Interesting timing on that picture!. Just finished watching Dr. Strange in high def. There are a lot of scenes where buildings in motion defy the laws of physics; your picture made me look hard to make sense like the scenes in the movie did.
I enjoy the photography that challenges architectural norms, and this one sure does. Quite beautiful, stella.
You are a wonderful and RESOURCEFUL photography maven – the History Tidbits are made so much more by your excellent selection and addition of the pictures you insert.

Funny thing… the day after tomorrow is my Friday.
The slow kid dish/prep with no experience get to work on Fri and Sat night. I’m scheduled on all the other nights, including a double on Sunday.
Why does Chef put the newbie with no knowledge of the arcane arts of mise en place and Le System “D” on the schedule on the busiest nights of the week, in the heat of summer? Because he’s got knives almost as old as me.
And the owner is a genius, too, for allowing Chef to do this.
Put those kids in on the busy nights — they’re stronger, faster, and blank slates. They don’t stand around, because they can’t. On slow days, like tonight, they’d be standing around when the FOH is almost empty. Not degreasing and scrubbing floors by hand, cleaning baseboards, floor drains, prep table legs, hauling furniture, and attempting to make the place photogenic, if not telegenic. No knowledge of health department codes, no knowledge of business and profit and loss, no focus nor knowledge of why focus is important. On slow days, the boss incurs a loss with these hires, because they stop working and start using their phones.
What they both realize (the bossmen) is that the busy shifts are what taught me, and them, and eventually how to employ all of the above effectively, and that those shifts with the pros will teach the newbies. I’ll be working 8 shifts a week for the next month, and hopefully we’ll all be able to train some former dips**ts to dig this job. Don’t give them an opportunity to use their phones, or to even go to the bathroom.
Everyone working this industry is either a dips**t or a former dips**t. The long-timers are the latter.
If I were more of a bad mo-fo, I would love to be hired to do nothing for a shift but stand there and issue orders and motivational insults like R. Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket to these Gen-Z tykes. I could impart some know-know to these little punks. So could Chef. So could the best line cook in town and his nephew.
“Where you from, boy?!!”

If I spend time thinking about what I am typing and thinking and wish to convey very quickly with no pauses and hurry up and type things then it doesn’t do that!

The great thing about the song is that it’s a tribute to hard work.’
Yes, his above-first-world complaints are the result of his hard work.
It’s his own fault. Many blues songs do that. Complain and make money doing it, while complaining about how your high monetary status gives you so many troubles.
Another example of this exact formula was done by The Eagles’ Joe Walsh, masterfully:
Woe is me. It’s all my fault. Trump could write blues like this.

I was trying to intoducing the Jimmy pun in concert with the one-T-buffet but…..
We were hired to do security at his Margaritaville venue years ago when it opened in the Quarter..contractor who hired us still hasn’t paid us. By now the contractor should owe us, with interest and penalties, enough to pay off the farm.
Thought I’d give that a second to sink in…”why”, one might ask, “would a contractor hire deputies to do afterhours security, not pay them and get away with it?”. Well, oneveould answer, because the contractors who owned the company were politically connected members of NOPD and to push the issue through the department or try to go through the courts would have created more problems than it resolved. See how the city works?
At least we got some good food, great seats for the show and some nice, stiff drinks after it was over.

President Trump is walking into the Lion’s Den at WCTC in WI. It is full of Left Wing Loons, I may even know some of the folks who get arrested. The dinner itself is $1000.00 a plate so at least the loons won’t splurge for that. But I expect there will be protestors screeching all around campus. Hmmm…. I wonder if they between the Spring session and the Summer session, that would help keep the noise down.
Also WCTC is in Pewaukee WI not Waukesha but all the articles say it is in Waukesha for some reason.

I think the Rats want their party alone to be the one who does the impeachment as a show of solidarity and strength. Nothing like a regicide to show the opposition how powerful and fearsome you be.

WSU Grad Student creates first of its kind, detailed, precinct level voting map
http://pullmanradio.com/wsu-grad-student-creates-first-of-its-kind-detailed-precinct-level-voting-map/
http://rynerohla.com/index.html/election-maps/2016-presidential-general-election-maps/
A Washington State University graduate student has created what’s believed to be the first of its kind election map that details voting down to the neighborhood. Economics student and cartographer Ryne Rohla compiled voting data from 175,000 precincts from last Fall’s presidential election. Rohla’s detailed interactive map probes deeper than just red and blue states and reveals deep red and deep blue precincts. The deeper the red, the more people voted for Republican Donald Trump. The deepest blue on the map locates Democrat Hillary Clinton’s strongest support.
Rohla’s map reveals the nation’s intensifying split between Republican rural America and the Democratic strongholds in the cities. His research also discovered that the outer suburbs shifted more Republican last Fall voting more like rural areas. The map also reveals clusters of 3rd party support in college towns. For instance, Green Party candidate Jill Stein performed well near Western Washington University and the University of Oregon. While on the other end of the spectrum, Libertarian Gary Johnson did best near the University of Idaho and Eastern Washington University…
ADD: The WSU student did all this work on his own time and with no aid or outside funding. He plans to use the data in 2 of his 3 doctoral papers at WSU.

Much of the remote, rural part of the state that is not accessible by road (aka “the bush”) is dependent on federal welfare and votes accordingly. Of those that lean conservative in those areas, many are strong supporters of RINO Senator Murkowsky, who was a staunch neverTrumper. Though she’d like you to forget that now that he’s won. I’m proud to see my area, the Kenai Peninsula, is bright red.

Wow. It would be fun to make an image of this map with the blue and red reversed, where the whole country looks blue, and show it to progs, and ask them if Hilary should have won. When they jump up and down and say “OMG heck yes!”, switch to this one and say, “Okay, just kidding, here’s the actual map… What do you say, now?”
That would be a priceless moment.

A history prof once told me that most wars throughout history were urban cultures against non-urban cultures. The non-urbanites wanted city goods while the urbanites wanted the rural resources. Just now with the I-5 and I-95 strip cities promoting the idea of rural Southerners and rural Westerners as being violent, brutish, uncivilized louts worthy only of the elite’s justified racism.
The red areas don’t matter in a democracy, they represent dirt and not population. Look at NY and CA, premier liberal/prog centers, with more red than blue. This battle is progressing to a point where it will be ballot versus bullet, and I don’t limit the bullet part to the red areas, those blues are importing a lot of immigrants who would be mighty glad to help their feeders and handlers shift the red/blue numbers.

And you wonder why the Rats want to van gun ownership by other than trusted Rat minions?
How many Americans in modern cities would put up with a Stalingrad situation? I saw Katrina close up and pockets of locals who formed protection groups but that was only for two months. The city cut utilities and access to food as they could but there were still ways to get out, buy goods and get back in, the city – even with military help – couldn’t create a leak-free cordon. The city had to bring back utilities and basic necessities as soon as possible to prevent a collapse of the city and begin reconstruction. Had the city and Feds have kept up the blockade of utilities and sealed the ingress/egress breaks things would have been quite different.

demographic movement creates the substance behind voter as well as consumer mapped locations….shifting around especially in volatile neighborhoods and areas of the nation. Cannot rely for long on historical demographics with the present movements and reactions to increased newcomers and foreigners moving in and out and the loss of businesses and employment serving neighborhoods….when we start building infrastructure fixes…it will REALLY change as well. Analysis of past actions and preferences are not very reliable…much like polling depends on statistical analysis of small segments of opinion.

The Rats are far more proficient with everything from technology to utilizing imported ringers to build their base. Let’s not forget the Soros plans to load the purple areas with dependent immigrants to swing them blue for 2018. Trump’s election may have slowed things but let’s also not forget the little reported full-court press by the governor of
Puerto RICO and potentate of D.C. to have their respective fiefdoms become the 56th and 57th states. More on Mueller shenanigans:
Robert Mueller Stocks Staff with Democrat Donors

One of the hires, Jeannie Rhee, also worked as a lawyer for the Clinton Foundation and helped persuade a federal judge to block a conservative activist’s attempts to force Bill and Hillary Clinton to answer questions under oath about operations of the family-run charity.
…
James Quarles, who worked on the Watergate investigation as a young prosecutor, has an even longer history of supporting Democratic politicians. He gave $1,300 to Obama in 2007 and $2,300 in 2008. He also gave $2,700 to Clinton last year.
…
Andrew Weissmann, a former Justice Department lawyer who now is at Jenner & Block, contributed $2,300 to Obama in 2008 and $2,000 to the DNC Services Corp. in 2006. Weissmann served as chief of the Justice Department’s criminal fraud section and worked on the Enron fraud case.
A fourth lawyer on Mueller’s staff, Michael Dreeben, donated $1,000 to Clinton 2006 and $250 to Obama in both 2007 and 2008. He was deputy solicitor general and has appeared many times before the Supreme Court.

That was my guess also. Blanket Immunity. Federal Immunity is for the birds (some of you may know what the Feebies call it but I won’t post it on Stella’s blog.
My thought was that Comey was fishing for Blanket Immunity but I guess there is the possibility that he has already been granted immunity. The only thing it would not insulate him against is perjury going forward. “I could be wrong” was not Comeyesque and struck me as odd but if he already has immunity that would be a nice catch-all phrase to tag onto every sentence.
Interesting thought.

Sir Roger Scruton has been highlighting this degeneracy for a long time, and had paid for it with his enforced career outside the ‘academia’. Thankfully he flourished outside it, and is now leading a proper MA in Philosophy at University of Buckingham, the only private university with Royal Charter, which is now 1st in student satisfaction. The rotted edifice of left-wing non-sense is starting to crumble, although it will take a while before it does fall down due to decades of unmitigated domination. I pray for the day when students finally get back to studying the real disciplines, in the rich tradition of our Western, Greco-Roman, Judeo-Christian heritage.
Indeed, and so do I.

The photo at the top of this thread is from the library at Ephesus. Google “Ephesus library images” and you’ll see it. I remember taking (more or less) the same photo when I was there a couple of years ago.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Towering inferno: Screaming residents build ropes from sheets and lean out windows as huge fire at West London tower block engulfs the 27-floor building with 200 firefighters struggling to control the blaze
Terror or a less nefarious disaster?

“Don’t mention the slum word”
Where residents of Grenfell Tower were recently terrified by an 18 day long power surge that could have caused a fire disaster akin to Lakanal House and had the very real potential to have burnt us all to death..
Where the seriousness of this danger to residents was hushed up by a TMO report to the Scrutiny Committee that denies fire risk and claims smoke was caused by steam rising from a hot surface!
