Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has been diagnosed with brain cancer, the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix said Wednesday.
The tumor was discovered after the senior Arizona senator underwent a minor procedure last week to remove a blood clot from above his left eye.
“Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot,” the hospital said in a statement.
“The Senator and his family are reviewing further treatment options with his Mayo Clinic care team. Treatment options may include a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.”
I believe this is the same type of cancer that Senator Edward Kennedy eventually died of.

Sorry for his condition. Just thinking about the normal hard working Americans that are stuck with the medical system he would not come close to getting for himself or his family. Furthermore he could not care less, just as many current sitting Senators and Congressmen can not get out of Washington fast enough for vacation to dump the ACA on the very folks that paid his salary and benefits for years.

I had to block some people on Twitter. All I said was even though I don’t agree with McCain most of the time, I would not wish this diagnosis on anyone. Holy cow, the hate and vitriol was amazing. I know all about his short comings including his military service. I too, am a vet and I despise what he did. I still will not ever wish death on anyone. This cancer that he has is truly evil. I watched a dear friend fight and lose this battle. I am just not sure any more if we, as a country, can get past the overwhelming hate that is present at this time in history. It makes me sad.

I remember when Ted Kennedy died. I also remember that most on the right were not dancing in the streets, but praying for the family, and expressing our condolences, yet too many were celebrating. The Right-wing is certainly not all Christian. It was certainly eye-opening for me. And I don’t mean to sound pious or anything like that. I’m anything but.

I truly understand your emotional outrage against the man as he has conducted himself and his power in our government. I might even feel some of that outrage too. Cancer is a hateful way to suffer and then to die. No one EVER deserves that ending of a life….it is not a decision made or a sentence given…it is a body destroying cell eating pain ridden pathetic path of exiting this world. I do not know what he deserves, but my Lord knows, and will take care of that soon enough. Frankly, I have never put a lot of stock in karma, because a lot of bad things happen to folks that seemingly did not deserve them, and that would be the other end of a karma spectum. For me…..I choose not to bother my good life and happy days in resentment and hatred of a man who means nothing to me personally, and whose life never directly came in contact with me. John McCain will live out his life as God wills it.

How many of those POWs who died miserable ends in camps from a WWII through Virtnam deserved their deaths? At the very least they deserved to have their abandonment and deaths acknowledged as a direct result of diplomatic needs.

Agree with stella, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
He needs to resign his Senate seat immediately. He and his family need every moment from now on to deal with this, fully and completely. The cancer is extremely aggressive. His time is best spent with his loved ones, and with taking stock of his life–getting his house in order.
I wish them the best at this difficult time.

Cancer of the brain is terrible. McCain has been fortunate to have lived a very long time, with a high debree of personal wealth and comfort to make it work easily for him. Now he faces a highly likely terminal situation, with some serious discomfort, and potential loss of quality of life as he continues toward death. I dispise the man personally. I hate cancer more. I am glad he had many years that he was without cancer.
My son discovered he had a brain tumor while he was an Air Force Col commanding an Air Force Group in Germany, and had to be rushed to Bethesda…where the Air Force incredible medical team removed a malignant brain tumor….hours and hours of very touchy high tech surgery, while his mother and I and his wife waited in prayer and despair….and it came back and he had to have another brain surgery, and he went max on chemo for months of agony, and is now in remission with only a small vision issue that has not destroyed his life as he would never wanted to be a burden on anyone else, or to be unable to function as a man.
I know brain cancer….he was only 42 at the time….and had served his country in the USAF for 20 years of faithful full duty never pushing a desk…and an active pilot until this stopped all pilot activity on the spot. He had to retire, and now, unlike a rich John McCain, and without his comfort and family to support his and a nation prepared to make a hero out of a cancer victim….he lives a quiet life of serving others and living an American life.
So John, sorry for your tragedy…..but many others have worse situations, and you have not done very much to make THEIR lives any better. You will get to deal with it like all the rest of the world when facing death. Lord have mercy on your soul.

Col, that was what I was thinking. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, but how many veterans would be able to escape the VA and get treated at Mayo? Worse, how many vets have died of cancer simply because the VA wouldn’t do their job and see them for check ups about the headache and blurred vision in a timely fashion?
I’m sorry this happened to him. But I echo joshua’s sentiment too. This has happened to others and McCain has been no help to them.

Yeah, I read that. I’m still on a VA jag, just got a call that even after I told the VA I wasn’t interested in leaving my real docs and letting them assume my primary care they’d scheduled me for a consult for something I already have a real doctor dealing with.
Even if he chose D.C. he could use Walter Reed, he wouldn’t have some doc who’d graduated from one of those pay-for-play Caribbean medical/veterinarian/air conditioning repair and was practicing on vets to get the time he needed to pass his boards. I don’t begrudge him the best treatment he can get but every vet should have the same access.

Said elsewhere that this is not something one would ever even wish on their worse enemy, Just feel that this probably has a lot to do with a lot of his bizarre behavior over the last several years.

Karma is BS. Every day I get out of bed with maybe a 50-50 shot at having bad things happen to me. Of course I can dang sure up the odds by doing risky, dangerous, or stupid stuff. It isn’t tethered to my actions, good or bad. Babies get cancer. Democrats win the lottery.
To believe in karma is just the hipper, new ageier version of the Prosperity Gospel.
Humans apparently still have a primal inner cave man that throws incense in his fires and carves goddesses for protection from the harsh world waiting at the cave opening, then feeling sure the dinosaur will eat the guy in the next cave over who went to bed without proper diligence.
