Once again New Orleans unleashed its Weapon of Mass Distraction today, a huge party/fest designed to fight violence (a George Carlin play on words there). The Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club through its yearly bash to end violence – as many years as it’s been going on you’d think we’d be seeing some change – and we’ll see starting tomorrow if it’s successful. Beer bets?
With so many newbies and natives needing fuel for their denial…and a city that would find a way to have a party to celebrate Armageddon…lots of good words were spouted, good food eaten and booze quaffed. The press repirted on it as if the violence that old in 1980 when we moved in was new and can be remedied by just a few more social programs, some free stuff and more forbearance by the civilized prey the thugs feed off of. Thank heavens it’s over for another year.

Many moobs ago black residents established these social aid and pleasure clubs to help the black community before there was welfare. Also provided social functions when most city functions were still segregated. Zilu is about the oldest and is the largest and most influential one in the city, many black pols and business owners belong.
If you watch Mardi Gras you see, on Lundi Gras, you see the King of Zulu meeting Rex at the riverfront and, on Mardi Gras day, the first and equal-in-stature-to-Rex parade is the Zulu parade as it meanders diwn its toute. It features the black members in blackface and cartoonish ‘African’ costumes. Featured throw is the much sought after coconut. They spend months beforehand decorating coconuts and ‘throwing’ them out. Actually, due to liability concerns, the city made them stop throwing them to the crowd, they now havevto hand them out.
Yeah, I’m disappointed their approach seems to be to try and help the residents feel vetter about the endless violence than actually get down to the nitty-gritty causes but then thst violence is too deeply entwined in the city’s social, political and business fabric to be picked out. Think Chicago.

To be fair, I have a “social aid and pleasure club” to “help” me “when there is no welfare”, too.

Worked thirteen hours there yesterday. I can see the blood vessels through the one layer of dermis on my fingertips today. All ten look like little red balloons. Needless to say, I won’t be playing my steel-string today. Ahem.

I trained a new guy on dish yesterday. Never worked a kitchen in his life. Just a barely-out-of-HS kid. His job experience is a factory assembling weed-trimmers. And we started him on the busiest day so far since we opened… brunch and dinner on Mothers Day. Trial by fire. He rocked it like a pro. That’s rare, in my experience. And he never got frustrated, not once. I hope he comes back to the social aid and pleasure club this afternoon.

Taught him the culinary concept of mise en place, and how it also applies to every job you will ever work, and even every hobby you will ever engage in, and how it relates to economy of movement. All your tools should be in easy and appropriate reach, and available at all times. Work hard, work smart, work fast. He absorbed it all.

          /rant off

I get to go back to my Social Aid and Pleasure Club in about 3 hours. And I hope they send me home, so my fingers can regrow. I could crack a safe right now. 😀

Hope you all had a wonderful Mothers Day.

Wind turbines are neither clean nor green and they provide zero global energy
We urgently need to stop the ecological posturing and invest in gas and nuclear

    https://www.spectator.co.uk/2017/05/wind-turbines-are-neither-clean-nor-green-and-they-provide-zero-global-energy/#

The Global Wind Energy Council recently released its latest report, excitedly boasting that ‘the proliferation of wind energy into the global power market continues at a furious pace, after it was revealed that more than 54 gigawatts of clean renewable wind power was installed across the global market last year’.

You may have got the impression from announcements like that, and from the obligatory pictures of wind turbines in any BBC story or airport advert about energy, that wind power is making a big contribution to world energy today. You would be wrong. Its contribution is still, after decades — nay centuries — of development, trivial to the point of irrelevance.

Here’s a quiz; no conferring. To the nearest whole number, what percentage of the world’s energy consumption was supplied by wind power in 2014, the last year for which there are reliable figures? Was it 20 per cent, 10 per cent or 5 per cent? None of the above: it was 0 per cent. That is to say, to the nearest whole number, there is still no wind power on Earth.

No kidding! I never thought about this; thanks for the post, Stella! Just goes to prove that, like all other “green” hoopla, windfarms are as corrupt and hoodwinky. I wonder how many birds on the protected wildlife they kill every year.

BTW, an 18-wheeler transporting one of those 130-footish blades parked on the freeway onramp we use. You don’t appreciate the size of those blades until you stand next to one, an amazing expenditure of engineering and money for naught.

I’m old enough to remember when we knew all of that ten years ago. Twenty.

It’s always been a chimera. And a slaughterer of endangered migratory birds.

What is it about the Left that they support the very things that kill what they love? You know, like the “environment” or migratory birds, or gays thrown off rooftops? Mental illness is all I can chalk it up to.

I do like Elon Musk’s home solar roofing idea, though. Probably a lefty, but his ideas are solid. As ICs and microchips get vastly more powerful, so do photovoltaic cells and panels. For the same reasons. (People using science, and not just Loving It Sexually, for engineering and manufacturing and not just virtue-signaling.)

Yet, it also suffers the same fate as wind power, in the sense that the sun is not always shining, nor is the wind always blowing. The coal, natural gas, and uranium rods are always burning. Yes, there’s Fukushima, but chalk that up to “don’t build a house on sand”. Yeah, you’re on the “ring of fire”, geologically speaking. Probably not a good place to build a nuke plant.

The wristwatch industry has had self-winding watches for decades.

Why can’t my cell phone have that tech in it, recharging the battery with every step I take, coupled with my USB shoes?

This is not a rare event; if you click my link, you’ll see.

And the .gov-subsidized fraudsters that built these monstrosities almost never come back to disassemble them. They just rot and fester, making the landscape look like a dystopia, forever.

Remember Enron? That “Green” Energy Company back when “green” was as powerful a word as “hegemonic patriarchy privelege and ‘cis’ are today?” You could put a green leaf on a car logo and BAM it was like Gluten Free! Buy it! It’s virtuous! Then, many years later, A123? And Solyndra? They will never clean up their messes.

I wish I could start a company to scrap and sell the material in these thousands and thousands of defunct turbines.

Al Gore does this every day.

Just a bit of info on that dread infestationer, bedbugs. Some dolt in the apartment building has bedbugs so we (dwellers) are undergoing an inspection today, A couple apartments are getting “preventative” fumigating. We had a resident’s meeting and I want to share some info with my pals here.

Always be careful buying bedding and/or clothing at the thrift stores, and be careful handing them. Apparently they are an up and coming nexus in spreading the little devils. They don’t fly, they crawl and are always looking for a ride to fresh meat.

If you buy clothing (they’ve always been a favorite of mine for beautiful clothing at a severe discount) or bedding at them, put them in a plastic bag in your car and seal them. As soon as you get home, put them in the dryer on high for minimum 45 minutes before you wash them. Dryer kills em and wash (but we do do that anyway) plays mortician putting the bodies away.

Years ago already busses were having infestation problems – like Greyhound – and from what I understand they’ve begun getting to be a problem on planes, as well.

I’m actually amazed that my Apt of almost ten years has been spared of any insect infestations. It’s not the cleanest bachelor pad in the world. There was a sugar ant problem my first couple of years, but then I stopped brewing my own coffee, because I got it for free at our coffee shop for years, and they disappeared forever.

Every couple of years I see a three inch centipede on my wall, and he sees me and I freak out, and he freaks out and runs like a bundle of serpentine hair, and I throw my shoe at him, and then ruminate on how glad I am that I don’t live down south.

            • When my cousin and I were little, we were playing near the pond at my grandparent’s land in Louisiana. All the sudden my cousin was screaming like nothing I’d ever heard. She had been sitting on a log and I guess when the log moved, it stirred up a fire ant pile that had formed below it. She was literally covered in them. My grandparents came running and got her in the water and stripped her clothes off to get the ants off her. It was horrible. They covered her in calamine lotion, but she was in misery the whole way home, which was a several hour drive. It’s a real blessing she wasn’t allergic to them, but the pain was still really bad. Stuff of nightmares. 😦

Marc was the male head of what is NOLA’s most powerful black political junta and rumor has it there’s no love lost between them. Marc’s been feathering his DC nest for years and it’s gonna be interesting to see how he reacts to the head of the white NOLA Rats slinking into his playground to jumpstart a career. For a diverse and inclusive party I’m not sensing a lotta love there.

    Consortium News https://consortiumnews.com/
    and
    http://raymcgovern.com/

Ray McGovern came right out and said that John Brennan/CIA is probably responsible for the DNC “hack,” and lays out a compelling case. Kudos to Mr. McGovern for not being a Snowden-coward and doing this the correct way. At 9:24, 14:32, 15:04 in the Spreaker clip.

McGovern also made some excellent observations re: Sally Yates’ latest Congressional testimony, although McGovern makes Yates out to be a dupe, which methinks is too far from the truth.

Lead story on tonite’s news: incoherent woman with Bozo the Clown dyed hair babbling about wht we need to save the Confederate monuments (heaven forbid they should pick an articulate person). Second story: black male found shot dead in the median uptown. Third story: court activity around a black male charged with shooting/killing a local rapper. Boy, glad when those monuments are gone and the chirruns are able to get back to their quantum mechanics and rocket science studies.
