I’m amazed I never heard of her. Like Rachmaninoff said, “Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.”
via Infogalactic:
Dulfer has released nine studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation album. She has performed and recorded songs with musicians including her father Hans Dulfer, Prince, Dave Stewart, Van Morrison, and Maceo Parker, and has performed live with Alan Parsons (1995), Pink Floyd (1990), and Tower of Power (2014).
I must have found her in the YouTube sidebar last night when I cued up Tower of Power. Stunning performance.

How wonderful for you!! Those days are the kind we want to store in a special place in our minds, because they calm, ground, and center, not just for the immediate pleasure but for a sanctuary we can retreat to in our memories. We very much need those sanctuaries in today’s worldly chaos.
Glad you had such a treasure, amwick!

Ooooooh… bass fishing. Used to live in Oklahoma and did a lot of striper fishing below the dams. They fought like the devil. Isn’t it fun having to master the rod and the touch to reel ’em in?
Feeding frenzies are very cool to watch, too.
Can’t find anyone around here that wants to fish – and to be quite honest, I’m not sure I would want to even touch anything that came out of Big Muddy (cause the Mississippi is no longer just about mud) and most of the smaller lakes around here are private ponds.
Thanks for (for me) that bit of nostalgia. Catch a couple for me next time you’re out.

We live on a fake lake. Part of new construction zoning requirements are retention ponds for drainage. It is pretty though, and big fish live there. It is a giant drain, no way would I eat a fish. I walk out the front door and fish right there, just across our street. It is very relaxing.

Oh, yeah, and the smell. Ok, I’ve pursued that imaginary thread as far as I’m comfortable with! The area must have some terrific aspects to overcome that stuff.

I’ve seem fishermen pull monster catfish out of the river both right at the riverside right at the Quarter and down around the grain elevators. To be frank, they don’t look too healthy and the long-time fishermen generally won’t eat them.

I’ll take a gallon of Lydia Pinkham’s Medicine. Liquid, please, and thanks!
“Although her company had humble origins in her own kitchen, by the time the FDA restrained the company’s activities in the early 20th century (the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 forced the company to reveal that the compound contained up to 20% alcohol), the Lydia E. Pinkham Medicine Company was a true multi-national corporation with production centers in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. “Lydia Pinkham Herbal Compound” is still available for sale in pill and liquid form. In the process, Lydia Pinkham changed the lives of thousands of American women by drawing attention to serious female medical issues that were being neglected by mainstream medicine.”

I take the Lydia Pinkham’s in 25 oz. cans. And the “compound” only contains about 5.9% alcohol.
I haven’t had a cold or flu or laryngitis or pneumonia or bronchial pneumonia or bronchitis in almost a decade. I can’t remember the last time I had a fever.
I wonder why? I used to get all those, twice a year each. Many fevers.
I quit drinking about a year ago (maybe two, I dunno), and I got sick. Within two days, it was like I went back in time ten years. I was off the sauce for twelve days. Since that first six-pack after that? I’ve never got sick. I can’t complain.

I can’t help but wobder if the insurance companies got to the POtuS and told him that they’d be his BFF if he pushed a bill that gave them free rein to raise premiums thrunthe roof.
First off, anyone who ever worked insurance knew that forcing companies to accept all people with preexisting conditions and keeping your kids on until they’re almost ready for Medicare would force rates up. Only question was how high how fast.
The other big lie was that this wasn’t an income transfer program. OK, so they said the increase in premium amounts from younger, healthier folks now mandated by law to buy insurance would offset increased costs from the inclusion of people with preexisting conditions. Sure sounds like income transfer to me. Thing the Rats didn’t take into account…or did and ignored it…was that companies had to maintain profits so the HAD to raise premiums.
Let’s also not forget the Medical Industrial Complex. They recognize the opportunity to bill as much as humanly possible with these new patient additions, the billing department’s designed to work with the providers in maximizing income potential. A lot of insurance carriers will react to the increase in billings by hiring new staff, further increasing costs…oh yeah, and tax deductions for operating expenses. And so it gies.
I just can’t help but wonder where those donatiobs covering Barry’s $500-million library are coming from??? Coulda fed a lotta hongry innercity chirruns wid dat monies.

Preexisting conditions. SMH. No one seems to have an issue with older people being charged more, because they are statistically more likely to have issues. No, that makes sense, but bring up pretty existing conditions and all hell breaks loose. Insurance is based on two things, $ and stats. So, at my age, I pay high insurance, but I would take on someone 10 years younger when it comes to fitness.

Another fib…that preexisting conditions are only 2% of the total number of enrollees. That’s another manipulated statistic, note you never hear what the true parameters for determining that number are. I know that our slice of the Federal program, some 36,000 enrollees, had well over 2% preexisting rate and we weren’t exceptional.

The diff with pre-existing conditions this time is that the premium difference will come directly from the government fund (all of us) rather than just those people who are enrolled in the ACA (true income distribution). The hope is that will keep premiums down. Regardless of what you think about covering those with pre-existing conditions, it is a difference.

For the medical industrial complex preexisting conditions are a cash cow. I constantly get entreaties to buy this, that or the other disbetes supplies which ‘are covered by your insurance!’. Reminds me of the local pol who used to own a medical service, he had vans that traveled the innercity roads looking for chirruns to exploit. Not in the expected way though, he’d stop them to see who hadn’t had this, that or the other medical test then drive them over to his clinic where they’d do anything possible thst they could bill Medicaid.
These clinics that milk Medicaid would freely diagnose chirruns wif ADHD and help the parent apply for a child’s disability, locally called ‘crazy money’. So the parents get SSI and the clinic gets to treat the chile – cash cow city.
There’s gotta be a better way to manage the preexisting problem, and given time and Rat proclivities I can see that becoming the government either heavily subsidizing the premiums or putting preexistings on Medicaid.

I heard that one of the seats was originally for their older son, who went on an earlier flight, and they didn’t change the ticket.

That could be. I have been running around today and have to be the door again soon. That would make sense as at one point an airplane employee says that “Marshal” is not on the plane. But that would mean that Marshal flew earlier under somebody else’s name (the 2 year old’s name?) and the dad did pay for the seat that the 2 year old was sitting in. I can’t imagine the couple has a son old enough to fly alone but there could have been other adult family members on a different flight?

Really? Young looking parents and a wide age range of kids for today’s day and age. Still how did Marshal get on a plane without a ticket with his name on it ?
I’ll check back later.

Still not clear, but here is the article:

I read about the original ticket, for an 18 year old named Mason. They just assumed they could use the ticket for the little boy. Not too smart. But then you have to ask how they got through the gate person. Also Delta website suggests using carseats, but the flight attendants contradicted this. Delta said at one point that this was not about overbooking.. IDK I guess I like to hear both sides, nothing is ever cut and dry now a days.

Here is an article I found the family claims a Delta agent told them what they were was fine.
It looks like it is an update on the article you posted.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/family-kicked-off-delta-flight-refusing-give-seat/story?id=47215021
Brian and Brittany Schear of Huntington Beach were returning from Hawaii on a red-eye flight on April 23 with their two toddlers when the disagreement began. The couple says they originally purchased a seat on the flight for their 18-year-old son Mason, but decided later to fly him back to Los Angeles on an earlier flight so they could use the seat for the younger sibling, Grayson, who would be placed in a car seat.
According to the Schear family, a Delta gate agent said that plan would be fine. But things turned ugly once the family took their seats.

Hiya, everyone! I had my 2nd eye operated on Tuesday, and So far, It’s great! I have gone from a -10.75 to 20/20 vision! Both eyes have 20/20, and I can see the computer just fine. I still will need reading glasses to see really close up. Having the cataract removed has also brought back my colour vision, so everything looks so bright and beautiful.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The good Lord made them all.
I can’t express how thankful I am for this blessing of being able to see properly for the first time ever. Even with insurance, it has cost a lot, but it is worth every penny.

All of you who have had the surgery make me anxious for my turn!

I had radial keratotomy many, many years ago. It really messed up my vision. The only thing that will fix it is that surgery, but they won’t do it until my cataracts are ripe. Problem is, they are just starting and growing very very slowly. So, it will be a while, if ever.

I swear, Stella, there was no pain at all! The first one felt sort of itchy for 2 days, but not a lot. The 3 different eyedrops are fiddly, but only one stings a little. Vision with the 1st took 2 days to calm down from lights and halos, but the 2nd was perfect! Don’t be afraid, it is a cinch, and well worth it! I had to go back and look at Tucker’s photos again, his eyes are such a pretty puppy blue. I know it doesn’t last long, but he is one gorgeous boy.

House approves Obamacare repeal bill
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/04/obamacare-repeal-house-vote-decision-237972
The House passed legislation Thursday to repeal and replace Obamacare, as Republicans came closer than ever to realizing their seven-year pledge to overturn the Democratic law and remake health insurance for millions of Americans.
The plan, the American Health Care Act, was approved mostly along partisan lines, 217-213, with just one vote to spare. No Democrats backed the bill, and a slew of Republicans opposed it as well.

Measles outbreak in Minnesota sickens dozens
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/measles-outbreak-minnesota-sickens-dozens/
An outbreak of measles in Minnesota has sickened more than 30 children in recent weeks, primarily in the state’s large Somali-American community, where many parents avoid the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine because of unfounded fears that it causes autism.
“This has nothing to do with being Somali, it has everything to do with being unvaccinated,” Kris Ehresmann, infectious disease director of the Minnesota Department of Health, told CBS Minnesota last week as the number of cases grew.
Somalis are just the latest example of a tight-knit community in which the highly contagious disease has gained a foothold in the U.S. in recent years.
“With Somalis, we know that it’s a community that’s been targeted for misinformation from the anti-vaccine community and so that’s a bit distressing,” she said.
Medical professionals and state health officials are working to contain the virus, but they expect more measles cases in coming weeks. A look at the situation:
Measles outbreak
As of Wednesday, 34 measles cases were confirmed in Minnesota. It’s the largest outbreak in the state since 1990, when 460 people contracted measles and three died.
Nearly everyone infected is unvaccinated, and all but a few are of Somali descent. So far, 11 children have been hospitalized.
The source of the outbreak is unknown, said Ehresmann. But since measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, outbreaks in the U.S. are typically caused when international travelers are infected overseas and bring the virus home.

Stella, you would have enjoyed Ground Zero the other night. Ground Zero is a conspiracy theories show for the truly-true believers.
The host had an M.D. on. They claimed that vaccinations are a population-control mechanism to rid the world of the working class morons who pollute our sacred Mother Earth.
Just buy my vitamins and meal-replacement shakes, as endorsed by this conveniently-same-minded M.D., and all will be right with the world and you will live forever kum-buy-ya.
No UFOs or chupacabras that night, though. Bummer.
Just saw the USS Intrepid post next door. Had a long talk with a CV-11 (Intrepid) Viet Vet today who was also onboard for one of those space capsule recoveries. That guy really loved that old ship. Were it not for listening to these guy’s stories, my VA minder, a Womyn Marine, would’ve been decked by now by this Lady Marine. Mebbe next week…good medicine for all that ales ya.

Here’s a rainy day recipe for you guys. It caught my attention because it has bacon as an ingredient, and bacon as a topping. Looks good.

Monsoon day # 23. I think. I loose count. The sun is shining while the rain eases up a bit. Strong winds headed our way. I think I am going to buy me some rain wear and just put it on when I get up every day.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu. We pray for France, and for the safety of Marine Le Pen.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
