Sorry I didn’t make it back to the thread yesterday. The Seattle PD really have their hands tied due to the city/county leadership.
The only thing I’ve heard different this year is the public schools and local colleges are telling students not to come in that day for safety (read that as the students and faculty have a free pass to spend all day protesting since a “walk-out” during the day is not popular with some parents).
We call the non-emergency line to report stashes of weapons and such when we see them in the back ally a day or two in advance.
I hope the police are able to herd them like last year, but it would be nice if they could just do something non-lethal/entertaining in the beginning without having to worry about the justice department equality division and media reporting.

I read that it was a council member who wanted the streets and airport closed.
In Oakland, during one of their protests a while back, the freeways DID have to be closed b/c of people demonstrating in the road and blocking traffic. Is that a possibility up there?

Sure. The got onto the main N/S freeway once for a short time late at night the first time they tried it. The police have been able to keep them away after that though. You never know what the local black mask nuts are going to try each year.

Demonstration tonite at the Jefferson Davis monument in New Orleans. Pro-monument people were on one side of the street, anti-monument folks on the other. News showed white anti-monument people who looked like they’d just come from a hoity-toity party, white pro-monument folks shown were scrufy, unshaven, mising teeth, wearing gruby baseball hats and waving Confederate battle flags. Most notable thing was that the anti-monument folks interviewed sounded like transplants who haven’t lived here long enough to sound New Orleansish.
Next will be the renaming of streets named after anyone white who lived before 1950.

If you are hitting the usual tourist haunts things should be OK. Things are still not 100% in the Quarter but they have a lot more cops on the street and as long as you don’t wander off into the more residential areas I wouldn’t sweat it. Bourbon Street’s back to being filthy so I wouldn’t wear shoes I wouldn’t be afraid to burn.
Street cars have a longer route, Sanger theater downtown’s getting Broadway touring and some of the old-line restaurants are still open, nice new brewpubs if you’re a custom beer fan. Anyway, beats May in Rwanda..

When we landed there in 2004 an LEO at the airport told us NOLA tried hard to keep the tourists alive – so we stayed where he said stay, and paid local entrepeneurs the requisite $20.00 to watch the car. Wherever. The residential areas off some of the side streets hopefully washed away during Katrina. I couldn’t believe some of that shite was still standing, and with male residents on the porches/what was left of porches.

I’ll never forget getting lost in New Orleans, we were driving a 29 foot Winnebago type thing through the backroads and folks were sitting out on their dilapidated porches drinking afternoon beverages out of bottles held in paper bags. I asked my uncle why they would do that. My aunt said “Because they’re probably crazier than your uncle.” 😏

It was all males we saw on the porches, from what I remember anyhow. Dirty, unshaven, sloven. I remember it seemed so strange, I was 18, and it all seemed surreal to me.

We drove through NOLA back in the 70’s. I thought it was the stinkinest place I had ever been. It almost made me throw up. Then we were detoured off the hwy to a stop light and the vehicle in front of us was a garbage truck……….full of rotting chicken parts which were sliding out under the back of the truck. The driver was standing there picking them up and throwing them back in the truck which was useless because they just kept sliding out. My only connection with NOLA. 🙄

I just don’t remember a lot about it. I know we enjoyed Louisiana and NO. But again I was 18 footloose and fancy free. It was part of a cross country trip and since my aunt and uncle had no problem with my friend and I drinking a lot of the states sort of blend together in my memory.

Pre-Katrina the city had an estimated 30-thousand abandoned housing units. Sheriff would have us go out and board some up each weekend, news took pix and it helped urbanites fuel their denial. Only stopped the crack addicts for a while, they’d go under the house and saw their way in thru the floor or even straight thru the wall.
Katrina washed out most of the projects, Feds dumped mucho money into building new multi-income projects and yuppies started gentrifying the ‘low income’ areas as the city and state found a way to take unrenovated properties from their owners more easily and transfer title to folks who wanted to actually develop them.

Because NOL’s the city that sybarites built. The booze and party culture, the loose laws…all leads to the denial that the city’s still below sea level and still sinking, and another Cat 5 hurricane could swamp it 30 feet deep. People who want to lead that life are constantly in denial right up,to the time the surge hits.

Quite good, city made them clean them and buy newer vehicles. Also have Uber and pedicabs. Hotel concierge usually has a ‘deal’ with a provider and won’t steer you wrong. If younare going to stay at the Marriott on Canal I’d suggest, if you are inclined, to avoid the major-chain hamburger joint next door.

Port-o-call for big, fruity, alcohol filled drinks. Baked potatoes are great there too…but I don’t think they’ve fixed the sidewalk. Central Grocery on Decatur for muffalettas.

Czarina suggests Mandina’s sorta up there on Canal or Liuzza’s just up Canal on Bienville. Both old-line, well established city resturants with food redolent with garlic, butter, olive oil and guilt.

Is the Monteleone still in business? Worst experience is walking into the back streets in the French Quarter on an early Sunday morning during high tourist season…smell of body fluids and garbage to be collected used to be really bad.

Oh yeah, it’s still up and cranking – they have a bar with a lotta special drinks.
We had a cleaning service that not only kept the Quarter clean and unsmelly but also sorayed a perfume that keft it actually smelling sweet. Service owner also got a smartphone app that allowed people to report crime in real time and gave it out to citizens for free, also bought special vehicles for Quarter cops so they could navigate the nsrrow, crowded streets earlier. When his good works went against the mayor who said these things couldn’t be done his contracts were suddenly cancelled. Go figure.

Was jes lookin’ at the weather radar, it’s about an hour west of us and amovin” fast.
I love it when the weatherguessers get on one of these storm marathons, they’ve been on continually for hours. They run out of things to say so they babble on and on and on…
Right now they’re telling al that the flooding we’re seeing along a road in town that parallels the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain is due to a steady south wind and not thecrain. Well now, if you live in NOLA you know that the road floods any timevthere’s a strong south wind, that’s why, decades ago, they built that big levee on the north side of the road. Oh yeah, and the rain’s still an hour out.

After all the fluff and fury, it rained heavily for about 15 minutes, mild rain for about another half hour. Some wind, some lightening and total rainfall of 1.2 inches. Rain fell too fast for a soak-in, drainage into lake raised the level 2 inches or over 1.62-million gallons of water. Slow day, decided to play with math.

worst part is they had to CANCEL their famous First Monday Trade Day operation scheduled for Monday…given no power, water issues, and lots of debris and damage….will be a big financial impact on Canton….that is a Bigly Deal there.

I’m about ready for an end to the storms and rain. Flooding, electric going in and out, cellphones not working, downed trees, lightning strikes all around us, washed out roads and drive, hail denting everything in sight, it’s been so much fun. lol
Flooding looks like it will get worse, as upstream they’re letting our more water than we are, but at least for a day or so the storms and rain are gone.
If all of that isn’t bad enough, the damn sightseers block what roads are open. I thought about pushing them out of the way when I had to go to town. Dummies just have to see and then a good percentage of them end up having to be rescued because they just have to get closer.

If you would like, you may send the rain to Florida. Our little pond/lake is half empty. I live in an apt. complex where they take very good care of the lawns, etc. and the grass is turning brown from not enough water. And, I think the fires are still burning and the sinkholes are falling in. Yes, we need the water.

It has been a miserable few days here. We had already had storms and a tornado touch down not far from us last week, we just got a lot of rain and wind from it and some trees blown over. Then Friday and Saturday night it stormed all night, horrible lightning that kept striking all night and sheets of rain for hours straight, plus hail.
I’m ready for some sunshine, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to get it for awhile.
We only have one way out right now, which I shouldn’t complain some have no way out, but the darn idiots wanting to drive out and see the flooding make me want to blow my top. They seem to see no problem with driving 5 miles an hour and making frequent stops to take pictures, while blocking our only way out.
I don’t know what is so special about this flood, the last two didn’t bring out all these people.
They shut down a major highway about 20 miles from us and the stupid people had to go see, several getting too close and then having to be rescued. I’m not very kind, I would have told them too bad for you and naturally cleansed the gene pool.
Always when they open the dam, idiots ignore the sirens warning them that they’re opening the dam and then they get caught below the dam fishing and have to be rescued, that quadrupled yesterday but from people wanting to see the water be released.

We’re good and can get out and of course if we ever flood then the entire county, if not half the state will be under water.
The lake is still rising, but the dam dumping water in has slowed their release to less than our dam, so hopefully the dam doesn’t break and it will start going down. When I looked earlier today it was one foot below max level, so it likes half a foot to what it was a few years ago.
A few years ago when we flooded twice in the same year they kept calling it the 100 year flood and now they’re still saying that, so I asked someone today how many years does this flood that only happens every 100 years last? lol
The stupid folks always annoy me. We live about 10 miles from the dam and can hear the warning sirens before they open it, yet it never fails someone fishing stays below the dam then has to be rescued and they always have the same excuse, “I didn’t know they were opening the dam, it happened with no warning.”

Chef and I did the FOH tour tonight, turning off lights, ceiling fans, and stereos.
We stood at the freaky spot where I actually ran like hell, and heard old jazz playing.
I didn’t get scared this time. I listened. Last time all I heard was the static. The (this time) trumpet jazz, comes through, randomly and intermittently. Me and Chef identified the culprit speaker. He had turned the stereo off, but not the preamp-switcher or whatever that controls various zones of speakers. Then he turned that off, (never thought to do that before!) and the spooky, intermittent jazz stopped. So, for some reason, the switcher device, even when the amplifier/stereo is OFF is picking up a radio signal.
I don’t know if it’s AM, FM, or shortwave. It’s only two speakers! One in the front of the house, one in the former pool/shuffleboard/darts room. And there are probably more than a dozen speakers connected to that same switcher. Remember that the receiver/radio is OFF. No more Pandora™. No local radio. It’s OFF.
I believe the switcher is picking up actual radio signals, but only on one zone/channel.
Except why would the only two speakers doing this be on opposite sides of the restaurant? Who wires a channel like that?
I’m bringing in a couple of tabletop tube radios tomorrow, to see if I can find the station. Science!

So you’re guessing it’s an accidental fox-hole radio? If the wires are grounded via a misplaced nail or screw close to the receiving / mixer equipment you might have answer to the opposite sides of the restaurant as well.

Chef said that idiots wired it. Yes, they wired one wall-speaker in the front of the house and another in what used to be the billiards room, and assigned it to one of the four zones. The switcher is 4 zones that can be turned on an off independently, the amplifier is just to provide more power than the cruddy AV receiver has to offer, and has no radio in it.
Fox hole radio. Interesting. If I can’t find the station on AM or FM, I don’t know. Shortwave? I’m leaning away from the supernatural explanation now.

I’ll add, it would most likely be in the AM range. You could be picking up anything within a few blocks like a security/janitor hand held transmitter.

Old trumpet jazz last night. Last week it was ragtime. Again, intermittent and not continuous, with static. Like the speaker has about 5 watts powering it, and has to take breaths between bursts of music. I’ll try AM first.

An older (than Chef, anyway) guy was picking stuff out of the buffet with his fingers last week. Chef saw him, alarmed, and said “DUDE! We have utensils for that! Do you know how wrong that is? You’re grabbing mac & cheese with your fingers? Really?”
The guy grumbled at him.
Every kid, before HS graduation, should have to take ServSafe, and pass, in order to get a driver’s license, to vote, to get a bank account, or to be allowed to even be a CUSTOMER at a restaurant.

Did Francis step up to the plate? I reserve judgement, but here is a quote “in support” of peace from Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Amhara. Huh.

Modern Catholicism, at least the popes, has been blinded to the culture of death that is Islam, Islam is not a religion. We as a Church should stand strongly, loudly and unapologetically against the savagery of Islam.
Modern “Can’t we all just get along?” Church;

Finally, in a typical flourish, Francis insisted that real peace is likely to remain elusive without an end to the “proliferation of arms.”

Now, dear readers, you may be aware that I have certain disagreements with Pope Francis’ personal opinions for various reasons, his statements on Islam being among them because, as I hopefully have demonstrated, they are (a) incorrect so far as Catholic teaching is concerned, and (b) set a poor example for fellow Catholics and non-Catholics who see his actions.
The Faith (as always) remains intact.
This man’s personal views are wrong.
An elementary history of the Church shows this. His own predecessors would likely condemn him for heresy on account of his sayings and actions about Islam. Anybody with eyes to read and ears to hear, and who reads works other than by people who cannot cite historical documents (such as Jack Chick) will know the truth, that the Popes were always the greatest warriors against Islam, and it will be a future Pope who will lead the Church into spiritual and physical combat with the Muslims to drive them back to the same lands they came from.

Pope Francis would do justice to his flock, to the world, to human beings, Muslims trapped in a culture of death and barbarism, to remind the world of the reality of Islam. Shame on him for endangering his flock and embracing the wolf, feeding the wolf and inviting the wolf into his flock.
Perhaps Pope Francis who took his name from St. Francis of Assisi believes that like St. Francis he can walk the wolf through the village of children without consequence, if so Pope Francis is sorely disillusioned. One wolf was God’s creation a beast of nature, the wolf devouring Pope Francis’ flock is a beast of will.

My Catholic and Romanian Orthodox friends agree with you and Menagerie, lovely. Not being Catholic, there is no criticism nor approval of the Pope from me. Is not just Catholicism, though.
Last year, the nice little old ladies at Bible study class asked if we could study the Koran the next week, as we were a week ahead of the night class.
Pastor acquiesced. Me, being me, said fine, we shall study the other 3 or 4 books associated with the Koran as well.
The next week’s class was cancelled. Don’t know why. We never have studied the Koran.
Martin Luther would approve, methinks. The Lutheran Synod, not so much. Bunch of bloomin’ id10ts.

I can sort of, ausmom. First, The Qur’an is the central religious text of Islam. Then there are I think 4 or 5 other books, that supposedly were authored by God to various prophets throughout early history, or something.
So, they are kind of the how-to books. One of course was to Mo hamhead, which of course makes him a prophet. (had to correct a typo in the spelling! profit) ha!
Then at some point there was a division, which brought about Sunni v. Shia. One essentially believes the earlier, more brutal day time (like the Old Testament) etc,
And then one of the “books” is essentially based on “sayings of Mo hamhead.
And then there’s another book, that’s like collection of oral traditions. (Maybe this is why they’re still in the 7th Century?!
That’s all I remember from years ago research, which is not necessarily accurate today, with my glass of wine.

Brian Stelter (CNN) said that President Trump’s rally speech was “insidious” and suggested that Trump should wear a First Amendment pin like all the Soros puppets at the WHCD were wearing which was taking place to quote POTUS ”Without the president.”
I am certain that wearing a First Amendment pin will change the hearts, minds and lives of the wearers and they will suddenly become the polar opposite of who they are 🙄. What a display of ignorance and arrogance I’m sure that mess hall was.
PS Mark Dice also said that good ol’ defender of free speech Deray was there. I am so pleased that POTUS stayed away from these idiots.

But he was spot on a lot, too. So was Sam Kinison. I’ve never heard of this guy, because I don’t watch TV, but he was absolutely right, in this instance. Give him credit where credit is due. Neither George nor Sam would have been as nervous as this guy.

Chef gets a vacation. We all demanded that he do so. He hasn’t taken a real day off in more than a year. The rest of us proved last night that we can do it all without him. In fact it was amazingly calm. You know why? Because Chef wasn’t there. He wasn’t there because he was catering for 60 people elsewhere. But it was calmer than usual. No constant stream of invective and verbal complaint. The mood was better, even though the brothers I work with had gangsta rap and modern so-called R&B on the Pandora. That music used to enrage me. For some strange reason it didn’t, yesterday.
I hope he has a restful vacation, and I know that he’ll come back and see that we rocked this joint like professionals.

I lost a few IQ points listening to that garbage, but I didn’t mind. Everyone was happy.
I had the Pandora control today. They like my playlists. too, even though I don’t play their preferred s**t, because I play music like I wash dishes. Make ’em purr.

I refuse to eat in a place with loud or offensive music playing. If I pay, I wish to enjoy. The employees can go home and listen to “their” stuff…..and I get up and find a manager and tell him/her that…I say, “Your food is excellent, and the service good and efficient. But your music is too loud and annoying and makes my dining experience so miserable that I probably will not come back, nor will my friends if I have to listen to this any longer while I finish my meal.” I have about an 85% fix it rate. And if they get mouthy, I ask for my food to be packaged for me to take out, and leave no tip.

We have been just waiting for Dh to visit his neurologist. He may need to have some other treatment, or tests. Perhaps a nerve biopsy. If that happens, we get to go visit Charleston, which could be a nice trip. Not as nice as New Orleans, but still nice.

We had some bad weather, Col., but we’re fine. Canton, TX, which is about 1.5 hours from us had horrible tornadoes yesterday that sadly took lives and destroyed homes. I’ve been kind of busy this weekend and a bit under the weather, but I’m bouncing back. Thank you for asking. Did the rain slow down there?

This guy got fed up and decided to give them a bit of their own medicine.
Screaming, “Hear O Israel, The Lord of Israel is our Lord, the Lord is One,” this may not be teaching a lesson, but it is definitely a unique twist on prayer in a public forum.
