Chef told me about this today, after I introduced him to Zepparella. This made Robert Plant cry.
And he hates it when people cover this song.

Not music, but I’ve been meaning to share this with you for awhile. This guy is a cab driver in NYC, and a musician, although I think that was just a love of guitar, and not professional. He is Catholic, and some of his writing is pure Catholic, but so much of it is about just being a good man. Reformed. Using his job to help people.
Sometimes when I think about him I just skip through a bunch of his stuff for hours.
Anyhow, sometimes when I read his stuff I think you would enjoy it too.

More truth from Saint Augustine…
“Who can map out the various forces at play in one soul? Man is a great depth, O Lord. The hairs of his head are easier by far to count than his feeling, the movements of his heart.”

I just read today’s commentary from Bishop Barron. It finishes with some of St. Augustine’s wisdom. I’ve read this idea about prayer before, and it has been crucial in my thinking. So many give up angrily on prayer when they don’t get instant gratification.
What if there is so much more to prayer than we ever thought about. Not just that the answer might be no, or that we have to wait. What if it IS an exercise for us.
18TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR I
MATTHEW 15:21-28
Friends, in today’s Gospel we witness the strange exchange between Jesus and a feisty woman. It is one of the only scenes in the Gospels where someone seems to get the better of Jesus. First Jesus refuses even to acknowledge her. Then his disciples tell her to back off. Finally, Jesus hits her with a devastating one-liner: “I have come for the lost sheep of the house of Israel; it is not right to throw food to dogs.”
This woman—probably a widow and certainly a foreigner—is given a triple brush-off. In this she stands for all those who stand outside, on the margins, alone. Then we hear the woman’s snappy come-back: “Even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the master’s table.” She will not be put off by this brusque behavior.
Now, what do we make of this story? A long tradition stresses the perseverance of the woman in the face of the “test” that Jesus sets for her. And there is something right about it. Augustine says that we pray in order to expand our will to accept what God is going to give us.

Mom of pro-Trump child can’t find a baker to make a pro-Trump cake

Mom should start baking pro-Trump cakes and selling them.
Why not? There appears to be a vacuum in the market.
In fact, I wish I knew how to bake, and sell pro-Trump cakes online.
I’d make a fortune.

I would play both sides, too.
trumpcakes dot com would specialize in making pro-Trump, pro-America cakes. Layered 3-D representations of his resorts and hotels and towers. The Trump Tower cake would fetch a high price, especially with delivery. I’d make his head, too.
…and gaycakes dot com would only do cakes for gay weddings.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make cakes.

The @&$*%#€ Army has been looking for a ‘new and more effective combat rifle’ since the end of WWII. We hsd the big cobtest thst ended with the M-14, the Garand bastard child. It was a good battle rifle but was useless in full auto. Then McNamara pushed the M-16, badtard child of the AR-10.
We suffered with that 16 for decades as they told us you couldn’t make an AP round and Europe proved them wrong. Then we went tonthe M4 thst can’t effectively serve as a battle rifle. Along the way commercial items like reflex and red dot dights, rail systems, all the stuff the Ordnance Bureau ‘experts’ couldn’t even trip over.
The Israelis stole the badic AK design and improved it to make the Galil. They made it in 5.56 first and fidcovered, decades ago, that the round was not all that effective at long range in the desert….sound familiar? So they up and built a Galil in 7.62 and issued the rifles to troops depending on their missions. Ordnance Burea won’t follow that though, it has to be an ‘invented here’ creation.
Remember the other bastard child, the M-16 with the integral electronic controlled grenade launcher? It was supposed to range the distance to the target and program the grensde to burst inside of/over the target. It looked like a Buck Rogers ray gun with thyroid problems. Millions were spent developing it but as hard as Ordnance tried they just couldn’t make it workable. It died a wuiet death.
Main problem is, adide from the folks at Ordnance, our people are lousy shots. Last time I went to qualify I was 58 and still ended up in the yop 3 scores at the predeployment course, that’s pathetic. Note you are not hearing anything about how many rounds the US forces are expending per enemy cadualty in Iraq or Afghanistan, wonder why? In Vietnam it was upwards of 25-THOUSAND per VC casualty. A different gun won’t make poor shooters better.

Alas, I could not, even though it would have been glorious.
Gah! I got called into work, because the young, short, 125 lb. (soaking wet) baby-daddy dish/prep guy, driving through a black neighborhood, got his car hit by a rock thrown by a lawnmower, and decided to turn his nerdy little butt’s car around and confront the homeowner, pretend to be a badass, and got his butt kicked in front of his baby-momma, who works here too, with five quick punches to the melon.
When they called me in at 4 (to come in at 5), they said he had a migraine. When I came in I found out why. I guess he has a fractured jaw, too. I’m scheduled off tomorrow, too, but little Daddy badass will probably call in tomorrow, too.
I hope he learned his lesson. I doubt it. I’ll probably not have a sunset pic until Monday at the earliest, as this weekend is SH’s National Blueberry Festival, and is our busiest weekend of the year.
Col. Ken, you’re invited. Good luck finding parking.

Awwwww…dobies, and I’d have had one except Czarina has a genetic dread of them. Way back in the early 70s one of the women I worked with raised them, they were all huge, oversized by the standards. They were out of Borong’s Warlock and the Warlance strain…imagine a dob some 30 inches at the shoulder and muscled. Too bad the innercity dog crowds did do much damage to the breed.

The breed’s only about 120 years old and I think they’re super. I like the British version without cropped ears or tail, they look more like hounds than hellhounds, I never was a fan of any form of dog cosmetic mutilation.
I think that they are a graceful dog and as ferocious and focused on the sttack as a German Shepherd but more terrier-like. I remember the big Borong strain one going through a jalousi set on a door to go after a roofer. That’s terrier.

And still the last two rain-caused NOLA floods shake out.
Our last flood, second in about two weeks, has the natives understandably riled. The day of the flood the Sewer and Water Board chief, an outsider hired to ride herd on the notoriously ineffective department, told the news that all of the city’s pumps were running and we should expect to ve flooded as gloval warming was causing heavier rains and the system can’t keep up them.
Fast forward to Tuesday annnnnnnd we find the chief’s subordinates lied and about 10% of the pumps were down. They wouldn’t have made all that much of a difference but the fact that the outsider’s underlings (who are indiders ) lied…welllllll
Yesterday the City Council held a meeting where one of the chief underlings again testified that all of the pumps were working at full capacity. When a councilmember mentioned that they knew that pumps were down the underling, with a straight face, said that he was saying that all of the working pumps were working at full capacity. Not a good word game to play when the pols were looking to find a straw dog.
Mayor gave a speech, never being one to miss a chance to make it all about him, beginning with how he’d rescued his little brother and grandmother from a flood many years ago. He announced a housecleaning at the Board, with a number if the top echelon being asked to resign. He failed to mention that many of those asked to resign were his handpicked cronies meant to fix the service if not just keep it from screwing up so openly. The chief is staying on at least until the end of hurricane season as finding a competent replacement is tough, who wants the job of Chief of Dewatering on the Titanic?
The city’s been flooding for centuries, the years we were there we had numerous major ‘water events’, the first year we were there we have pix of us kbee deep in water on a major hiway right next to a major outfall canal. The city can’t stay dry and it’s only going to get worse. At some point the various flood-related insurance costs are going to make it too expensive to live here and there’s going to be a shakeup. Until tgen we’ll keep playing these games.

All you SEA-TAC residents might wanna look up and smile as Uncle wants to put you on not-so-candid camera.
Seems a USAF surveillance aircraft’s been flying loops around the Seattle area for days.
http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/13154/this-mysterious-military-spy-plane-has-been-flying-circles-over-seattle-for-days
The plane seems to be configured in a surveillance mode, especially in what may be a mode used to track individual movement over an extended period. Hmmmmmm…. a signals intel capability AND a photographic mode used to ID targets on a hostile environment? Over a major US city?
One could say that it was being worked on at Boeing Field and getting a shakeout over the Seattle area…but daily for some two weeks? Might be working with a McChord-Ft Lewis unit, this is the home of the old HTTC (High Tech Test Center, lovingly known to us as ‘Here Try This Crap’). Might be a really PO’d group of DoD Windows 10 users targeting the Microsoft HQ….unlikely but it gives me a warm fuzzy.
I was watching a new intel system just before I retired. It used a video of a city taken over an extended period of time along with software that can not only enhance the images but also track a single target (as in a car or truck) over an extended period. Combine that capability along with the signals intelligence suite on that plane and you have a one-stop shop. You can track and intercept an individual’s communications and portable computing devices while you follow him on foot or in a vehicle…for hours.
Before I left at least one company was offering this service to cities, counties and states. For a fee a drone would surveil your target area continually. The downloaded data would be ‘enhanced’ by the firm’s software and the final product would allow the purchaser to have a god’s-eye zoomable view of everything going on outdoors within the target area. Now, I understand, it’s wide open with a number of companies offering this plus upgraded versions of the services to deep pocket buyers.
OK, this is all for use against our enemies overseas and would never be combined with data Federal and State LEA gather with licence plate readers, phony cell tower taps, metadata mining…none of that…to compile self-serving profiles of innocent civilians. At some point our military uses will wane overseas and to remain a viable tool will have to be exercised somewhere….gee, I wonder where?

WASHINGTON — The State Department has expelled two diplomats from the Cuban Embassy in Washington following a series of unexplained incidents in Cuba that left U.S. officials there with physical symptoms.
Two State Department officials said Wednesday that the Cubans were asked to leave the U.S. on May 23 after Americans in Cuba “reported incidents which have caused a variety of physical symptoms,” causing them to leave the island. The officials would not say what the symptoms were or provide details about the incidents. One official said the first incident occurred late last year and continued, prompting the Americans to depart the island and the department to act against the Cuban diplomats in the U.S. The officials said the Cubans left the U.S. but would not say when. Neither official was authorized to speak publicly to the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The officials said the department did not have definitive explanations for the incidents, which were first reported by CBS Radio News, but stressed it takes them “very seriously” and is working to determine their “cause and impact.”
But they said the department has reminded Cuba of its international obligation to protect foreign diplomats.
The officials said the Cuban government had assured the U.S. that it is investigating and will take appropriate measures.
Harassment of U.S. diplomats in Cuba is not uncommon and dates to the restoration of limited ties with the communist government in the 1970s.

A few decades back, when the Russians had certain ‘tined’ surveillance devices in the walls of and on the desks of the Embassy in Moscow the embassy was so bombarded by microwaves they had monitors to make sure no one was fried. If you remember, Reagan scrapped the new Moscow embassy as it was so riddled with microwave listening devices it was useless.

Technically, the USA is still at war with North Korea. A cease fire was agreed upon, but no peace treaty was negotiated nor signed.
The MSM wallowing about in Trump’s “Fire and Fury” statement are all pearl clutching about CONGRESS opinions and backlash….McCain among them.
But Trump does NOT have to ask Congress for diddledeesquat to attack North Korea…as NO ONE closed the loop after the 1950s war with NK.
Hey McCain…..Bomb Bomb Bomb…..Bomb Bomb defatman…..

Big problem is that we can’t go this alone and not all of the other parties we’d need to cooperate with us are onboard for a shooting match, especially the ones in NK missile range.

I assume you mean the photo at the very top with the “standing stones”. The place is real, but the stones are not. It is a movie set, but the site of filming is at Kinnloch Rannoch in Perthshire.

REPORT: Justice Department Has Offered Hillary A Plea Deal
‘Ample grounds for prosecuting Hillary on a number of counts’
http://www.dailywire.com/news/19523/report-justice-department-has-offered-hillary-plea-joseph-curl
You won’t see THIS on CNN.
“The Justice Department has reopened the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified material on her private email system while she was secretary of state, and is considering offering her a plea bargain if she will agree to plead guilty to charges of breaking the law, according to a Clinton attorney,” Newsmax reports.
The discussion of a plea bargain took place late last month and was offered by a high-ranking Justice Department official to the Clinton lawyer.
During the exploratory talks with the prosecutor, the Clinton attorney was told that despite former FBI Director James Comey’s decision last July not to prosecute Hillary, the Justice Department has reexamined the email case and believes there are ample grounds for prosecuting Hillary on a number of counts.
Under the Justice Department’s plea offer, Hillary would be required to sign a document admitting that she committed a prosecutable crime. In return, the DOJ would agree not to bring charges against Hillary in connection with the email probe.
Also as part of the agreement, the Justice Department would not proceed with an investigation of Hillary’s pay to play deals with foreign governments and businessmen who contributed to the Clinton Foundation or who paid Bill Clinton exorbitant speaking fees.
The Clinton attorney cautioned that normally a plea is offered by a prosecutor only upon arraignment, and Hillary has not yet been charged with any crime.

Still doesn’t fill the bill. She can always say that she only signed it to prevent Trump’s DoJ from railroading her. To me nothing short of her in jail and wearing black and white striped Spanx will do. The sight of her supporters wearing 3X ‘FREE HILLARY!’ T-shirts gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

“No”…just say “no” to any deal. Protecting lawbreakers is an Obama thing…we’re supposed to have moved out of that mind-set and into prosecutions for those breaches of the law which are completely provable. If she goes to trial, there’s always the possibility that she’ll get a judge or jury which won’t convict, but that’s the chance you have to take.
If taken by Hill/Bill. this offer just may be a way to scotch her next ballot box try. So there’s THAT. After all, an admitted felon isn’t exactly the most viable candidate.
The cacophony from the unhinged Dems will be excruciating. But, man, I’d hate to see her and Billy Jeff skate.

Hmmm… I have been out of the loop but Hillary’s pastor (whoever that is) said that she is considering becoming a pastor. Satan’s spokesperson. Anyhow if a deal is in the works her sudden “religion” would make sense.
I really hope the DOJ does not cut Hillary a deal, she has blood on her hands.

It is pretty bad. He is being placed on a machine that removes blood and oxygenates it and recirculates it. They say it is very risky, but he’s not getting enough oxygen. It will be a long night for the family. His daughter especially needs prayers for God to continue giving her the strength to hold up. For a teenage girl she has been stronger than most adults would be. She has had a lot put on her young shoulders.

Manafort’s Home Searched as Part of Mueller Inquiry
WASHINGTON — Investigators for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, recently searched the Northern Virginia home of President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, for tax documents and foreign banking records, a sign that the inquiry into Mr. Manafort has broadened, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The search was carried out at Mr. Manafort’s Alexandria, Va., home shortly after Mr. Manafort met with investigators for the Senate Intelligence Committee on July 25. In that meeting, Mr. Manafort answered questions and provided investigators with notes from a 2016 meeting between Trump campaign officials and Russians claiming to have damaging information on Hillary Clinton.
Mr. Manafort’s spokesman confirmed that an F.B.I. raid had been carried out.
“Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well,” said Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Mr. Manafort. News of the search warrant was first reported on Wednesday by The Washington Post.
Until now, it was only known that Mr. Manafort was under investigation for his business dealings with his son-in-law, his role in the 2016 meeting between Trump campaign officials and the Russians and whether his work for the Ukranian government violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
The government rarely prosecutes cases related to the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and Mr. Manafort’s consulting firm retroactively filed forms with the Justice Department last month to be in compliance with the act.
But the search warrant for the tax and foreign banking records suggests that investigators are looking at criminal charges related to the federal Bank Secrecy Act, which requires Americans to report their foreign banking accounts.

Part of the official ‘Trump vilification’ program. Throw as much mud, real or created, on anyone close to or who could be helpful to Trump’s defense and you help guide any trial’s direction. Ain’t unusual for an ambitious prosecutor to help build a case by actively discrediting the defense’s witnesses. Doesn’t have to be any real wrongdoing, just the created oerception of such is enough.
Geez, looking for papers related to any meetings between Trump people and Russian political operatives? HEADLINE: PAPERS FOUND DIRECTLY REFERENCING MEETINGS BETWEEN TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIAN OPERATIVES, Subhead : papers are six efitions of the Washington Post.

Looks as if some of our illegals are leaving for Canada …
The Latest: Canada sends soldiers to migrant border crossing
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/article166261812.html
SAINT-BERNARD-DE-LACOLLE, Quebec
The Latest on the increasing flow of migrants over the U.S.-Canadian border at a remote spot in northern New York and southern Quebec (all times local):
1:40 p.m.
Canada has sent about 100 soldiers to a remote spot on the Quebec-New York border where asylum seekers are crossing illegally.
The Canadian military said in a statement Wednesday that the soldiers will help the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canada Border Services Agency at the site.
They are preparing a place for tents that can hold almost 500 people. They will also install lighting and heating equipment.
The military says the soldiers won’t play a role in security and won’t be helping with law enforcement.
The military says that once the site is completed, only a few will soldiers will stay behind. The rest will go back to their home base.
The migrants fear the U.S. is becoming less welcoming and have decided to try their luck seeking asylum in Canada. Officials estimate that 400 people crossed the border at the site on Sunday alone.
___
1 a.m.
Thousands of migrants are fleeing the United States for Canada via a remote back road in upstate New York.
The Canadians arrest the migrants as soon as they step across the border. But the migrants prefer to take a chance by seeking asylum in Canada rather than risk being deported from the United States.
Canadian police have set up a reception center on their side of the border. It includes tents where migrants are processed before they are turned over to the government agency that handles their applications for refuge.
Officials estimate that 400 people crossed the border at the site on Sunday alone.
Canada said last week it planned to house some migrants in Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. It could hold thousands, but current plans only call for only 450.

And besides, what’s the big deal about not wanting to go home…no living off the government available? Yeah, probably.
Trudeau better not try sending them back to the U.S.

There was a situation about 10 or 15 years ago that started with the illegals becoming nervous about being thrown out of the US. A travel agency here in FL sent out flyers telling illegals that they would be accepted in Canada and given a place to live and food, while they waited to be accepted as refugees. So, they bought their tickets and went to this little town in Canada who accepted them with open arms, the parents and all their children. However, within a week so many had arrived that the town had used up its yearly budget for such things and they started being put back on planes and sent back.
Only, the US wouldn’t accept them because they were here illegally in the first place, so they were sent back to Mexico.

Where was that Canadian border security in the 90s when we were catching illegals sneaking into the US from Canada, especially those Mideastern types, a few who were daught with explosives? How ’bout that border security that was so lax snakeheads were freely using the indian reservations on the border to run illegal Chinese, including women and kids for the sex trade, into the US?
Oh yeah, thst’s right, they were coming INTO the US…not a Canadian problem.

The above links are to just two of the great comments on article “Facebook Board Warned Peter Thiel Supporting Trump Would Amount To ‘Negative Performance Evaluation” Remember Peter is the guy who came out gay at Republican convention.
“Mr. Hastings, the chairman of a committee that evaluates Facebook’s board members, told Mr. Thiel in an email dated Aug. 14 that the advocacy would reflect badly on Mr. Thiel during a review of Facebook directors scheduled for the next day.
“I see our board being about great judgment, particularly in unlikely disaster where we have to pick new leaders,” Mr. Hastings wrote in the email to Mr. Thiel, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times. “I’m so mystified by your endorsement of Trump for our President, that for me it moves from ‘different judgment’ to ‘bad judgment.’ Some diversity in views is healthy, but catastrophically bad judgment (in my view) is not what anyone wants in a fellow board member.”
Yep, think this Netflix user will no longer be.

DHS: 23% of all federal prisoners are illegals, just 7 of 42,034 saved from deportation
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/dhs-23-of-all-federal-prisoners-are-illegals-just-7-of-42034-saved-from-deportation/article/2630999
Nearly one-quarter of all federal inmates are illegal immigrants and virtually all are in deportation proceedings or already face removal orders, according to a new Homeland Security report.
The Justice Department’s Bureau of Prisons, fulfilling a presidential executive order requiring transparency on prisoner immigration status, said that it houses 187,855 inmates of which 42,034 are foreign born.
The DHS report said that only seven of those 42,034 have been granted deportation “relief.” According to DHS:
19,749 (46.9 percent) are aliens who have received final orders of removal.
21,121 (50.2 percent) are aliens who are under ICE investigation for possible removal.
1,157 (2.8 percent) are aliens whose cases are pending adjudication before an Immigration Judge in the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR).
7 (.0002 percent) are aliens who have been granted relief.
And much more.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
