And it still continues. Yet more documents come out to show city Water Board folks were lying thru their teeth. One pump station was notified that they had to get started about 3:30ish and the pumps weren’t turned on until 9:30ish, other pumps that were running were only running at partial, generally less than 50%, until the flooding had started.
Next parish over, they share a major drainage canal with New Orleans, has a longstanding signed agreement that the status of the pumps on that canal that are operated by NOLA, would be reported to that parish’s drainage folks. That parish pays NOLA for maintenance and operation of that pump as it also drains some 2400 acres of that parish. NOLA never notified the parish the pump was out and the area flooded. Luckily they have a backup plan and used internal pumps to redirect flood waters to holding areas So the floiding wasn’t as bsd as it could have been.
Parish president got on TV and relayed his pique thru a press conference to the City. He even mentioned that he called the City, offered his maintenance people and whatever else help the City heeded to fix that and other pumps…and the city never called back.
I’ll bet that the tort lawyer ’round heuh are a sharpinin’ up them pencils….

    • But but but I read an AP story that said other wise! It weren’t no one’s fault. It was an equipment failure!

Somehow czar, none of what you’re saying surprises me.

It was an equipment failure, caused by poor maintenance and operations. What really pissed the people was being lied to about it again and again over days. The Orwellian doublespeak combined with a total disregard of the consequences…twice in about two weeks.
These guys were handpicked by the mayor, cronies who were going to whip the Board into shape, and they turned out to be as incompetent as the ones they were supposed to clean up. They never fought the underlings and accepted what they were told, passed the info they got upwards and, when the mess fobally collapsed, they tried to lue/wriggle talk their way out of it.
Heads are rolling (some still trying to wriggle talk out of it) and the mayor has egg all over him, just waiting to see how he’ll react when the lawsuits start rolling in.

Wait. Do I have this right? The people are going to sue the local gov. who will pay for the lawyers with the people’s money, and if the people win, the people’s money will then go to lawyers of the people?

          • czarowniczy says:

The city has lost so many lawsuits that each year a certain amount of money is allocated in the budget to pay off some of them. It can take years to get your payment when you sue the city and win. A lot of plaintiffs are finding ways to sue in Federal court instead as the payments must be immediate.
BTW, the state forbids plaintiffs from seizing any public properties to settle unpaid debts.

Here is the Office of the Inspector General Hotline contact webpage which includes a “submit a complaint” link: https://www.va.gov/oig/hotline/

While this page details how and where to make a whistleblower complaint – which Blanchard’s case wouldn’t necessarily be – it does provide several different ways of bringing issues to light: https://www.va.gov/oig/hotline/whistleblower-protection.asp

From the whistleblower page, these are incoming points for whistleblowers – I’m thinking they could be just as effective for Blanchard’s case:
      ~a member of Congress
~a representative of a committee of Congress
~the VA Inspector General or a VA employee responsible for contract oversight or management
~the Department of Justice or the Government Accountability Office
~a management official or other employee of the contractor or subcontractor who has the responsibility to investigate, discover, or address misconduct within the company
      ~a court or grand jury

Of course, there is always the President’s webpage/twitter…….

    It Was a ‘Brennan Operation’

Even lefty Seymour Hersh agrees that the Russian fable begin in the mind of Obama’s CIA director.

One wouldn’t expect Seymour Hersh, a lefty journalist par excellence, to pop the Trump-Russia propaganda balloon Obama’s CIA director John Brennan released last year. But he has. Hersh has been quoted as saying that the collusion claim is a product of “disinformation” — “a Brennan operation,” as he puts it.

Hersh says that Trump is not the villain but the victim in this story, and that the press has served as a shameful stenographer for Brennan to smear Trump. It has shown no skepticism toward any of his claims or the supposedly nonpartisan reports his cronies and political hacks assembled after the election. Hersh calls Brennan an “asshole” and a “buffoon.”

Indeed, it tells you all you need to know about the rottenness of the ruling class that such an open fraud could rise so high in Washington. Brennan, owing to his treasonous support for the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War (he voted for Gus Hall and supported the Soviet-controlled American Communist Party in the 1970s), should not have been allowed within a hundred-mile radius of Langley. Instead, he was hired and rose to the top of the CIA.

A tool of the Muslim Brotherhood (during a stint in Saudi Arabia he says that he grew to admire Islam and the concept of jihad), Brennan refused to take his oath as CIA director on the Bible. His hatred for Michael Flynn and Trump stems in large part from his Islamophilia and his nostalgia for the socialism and the atheism of the Old Soviet Union…

Unbelievable! The news was on on FOX and when I came back in the room they were showing the protests in VA. It was pretty obvious who the trouble makers were by their sticks helmets and masks. Also, if you watched for a couple of minutes, you would see those people attacking the other protesters. So, out of curiosity, I turned the station to CNN. They are going on and on about the “State of emergency in VA amid violent white nationalist protests”. They say the troublemakers are the alt-right, white supremicists, Ku Klux Klan, etc. Not what I am seeing. Oh, and the antifas have been bused in.

Also, every other sentence is about what has Pres. Trump said about this. SMH

Erasing History at Yale: Covers over Musket in Stone Carving of Puritan

Just a little over a year ago, an employee at Yale smashed a stained glass window at the school because he was angry over the image of African Americans carrying cotton. We covered it in this post: Yale employee smashes allegedly racist stained-glass window, Yale won’t press charges

Not only did Yale not press charges, they rehired the employee with much fanfare. Now another piece of campus art has been altered for the sake of political correctness.

Here’s the explanation in the Yale alumni magazine:

    Disarmament

If you were especially observant during your years on campus, you may have noticed a stone carving by the York Street entrance to Sterling Memorial Library that depict a hostile encounter: a Puritan pointing a musket at a Native American (top). When the library decided to reopen the long-disused entrance as the front door of the new Center for Teaching and Learning, says head librarian Susan Gibbons, she and the university’s Committee on Art in Public Spaces decided the carving’s “presence at a major entrance to Sterling was not appropriate.”

So Yale placed stone over the musket in the carving. This image is from the Yale alumni magazine:

Let me preface the following statement with the fact that I am tired. I am tired of what our beautiful country has become after witnessing the unspeakable violence in Virginia today. Well. that and the fact I just had a stiff drink! Also, Stella, if you feel this statement is too dark, please feel free to delete it with my blessings. OK, here we go.
There is a storm brewing. A storm not made by God’s hands, but by the hand of man. Men with evil goals of destroying freedom and all who cherish it.
The storm has been brewing for decades. Little by little it has shaped, molded, and cultivated the seeds of hate, discontent, and division.
The final tempest has appeared on the horizon. It’s magnitude has never been seen before on this planet. It’s intent is no longer concealed.
It will rip apart any shred of humanity, decency, and compassion that still remains in the hearts of men.
We cannot stop this storm. We can, however, steal ourselves to withstand it’s fury and pray that some of us will survive. Survive to start anew and rebuild this world in a manner that will please God.
Stand strong my friends. Stand together as one. Stand in God’s name.
I pray when the storm subsides, as all storms do, we will be here to greet each other and rejoice in the chance we have been given.
I truly do appreciate each and everyone of you here at Stella’s Place.

God’s protection is different than what we expect. Leading members of God’s flock, including all but one of the apostles, have died martyrs.

We all have to die, one way or another. I think God may count it grace for some to suffer and die in His name. We, on the other hand, do not.

NBC is reporing that the ‘white nationalist’ parade in Charlottesville as” eerily similar to Nazi gatherings in the 1920s and 30s”, complete with picture of Hitler saluting the parafing SA. Thry then ran immediately into how many of the white nationalists were open Trump supporters then cut to an interview with David Duke.
Appears that white nationalist’ has become the press’s preferred pejorative term to describe whites who have a higher opinion of themselves than other races do.
