This is very good news. As you all probably know I think Comey is a political genius, he has in the past used the excuse that certain questions were out of bounds because they were “classified” to avoid answering questions that would be uncomfortable and unveil the ruse that Hillary is just stupid but not corrupt and that Russiagate is a big nothing burger, Comey has now refused in writing to answer bi-partisan questions claiming that as a private citizen he has no legal impetus or requirement to answer such questions. This is as close to pleading the 5th as Comey will get, but it is just as cleary of an admission of guilt in my opinion.

    http://circa.com/politics/accountability/former-fbi-director-james-comey-refuses-to-answer-senate-judiciary-committee-questions

    Here are the questions;

And remember President Trump is a shrewd judge of people, he finds opponent’s weak spots and gives nicknames meant to get under their skin and to define that person to the public “Little Marco” “Low energy Jeb” “Crazy Bernie” “Crooked Hillary” “Lyin’ Ted” and “Pocahontas”.

President Trump nick named Comey “Nut Job” for a reason, Comey is now out to prove he is not a nut job. Look for Comey to get uncomfortable on Thursday.

A really important topic. Biscuits. Video with recipe included, although they add sugar, and I wouldn’t be caught dead putting sugar in my biscuits or cornbread. It would cause a genuine revolt among my guys. I make square biscuits too, because if you put your biscuits in a square or rectangular pan, instead of on a cookie sheet, they will rise up instead of out. Just that change made my biscuits better, and they were pretty darned good before. Also, I like lard better than butter.

First summer after we married my husband took me to his grandmother’s house to learn how to make biscuits and gravy. That woman could cook! The kind of good ole southern cooking that you can’t find much anymore.

I use lard in my biscuits as well and no sugar, but I make them round, I just don’t roll them out and form them by hand as I found it makes them more tender. My aunt taught me to do that when I was young and told her my biscuits were tough.

I do put sugar in my cornbread though when I don’t just open a box of Jiffy.

my wife puts sugar in cornbread….I consider it Heresy…cornbread is crusty and on the salty side if anything….merely needs butter….use it to put under blackeyed peas with “pot liquour juice”….can be used to make cornbread dressing….which is complex is creation as my mother made it as her househelp taught her to make it growing up in the Big Thicket country of Eastern Texas.

Cornbread, requires a aged, well seasoned, black skillet and a hot as heck heat to get the outside crust made when batter is poured in….then it goes into the oven to bake.

          Cornbread….is a religion, not a food….

Cornbread is even better than Rock and Roll Music.

Mine doesn’t taste sweet because I don’t put much sugar in it, a couple of teaspoons for a normal pan of cornbread or a tablespoon for a large pan. Something else passed on from my family. My great aunt used to say it wasn’t southern cornbread without sugar and she wouldn’t make northern cornbread. lol I don’t know if it was southern or just Arkansas cornbread. 🙂

I don’t really know for sure, it’s one of those things that’s how it’s always been done, so it’s the way I do it. I do know I prefer it that way and can tell a difference.

I just always laugh at the south vs the north and whose opinion it is. I have an aunt who moved up north early in her marriage and have listened to her and other family members many times over the years arguing over everything from beans and cornbread to potato salad on whether it was cooked the southern way or northern way. lol

any grocer that specializes in Hispanic (Mexican) food products will sell real lard….usually in about a number 3 washtub full size…used to make everything they eat…refried beans, tortillas, fajitas….you name it…..I think they bless their food with the Lard’s Prayer.

I just buy whatever the store has. I haven’t noticed any difference from one brand to another. And I quit rolling my biscuits out too. I flour my hands and lightly shape them. But the best thing has been using the square pan. Simple change, big difference.

Lard is just rendered pork fat, so you could just buy a piece of fresh pork with lots of fat showing, cut off all the fat, chop it up and fry it up until very crisp. Drain the fat, cool it, and you have lard. Salt the crispy bits lightly for crispy numminess.

Look up some ‘rendering lard’ youtube vid’s (snow white lard) and then go talk to your butcher. It’s easy to make and will last years in the freezer. The *cracklin’s* are just a bonus. It’s all we use in the cast iron cookware.

My Grandpa taught me how to make bisquits! He worked day shift at the cotton mill, Nanny worked nights. He would get up every monring, make bisquits for the kids breakfast, and wrap up extras in waxed paper for their lunch.

This was during the Great Depression. He earned $.75 per week for 60 hours, and raised 4 kids on it. He made the best bisquits in the world, and my Nanny would get her “Beauty Sleep”, lol.

I had the sweetest Grandparents in the world. They taught me a lot about making do with very little. I miss them very much!

And he used lard that He and the neighbors made themselves every Autumn.

Sugar in biscuits?? Ew. Who would do that? Must be somma them damn Yankees!

My grandmother cooked pretty much everything with lard. Bought it in 5 gallon buckets. For biscuits she used “leaf” lard, which is lighter and comes from around the hog’s kidneys.

How do you make square biscuits? Do you have a square biscuit cutter? Or use a knife? I’ve always made round ones, but lay them very close together so they are all touching, which helps rising up instead of out.

I had a great pic of Tripod’s friend, Miss Kitty, but I can’t find it on my Photonbucket.

A couple of years back, I visited my folks in FL over Christmas and New Years. I tasked my neighbor with feeding him, and gave her the 9 Lives in a big bag. Whenever I called her from FL, she said she hadn’t seen him. When I got back, two weeks later, I wrote him off. Half a week after I got back, early January, the lady who works next door came up and knocked on my window — “Wooly! I Found him!”

He had been trapped in the store for almost three weeks. No food. A dripping pipe in the corner of the basement for water is probably the only reason he is still alive. He was emaciated and hissing at us from behind a furnace when we found him.

Miss Kitty disappeared when he did, and never returned. My landlady said, after we found him, after 8 years, “Okay, you can let him in now.” because she has a beating heart.

Tripod is like me. He’s still here… for some reason.

She isn’t. This picture is amazing. She never let anyone touch her, ever. One winter day, she realized why her friend Tripod liked to sit on my lap when I was out smoking a cigarette. She came close enough for me to snatch her up and placer her on my lap. Then she understood. I miss her, too.

Some Michigan companies are ‘turning away work’ as 100K jobs go unfilled

    http://www.mlive.com/business/index.ssf/2017/06/some_michigan_companies_are_tu.html

The 100,000 estimate for open jobs comes in part from openings posted on the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website, which on May 31 listed 97,766 jobs available. Many of those positions represent skilled or management positions across a range of industries, leaving other hourly and part-time jobs uncounted.

Monthly employment data for Michigan released in late May showed an overall unemployment rate for the state of 3.7 percent. That compares to 4.5 percent a year earlier, when 81,000 fewer people were in the labor force – meaning that 94,000 more Michiganders were employed this spring.

The regional unemployment numbers range from a low of 2.2 percent in Ann Arbor, 2.4 percent in Grand Rapids and 2.9 percent in Lansing to 6.7 percent in Northeast Lower Michigan and 5.8 percent in the Upper Peninsula.
