I spent a day at Lindisfarne once. It is near where my hubby grew up. That place is magic, and the history is very interesting. Here’s a photo of the old priory, or what’s left of it. The castle is in ruins as well. There is a small village of fishermen and daily a crowd of tourists. I think the population is 180. Most of the island is owned by the Historical Trust.

I was just reading up on Lindisfarne and can’t imagine how much energy has been laid there, but there can not be a doubt it is a magical place. These standing walls in your picture send me right to the romantic conception of the medieval era that we see in so many movies these days. Not sure I would have wanted to live there in the 6th century, but I sure wish I’d a chance to visit it then!

Such a classic movie that is. Sure doesn’t have the same ring to say “Anna and the King of Thailand” does it? The re-colorizing of the film gives it a hand oil painted photograph of yesteryear that somehow adds some nostalgia that in this case seems in keeping.

Excellent post, pp and Stella!
I went to the link on the first Porsche hoping to see a photo, but was disappointed. My dad bought a brand new Porsche direct at the factory in Stuttgart in 1956 when we were stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Paid $1800 for it. A white Speedster with camel leather seats and a black convertible top. So incredibly cool! I’d give just about anything to still have that car!
