    I can’t find the album at all. The band was Churchill. I bought the eponymous album for myself, and burned it for a half-dozen friends. It’s gone from online.

    It was an incredible album.

        I love how most of the people in the ads for Grammarly are black.

        I wish they would make a Truth version of the ads.

        “I use Grammarly because my teachers always gave me good grades because they said ‘Those people are black! They can’t be taught to speak or write correct English!’, and so I had to pay for a third party to actually teach me! Grammarly! Doing the job Public Schools can’t do, because they’re racist Democrats!”

        The older I get the more it amazes me that people don’t see the evidence of God, both logically, and in the evidence of this world, the beauty of this world.

        Only thing I can figure out is that, as I once was, they are looking for a big boom of thunder and a voice from the heavens.

      I was awakened by really-close thunderclap. I was up, blankets flying, saying “OK! I’m up! I’m awake!” at 0600. Didn’t get any lightning photos, but WOW that was a close strike. Instant adrenaline rush. Didn’t need the coffee.

        After about two weeks of rain and thunderstorms every day we are supposed to get sun today and tomorrow. Yesterday was a beautiful day too. I won’t hold my breath.

        It’s a good thing I like rain and love foggy mornings. Even so, I’m ready for sunshine.

          I put my traditional yellow/black raincoat on, and rode my bike around town at 0610, looking for lightning vistas. No luck, got all sorts of wet, but it’s better than coffee. Yes, I’m a morning person, too. In town, everyone you meet in the morning is also a morning person, and after ten years, chances are you know them, and have chatted with them before.

          Were any of the T-storms full of that beautiful lightning? No rain yet, or rain just passed, and wonderfully photogenic strikes, across the sky or cloud-to ground? Or just that crazy “I ain’t going outside for anything” kind of lightning?

      I don’t agree that things started in America with the 1930’s. However, that is when all the Bauhaus crowd fled to here and got teaching jobs. As the author notes, the concepts of what has become known as socialism goes back to the earliest writings in Western civilization.

        I’d say it’s a fair claim that in the mid to late thirties the socialist movement within the United States realized their agenda couldn’t be promoted directly through the electorate so they shifted focus towards education. It took decades but worked.

          In the late 1870’s the socialist movement within the United States is who started the progressive education that we have today. Although, just as with almost every large socialist effort, the focus changes as the leaders of the various groups die off and are replaced. Originally it was to get education away from churches, home, and under government control under the guise of local communities.

      Whittaker Chambers in his autobiographical book, “Witness”, asserted that in the 1920s the Soviets targeted three American institutions for infiltration: education, media, and unelected government positions.
      They were wildly successful and have never been routed out. To my mind, that is the source of leftist control of education, media, and the “Deep State”.
      They have tremendous influence. If you’re not “educated”, they claim you are ignorant. A post in my Facebook feed today pointed out that Rachel Maddow has degrees in Poli Sci and Communications from prestigious universities, while Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity are college dropouts, therefore people should listen to the educated and ignore the ignorant.

        I think it it’s a mistake to focus on one group of socialists from Russia/Prussia that grew impatient and became violent to overthrow their country in the first part of the 20th century when trying to pinpoint an origin to the current situation. It ignores that the socialist groups were here in the colonies and the efforts they made after the American revolution.
        The Soviet agents and sympathizers from the late 1920’s and on to today were only successful due to the inroads made by the efforts of the prior 100+ years in the US. From the secret societies, universities and book clubs prior to the French revolution to standing at street corners on soap boxes preaching collectivism in the mid 1800’s. It’s a constantly repeating scam to gain power and wealth for the people running the scheme.
        The article is the first I’ve read in a while that points out that the tenets of socialism have been around for a couple of thousand years at the least.

          It’s a good article, but fails to point out that, “Thou shalt not steal” (1500 B.C.) implies property rights.

          A nuance to that, though, is that in the Law of Moses rural land could only be owned for a maximum of 50 years, at which time (the year of Jubilee) it was divided up equally and given to the people by lottery. The new owners would manage it as they saw fit until the next Jubilee. They could sell it, but the buyers knew they would have to relinquish it at the next Jubilee, so as Jubilee approached, land prices declined proportionately.

          The elites today find it impossible to believe that learning and knowledge don’t always come from Ivy League universities. And wisdom almost never does. I don’t think they even think about or comprehend the concept of wisdom or prudence though.

      I once had to take a car load of pre teen boys to that concert. Where I embarrassed my son by going to get security and bitching at them to make the people around us quit smoking pot. Which they flat refused to do. It was bitter cold, in the teens, and I had the flu, but it was my son’s birthday present, and I had promised.

      On the way home the boys started talking about what their dads would do if they came home with earrings. One said his dad would yell a lot, another that he’d be grounded forever. My son said “My dad would just yank it out.” I smiled and felt a little better.

        When my brother was in high school, he had very long hair down his back, almost to his waist, which my father hated. The school suspended him until he cut it and my father went down to the school and stood up for him (even though he hated the hair). The school let him back in.

        Bravo to your husband for instilling such respect in your sons.

        I was raised with no curfew, really no rules so it took me a while to figure a whole lot of things. Not too much good can come from leaving your 16 year old daughter home alone while you go up to the cabin especially if the 16 year old knows where your hash, pot and acid is hidden.

          When I was a teenager there were almost no boundaries for me either. Indeed, my mother even assisted in some risky behaviors. I look back now and wonder that I made it through.

            Do you know the story of how Father Michael Scanlan found his way in life? He was raised by a mother who had left the Church but demanded that he be a faithful Catholic, his step-father was extremely anti-catholic. Eventually Scanlan went to university and he wavered in his faith as it was attacked daily by his professors.

            Scanlan went to the woods and climbed a tree and told God that he wasn’t coming down until he was convinced that there was a personal God, a God interested in Mike. After about 12 hours Scanlan felt the conviction of God. When he told the story personally he would glow with love and say it was such a strong conviction, such an all encompassing love that he would sooner deny that the earth was under his feet than deny there was a god. He didn’t decide right there and then to be a priest but he did rededicate himself to his faith. the second time he felt the presence of God so strongly he knew he was called to be a priest.

        They remind me of my summer visits to see grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Kansas when I was a kid. They were exotic and awesome to me, big a pie plates.

        There are some in two fields near here but they only get about half as big.

        My grandfather grew them and I would go and pick seeds straight out of the flowers. I have always thought they are beautiful but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a field of them in the real world.

          There were a few years in Dearborn, Michigan where there were fields of sunflowers on Ford Motor Company property, even surrounding Ford World Headquarters–allegedly to get agricultural tax breaks. Don’t know if the flowers or seeds got any actual use for I recall seeing the dried out stalks standing in the fields later in the year. Never saw them in full bloom though. which would have been spectacular & unusual in that Suburban Detroit setting.

              Hi Stella, I went to your link…Thanks for the great info! Item #4 is the location where my dad’s last office stood, in I believe what was called the Triple E building. My dad retired (early retirement incentive) when my firstborn was a nursing baby, in the early 90s. After 9/11 that building was allegedly used for staging some type of urban warfare scenarios before being torn down completely.

              Just down the road is where my son’s primary care doctor is–an Amazing Practitioner who has an entire practice dedicated to special needs kids & families. I cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Susan Youngs!!! Here is a link about her & their practice:

            Neat. My grandfather just had a small garden with maybe 10 – 20 sunflowers. We lived in a two flat in Chicago he was upstairs and my family lived downstairs, one of my first memories is looking up at those massive sunflowers and the smell of the garden.

              Awesome. I recall the smell of lilacs, they used to grow outside my childhood bedroom window before my mother (for some unknown reason) dug them out, as very early memories. I still absolutely love lilacs, one of my favorite scents…& even wrote about some of our transplanting endeavors (I’m not any type of gardener but do love historical flowers!) here:

              On our recent trip to Gaylord I never worked up the nerve or the timing to approach the business &/or residence with a lilac bush growing on the bisecting alley, where over Memorial Day Weekend my husband discovered the deepest purple lilacs. We hope to get permission to dig out a couple of small starts to transplant downstate (I’ve already got the spots picked out). Perhaps we’ll follow up on this endeavor if we get Up North again this year.

              One of the main reasons that I have been transplanting lilacs from our historical family locations is because of the connections to my forbears. There’s something about the act of giving/perpetuating life that is inspiring. Those smells are so strongly associated with memories (per psychology) that I hope your own familial memories associated with sunflowers are “Lovely” ones (pun not exactly intended!). Blessings…

                I have a huge lilac that needs cutting back. It was a gift from my daughter’s neighbor, who dug it up in Door County, WI. It was a tiny little stick when I planted it in 2001. Now it’s between 15-20 feet tall, and just as wide!

                  Sounds like our original Gaylord transplants to downstate. They were possibly decades old surviving in the sandy soil & harsh climate near my parents’ Arbutus Beach Cottage, but once planted at home they reach nearly to our second story windows after a number of years. One of those bushes was even moved again because our neighbors requested that we get it further away from the property line.

                  I’m hoping to keep the “bushes” recently planted in the front yard, currently twigs like you described, from getting out of control by judiciously harvesting flowers & cutting them back as they grow…but we’ll see. I understand the roots/rhizomes? can be pretty invasive so they likely bear watching…

                Yes my memories of my grandfathers garden are lovely 😊.

                I read your blog post, such roots come in historical flowers! I’ve been to Michigan but it was a long time ago, I remember it was beautiful.

                My friend has lilacs and some other flowers that have been passed down and replanted from her grandmothers farm.

                I am unfortunately a failed gardener. My mom on the other hand can grow anything.

                  My mom’s birth mother apparently loved to fool around in the dirt as does my mom. My mom’s adoptive parents were very self-sufficient gardners until so elderly they went into adult foster care. The used to grow & can many vegetables & even made “cherry herring” or Kiyafah (spelling?) a type of Finnish wine in their lake cottage that became their home in retirement. That playing in the dirt gene skipped my generation but may be somewhat ressurected in my daughter–I hope.

                  I would love to find more historical flowers, preferably in the vicinity of our family’s Hunting Shack in the North Woods of Michigan. Especially desirable would be roses planted by some enterprising homesteader of yesteryear…as they would probably smell amazing! We have some such older style roses around our home, that look & smell awesome (unlike so many roses you buy from florists, look great but virtually no smell)…but boy do some of them have major amounts of thorns!

                  Michigan is actually quite a beautiful state, especially away from the major population centers. It has A Lot of Natural Beauty, but perhaps somewhat more understated than places boasting majestic mountains or stunning ocean views.

                  Where do you call home, and what do you love about that region, if you don’t mind me asking?

                    I’m in South Eastern WI (Waukesha) but I have lived all over the states. I love the change of seasons I notice it the most driving country roads down to Illinois, I watch the landscape change the animals come and go the time of the year that a certain roundish tree makes a perfect circle shadow underneath it when the sun is in just the right place.

                    I like the old barns and small towns and the people.

                    Lily of the Valley is my favorite flower and abundant here although I don’t have any. That is another scent that brings me back to my childhood and spending the summers in Northern Illinois.

                    Oh! And lakes I love water anywhere 😊.

                    Beautifully said!…I really relate to everything you’ve shared here. My mother-in-law died before I even met my husband, but she was an artist & apparently loved to wander country roads, especially on a Sunday drive, looking for those timeworn picturesque old barns to paint. Whenever we see an especially decrepit with high character barn I’ll ask my husband if it looks like one his mom would have liked. It helps me feel just a bit close to her in trying to grasp some of her interests & tastes.

                    We lived in Northern Michigan for about 5 years in our early marriage & my husband worked in the oil & gas field supply industry. His job required him to become extremely familiar with most of the two lane highways & many “two tracks” into the woods of most of the upper counties of the lower peninsula. He will speak fondly of some of those roads, & occasionally show me some favorite byways when are privileged to spend any time Up North. He especially enjoyed watching sunrises & sunsets and the changing of the seasons (though he ironically hates snow & cold). Northern Michigan is especially beautiful when covered in that glorious, light refracting blanket of snow (especially compared to the too-soon slushified dirty version of snow cover as quickly overtakes the Metro Detroit area, at least near the roads).

                    Whenever I travel the North Woods, whether by car or on foot, I have this peaceful sense that I have come home…& that’s as close as this “stranger in a strange land” is likely to feel to home this side of paradise!

                    Small towns & people seem to contain so much of the rich character & uniqueness that makes up this crazy, mixed-up, glorious tapestry that is our beautiful, bountiful, blessed United States of America!

                    I believe it is a Japanese Flower Lantern ? The reply spaces run out because they get too narrow and WP seems to be on a permanent glitch in showing the red dot in the bell. Sometimes it is there for a few seconds and then disappears. Whatchagonnado?

    For those who are still having issues with advertisements I have been informed of a new add-on for Firefox and Chrome that is working wonders. It’s called uBlock Origin. The only issue I’ve had with it so far is that it’s such an aggressive adblocker that I had to disable it on iHeartRadio last night because it was the only thing I could think of that was interfering with my computer’s ability to load podcasts. I am wondering if going forward I will be able to turn it back on over there but if not, oh well. I can live with iHeart’s ads. It works fine here at stella’s place.

          Actually I am told by the Very Hysterical Media that Trump sends out tweets in the very early morning. So apparently when he can’t sleep he skips the warm milk and drives the MSM insane. (Probably sleeps like a baby when he’s done too!)

          I love watching the MSM go into hysterics over Trump’s tweets. I know a lot of liberals who whine about it but I don’t care. The Very Fake News brigade is getting what they deserve. Besides, it’s not like they were going to be fair reporters anyway. They’re probably just upset that he uses Twitter and that makes them have to work harder on misquoting him.

          I did not. I had it, gave it away, and they broke up, and apparently there were legal troubles, and it seems it’s been deleted from the innertubes. I won’t search torrents, either, for ethical reasons, and viriiphobic reasons.

          It was one album, and I only found it when Grooveshark still existed, before they got sued out of that existence. I discovered them when they had one song make it big on Sirius/XM’s channel “The Spectrum” and “Alt Nation”, both of which are a great source for discovering new music, with their song Change.

          Just like George Michael, their record label wanted them to become something else, and they said “**** ***, we ain’t doing it.” I could also understand if there was an intra-band romantic dispute. The female lead is really pretty. 🙂
