    I’m retired military and will get a disability that is statutorily presumed to be as a result of Vietnam service. As I’m retired the disability will be deducted from my retirement pay for a net monetary gain of zero…BUT, after my disability is approved, I can file to another Federal agency to have them declare it ‘combat related’ as it was due to Vietnam service. Now the law says that as my condition is automatically decided as a disability solely due to my Vietnam service the VA must sign off on it but I must submit another form to another agency to have them certify that I was in Virtnam even though the VA has the proof. This agency will receive the form, go to the same place that officially certified the my service to the VA and say ‘yes, the VA is correct’. At that time they will tell the folks who pay my retirement pay to issue me a refund of monies withheld and begin paying me my full retirement and disability pay.
    The VA’s had my claim since October of last year, originally gave me an expected decision date of December of this year and updated it to October today. This is for them to read two ‘fill in the blank’ VA checklists my doctors completed and read my DD214 where it confirms my Virtnam service. One of my docs said it shouldn’t take them more than two days to read the checklists and agree that the trained, professional, specialist doctors know whst they are talking about…VA is looking at just about a year.
    But wait…after the whole VA mess is over I have to start with the other agency and that can also take months even though they are confirming that the confirmation by the VA is confirmed. See ehy the @&$*=#% DC swamp has to be drained?

      Yep. I can’t remember the last time I saw my DD214. It said, in the section that matters, “Honorable”, for some reason I cannot fathom.

      Trump needs to fire everyone at the VA and make them re-apply for their jobs, like Ronald Reagan did to the air traffic controllers. I’m guessing the VA employs tens of thousands of leeches who need a safe space, and a few good people.

      Prayers for your continued sanity are up, Czar.

        Thing is, ALL of the information the VA needs is available in Federal files but rather than connect to these agencies’ IT systems thry go bsck yo the vet and have the vet go to the agencies to,pull the data.
        There’s a bureaucratic reason for this, each adjudicator has a heavy backlog and each time they get to send a case back to the subject it’s basically out of their ‘things to do’ queue, their backlog’s reduced, it’s not ‘their’ fault, it’s the ‘vet’s’ fault. It’s all a big xxxxxxx game with the vet as the ball.

            I’ve been at the party since I worked VA cases at a Senstor’s office as as an undergrad. WWII vets, in the early 70s, were still trying to get their disabilities settled. Back then the VA was really allowed to bend the vet over a barrel, it was an embarrassment, and it wasn’t unusual for a vet yo die while the process was grinding on and the widow would have to start back at zero to get the survivor’s benefits.
            VA’s become a huge bureaucratic cesspool where vets are secondary to PC employment engineering bureaucrats’ careers.

        The whole government’s like that. A trick question we used to ask civil servants was ‘who do you work for’ and the answer we’d get was the name of the supervisor, “No”, we’d say, “you work for the citizens of this country.” You’d be surprised by the looks we got.

      I am so sorry to hear this… so very sorry. My neighbor in Georgia, a veteran and retired LEO has similar stories about dealing with the Veterans Administration… SMH.

        Back in the late 60s/early 70s the situation was so bad that vets took over VA hospitals and setvice offices to demand they provide at least the badic services mandated by law. Things got a bit better under Reagan but even he couldn’t crack the bureaucracy. Under Clinton there were moves to make the VA part of the public health system, allowing it to service people on Medicaid (can you say ‘illegal immigrants’?) while even more Vets died out on the sidewalk.

          I am a female Veteran from the Viet Nam era and the VA does not know what to do with me. I have been trying for three years with no results. So, I am now and Medicaid (not just for illegals) As of May I will probably lose the Medicaid as I will be getting my first SS check. I will be making about 300 dollars a year over the cut off. Whoopee, back to being uninsured!

            Go and sit in your state Federal Senstor’s office and tell your story, also check with VFW/American Legion to see if their respective veteran’s service officer can help.

              The VFW would not let me join because I am a woman. The said I could join the ladies auxillary. I told them to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine! That was quite a few years ago, but I have a very long memory. My federal Senator’s are a big waste. Maria Cantwell (D) and Patty Murray (D). I may check with the American Legion. Women were not in combat for the most part during Nam, so we do not really get a lot of attention.

                We had a few WACs/WAFs there in ’67 but the Vets Service Officers should help. Another option is Washington Department of Veterans’ Affairs: http://www.dva.wa.gov

                Look at the header, they hsve a women’s division….lean on them, and not in a Bill Withers way.

                    Whst I’m saying is they have a women’s section and most agencies have wonen’s sections staffed by women. Call and see what else they can for you, can’t find out if ya don’t ask. If thry can’t do for you then go to your State senstor and pound on the desk. See post thst begins with ‘operant word’. Them’s your local tax dollars running that show.

                    Operant word is ‘vet’, everyone signed the same paperwork volunteering for the same risks. Some folks got deployed and some didn’t but everyone’s name voluntarily went into the hat.
                    It’s not about ‘owing’, the VA’s services are a benefit of serving, that’s what it was created to do, it just got hihacked along the way. The medical benefits you had access to while on active duty weren’t there because anyone ‘owed’ you, they were a fact of service just as post-service VA benefits are. Those after-discharge benefits aren’t something etherical or special, they are a continuation of in-service benefits.
                    If you were in the military pre-Reagan you know the salary and conditions were sh*t, part of my job was to take my married lower-grade soldiers down to apply for food stamps and welfare so their families wouldn’t suffer while they were down in Latin/South America. For every one of you who volunteered to live a life not under your cobtrol, a life that you volunteered to put on on the line if asked, thousands didn’t. Part of the package along with ill-fitting clothes, mediocre food and crappy living/working conditions was the promise that the VA would be there for you; it’s not an entitlement’ it’s an employment benefit. Go get it.

                    shiloh – a suggestion, if you would allow – here in Ohio, our local VVA (Vietnam Veterans Assn) have been our go-to guys. After Agent Orange was approved, they went house-to-house, contacting every Viet Vet they could find and helping them obtain benefits, Agent Orange or no. We were Agent Orange, but they might be able to help you.

                    Our local VVA guys have been invaluable. Saw the local Pres a few weeks ago in the corner gas station, and he even helped me with a family issue (i am not AO nor Viet Vet, just a Carter social experiment). If you have a VVA, it may be worth a try.

    I am trying to decide who my best friend in the world is. I just found a dead skunk in my window well 😱😧!!! Last night I smelled skunk. I just went out to look around and there it was in my window well. It knocked the plastic cover off. I didn’t hear any fighting. I wonder if it was poisoned ? Ughhhhhhhhh……….

    Making a list of people who like me and will come and remove it. Garbage day isn’t until Monday…..Good grief 😭

        Tweets are saying it was a failure, IDK.
        Here in the real world, I have been seeing first hand fighter jets buzzing around, much more than they normally do. We live near an airport that is used for military training, I guess because it isn’t very busy. Three days ago I saw the funny plane with that giant pancake thing on its back, possibly radar. A fighter just buzzed by this very moment. I have to wonder. This used to be a big airforce base, our whole neighborhood.

        My attitude has definitely changed, and not for the better. I hope they are really losing more normal, everyday people who want to be able to go to the bathroom without facing men, and be able to practice their religion without attacks from people who COULD just go somewhere else for their adoptions, surgeries, and marriages.

        I’m going to duck my head here and confess that I’m partially over the line on the cake and flowers deals. I would not view selling cakes or flowers to a gay couple as an impediment to my practice of my religion, I don’t think. I don’t have to endorse everyones lifestyle in order to do business or be a good Christian, and I don’t see Catholic bakers turning away those who are divorced and re-marrying for the howevermanyeith time, doubt they refuse business from Buddhists and Muslims. Or politicians.

        But on the other hand, what would I do when the satanists want a chocolate raspberry cake for their big do? So, I believe that business owners do need some protections.

        Basically, life is getting to be one big crapstorm that makes me not like the world at all, outside of my own isolated and rosy teeny sphere.
