Today, before going in to work, I ate, showered, and rode over to that outdoor piano, parked my bike and played for about a half hour. People going in and out of the antique mall where it’s ensconced. I just tuned all the people out and played, oblivious to who was watching.

I turned around at one point and there’s a lady videoing me with her phone. She asked, “Do you mind if I put this on my Facebook?” I said, after a moment’s hesitation, “You know what? Go ahead. My name’s Jamie.” She asked, “What’s your last name?” I said, “Hey, don’t push it. We don’t go there.”

    😀

Life is strange. And I found a new habit that makes people smile.

It is what is most important in life.

Coming from someone who was depressed, severely, most of his life: actively trying to bring joy to people sets up a feedback loop. I try to impart this to people I meet who are really depressed. Stop thinking about yourself. Bring joy to people! Be Pooh instead of Eeyore.

Most I know work in the service industries, when they’re not living their normal-but-f’ed-up lives outside of work. You’re on stage in these jobs. You pretend you’re happy, even when you’re not, for the business. Surly waitstaff don’t last long. Happy waitstaff, who bring joy, last forever, and get the best tips.

And this applies outside of work, too. Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t Worry, Be Happy, is Gospel. And trading in joy is like Reaganomics: A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats. So make people happy, and you will be made happy.

Or do what OWS, BLM, Antifa, and the MSM do.

Is it any wonder they’re all so angry?

                  • LOL I hate to imagine seeing Anthony and Flea with walkers, trying to decide whether to hold on to the walker or the mic stand. They were never real pretty in the first place, but that would not be pretty at all. It’s why I wish the Stones had called it quits 20 years earlier than they did.

I’m only half-kidding, because I love those guys. I hope they do like Robert Plant, Willie Nelson, and Neil Young — and yes, Mick Jaggar — perform and create until they are unable to do so. Those are heroes and they do what brings people joy. Even when performing on Hoverounds at casinos.

Sometimes when Josiah & I go to U of M’s Hospital there will be a young person (student?) playing on a piano in an alcove adjacent to the pediatric surgery waiting area. The acoustics there allow the sweet sounds to flow into a nearby hallway & nearly to the eatery & the elevators…it’s always such a treat & is so much more enjoyable played live (with feeling) than even some of the recorded sounds piped in when no pianist is present. I’ve walked up to thank a musician in between pieces & they always seem startled that anyone else might be listending when they have been inhabiting that zone just below the threshold to Heaven!

Thank you for all that you do to make this world a more beautiful place! Blessings

Vid “liner” notes: © Written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael (music) and Stuart Gorrell (lyrics) ©
(The photo has very little to do with the song. Look for “To Have And Have Not.”)
Gorrell wrote the lyrics for Hoagy’s sister, Georgia Carmichael. However, the lyrics of the song are ambiguous enough to refer either to the state or to a woman named “Georgia.”

Carmichael’s 1965 autobiography–“Sometimes I Wonder”–records the origin: a friend, saxophonist and bandleader Frankie Trumbauer, suggested: “Why don’t you write a song called ‘Georgia’? Nobody lost much writing about the South.” Thus, the song is universally believed to have been written about the state.

Lately I’ve been thinking, “Why be afraid?” I am above reproach, and I know it, so anonymity is overrated. No, I won’t do FB or Tweeter, but I don’t care if you all see my face. You’re just as likely to see it in a chair next to a campfire someday, laughing about something you said. And I’m just as likely to go to your funeral with others here.

Going to a seasonal camper meetup at Covert Park a couple of weeks ago (the place I was almost conceived at) reminded me of this. So many good people. So many we remember, who left this place, this world, and us.

It is good to see your face, Lovely.

So I’m Jamie. Now you know. I like “Wooly”, though.

It’s better than “Taqiyyologist” or “-otomist”. That was named after something I hate.

Why would I come up with a nic for ten years, named after something I hate? I actually hate that nic, and wish Nyet would erase it from breakfast. And not that I don’t want any intrepid investigators or AI to connect Wooly with Taqiyy, either. I’m alt right. I don’t care. I said what I said. I wasn’t spreading joy when I was posting as those names, online or off.

Mornin’, Nyet? I’m up REAL early in PDT zone and am starved. Some sweetheart in the county offices called at 3:26 A.M.!!! looking for one of their employees who used to have my land line number over a year and a half ago. Nothing like keeping your employer properly advised of contact numbers!! And this ain’t da first time I’ve received calls for this gal.

Then I couldn’t go back to sleep. So, what did I do? I got online and found her first name at the county office by tapping into their search engine the phone number recorded on my phone. Apparently she’s in Accounting. Mmmm, wonder if she absconded with the petty cash.

Anyhow, I’ll take the full plate of eggs, bacon, pancakes (but could I have melted butter in a little pitcher to drizzle over them) and some nice maple syrup? And a pot of licorice tea? Thanks everso!

A maddening addendum: After posting this re the phone calls, I decided to go back to bed and was able to fall asleep again only to be reawakened at 7:45 AM with a desperate-sounding man saying he got my phone number from blah-blah sources and that he was looking for this female and he had some guy in his backseat who needed to talk to her! At that point I should have asked if the guy was young and good looking and given them my address. But no, instead I let him know my number does not belong to the female he was hunting down.

Once again, I laid down only to be stirred from sleep (along with my kitty Mr. G who was sleeping on my chest!) at 10:24 AM by THE POLICE!! I’m sorry but I yelled at the policeman. After apparently convincing him I am NOT the woman they are all looking for, he apologized for bothering me. It’s funny now but, man, I was PO’d. BTW, the guy who said he was a policeman had an “unknown name” and no phone number registering on my call director.

Maybe she’s a wanted fugitive running from her Russian mole husband…I mean, who goes off and doesn’t let the dozens of people who have called her in the last year and a half know her new phone number…unless she really is a fugitive absconding with the county’s bank account.

And NOW, for pity’s sake…the news comes over that Bannon has “resigned”…holy plucky Pete, what’s going on!!!!

I started getting calls on my cell phone in the middle of the night. He would leave a message and I figured it was drugs he was after. But, after this happened 4 or 5 times, he called rather desperate because he had left his car keys at home or something and needed this friend to come get him to take him to work. I never answered the phone, but finally figured something was up. So, that day I called him back. Bless his heart, he thanked me for letting him know and apologized profusely and told me he had gotten a new cell phone and must have put his best friend’s number in incorrectly.

This has been a UN issue for decades. There’s a rather large and divisive segment of the UN that wants open borders, an end to nationalism, that everyone should be free to travel, live and work anywhere they wish without that nasty little passport or this ain’t your country’ problem. Proponents are mostly 3rd world reps, gee no surprise there.

Bannon did hand in his resignation 2 weeks ago it seems that President Trump did not accept his resignation until Bannon went way off script about NK. Interesting dynamic. The whole Bannon dismissing a military strike on NK was a very odd turn of words.

True but we can’t bait NK into an arms race to bankrupt it. China could bankrupt the Nutter Dictator in a heartbeat. Plus Francis is no Pope John Paul ll and Theresa May is no Margaret Thatcher.

Not sure how we take the Nukes out of the equation anyway other than what President Trump did by persuading China to say if the little dictator fires the first shot then his fate is sealed.

The enemies of America and of the World must be taken down.
We may have waited too long, but then again, I see hope in the faces of true Americans, true Patriots in all countries waking up to the truth. The truth that without our rights as human beings, what is there?
We cannot fall into the lefts vision of separate groups, labels, sexes, religions, races, colors, or ethnic groups.
We all have the the rights given to us by God, not man, to be free. To live our lives the way we choose. We wish harm to no one! We encourage all to be the best they can be! To rise above cubby holes they have divided us into.
Stand up, stand up for your families, your friends, your fellow Americans.
President Trump has espoused these values for his entire life! I have listened to him, followed him, and agreed with him for over 20 years!
For the love of God, do not let us fall to the evil proponents of Globalism! We will be fodder for the canons and slaves to their whims. We will never again breathe free air!
They are trying to erase our past to control our future. The past is the only way we can see what evil people have tried to do to us!
The “game” has been played on both sides for generations. The final move is being made now! Will you live free? Will you submit? Will you sell your soul to the people who will kill you to gain their power?
    Choose wisely!

Matt Drudge can go suck an egg, like the election year revealed many globalists amongst the ranks of so called conservatives the Unite the Right Rally revealed many people who are willing to piss on white people and label them all KKK/Nazis (apparently too ignorant to even realize that those who identify as Nazis today are actually Neo-Nazis).

The Unite the Right rally revealed people who are more interested in appeasing Antifa and BLM that speaking honestly. No one I know supports or is a Neo-Nazi or a KKK member.

The vast vast majority on the right are not racists or supporters of racists they are believer in judging a man on the content of his character rather than the color of his skin, (hat tip to adulterer, anti-homosexual, anti gay marriage Martin Luther King Jr.).

Anyhow Matt Drudge had the audacity to cowardly make his headline “Make America Hate Again” during the Charlottesville melee.

Lines are being drawn, sides are being chosen, people are being killed, maimed, attacked and maligned and as far as I’m concerned Matt Drudge has chosen a side. And it ain’t mine.

Hello all 😊 – I’m back. Been a lousy few months, & I have not been able to keep up reading how everyone is doing. I hope everyone is doing well, & ignoring much of the “news”, which is actually the politicized “entertainment-news” business. They do it for ratings & to change public opinion, not to report truthful facts.
This is a “recipe” that I have made for years. Adjust to your tastes, but do not leave in too much of the bacon drippings if too much fat bothers you:
    1 (or more) package bacon
1 can black lentils (better flavor & more fiber than brown)
1 jar tomato sauce (we like Rao’s)
    1 box pasta
    1 onion
In large pan cook bacon, break up, & set aside. Keep some drippings in pan. While bacon is cooking, cook pasta*. Chop onion & brown in drippings. Drain excess bacon drippings, but keep onions in pan. Drain & rinse lentils, then stir into onions & brown. Add sauce to heat & de-glaze pan. If pan is large enough, add pasta stirring & cooking a bit. Re-add bacon to mixture. Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese on when serving.
*If you cook the pasta a little less (more al dente), & add a little more sauce you can put in a casserole dish sprayed with Pam, top with parmesan cheese (sliced or grated), & bake until it bubbles & some of the sauce is absorbed.
Here is an interesting painting by Arthur Wardle who painted mainly dogs, & a few people with them. This has autumn colors, but they convey the heat of a hot August day.

I forgot how I did this. I hope it appears.

      Welcome back, G&C.

I remember in my early 20s going to N. Vermont with all my friends from the Boston area. When they saw this, you inevitably heard them exclaim, “Look at all these STAHS! Wicked awesome!” Inside the Rte. 128 circle, you can’t see more than ten stars at night, let alone the Milky Way. And these folks, bless their hearts, had never been outside that circle, in their lives. When I moved there my Senior year in HS, many of the students seriously wondered if we had power and running water in Michigan, because it’s outside the 128 circle. I’ve heard that many New Yorkers think like this too.

As a senior in HS, and an accent chameleon, I developed it quickly. You didn’t talk like them, you were on the outside. I try to forget that part of my life, but there were, and are, some good points.

My Nana’s accent, it cannot be described with normal phonetics. It is a very incredibly unique regional accent. Like New Jersey, NYC, and Chicago, but with differences that are noticeable. I know Chicagoans (boy howdy, do I.), who talk like they’re from NYC. It’s the Tough Guy accent. Inside the 128 circle, even the girls have the Tough Guy accent, and then they take it, and accentuate it further afield from Normal American English.

“Inside the 128 circle, even the girls have the Tough Guy accent” That is in the Melrose, Lynn, Everett, Malden et al area. Some areas sound more like Maine accents, and some more like Old New England Yankee. My dad would always correct me if my Old New England Yankee accent slipped into the Melrose/Malden accent you described! The Kennedy accent was I believe made up by them just for them. I think they added British royalty to Old New England Yankee. I know of no one else who had an accent like that. Some had a mild version slightly different, but not like that.

Indeed. The accents are not only regional there, but sub-regional, and they change a lot depending on how far, and in which direction, from Congress Street you are. When I was in NH, and on an outing harvesting potatoes in Maine, the folks who owned the farm (and treated us to steak and lobster), didn’t sound at all like the stereotypical Mainer accent on the TeeVee (“Cahnt get theyah from heyah.”) , closer to the N.E. MA accent.

It was an amazing time in my life. From the woods barefoot on dirt roads, because we could, to the “T” (MBTA, of course), with it’s buses, subways, and trains. I knew every building in the city. Every street. Every alley. I was in all of them, every day. Tagged half the freight elevators with a sharpie. I bet some of my tags are still there, after 20+ years. Why? Because they were small. 1″ max.

I don’t think I’ll ever go back, even though State Street and Faneiul Hall were my stomping grounds. Boston City Hall is right next to there. It’s the most hideous building ever built in America. I bet if they got their accent right, their architectural and artistic skills would follow.

I told them, and pointed, as I was near the gilded 75 State, Fleet Bank’s flagship, (across the street from 60, also a nice building), that State Street Bank is on Franklin Street. Three blocks over, just over the park from Post Office Square. “See! It says State Street Bank on the top of it!”

Why isn’t it called Franklin Street Bank?

Given that most people in Boston cannot speak correctly, is it a wonder?

On some excursion in Salem, where they had witches painted on the sides of the police cars, there was a guy preaching in this central town square. I went over to talk with & encourage him & ultimately prayed with him & as we prayed a woman in flowing black garments & a pasty white face kept circling us from like ten feet out hissing & curling her fingers like claws toward us. It felt like being on the literal front line where Light & Darkness collide…Pretty intense, especially in the era of having recently read Frank Peretti’s Piercing the Darkness!

    Trump And The Jews

“But then, it wasn’t unprecedented for a president to obfuscate the potency of antisemitism in political violence.

In February 2015, a terrorist aligned with Islamic State entered the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in Paris on a Friday afternoon and held the Jewish shoppers hostage while killing four of them.

When asked about the event, then-president Barack Obama denied the massacre was an antisemitic attack. He referred to the victims as “a bunch of guys in a deli.” The perpetrators were merely “a bunch of violent, vicious zealots.”

When asked to clarify if Obama really meant to deny the attack was an antisemitic assault, both the White House and State Department spokespeople insisted, repeatedly, that the attack was not antisemitic.” …

“Antifa is problematic for American Jews specifically because it operates in a coalition of far-left groups that all hate Israel and believe that just as Republicans and conservatives should be banned from participating in public life, so American Jews who support Israel should be silenced. All of its coalition partners support the destruction of Israel and castigate the Jewish state as criminal. All bar Jews who support Israel – or even are proud of their Jewish identity – from participating in their events.” …

“Given that the white supremacists and radical leftists converge in their hatred of Jews, it is important for the American Jewish community and for America as a whole to embrace Trump’s actions. He is not engaging in moral equivalence between good and evil. He is exercising moral clarity. Without such clarity, the forces of Jew-hatred in the US will never be defeated. Without such clarity, the political position, security and freedom of American Jews will grow increasingly imperiled.

Israel’s job, to the extent it has one in the current fight plaguing the US, is to point out this truth, not join the bandwagon in obfuscating it. Trump is far from a perfect mouthpiece for this essential battle against Jew-haters on the Right and the Left.

But at least he is using his mouth to sound the battle cry. For this he should be applauded by Israelis and American Jews alike.”
