquitted on all counts and walked out of court Tuesday night free after spending more than a year in prison.

“Both Ricky and I were teary-eyed,” Las Vegas defense lawyer Shawn Perez said of the verdict, “I was shaking … I have gotten not-guilty verdicts before, but this was really special to me.”

Two other defendants, Eric Parker and O. Scott Drexler, both of Idaho, were acquitted on the most serious charges of conspiracy and extortion, but jurors failed to reach unanimous verdicts on weapons and assault charges.

Both men could be allowed to go free after a detention hearing scheduled Wednesday morning. The court ordered both defendants to be released to a halfway house until Wednesday’s hearing.

THE HILL

The standoff occurred when federal authorities obtained a court order to seize Bundy’s cattle in 2014 for decades of unpaid grazing fees that totaled more than $1 million. Instead, hundreds of supporters converged from around the country to begin an armed standoff with authorities, which resulted in the government backing down.

In 2015, the federal government charged 19 people, including the four defendants cleared Tuesday, for their roles in the standoff. The next trial, according to the Republic, will include Bundy and his two sons.

Federal prosecutors told the Republic they were “disappointed” by the jury’s decision in the case.

Hip Hip Hooray for Justice! Thank you to the jurors for seeing through this farce of a trial. Thank You Lord!

I know of many others, TRULY despicable people, who owed the gubt a million or more and had a free pass to visit the WH any time they wanted when the Kenyan Impostor was OCCUPYING It. No one went after any of them with the full force of the law.

Its time to sue Comey and the people who took his orders to kill LaVoy due Hillary illegal deals with Russia. (that is actually the real conspiracy with Russia, not Trump).
This whole mess was about Hillary and her selling off of our Uranium rights on Public Lands to Russia.

One victory for the American people. More good news, but as mom said above, it does not negate what these people had to go through. Nor does it undo the harm to all the families who couldn’t stand against the government as the Bundys and their friends did.

I’m doing this re-blog currently as a placeholder, being Up North with limited computer access at the local public library. But there are many thoughts to share regarding the Bundy happenings.

The Not Guilty verdicts are a huge blessing & relief. Chalk one up for freedom & the slightest diminishment of governmental tyranny!

As I posted on today’s thread: August 26, 2017 at 10:21 am I’m glad they were found not guilty. They have, from reports I have read and pictures shown, been mis-treated in prison. Whatever inconvenience they caused, they have paid enough for. No one charged occupy or blm rioters and destroyers, and no one is charging antifa today. (Some individuals are arrested, but not the organizations or those who fund them.) A country can not have laws for some, and not for others – that’s why Lady Justice wears a blindfold.
If it’s OK Stella, may I say I read many reports on the Bundy and LaVoy situations on http://www.dcclothesline.com. They also did a lot of reporting on the 5 year old girl (I believe is down’s syndrome child) sexually assaulted and raped by younger muslim “refugees” in Idaho. (many brought in by the Pakistani muslim billionaire owner of Chobani yougurt. PLEASE do NOT buy Chobani yougurt! ). The local politicians and feds screwed this family over big time. It’s sick what they did.
A few of DC’s reports are odd to me, and I ignore, but the majority are informative. They have done some great reporting. They also have had reports from a year or two ago, that once Trump was in office, we are now seeing to be true. He is having financial problems, so if anyone wants to research backdated reports from him, you may want to copy and save them to your computer now.

Not criticizing. But, what is DC and who is having financial problems? 🙂

Sorry. Had not had lunch yet 🙂 DC is DCClothesline the website that got the info from AZ central. The man who runs DCClothesline is having financial problems because of something google did (I do not understand the techie explanation) where he used to have over 100,00 visits a day and now only has 10,000 visits a day. Also Chobani built the worlds largest yogurt factory in Idaho. That (tax) money is why the gov’t sided with the perpetrators who raped the 5 yr old.. You are right I should not try to rush comments in 🙂

G & C, re: charging antifa – DOJ applied for a blanket search warrant of the antifa recruiting web site for the Charlottesville operation. We strenuously objected – this is what Obama’s DOJ did to us and then the Tea Party – so DOJ narrowed the search warrant and it was approved. Patience.

Great news on the Bundy folks. We needed a victory, especially on this one. The Bundy folks were one of the greatest travesties.

Thanks for the info. I did not know what DOJ was doing. You obviously know more about what DOJ is doing than me 🙂 “this is what Obama’s DOJ did to us” Please forgive, but who is us?
I had started reading the laws on inciting a riot, rioting, even RICO, and transporting minors across state lines. I’m thinking of “follow the money that pays for the violence”, as well as the police actually arresting rioters when they see them hitting someone or destroying property. I thought the DOJ was doing nothing. I am not sure what a blanket warrant is, but I don’t agree with warrantless searches or just plain outright fishing expeditions.
It’s hard to have patience when for over a year (years actually if talking about occupy wall st) rioters have beaten, destroyed, and severely inconvenienced innocent non-violent people. We just had a violent group shut down free speech in Boston, and the media & politicians lied about it. Now there are rioters in Berkley. The longer that goes on, the more normal, accepted, and “justified” it will become in the minds of those that don’t think rationally (a growing % of population I fear).

“they returned not-guilty verdicts on the most serious charges and deadlocked on a handful of others” Does that mean those defendants must stay in prison until re-tried again? How many times can you be left in prison, and re-tried if the verdicts keep coming out dead-locked? Seriously isn’t this like double (or triple jeopardy if tried again)?

Government to Retry Bundy Ranch Defendants a Third Time!
Posted on August 25, 2017 by Tim Brown
        AZ Central reports:
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Las Vegas confirmed Wednesday it will go back to court for the third time in an attempt to convict two men accused of taking up arms against federal agents.
Less than 24 hours earlier, a jury had acquitted two standoff defendants and dismissed the most serious charges against two others. Now federal prosecutors say they will retry the men next month on outstanding weapons and assault charges.
The move pushes back the trials for 11 other defendants in the 2014 Bundy Ranch standoff, including Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his sons Ammon and Ryan Bundy, who have spent 18 months in prison while awaiting their court date.
        —————
…There are still 11 defendants who remain incarcerated for the past 19 months without a trial and the court’s actions continue to infringe on the rights of these men.
“Those guys want their day in court,” said Marchese.
As for at least one of the defendants awaiting trial, Pete Santilli’s attorney, Chris Rasmussen has filed a motion for pre-trial release.

This is a lengthy article describing what happened at the trial. If these people were tried fairly, I’m wondering if the outcomes would have been better for the 2 deadlocked.
