Interesting puece by the Cato Institute, take a look and see how your individual state rates in its citizen’s freedom. Which of your freely elected state governments interferes the most/least with your ability to be a citizen. Y’al in California and New York might just go out for a cup of coffee.

I’ll have to see how they are ranked, but NH is #1 – Yeah! I like NH. Now if all the invading political locusts would leave, and we can stop college id’s being used as voter id’s. I’m trying to convince my friend to move here instead of Wyoming when her dear hubby retires.(Nothing against Wyoming) We need more good people here if anyone is planning to move :-). It’s really nice here 🙂

Use a VA hospital? Wanna see how it rated at the end of 2016? Note Albuquerque is now a number one rated facility….whatta ya gotta do other than stop killing your clients to get there?

My bad….S/B Phoenix but they are now a number one to so the same question holds. Note the NOLA, even though attached to the LSU med center (both VA and LSU are brand new) has risen to number three. No word on the number of vets out of the ~300K dead referenced in the VA IG’s 2015 report each hospital’s responsible for.

They must have done something; because it shows slight improvement from prior year. 😉
My mileage seems to be different for the med centers visited the last 14 months. Lost my new to me PMC (one visit); because of a shake-up and his promotion. Such a facility; such a day. 😉

I’d feel more comfortable if we had a full accounting of exactly what the rating criteria are and how each hospital scored in each area…no fuzzy stuff either.
Big posted reason the NOLA VA partnered with LSU instead of an internationally recognized private hospital that offered the VA the land to build on for free was that LSU could send its grads over to practice on vets. Now I’m hearing that some schools at LSU aren’t sending their learn-while-you-earn students to the VA.
In any event I choose my mega hospital…if it’s good enough for Tom Benson it’s good nuff fer me.

It was before Katrina and I’d filed for a VA disability for hearing loss. I was sent to the old VA facility in NOLA for an evaluation as the VA doesn’t trust civilian medical people who live by their trade. When I got there the audiologist apologized as their audiology suites were down and they didn’t have an idea as to when they’d be fixed. She ended up using one of those dinky little portable ones and the only place available to administer it was at a small table in the kitchen’s doorway where they were preparing the lunch carts to be delivered to the patients.
I got my test, needless to say it showed a loss…all I could think of was ‘I wonder where they do surgery in a pinch?’.

Sort of related to this. Please keep as many good books as you can. Go to your library sale days when they sell old books. 20 years ago I took some classes at Harvard. I went into the underground stacks under Harvard square. There were 10’s of thousands of books on shelves molding in the dark! I could not stay that long because of the mold. Check how your libraries, schools, and colleges store and dispose of books. Make sure they are not destroyed by mold, recycled as paper, or have the spines cut off and pages recycled to be used by decorators. If knowledge exists only on the internet, it only takes a few keystrokes by an invisible bureaucrat to delete it – so much easier and stealthy than burning books. They can then re-write any history they want. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR DECADES. Everyone can help with saving knowledge and history 🙂

I have many old books. Some really old, and text books (history) from the 1960’s. I even have a chemistry book from 1810.

That’s great! My dad has a lot of history books, and says reading history books over the 90 years of his life he sees how history is re-written in the newer books – even “serious” history books. My friend’s kids love history. I’m leaving them all my books.

I have a lot of old books and papers. I have found the ones from around the beginning of the 20th century made from wood pulp seem to have the most problems.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Interesting. I wonder if that is because the PH is different. I thought maybe the older papers of that time are not as acidic, so they don’t turn color. Maybe not using acid did not change the PH, and kill mold spores? Or maybe they were just not stored in a dry environment in their 100 year life, such as those books at Harvard.

I have books from the latter half of the 1600’s that don’t have half the problems as 20th century books.

Paper was made from cloth. You may recall having expensive typing paper or “thesis” paper that was cotton rag. It was rated to last a couple of hundred years. Most books from the year 1500 on up were made from similar “cloth” paper rated at 800 or 1000 years.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’ve brought this up before; BTW the whole theory that paper was expensive and that is why there aren’t more books from before the late 1800’s is bunk. Toilet paper was invented and magically, more books and papers than the family bible survived in households after that.

Really! That is great to know I will try it with some of my dad’s books. Thank you.

I’ve had to do more one treatment before. Make sure the book is dry before adding the soda. If the book can handle it, shake it so the soda gets between the pages.
If the mold isn’t killed, it will come back and you have to do it again.
Keep it away from other moldy books afterwards.

NASA has a lot to offer on the internet, as do other sites:
NASA is geared up to cover the eclipse on its TV channel and online, starting at 12 pm EDT. Viewers around the world will be provided a wealth of images captured before, during, and after the eclipse by 11 spacecraft, at least three NASA aircraft, more than 50 high-altitude balloons, and the astronauts aboard the International Space Station – each offering a unique vantage point for the celestial event.
CNN has set up coast-to-coast coverage with 360-degree live streaming.
The Weather Channel is airing Eclipse Day coverage starting at 3 a.m. PT, with anchors in Madras as well as Carbondale, Ill., and other locations along the path of totality.
Science Channel will be streaming live coverage of totality on TV and Facebook Live, and is planning a prime-time recap.
PBS will air a “Nova” special titled “Eclipse Over America” to recap the event during Monday’s prime time.

I’ve met four people today already who had no idea that there was an eclipse today, or even forthcoming at all. One lady at a convenience store, from India, didn’t even know what an eclipse was. She knows English, too. Somewhat. Two were from Mexico. Both groups listen to media (on their phones) from their nations, and apparently don’t pay any attention to our media. Both were actually listening to radio dramas, phone on the counter for the Indian, and phone in pocket for the Mexican.
The fourth was a wonderful black lady who works for my landlady. And it’s the same thing. She also pays no attention to our MSM or news at all. And she’s such a happy person.
I knew about the eclipse two months ago, and I pay no attention (so I say, but that’s not really true…) to our MSM. No TV or radio for many years. I don’t need them. Drudge watches them for me. So does every conservative blog.
But it’s funny how many people didn’t know anything about this, so far, in my travels.

Sadie, Mason on Conner will be, although we aren’t letting Conner outside. I think Baby Wyatt’s mom might bring him and his older brother Grey, but she has a longer drive and might not, as we are told there will be so much traffic today on the interstates from people leaving after the totality. So, at least three.
My hope is that between the two or three of us adults we can very carefully, hand on them, keep the kids from looking up, just put the box on their heads. Of course, with his phobias and stuff, Mason may refuse to put his head in the box. But I think Miss Sadie will be so excited.
Also I am hoping we will all get to see the little eclipse shadows all over the ground filtering through the trees like I’ve seen on the internet. That’s the main reason I asked them if they wanted to come up here.

Quote here is from your RCIA leader and Director of Adult Faith Formation.
One quite wonderful Jewish tradition is to recite 100 blessings a day–reminding the one who prays of the pervasiveness of G-d and calling him to thanksgiving. A couple of traditional prayers to consider saying at the eclipse:
Blessed are You, LORD our G-d, King of the universe, through Whose word everything comes into being.
Behold, He who formed the mountains, And created the wind, And has told man what His wish is, Who turns daybreak into blackness, And treads upon the high places of the earth— His name is the LORD, the God of Hosts. (Amos 4:13)

Thank you. What a great idea to specifically pray during this wonderful event of God’s creation.
This post and the prior post about people not knowing about the eclipse because of not listening to msm makes me bring up something I recently started doing that really helps. I really like the song “fly me to the moon” sung by Astrud Gilberto (forgive if incorrect spelling). I also like a couple of the prayers to the Holy Spirit. I rearranged the words to the prayers, and put it to the tune of the song. I find myself going throughout the day humming to myself, silently saying the prayers. It is very calming. Jesus said to pray constantly, but I never knew how anyone could do that. Now I know. It may be something that may be helpful to others. It certainly improved my mood, and made me more grateful.

Craig Shirley, a presidential historian, said he doesn’t think the left-wing riots are anything new. It’s just like the 60s, he says, only then it was the KGB funding some of the anti-war protests. Now it’s George Soros and his Open Society Foundations and the Ford Foundation. We just don’t hear about it.
“The media is utterly and completely corrupt,” he said. “There’s no room for another point of view. There’s only one point of view.”
The protesters, explained Shirley, aren’t anarchists — the term Antifa likes to use. They’re Jacobins whose goal is the destruction of everything: family, faith and law and order, so that everybody can start from scratch with nothing — everybody except them. They will control the resources and enjoy the best of everything, as the Bolsheviks did in Russia, and the communists did in Cuba after the revolution.

Problem I see for the Left is the same mistake they made in the 60s/70s…threatening the middle-class. It’s all a street theater distraction until the demonstrators get too close to the working class and start to poke their comfort zones, that’s when what was a silent gets all uppity and reacts.

Not true.
I know you didn’t mean it in that way, generally, but I cannot let that pass. The people who voted for him twice may still he’s a wonderful man. I don’t know about that.
The fact that they voted for him once makes me question their powers of observation. And that includes my professional, masters-degree-level niece who was SO EXCITED to help vote in the first black man. She still thinks that. Hasn’t figured out that he is gray. Not black at all.
The level of dumb in this country is infuriating and dangerous.

You’re correct I didn’t mean in general or a majority, I will say it sickened me when Obama and Michelle did some kind of event and their minions were chanting 4 more years. I simply was drawing a parallel from non thinking Obama supporters to people who would watch a solar eclipse without any eye protection.
Far too many people still think he is wonderful, there are people whose minds are blind, their reason and logic centers have atrophied.

That’s like the punchline to the earlier joke/question at the beginning of the video: “Then who’s going to play the drums?”
Phil sings and plays drums at the same time.

I no longer wear perfume, and I am not a celebrity follower or royalty stalker. But even I can all into a short daydream about becoming a princess and your prince having a special fragrance commissioned for you on your wedding day, to complement the fragrance of your bouquet. Fun read.

Here is a picture in honor of the eclipse, and the rebuilding of our great country by the many selfless patriots that toil day in and day out, no matter what the msm tries to tell us.
Now on to that bacon ZM brought !!!!!!

We are in for totality at 2:32, here in N.E. Georgia. The sky is clear, I have my special glasses, and I’m ready with an icy cold drink! It will only be total here for about a minute and a half, but I’ve got my eyes ready to look for the “Shadow Snakes” other phenomenon. Y’all stay safe!

There will be a live performance by Bonnie Tyler on the Weather Channel at the time of totality. She is on a cruise ship in the Atlantic. They say (Weather Channel) that they will have the broadcast of the eclipse that is the farthest east.

She has a voice, didn’t need the fancy-schmancy enhancement technology so many of today’s singers use.

In Clarkesville, GA, (about 5 miles from me) They are having “Total Eclipse of the Park”! It’s a big do in Pitt’s Park. They’ll have live music, games for kids, good food! I’m happy at home. I hear there will be a huge crowd! I don’t like crowds.

Schools are going to gave assemblies for the kids but for the majority of the folks here it’s just another work day.

Live reporting from the New Orleans innercity shows that a surprising number of residents believe the sun’s being swallowed by Trump and Hillary’s reaching down his gullet to retrieve it and return it to the sky. Meanwhile Weather Channel confirms that the passasge of the eclipse is just long enough to microwave a Lean Cuisine.

Received this in my inbox this a.m. You will note he does not name the BLM or Antifa anywhere. I hope and pray he gets an earful at his townhall this evening. He certainly gets one in this comment section. Remember when he told his pals on a confidential conference call which was leaked that he would never support President Trump? Well, that’s one thing he’s doing a bang-up job on–backstabbing.

While we were busy ogling the eclipse the Spanish police found the driver of the van used in the Barcelona attack and turned out his lights. He was wearing a fake suicide vest when they popped him just like the ones they found with the suspects in the Cambrils shootout.

I wish they could “pop” them earlier. Like before they attack.
So do many, many friends and relatives of infidel victims.

Spanish authorities had a radicam imam on their radar and believe he may have overseen the cell that carried out the attacks. They raided his house over the weekend looking for DNA samples to see if he was one of the two grease spots scraped off of the walls at the Alcanar bomb factory that blew up. We can only hope.

Remember the Steubenville Rape Trial back in 2012? Anonymous intervened in that, even after Anonymous was told we had this one. Many, many people suffered who should not have.
“Richmond is the father of Ma’lik Richmond, a former Steubenville Big Red football player who was found delinquent in a 2012 rape case.”
““There’s absolutely no reason to believe there’s any connection whatsoever between Ma’lik Richmond and the actions of his father today,” (Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane) Hanlin said.”

Last month the SJWs threw fits b/c Y-Town State had allowed Malik on the football team. YSU was NCAA Champion something or other under Jim Tressel, before Tressel went to Ohio State and disgraced himself. Tressel is now YSU president and still widely loved here.
Anyway, Malik was forced to sit the bench this year b/c of the SJWs, denying Malik a full year of scouting opportunities, etc., and a chance to start over. But there is no connection whatsoever.
Did you know gerbils also eat their young?
Thanks for the eclipse vids, Stella. Just another day in paradise here.
Be Blessed.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
