Posted it before, one of my ex’s great great grandfathers was a craftsman who worked on constructing the Tabernacle. They used to hold practices with the organ that Gentiles could attend. Fantastic acoustics and a fantastic organ.

On a summer day, if it gets to be 70 degrees out, they think they are having a tropical heatwave! Everyone goes to the park for lunch and takes their top off, even females! We lived near the sea, so it never got that cold either. I’ve seen it colder in the North Georgia mountains than I ever saw it in Rosyth.

Wow. I don’t know if it’s ever been that hot here. I used to see it be over 110 sometimes in Kansas, but it really didn’t feel worse than temps here with high humidity.

Isn’t that something? We’ll see how it goes. It may just be that they’re all excited to get to forecast something so extreme and are going to ride it for all it’s worth – kind of like the hurricane forecasts.
I’ve told Eric that if it weren’t for traffic accidents and winter weather, Oregon TV stations wouldn’t have anything to talk about. In this case, summer weather gives them something to buzz over.
Of course, the total eclipse actually is a big deal and it’s going to be a really good time to stay home! The I-5 corridor up and down the middle of the valley here is going to be jammed. The camping sites have been sold out since forever and hotels and BnBs are charging obscene rates (and apparently it’s ok, as far as I can see)
We will have over a minute of total eclipse here – I’m not in the center of it but enough to get totality for a bit. Should be interesting.

…..I know that part of the concern will be not have “too many” people dying on the streets, since there are a considerable number of homeless in Portland metro area. I’m going to try to remember to ask Eric if the Trimet (bus/light rail) drivers will have some kind of “alert permission” to notify someone if they see people in trouble. [He is still appreciating the benefits and learnings of driving the big buses….it’s a good deal for him since he jumped in early enough to gain a third retirement/pension source before he’s 65 and easier on his body than the screen printing was getting to be.]
He will be a grandpa at the end of August! His first grandchild….good times……

Food: Because innovations in transportation were still in their infancy in 1815, most Americans ate what they grew or hunted locally. Corn and beans were common, along with pork. In the north, cows provided milk, butter, and beef, while in the south, where cattle were less common, venison and other game provided meat. Preserving food in 1815, before the era of refrigeration, required smoking, drying, or salting meat. Vegetables were kept in a root cellar or pickled.
For those who had to purchase their food, one record notes the following retail prices in 1818 in Washington, D.C.: beef cost 6 to 8 cents a pound, potatoes cost 56 cents a bushel, milk was 32 cents a gallon, tea 75 cents to $2.25 a pound. Shoes ran $2.50 a pair. Clothing expenses for a family of six cost $148 a year, though the record does not indicate the quality of the clothes.
note: cheap beef in Washington DC helped assure today that cow manure is virtually free and dominates all locations in the Capital especially on the Hill.

Beautiful photo of an ancient bridge in Glen Coe, Stella.
Here’s an interesting article about Glen Coe and how the mountains and valleys were formed…
“Glen Coe is probably Scotland’s most famous and most scenic Highland glen. Visitors from all over the world flock here year after year, inspired by the sheer scale and grandeur of its surrounding mountains and fascinated by the intrigue of its turbulent past. But how did such a beautiful landscape rise?”

The song was written by Question Mark (Rudy Martinez) in 1962 in his manager’s living room, and was recorded in Bay City, Michigan.[9] At first, Question Mark had to insist that “96 Tears” be the A-side over “Midnight Hour”. Once the issue was settled, the band recorded the single for the small Pa-Go-Go label, owned by Lilly Gonzalez. She backed the band financially, and allowed access to her personal studio in her basement. When it began doing well locally, the band took a recording to Bob Dell, the radio director in Flint, Michigan. The song became the most requested, and wider radio play spread into Canada where it was picked up by Cameo Records for national distribution.
Various reports have suggested that Question Mark first wrote the song under the name “Too Many Teardrops” and then “69 Tears.” but then changed the title, fearing that radio stations wouldn’t play the song. However, Question Mark denied this in an interview, stating that the number 96 has a deep philosophical meaning for him.
Known for its signature organ licks and bare-bones lyrics, “96 Tears” is recognized as one of the first garage band hits, and has even been given credit for starting the punk rock movement.
thank you wiki….I never heard of them….but it was Flint Michigan where they recorded it, and I have been to Flint….

My guess is that they will leave a couple of Senators in DC so they are not really on recess. It has been done before. They only have to meet every two days and call the congress in session and then bang that sucker again to close session.

Yeah, I remember when that happened during 43’s Presidency.
The reason I mentioned it is that they will be unable to start hearings on a new AG appointment for more than a month if it is done now. That leaves Rod whats-his-name in charge again for an extended period of time.

A downgrade is unusual at Administration level and DHS is already sort of used to Kelly, a military man who is popular with the exmilitary and expolice in DHS. A step down by an ATTORNEY GENERAL to take the position of Director of Homeland Security is really unusual, like Trump leaving the CEO spot to become a desk clerk.
If Trump’s unhappy with Sessions why give a failed AG a slot at a lower level, why not just can him and let the flak rain out? DHS needs a general like Kelly, someone who knows how a large and dynamic organization needs to be run and not a lawyer fresh from leafing a nest of lawyers, who’d you want standing between your family and Obama’s hordes of murderous Moslems?

State Dept. in ‘Open War’ With White House
Source: State Dept. ignoring White House edicts, going rogue on key issues
http://freebeacon.com/national-security/state-dept-open-war-white-house/
The State Department under Secretary Rex Tillerson has been locked in a growing power struggle with the White House that has angered officials in the West Wing and sparked claims that the Trump administration’s top diplomatic organ is now in “open war” with the White House on a range of critical issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian impasse, Iran, the crisis with Qatar, and other matters, according to multiple sources who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon about the situation.
The State Department is said to be in a state of “massive dysfunction,” with top officials working under Tillerson ignoring White House directives on critical staffing issues and key policy matters, according to multiple sources, including administration allies who are said to be increasingly frustrated with what is perceived as the White House’s inability to control its own federal agencies.
The tensions have fueled an outstanding power battle between the West Wing and State Department that has handicapped the administration and resulted in scores of open positions failing to be filled with Trump confidantes. This has allowed former Obama administration appointees still at the State Department to continue running the show and formulating policy, where they have increasingly clashed with the White House’s own agenda…
“Foggy Bottom is still run by the same people who designed and implemented Obama’s Middle East agenda,” the source said. “Tillerson was supposed to clean house, but he left half of them in place and he hid the other half in powerful positions all over the building. These are career staffers committed to preventing Trump from reversing what they created.”
One of the central points of contention between the White House and State Department has been a plethora of agency vacancies that have yet to be filled. The White House is said to have sent many lists of potential candidates for these jobs, but senior aides to Tillerson have ignored the White House and trashed these lists, according to multiple sources.
This has resulted in key State Department positions remaining unfilled, a situation that has only elevated the roles of former Obama administration officials who still work in the department.
“Those lists [of candidates] literally go nowhere,” according to one veteran Republican foreign policy operative familiar with the situation. “It’s like a sham process. And the reason is not because the White House isn’t behaving professionally. It’s because Tillerson isn’t professional at all.”

Daily Caller reports that these very same press creatures who worked with Fusion GPS to spread the false stories about Trump, have gotten curiously silent about the firm’s role in the widening web of scandal about the firm’s actual role in colluding with the Russians. They include CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times, none of which have reported a word about the new revelations showing that Fusion GPS took money from the Russians to undercut President Trump.
Fusion GPS apparently took money from anyone. They not only cooked up the infamous phony “golden showers” dossier about President Trump, not a word of which was true, though some media outlets reported it that way, they also engineered the Russian meetings with President Trump’s son, Donald Trump, Jr., and two other associates inside the Trump Tower, as a means of making it appear that Trump was in bed with the Russians all along. In testimony last Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committe, hedge fund manager William Browder said they were up to their eyeballs working with the most nefarious elements of the Russian government/oligarchy. Daily Caller writes:…

WAR FOOTING US Air Force unleashes supersonic bombers in ‘North Korea nuke drill’ as it’s claimed Donald Trump is ‘poised to launch military strike’ against the rogue state
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4130488/us-air-force-unleashes-supersonic-bombers-in-north-korea-nuke-drill-as-its-claimed-donald-trump-is-poised-to-launch-military-strike-against-the-rogue-state/
DONALD Trump ‘is to order a military strike against North Korea within a year’ after Kim Jong-un’s military boasted it had fired a ballistic missile capable of hitting the US.
Senior military sources in Washington have reportedly claimed Pentagon officials have laid out plans to obliterate a nuclear weapons facility operating deep within a mountain range inside the rogue state.
The news comes hours after the US flew two supersonic bombers over the Korean Peninsula in a show of force against North Korea.
The B-1 bombers were escorted by South Korean fighter jets as they performed a low-pass over an air base near the South Korean capital of Seoul before returning to the Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.
The US Air Force said the mission was a response to consecutive ICBM tests by Kim this month.

so Breitbart posts this story….what has happened to the real BB we used to know?
White Australians will be extinct within 40 years because Australian men are too busy smoking, drinking beer and taking drugs to procreate, a Muslim businessman has warned.
Halal certification chief Mohamed Elmouelhy told his Facebook followers the solution to this perceived demographic crisis for Australian women is for Muslim men to “fertilise them” and “keep them surrounded by Muslim babies” as part of what he foresees as the gradual Islamisation of Australia.

there are no women or blacks in the assault troop cast because they were all killed on the initial wave against the Germans….the Military decided that transgenders, women, gay and lesbians, blacks, hispanics, and asians should show superior ability on the battlefield and should have an opportunity to show off their talents without having to be hidden among a bunch of old white males in olive drab costumes.
The Dunkirk film cast is the second wave sent in to fix the problems created by the fluid gender crowd and the social justice warrior attack force.

My friend and I went to see the movie Maudie today. I can admit to having doubts about how good it would be or even if I would like it. It stars Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins. There is no beautiful scenery, no beautiful people or clothes, but very good acting. It is sort of sweet, sad, and dark with a thread of light and hope through the whole movie. I actually liked it very much. If you should decide to see it, be sure to watch all the way through to the VERY END. It is worth it. Oh, and it is a true story.

The Utter Complete Total Fraud of Wind Power
by Matt Ridley
The Global Wind Energy Council recently released its latest report, excitedly boasting that ‘the proliferation of wind energy into the global power market continues at a furious pace, after it was revealed that more than 54 gigawatts of clean renewable wind power was installed across the global market last year’.
You may have the impression from announcements like that, and from the obligatory pictures of wind turbines in any New York Times story, that wind power is making a big contribution to world energy today.
You would be wrong. Its contribution is still, after decades — nay centuries — of development, trivial to the point of irrelevance. Even after 30 years of huge subsidies, wind power provides only slightly more than zero energy to the world.
Even put together, wind and photovoltaic solar are supplying less than 1 per cent of global energy demand.
From the International Energy Agency’s 2016 Key Renewables Trends, we can see that wind provided 0.46 per cent of global energy consumption in 2014, and solar and tide combined provided 0.35 per cent. Remember this is total energy, not just electricity, which is less than a fifth of all final energy, the rest being the solid, gaseous, and liquid fuels that do the heavy lifting for heat, transport and industry.
Wind energy is 3.3% of the 13.8% of the renewable fuel share. 13.8% x 3.3% = 0.46%
Such numbers are not hard to find, but they don’t figure prominently in reports on energy derived from the Unreliables Lobby (solar and wind). Their trick is to hide behind the statement that close to 14 per cent of the world’s energy is renewable, with the implication that this is wind and solar.
In fact the vast majority — three quarters — is biomass (mainly wood), and a very large part of that is ‘traditional biomass’: sticks, logs, charcoal and dung burned by the poor in their homes to cook with. Those people need that energy, but they pay a big price in health problems caused by smoke inhalation.
Even in rich countries playing with subsidized wind and solar, a huge slug of their renewable energy comes from wood and hydro, the reliable renewables.
Meanwhile, world energy demand has been growing at about 2 per cent a year for nearly 40 years. Between 2013 and 2014, again using International Energy Agency data, it grew by just under 2,000 terawatt-hours.
If wind turbines were to supply all of that growth but no more, how many would need to be built each year? The answer is nearly 350,000, since a two-megawatt turbine can produce about 0.005 terawatt-hours per annum. That’s one-and-a-half times as many as have been built in the world since governments started pouring taxpayer money into this so-called industry in the early 2000s.
At a density of, very roughly, 50 acres per megawatt, typical for wind farms, that many turbines would require a land area half the size of the British Isles, including Ireland (61,000 sq mi). Every year.
If we kept this up for 50 years, we would have covered every square mile of a land area half the size of Russia with wind farms (3.05 million sq mi)…

Those stats are infuriating – and ignored. The last years we lived in SoCal, we watched the wind turbines multiplying in their thousands on the Tehachapi mountains and as I understand it, that entire project (25 years later) is now headed toward defunct. Fools spending other people’s money is a very bad thing.
Reminds me of the massive ethanol plants that were spring up all over MN/Iowa during the early 2000s, that entire market consuming all the corn crops in sight…..to the point that it actually happened that when some of the last ones while we were still there were just ready for their grand openings, THEY COULDN’T OPEN BECAUSE THERE WASN’T ENOUGH CORN ON THE MARKET IN THE ENTIRE REGION TO FEED THEIR DREAM FACILITY.
Absolutely infuriating.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Good Evening Stellarites!
I just wanted to share a link with you to the blog post (still a bit of a work in progress) celebrating the Fourth Anniversary of my son Josiah’s Liver Transplant while it’s still the official date, July 30.
Here I’ve chronicled much of our journey up to Transplant, starting from when he was first found to have Liver Masses/Tumors up through the first couple of days post Transplant. There is a lot of material there but it is broken down by dates of original postings at the carepages blog, which is the source for the bulk of this post. It’s just gathered in one place & chronologically so that anyone who feels like encountering our journey there (through my eyes) can do so without having to wade through even more material encompassing many other issues, like the Brain Tumor over at cp.
I hope to write a brief update about how Josiah is currently doing later “tonight”…& as always, we so appreciate your prayers for him (& our family). Blessings to all, Valerie
