    My day with the bureaucracy:
AM…I went to the VA clinic for a referral to their audiology labs, told anyone who’d listen that I had no intention of making the VA my primary health provider, my 1st World hospital would stay my primary provider. Doc said that regardless of that it was a requirement that I have a health screening to include a blood test. I agreed but told him I didn’t want to change my primary care provider, he agreed and he even said he knew two of my real doctors who were treating me for specific conditions. Well, no referral to the audiologist but two consults to VA docs in NOLA where I was referred for those two conditions we’d talked about popped up.

PM…The VA’s approved my disability, got last paperwork today and it’s bulk and breadth of detail is unusual for government stuff. I have paperwork from the VA showing the disability is due to Air Force service in Vietnam as verified by a certified copy of a DD 214 and as it’s Agent Orange caused it is, by law, combat related.
Now I have to send yet more forms to the Air Force office charged with certifying the Vietnam service the VA already certified and that they believe it’s combat related even though the law says it is as I was in Vietnam. They send this paperwork to DFAS, the DoD office that sends me my retirement pay.
I have the form they need filled in, along with copies of all of the VA paperwork showing the VN service and Agent Orange connection. I even had a copy of my retirement orders they want, even though DFAS they talk to regularly could confirm my Army retirement and they have access to DEERS which could also confirm my retirement (they are the agency that certifies reissues of our retirement ID cards). OK, I burn a copy of my orders BUT…the VA got the last copy of my 214.
A little looking shows me that this AF office is part of AF personnel and the AF personnel pukes still have copies of my records archived. Well, you’d think that being a part of AF personnel they could access their records…think again, they don’t talk to that department.
So now I have to go the National Personnel Records Center where the AF sent my original files, they have to dig thru their stacks (think Indiana Jones and the Ark), burn a copy and send it to me. I will then send it back to the office that’s part of the personnel office that sent it to the NPRC in the first place and should still have it on digital record.
There’s one other option…I retired from the Army ten years ago but my digitalized records are still online. There may be a copy of my AF 214 buried in it as over 40 years ago when I switched to the Army they got a copy to,prove prior service and time-in-service. They say that crap never completely disappears from the internet, and that’s a skill gleaned from Army personnel records types. OK, the stuff you need frequently disappears but the stuff that should be culled stays put. With any luck I might be able to dig out and download a copy there.
I’m in bureaucratic pergatory for a life spent being a bureaucrat.

The VA is a huge influence machine, the VA builds a facility in a Federal Rep’s or Senstor’s district and they pretty well own those pols. The huge amounts of money the VA pours into chosen contractors for the operation and maintenance of that facility and how that influence flows into the pols’ pockets assures the vets come in second.
I fought the VA in the early 70s with a Senator’s office to no avail. They bent but didn’t break under Reagan and Bushes I and II let them ride as they were so strong in Texas. Carter and Clinton just didn’t care and Clinton even explored turning the VA into a huge Vet and public heathe-welfare complex.
If we go back to the VA IG’s report of September 2015 it showed that some 307,000 vets fired waiting for VA care and the reasons they were waiting were largely BS. As I said a week or so ago, that exceeds the combined numbers of US military killed in all wars from the Korean War to date. The VA is complicit in the deaths of more US military personnel than the North Koreans, China, Vietnamese Communists and all of the Islamic insurgents combined.
Thanks for asking, but the only way the VA is going to change is if the vets themselves start to act out as they did just after Vietnam and Congress drains that swamp instead of putting bandaids on it.

        • I’m sorry you have to deal with so much red tape, czar. It’s despicable. My husband was telling me that he heard from his veteran friend today. Somehow his VA account got hacked. It sounds like whoever did it used his medical conditions and knew all the things he’s been seen for. They put a different routing number in and tried to obtain his benefits. 😡 Thankfully he caught it.

What bothers me is that I don’t need the medical or disability benefits to survive, I have super private medical and Czarina and I planned well, what about those vets who need these services and benefits to survive?
Illegal immigrants and professional welfare parasites get better treatment than vets who actually did something for America’
In The Tuskegee syphilis experiment some 600 black males were duped (?) into the program over some 40 years…massive public outcry. 307,000 dead vets of all races tied to VA perfidy…not a peep.
As for the patient losing his VA data, the Feds have been ape dancing around over IT security for twenty years I know of with precious few results. As soon as they reach a conclusion on how to meet PC hiring standards while getting competent help they’ll have an answer.

when I retired, after a few years of honey doing and boredom in general without an office and reason to get brain working in the morning….I decided to go substitute teach….took 8 months to get “qualified” and approved, as you could not speak to anyone, you had to send and email for them to reply to which they rarely did…sent in tons of forms and they did fingerprinting and FBI background checking and took photo….but they insisted on a college transcript…which I had already sent them a xerox copy of from my files…but, NO, they had to have an official transcript sent to THEM by my college, not through me to them…so I finally found a person in my college administration….who said, after I paid the fees…that since I graduated in 1963, that my class records were not digitized and on line like more recent ones….I guess we were supposed to die….so they had to go to the archive paper stacks…find my records…and then actually enter the data manually into the digitized record form, and eventually send an OFFICIAL copy to the school district….now mind you, they were despirate for substitute teachers, as they need 800 subs a day and more on Monday and Friday, and they are always 200 short per day of filling the need…but, they took all that time to qualify the records of an educated, lawful, competent guy who can teach any subject except dance in the High School…as I have done since this bureaucracy got finalized.

Computers were supposed to be the solution to paperwork. They are now the curse of humanity and the job security of bureaucrat knuckledraggers.

Yeah, like how I went to the USDA with an MBA and worked under, or despite, the supervision of one of a boss’s wife and, later, a set of EEO hires who all had high school diplomas. I had to provide ‘official’ transcripts from my under grad and grad schools only to be told later that they’d only be used IF a job I was applying for required some specific courses I’d taken or a graduate degree.
The supervisor’s job required three or four very specific courses at a local community college which, in some strange quirk of fate, the boss’s wife took in the months before the job was announced. That and the perfusion of minority upper echelon who’d graduated from what one NGO college rating service rated as the ‘worst’ college in the US goes a long way to explaining the problems.

VA’s primary purpose is employing, at goodly salaries, high level GS and SES employees in jobs they couldn’t hope to ever get i the civilian world.
I had a discussion with a VA underdirector today (returning my call of days ago) wherein I questioned what I considered unprofessional actions at a VA center. His response was basically “Eat **** and die, unworthy vet scum, I am a senior VA bureaucrat and you are unworthy! Bwaaahaaahaaa!” OK, I exaggerated a little but you get the idea.
I’m in favor of giving the vet chits which give him the choice of the VA or private care…let the VA produce or perish. As they fail sell off the facilities to private operators.

Urology had all they could handle and
farmed me out through Veterans Choice
to a civilian Urology group, located at a
large hospital, at least for our part of the

desire to see me again. We’re both happy. 😉

Thanks but I know about these. I have real quality medical care, I just went for the hearing aid from the VA as Medicare doesn’t cover them and I wanted a ‘tactical’ one for outside work. I figured the VA’s would fill that bill without my having to lay out a wad of cash.
The military didn’t issue hearing protection for use in shooting or other hi-impact noise situations until well into the 80s, I can remember spending a day on the range in ’99 without hearing protection being issued. I had my own so it wasn’t much of an issue.
Hearing loss is so common among vets that the VA no longer gives a disability unless you’re almost stone deaf and even then it’s minimal. Think of some 13 years worth of vets from the GWOT who were in combat and couldn’t use hearing protection… no wonder the VA’s telling them to get screwed…again.

Madison tweeted an apology late Monday, writing “Apologies to Sarah H. Sanders for the ill-judged joke tweeted Fri, deleted this AM. This is Tucker Carlson’s full show from last night. He had several really good interviews. One was with a pediatrician who says all this transgender talk with young children is child abuse and she gets very specific with what’s wrong. Another one is his interview with Dem. Congressman David Cicilline about the new direction of the Dem Party. I have to warn that the interview with him had a lot of raised voices and talking over each other, but my laughter drowned most of that out. LOL
