1785 Congress unanimously resolves US currency named “dollar” & adopts decimal coinage

1924 First photo sent experimentally across Atlantic by radio, US-England. The most popular “Transatlantic Picture” in google seems to focus on Alfred Hitchcock’s Transatlantic Pictures” movie company. I did run across an interesting story about Marconi, though: ” On December 12, 1901 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Marconi raised a kite with an antenna dangling from it. He sought to prove that radio waves could cross the Atlantic. Through that hanging wire he heard the anticipated signal from across the ocean. 1944 World’s largest circus tent catches fire at Ringling Brother’s – Barnum & Bailey 2nd performance, 168 die (Hartford Conn) Was one of the worst fire disasters in the history of the US. The fire occurred during an afternoon performance of the  that was attended by 6,000 to 8,000 people. 167 people died[1] and more than 700 were injured. http://tinyurl.com/y8d569f7

    I’d never heard the entire Who’s on First routine before, though I had heard snatches of it when I was little – I remember my grandfather laughing until tears rolled down his cheeks, and now I know why. Every day there was a baseball game, he sat in the booth in the kitchen he’d built and listen to the games after his retirement from the Chicago Northwestern RR. I sure do miss him.
