I’ve always preferred warm watermelon to cold watermelon. I’m sure it comes from my childhood days of sneaking into my poppa’s watermelon patch and busting open a watermelon still on the vine. The only thing was we weren’t that good at picking the ripe ones and usually busted open more than a few. Of course that didn’t make him too happy. lol

He’d always tell us he was going to tan our hide, he never did, but he did dust our britches a time or two. 🙂

My husband used to work with a guy from New York years ago. He invited him to dinner last minute once, so I didn’t change what we were having for dinner and one of the sides was fried green tomatoes. He asked what it was and when I told him he asked why anyone would do that and that he would never be able to understand our food.
He finally lived here long enough to learn to like it, we saw him a few years ago at a little drive-in by the race track and he had ordered fried green tomatoes. I gave him a hard time about it and he laughed and told about visiting family and making them fried green tomatoes and they thought we had given him brain damage. 🙂

I would love that! It’s so exciting to me to get to try out new recipes from another country and people. Two of my family’s most loved recipes are a Czech bread that I cook usually around the holidays and aebleskivers, which we have at family gatherings throughout the year. I have a ball cooking them, and it’s really fun to hear each person jockeying for me to use their favorite filling for the next batch, as the pan only makes 7 at a time.

I used to have a recipe for a Greek lemon soup but I lost it. It sure was good.

I made 50 perogies yesterday. That is absolutely the most labor-and-time-intensive thing on our prep list. Three of us did it. Chef boiled them all, I made the dough, boiling peeled potatoes first, mashing them, kneaded it and rolled it out, after cutting the lump of dough into 8 pieces. Got about 6 out of each piece once you roll it thin enough, making a complete mess of the prep table with flour. Cut them with a plastic container lid, and give them to the guy scooping the filling into them. Then boil and refrigerate them on sheet trays.

I hope they charge 20 bucks for this appetizer, which consists of three sauteed perogies and a dollop of sour cream, because it’s insane how much work goes into them.

You have to make the filling from scratch, too. Sugar, ricotta cheese, etc.

Chef absolutely hates the fact that these are on the menu. After yesterday, I understand. It’s not worth it, for the business. And they don’t even have much flavor. I did learn more about using a wooden rolling pin to great effect, though. And how to make the dough. Easy. And that the more you knead the dough, the more the glutens make it like a giant ball of rubber. Baking is not cooking. It’s advanced cooking, and chemistry, and physics.

I need to get my blender out again. About 4 years ago I was into making smoothies.

        Here’s what I did:

Orange or apple juice in the blender.

Fistful of baby spinach and some kale.

        1/4 cup of honey.

        Baby carrots, fistful.

        Ice cubes or:

Frozen random fruit. Peaches, bananas, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries.

You can even throw some mushrooms in there. You won’t taste them. The sweetness of your base and your fruits overrides all the yucky veggie flavors. And yet, you still get their nutrients. Throw in a half cup of whey protein and you have a meal.

If you’re thinking of coming to NOLA there’s a new trick in the thug’s book. Second case has been documented of the thugs sneaking up behind their target, slugging said target very hard on the side of the head and further pummeling the now dazed if not unconscious target before going thru the crime statistic’s pockets.
Now that we have all of these security cameras we get great videos of thugs and thugettes beating/robbing/shooting/mugging their prey, and to the newscasters great relief they no longer have to mouth the thugs descriptions, they just blithely show the videos.
No word yet as to if this thugging slugging is a new technique or if the Trump administration has made it harder for thugs to get those SBA loans to buy a gun and hoodie. Guess I’ll watch to see if the Wash Post starts running stories on how Trump’s stymieing innercity small business growth.

In NOLA we had one of the main drainage canals going to the pumps right in our back yard. Back in the early 90s we had a flood that dumped some 21 inches of rain in 24 hours and we watched the canal overflow and creep into the den in the rear of our house. Managed to keep up with it but still lost flooring. While we were replacing wallboard we noticed the ‘hi-water line’ from hurricane Betsy about 18 inches up the wall, figured we were lucky. Bleach will be your friend.
Then there was Katrina…that’s why we moved to a hill 125 feet above sea level.

Seen on Facebook. I think you’ll really like this one:

This is a true–and very satisfying–story from my friend Demitrius Antonis, and shared with his permission. Let it be a lesson and a model for us all:

Recently, I was in San Diego visiting my daughter who attends USD Law School. She resides in a condo complex where many USD students live. One afternoon we were in the parking garage elevator heading up to our condo. We got to the next floor, the door opened and a twenty-something Saudi student dressed in the traditional thobe gets on the elevator. This particular student happened to be the nephew of a “royal Wahabi prince”. I was on one side of the elevator and my daughter was on the other side, as Wahabi Jr. stepped in. He had no idea we were together. My daughter is a stunningly beautiful young woman, thanks to her mother. My instincts told me that something dramatic was about to go down. Sure enough this Wahabi camel jockey turned to my daughter and said something extremely crass to her. I immediately stopped the elevator at the next floor and asked my daughter to step out and wait. I closed the door and stopped the elevator between floors. He asked me what I was doing. I got directly in his face and let him know that was my daughter that he made the comment to. He instantly went from “uber privileged tough guy” to “I just shit my pants guy.” I told him that he had a choice on how this was going to end. 1. You get on your knees and beg forgiveness from my daughter, or 2. We reenact the Battle of Thermopylae right here on the elevator and what’s left of you will be shipped to your family wrapped in bacon…And the best thing, I’m actually a real Spartan. My daughter got back on the elevator and he quickly fell to his knees and said he was sorry. As the door opened he ran off trailed by the smell of 1000 camel’s assholes. — Demitrius Antonis

Lots of good stuff on Facebook this morning:

Forbes on Medicaid expansion in Ohio by Kasich: “Although Kasich has urged other states to follow his lead, his unilateral expansion should instead serve as a warning sign to other states. When he first proposed expanding Medicaid under Obamacare, the Kasich administration predicted just 365,000 able-bodied adults would sign up in the first year, with that population growing to 447,000 by 2020.

But within seven months, the program had already exceeded its first-year projections. Altogether, more than 650,000 able-bodied adults have been added to Kasich’s unilateral Medicaid expansion. That skyrocketing enrollment has led to major budget overruns for Ohio.

The Kasich administration initially projected Obamacare expansion would cost taxpayers $3.9 billion between January 2014 and January 2016. But in reality, Ohio’s Medicaid expansion has cost taxpayers $6.8 billion so far, meaning the expansion has already run $2.9 billion over budget.”

    – “As a result of these exploding costs, Medicaid now consumes more than half of Ohio’s entire general fund operating budget, leaving less funding for public safety, education and other critical priorities.”

    – Cost overruns in Kasich’s Medicaid expansion also mean fewer resources for the most vulnerable. Tens of thousands of children and adults with developmental disabilities are languishing on Medicaid waiting lists, unable to receive needed services.

Instead of working to reduce these waiting lists, state budgeters are forced instead to find funding to keep Kasich’s Medicaid expansion afloat. Funds that could have and should have gone to the truly needy will now go to pay for 650,000 able-bodied adults to receive welfare.

More from FB on health insurance:

I’m not sure why this is so hard to understand. Obamacare mandates that every US citizen must BUY something they may or may not need. Even though Chief Justice Roberts had to twist himself in knots and sell out the constitution to opine that wasn’t a total affront to our basic, our BASIC liberty, anyone who understands liberty, knows that.

So when Congress repeals the mandate – that forces you to buy something you don’t want, there will be many, many citizens who – gratefully – won’t buy it anymore. Does that mean they are “uninsured?” Well, duh. But it doesn’t mean something is being TAKEN from them. They are CHOOSING what they want.

And more importantly, if the choices they are now presented with are more appealing they just may decide the price of the product is worth it.

This insanity – “thousands of people will die” – is not just a lie, it’s a damnable lie because the statists who are the Democrat party don’t want liberty. They want and need control and to pad the pockets of their paymasters. The terrible truth is that far to many free born citizens cheer this on and willingly sign up for these poseurs to run every aspect of their lives. I do not understand.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Here’s Pennsylvania inclusiveness for you, a main course on goat as a main course: http://extension.psu.edu/courses/meat-goat/marketing/marketing-lamb-and-goat-for-holidays/islamic-holidays
Might be a viable product as it would appeal to a pan-religious consumer base of Moslem, Latino and baa-curious others, buffering it from capricious markets.
    I’m going to bed.
