Amazing photo. I didn’t get this article until after work tonight (via Ace), but it’s an old one and brings back memories of 2004, when war was actually protest-worthy to the Left.

    https://www.steynonline.com/6368/happy-memorial-day

I wonder how Lynndie England is doing these days, after she took over three hundred different staged photos in a few hours, in one tiny event where nobody was even actually tortured, and sent them all to the NYT? She and her buddy requested this MOS. And the newspapers ran one new photo every day, of this tiny, staged event, for almost an entire year, above the fold.

Every year, on Memorial Day, we should also, in addition to decorating graves, be burning giant bonfires with the big newspapers.

Life imitating sarcasm: needed to call the military personnel service office on an item involving my disability pay. Now this is an office which specifically handles this matter so the question should have been easy to answer. After a one hour and ten minute wait on hold I got my answer…call another office from a different branch of the military.
New branch called, only a ten minute wait (workers obviously ended discussions of what I did over the three-dater’ early) they took my question, fielded it (remember, this is what thry are specifically tasked to do) and came to the conclusion that they don’t know. I should send everything I have, even though it makes no sense, and if they need more they’ll let me know.
So, the workers solely tasked to manage this one small portion of the disability program have no knowledge of the specific law covering this case (not a rare case either) and no idea of what paperwork’s required.

      • An hour and ten minutes!?! D: czar, I would have blown a gasket. And then to not get any answers either. I’m sorry.

actually it ain’t that unusual when contacting VA or DoD activities that deal with VA related issues. It’s the first day back after a 3-dayer so you can expect a lot of the people who didn’t extend it into a 4-dayer by taking off Friday took off Tuesday. Then you have the back-at-work-after-a-3-dayer malaise. That probably added about 30 minutes to what would normally be about a 40 minute wait.

Not a thing on there looks like any fakery to me either, Wooly. Video of the Month for May, says my vote. Thanks.

Oh, trust me, I definitely subscribed! Looking forward to checking them out when, again, I find a lull.

I suspect body memory and mindset have allowed them to subconsciously come up with some kind of fast measurements of weight, distance, angle, etc. to build a mental referential library. Makes me wonder if any of them are engineers!

Somehow, I suspect there aren’t so many retakes for shots as it might seem at first glance. I’m sure they don’t do it right every time, but my money’s on a darn good skillset.

This is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. It lampoons the culture which created Trayvon and Mike Brown, and has such pointed messages in it that the Wayans Brothers actually look through the “fourth wall” and say “Message!!” while grinning.

I know quite a few blacks that have been profoundly influenced by this movie. It doesn’t celebrate black culture as much as it destroys it.

This is happening more and more in middle and high schools. Often the teacher is blamed no matter what the circumstances.
Next time you wonder why there is a shortage of teachers, think about this. This is exactly why so many teachers are retiring as early as they can or going to other jobs.
Many subs will NOT sub in Middle or High Schools.
What is really interesting is that if minimum wage is upped in some states, beginning teacher salaries after 5-6 years of college will be less than burger flippers. Heck in some states substitutes who need at least a BA or BS don’t earn $15 an hour and put up with more crap than regular teachers do.(I am a sub and was a teacher).

From the article: “Let’s hope the school — and the boy’s parents — do the right thing and give the boy some much-needed discipline.”

This kid is way past discipline, and I am going to throw something out there. This is NOT to absolve this Yapp kid, butI suspect his dad modeled that behavior. That he’s a dojo doesn’t mean he’s a good dojo. This kid might just be passing on the behavior he’s learned is acceptable, now that he’s got the muscles and the DI scream. His bullying tactics are refined and he’s very, dangerously, aggressive.

His behavior isn’t likely to be the one-off of good parenting. I wish the parents would be held accountable when their offspring do such things.

Unfortunately, we all know responsibility and accountability are meaningless terms to a generation of parents, as well as our current generation of youth. The world is going to get extremely ugly in the not-to-distant future.

The crap that passes for potting soil these days works great as they under-compost it – and leave lots of wood chips on it, lots like gorest floor. You can find out what dining amenities your particular mushroom likes and amend the soil accordingly. Remember, these things live alone in the woods, don’t overdo the growing, they do great on their own.

      Fascinating. Reminds me of mushrooms.

Specifically John Cage, a former atheist who had to change his tune (heh) after he attempted to create truly random, indeterminate music, and then became one of the world’s foremost amateur mycologists. He noted that if he had applied the same techniques to mushroom hunting, he’d have died within a month of starting.

        That was fascinating.

Not surprising that the bigger, less dense stars produce a low-freq chaotic waveform, and the smaller, more dense stars a high-pitch, tightly-controlled waveform. Like piano strings, or guitar strings. Or kittens vs. alpha lions, for that matter.

None of this is an accident. If it was all truly random, there would be no beauty, and everything would look like static on an old television, and sound like it too. Just like John Cage’s indeterminate “music” experiments, it would be ugly and nonsensical.

Mathematics certainly plays its part. I’ve always been a big fan of the Fibonacci Sequence. The number of things Fibonacci underpins just boggles the mind. Nautilus shells, the geometric unwinding of embedded sunflower seeds, the Golden Mean.

I’ve felt sorry for some people when I’ve tried to explain the Fi sequence and its significance. I may be doing it badly, but they never seem to get the bottom line, which is… God.

It can only be God’s work. It’s a little new-agey, but this “Sacred Geometry” is the site I’ve come up with that gets to the Creation part and avoids math overload. It’s truly incredible, this Fibonacci Sequence. http://www.spiraloflight.com/ls_sacred.html

Wooly, I believe what you are speaking of in terms of music – the mathematical relationships between everything and everything else – everything is energy, soundwaves have a shape and they are either resonant or dissonant. Without the right mathematical formulas, music is ugly and nonsensical. So are a lot of other things.

          Order vs. Chaos.

Help. My computer is making a beep-boop (sort of) sound. I thought it was something I am doing, but it isn’t. I remember a long time ago there was a sound that I didn’t recognize and it was AIM or something. But, I don’t have AIM.

From your speakers, or coming from within the case itself, like the beep when you turn it on?

This program is recommended in the thread:

      http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

I’ve been having the same problem for the last week or so, and I’ve been wondering why. I have an external USB wireless adapter with antennas on it, and I only ever get the “disconnect” sound “Beep-boop”, and never the “connect” sound “boop-Beep”. Seems to happen at random times.

Thx Wooly, but I don’t know what to do with that. I contacted the Geek Squad and was told to turn off the things in the thought bubble at the bottom right of this screen. Only problem is, I don’t know what those things are, so I am afraid to turn them off. Sometimes things quit working and I don’t know how to make them work again. 😦

Me, neither, but it looks like it monitors USB connections and disconnects, so I think you could use it to figure out what device was just disconnected (or caused that sound) at 4:16 PM today, for instance. That would at least narrow down which device is randomly disconnecting.

But I just chin up, carry on, and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, just to be sure.

The Geek Squad did some work just before this started, so I figured it was probably a switch that got turned on that wasn’t on before. 🙄

I’ll be prepping and doing dish again on Thursday.

I understand. I wish there were a key on my keyboard, that, if I depressed it, my PC would tell me exactly why my hard-drive-running light is active and why exactly my hard drive is running like a maniac. Why is it doing that? What is it doing?

I have no way of knowing.

Who knows? When my salad guy is over on the line making something on the six-burner, I can turn my head and ask, “Hey. What are you doing?” and get an answer. When my HD light is blinking like a crazy person’s eyes, there is actually no way for me to figure out just what reading, writing, and processing is taking place. I just have to look askance at my PC and say, “Okay, you’re doing something. I hope it’s not something bad.”

As a serious response: it may be a USB device not plugged in fully or going to sleep and waking back up. If you are comfortable, you may try turning everything off, unplugging anything and everything, (if it’s a notebook take out the battery) then count to 20 before reversing the process and finally turning the system back on. If it’s still doing it, there is a long process of elimination that could be done, but I’m not sure taking up the daily thread would work for that.

That’s why I mentioned my bluetooth wireless speaker. It makes that noise when the laptop goes to sleep.

Most of the modern notebooks have the Bluetooth hardware tied to the system via the USB bus. I’ve had Bluetooth mice be put to sleep due to a power saving setting in Windows and had to make some policy or regerstry change to get it to stop.

Found an article on HuffPo that actually compliments vets and – best sit down here – Gen Flynn. Seems this good stuff was one of the Gen’s ideas.

“In 2010, Army Maj. Gen. Michael Flynn (yes, that Michael Flynn), then a senior intelligence officer in Afghanistan, wrote a stinging critique of the military’s failure to collect and act on information about the local drivers of violence and insurgent influence. “Lethal targeting alone will not help U.S. and allied forces win in Afghanistan,” he wrote.

These guys are going in and doing the “hearts and minds” in terrorist territories, both before and after the troops are there.

Of course, HuffPo demands more gov $$$, but these guys are finding their cash in Silicon Valley and other places. No wonder Obama fired Gen Flynn.

Perhaps the good Gen is best off on the outside. My bitcoin is on the vets and the Lord.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
