I have a coworker that shoots dice at casinos. He’s really good at it. Makes more doing that in one night than working here for the pay period. I can’t understand it. I don’t buy into the lotteries, or gamble, because I have a lot of luck — negative luck — in games of chance. Say I have ten identical keys in my pocket. Invariably, the tenth key I pick fits the lock. If I had ten apples, and was really hungry, and one of them was poisoned, I’d keel over after my first bite.

He says it’s not luck, but technique with that particular game. Wish I had that technique.

So the only scratch tickets I’ve bought were the 30 at once I bought, just for giggles, when I got my first good paycheck in Boston. I was out 28 bucks, in the end. Now, when I get them as Christmas gifts from folks, I give them to other people, because they probably have better luck.

I just keep thinking of Proverbs 31, especially the equals sign in the middle of that equation at verse 10. My uncle was married three times. All three became friends at his end. Or maybe because of his end… (I kid, he was a wonderful man.)

On the drive back to the funeral (three days of camping, per his wishes) after tossing his ashes into Lake Michigan and Rogers Creek, my Mom noted to my dad that he had some of his brother in his hair, and proceeded to brush it out with her hand.

Yes, we laughed. He would have, too. Fire/EMS for 15+ years.

Black humor is cathartic. It’s very Jewish.

women understand Scratch Off really really well…someone told me that instead of marrying one, just buy them a house, give them a million bucks, and live with them for however it lasts before the Scratch Off occurs. who knows for sure. why would women become feminists, they already control over 90% of the wealth in the US, and have 100% of the other commodity whether they wear a pink cap or not…..why would they want to become a man?

Kid can’t even reach the sustain pedal. Give her a stilt, or something. SMH. 😀

I don’t care about the other two useless pedals, or even know what they do, but a piano with no sustain pedal is like a bicycle with the brakes always on. (I don’t always do stupid similes, but when I do, they’re pretty stupid.)

(I think, from memory, that one of the long-neglected pedals is a compressor, of sorts, that mechanically keeps you from making the hammers hit the strings TOO hard, and also makes your key actions hit hard ENOUGH. Like, hold that pedal, instant, no-skill required soft playing, for when The Hulk wants to play pianissimo, but just can’t. The other one, I think, again from memory, long ago, is like a half-sustain, which ends up reverberating the low notes in the high range, while still muting the low notes.)

Nice painting of a piano, Stella! By the looks of it, it’s a 1890s upright, but because the music book, I can’t be sure if it’s a player piano or not.

  7. So I read an article about women who left Europe to go marry ISIS fighters and now that their husbands have been killed they want to return to Europe and get their lives back. They know they’ll have to go to prison once they’re back in civilized society.

Maybe it’s wrong of me to think this way, but these women ran off and married brutal terrorists. That is aiding and abetting as far as I’m concerned. It deserves a bit worse then going to prison (revoking their citizenship is the most basic place to start). I have no sympathy for these women. Maybe I should but to be honest I don’t.

      • It makes me sound terrible, but to honest, I don’t care. Occasionally being stupid gets you killed. What really makes me grind my teeth is I think of all the people ISIS put in cages and set on fire, or drowned in acid. And these dumb broads are afraid and want to come home? Screw that. Lie down with dogs, get up with fleas. They can stay in Syria and rot for all I care.

And what made that story even stranger is that, in the story it came across as though the woman they interviewed would not be trying to come home if her husband was still alive (too bad!) and if ISIS wasn’t losing big these days. I guess it’s not as much fun to be a terrorist’s wife when President Trump might opt to blow you to kingdom come either to retaliate for gassing people or to just to make a point about terrorists in general.

I really wish the old laws were back, and enforced. And I don’t even mean the Mosaic laws, just the secular ones against sedition and treason against the USA.

I mean, is that too much to ask, that if you break these laws, you suffer the by-the-letter consequences of your actions?

Everything would be fixed, and made right, if we started enforcing the law again, and for everyone, not just white straight Christian conservatives. Our society’s ills have exactly that easy a fix. BAM! Fixed.

But no. If you’re not in that narrow category, we’re going to let you off for the twenty-fifth time for dealing crack cocaine in front of an elementary school, to the kids, while carrying an unregistered weapon and having a phone full of World Star™ videos of you and your friends’ “random” beat-downs on white, and only white, people.

Tree and rope needs to experience a resurgence in popularity.

And this goes for white Occupy idiots too.

Kill a police horse with a cinder block — gallows. No more of you… destroy a Denny’s or Chuck E Cheese? No more of you. You go bye bye. Bonus? No more f**ed-up-named kids.

I long for the 1800s. When our society said “NO! Quit it!”

Now? “Do what you people do. We don’t mind.”

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu. We pray for France, and for the safety of Marine Le Pen.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

I’ve squandered my life, I know too much, I’ve seen too much, I’m surrounded by lazy people who know nothing and want to know nothing. I wake, I work my a&& off, like I’m in a time-warp bubble surrounded by people in slow-motion and texting on their phones. I go back to the apartment/prison I’m lucky to have. I drink, I sleep, and wake again to do it all again.

I know. There is, I’m sure. I work. There’s that.

Chef drove over to my apt about 20 minutes ago. Beeped his horn, I walked out, and came down the fire escape. He got out of his car and said, drunk as he usually is after work, and said “Don’t ever do that again, or you’re out of a job. I don’t even want to talk with you.” And got back in his car and drunkenly drove a block home.

Don’t ever lose your cool again. Coming from him, that’s ultra-rich. The guy who snaps on his kitchen once a week, all day long, like a madman.

I sent him a string of texts about losing professionalism in a kitchen. I congratulated him on never losing his cool and bringing the whole kitchen all day. (Sarcasm, I hope he understands it.) I told him how I told the FOH manager if he ever plays like that again, I’m putting in my two-week notice and seeking greener pastures.

So he can issue his ultimatums, and so can I. There isn’t a business in this town that won’t hire me.

Remember, I used to be that guy — who lost his cool every day at work, and brought everyone down, all day. My friend for 10 years has become who I was then.. Today, I snapped, lost it, and broke down.

            For many reasons.

Pray that he understands my texts. Pray that the gangsta dindoos I’m surrounded by decide to leave their cell-phones at home and dedicate their thumbs and minds to the business. That last one will take a lot of faith. Chef is intelligent.

Yes, his problem is that he works way too hard, too many hours, for an owner that doesn’t seem to care as much about the business as a chef and a dishwasher/prep-cook do, and is surrounded by lazy dindoos as employees. I understand his anger. Fully.

I just learned to be uplifting instead of the opposite at work about four years ago. That’s life. You work for a**holes, you work around lazy people with phones in their hands, but you leave all that anger and sadness at home, and work for the business, and — while on the clock — lift everyone’s spirits up, with every motion, action, and — most importantly — every word.

My texts to him tonight might actually get through his thick skull.
