I can’t remember the last time I actually RAN from something.

Tonight I did. 11:00, restaurant is clean and empty. Me and Chef, the only ones left. Chef is doing the final walkthrough, in the front of the house, I’m mopping the kitchen and taking out trash. He calls me loudly from the very dark FOH, “Wooly! Come here, now!” I was in the middle of something, and yell “Hold on a minute!”. He says “No, NOW!”. I thought he was calling me from the back dining room, so I walk the darkened hallway behind the bar to the even darker back dining room, yelling “Where are you?” He was in the big dining room by men’s room. He said “Stop, listen. There is no stereo even ON right now. I did. I heard a series of arrhythmic tones, staticky, almost like Morse code. For two seconds, I thought it was my feet making the floorboards squeak.

Less than two seconds later, I man-screamed, and hauled a&& to the kitchen, full of adrenaline and goose bumps. He did too. I just started working here. He’s been telling me for a couple of years now that this building is haunted. He related a year ago to me how, when he was the only one there at night, he let his little Maltese run around while he buttoned the joint up for the night, and the dog, in the kitchen, growled, ran down the length of the bar to the other end, turned to face EXACTLY WHERE WE WERE STANDING TONIGHT, and barked furiously at SOMETHING. He ran to the back kitchen door then, too, and his little doggy was even scratching at the door to get the heck out of Dodge.

I heard it from below my feet. Chef heard it from up above.

Chef, maybe it was a short in a speaker wire? “THERE IS NO SPEAKER there!!”

More than an hour later, I have goosebumps just from relating this.

Chef thinks “Pop Barker” is haunting it. Place used to be a bowling alley, for years, long ago. Barker was in the Guiness Book of World Records for bowling the most consecutive games without stopping.

That dark back dining room I walked through, until about a week ago, had a shuffleboard table with an electronic display for both sides’ scores, and three red, lighted buttons. He told me one night he was walking through that room, and the three buttons, top to bottom started lighting up in sequence, making a “bing!” noise each time one lit up. He swears there is no way to make this machine “bing!” and that those buttons only ever light up when you press them.

I swear I will never go back into that dining room at night with the lights off, or alone, or without a priest.

I might sleep with the lights on tonight. Nothing ever freaked me out like that, ever. I mean, I believe that the paranormal is real, whatever that means, but this is the first time I’ve experienced it and been absolutely terrified.

Prayer is good, Wooly. And reciting Scripture. Do it now, to help you relax and put yourself in the protecting arms of God.

Try the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the 23rd Psalm. I add others, but these are bedrock.

        I already have. Dear Lord.

I want to get our local Catholic priest up in there. Both of us had goosebumps, and wide-eyed, laughing, freaked the heck out, and full of adrenaline as we locked up, after running back to the well-lit kitchen. Goosebumps were visible on both our arms.

Literally. Something in me said RUN. The sound (Chef heard music, I heard staccato static tones) didn’t come from above or below, it just was present in the ears, and only in that 4’x4′ spot. Absolutely the weirdest thing I’ve ever experienced. Spooked.

Man-screamed: I yelled incoherently (“Aahhhhhh!!!”) whilst running away from that spot. And I’m a man. And I self-identify as a man. The only reason Chef stuck around at that spot until I got there is because nobody ever believed his stories. I’m 46. He’s 58. He was literally as spooked as I was and was hot on my heels.

I’m tempted to grab my Nana’s rosary and go in there today (when it’s light out) and stand in that spot and see what I hear.

In that house in Upstate NY, I got scared one night and prayed for God to send angels to protect me. I swear I saw them. They were only the curtains and the light from outside, but I had never seen them before. They were always there after that. I still felt it was a sign.

My mother had an experience with an angel as a response to prayer. In her case, she was thanking God for an answer to prayer. She had asked God to help her, because she needed some money for my sister, and didn’t know where to turn. A couple of days later she received a letter from her sister in California containing the exact amount she needed. She fell to her knees to thank God, and that was when she felt the angel enveloping her. It frightened her, I can tell you!

My mom said she saw 20-foot-tall angels surrounding our house when I was about 4, when a tornado destroyed most of our neighborhood in SW MI, leaving our house completely untouched. We overturned our couch and sheltered under it and the folks prayed. It jumped over our tiny cottage, and carved a 20′ wide path through the woods and up the hill just across from it, while cutting a tree down (at about 10′ above our 10′-tall house) and toppling it into the empty lot next to us.

She swears to this day she saw them, arm-in-arm, surrounding our house.

Don’t do that Wooly. I am still reading responses but don’t do that. That is a challenge and you do want to challenge it, you want to bind it in Jesus and dismiss it to the name power and submission of Christ. I have a prayer from a priest II’ll post it after I’m done reading other responses, you have been given good advice from the Stellettes.

Like I said, I don’t play with this stuff.

I’m no exorcist. I know the power of Christ, but I also know my weaknesses, and I am absolutely and completely disinclined to engage whatever this thing is, by my lonesome.

I welcome any and all advice, Lovely. When I speak, I’m still being sarcastic, as always.

I was going to go in today. The owner was there (the guy who signs my check, and Chef’s) just to see if I could hear what I heard in broad daylight. I declined. I know what things I never wanna mess with. Paranormal is one of those things.

Just adding some experiential thoughts to those of others –

In the early 90s the mother of three of our grandsons, along with her family, was dabbling in demons – deliberately. On more than one occasion, after she would leave our house I would see/hear evidences of demons that had come into our house with her, but hadn’t left with her.

In the ’70s, we had observed those who had experience dealing with demonic activity and I knew two elemental things: (1) the blood of Jesus, the Christ, in prayer; has great power and, (2) to NOT get involved directly with such confrontation myself unless it was absolutely essential.

I am not equating all paranormal with demonic activity, but using that approach provides me a safety margin so that I don’t have to figure out which it is.

On one occasion after this woman left our house, it was so obvious that she had left demons there who taunting and harassing me, and I was alone in the house. And yes – it was frightening in terms of human experience. It either had to be stopped or I would have to leave (or end up rolled up in a ball).

I prayed right away, but was so distracted because of their activity – and there was no result. So I said, out loud, “Well, maybe I don’t have the capacity right now to make you leave, but if you are going to stay, you are going to have to listen to Scripture.”

I took my Bible, sat down at the dining room table, and began reading the book of Hebrews aloud (knowing good and well that chapters 9 and 10 were going to come, with the glorious details of the blood of the Lamb being sprinkled on the heavenly tabernacle on our behalf). Allll evidence of demonic activity was gone by about the time I got to chapter 3 as I recall. By the time I got to the end of chapter 13, I was on my feet, rejoicing and reading loudly as I went.

A good time was had by all who were left in the house, which was just me and God at that point.

“Just let me in, Chef. I have to clean some stuff. Deep cleaning, in the FOH. I’ll call you when I’m finished, so you can lock it back up. Shouldn’t take more than an hour.”

That’s why I always quote Ephesians; “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

NOLA’s one the the most religious and the most haunted cities in the US, there are numerous ‘ghost’ tours you can sign up for.
Czarina doesn’t mention it much and, until your post, I’d put it in the back of my mind, but our house there has a part-time ghost. It’s not a ‘woo woo’ kind of ghost, more of a tourist kind. Onlyntime we actually saw it was once as he (it’s a male) past the kitchen-den pass through. Wasn’t your regular sheet-wearer, sort of a working class ghost as it wore what appeared to be a red flannel shirt.
Usually it just opened doors…you’d be sitting there watching TV and the hall door would just swing open, same with the folding doors that seperated the living room from the dining room, they’d fold open about halfway and stop there. You’d also have doors down the hall infrequently open, but our resident seemed to have a predilection for doors attached to the living room.
In all it was a rather pale ghost, even Topper had more pazzaz, and he seemed to have left after Katrina though we still joke that he might have followed us up here.

Wooly this is a very powerful prayer. It was written by a priest over two decades ago and he fine tuned it over the years.

Father Bob and I were good friends, after I left Steubenville we lost touch, though I’m sure many people considered Fr. Bob a good friend. I was blessed to have him in my life is probably a more accurate assessment of our friendship.

When we lived in Steubenville we were friends with a couple, the wife became pregnant while we were very close friends, she went off of her meds as they could damage the baby and ended up in a psych ward for several months. She got involved in things that we did not know about, she returned home and was back on her meds, she was prayed over and began getting her life back together. Both in Christ, her family (they had other children) and the community.

Her newborn was cold to the touch and alway unhappy and tight, lots and lots of crying, Father Bob asked my husband and I to pray over the baby with him. She started screaming and putting her arms out straight like the sign for a football, he kept praying and so did we but I was terrified. Suddenly the baby became quiet she was warm and her limbs weren’t stiff. Fr. bob had held and rocked her the whole time.

      He smiled and whispered “Done”.

Anyhow. He is a powerful priest. This is his prayer. It is decidedly Catholic but I can answer any questions you might have about it or I’m sure Menagerie can and would.

“Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for all You have given me and ask forgiveness for my sins. Please cover me with the protective Precious Blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ (Exodus 12:7), and increase your Holy Spirit in me with His gifts of Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Discernment (1 Corinthians 12:4-11), Guidance (John 16:13) and Hunger for Prayer to help me know Your will and surrender to it more completely. (Titus 2:14)

Holy Spirit, please remove more blocks in me to receiving and sharing Your love and grace; heal more of my negative emotions and wounds in my heart and spirit; and sever and break all spells, curses, hexes, voodoo, witchcraft, and all negative genetic, inter-generational and addictive material; past, present or to come, known or unknown, against me, my relationships and family, finances, possessions, ministry and transportation vehicles.

I ask forgiveness of my own body for not taking care of it and I forgive its negative reactions to me. I forgive all and ask forgiveness of others for my sins and failings (Matthew 6: 14-15), and ask that my whole person-body and mind, heart and will, soul and spirit, memory and emotions, attitudes and values-be cleansed (Revelations 7:14) and renewed by your Holy Spirit. (Romans 12:2)

In the Name, Power, Blood and Authority of Jesus Christ, I bind and break the power and effect in and around me of any and all evil spirits who are trying to harm me (1 Peter 5:8-9) in any way, and I command these spirits and their companion spirits in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to leave me peacefully and quietly and go immediately and directly to the Eucharistic presence of Jesus Christ in the closest Catholic Church tabernacle to be disposed of by Jesus. Lord, please heal the effects of these spirits in and around me.

Dear Holy Spirit, fill me (Romans 5:5) and let me overflow with Your great Love. All this, Father, I pray in the Name of Jesus Christ by the guidance of your Holy Spirit. (John 16:13)

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, Seat of Wisdom and Queen of Peace, please pray for me. Amen.”

I also suggest that you sprinkle the room and then the whole restaurant with holy water after the prayer.

Thanks Menagerie for causing me to do more research. It has been my understanding that the prayers of the rite of baptism have been changed and no longer include words specific to exorcism. This article is written about the Latin Version pre-Vatican II even though the baptism took place after 1962.

          http://taylormarshall.com/2013/06/exorcism-satan-and-baptismal-liturgy.html

The Rite of Baptism is a general exorcism of making Adam’s children, Christ’s children.

I’ll see if I can find more information but to the best of my memory there is an argument in the Church as to whether or not the new rite of baptism is an exorcism within itself. Some claim that the removal of specific prayers has also removed the exorcism aspect. I know Fr. Bob believed this and I know we were at the house of this baby in particular in celebration of her baptism which took place earlier that day.

Here is a side by side comparison.

          http://www.traditionalcatholicpriest.com/2013/07/18/latin-baptism-vs-new-rite-of-baptism/

          Part of the Old Baptismal Rite;

          Priest:

Priest: I exorcise thee, unclean spirit, in the name of the Father + and of the Son, + and of the Holy + Spirit, that thou goest out and depart from this servant of God, N. For He commands Thee, accursed one, Who walked upon the sea, and stretched out His right hand to Peter about to sink. Therefore, accursed devil, acknowledge thy sentence, and give honor to the living and true God: give honor to Jesus Christ His Son, and to the Holy Spirit; and depart from this servant of God, N. because God and our Lord Jesus Christ hath vouchsafed to call him (her) to His holy grace and benediction and to the font of Baptism.

And this sign of the holy Cross, which we make upon his (her) forehead, do thou, accursed devil, never dare to violate.

I exorcise thee, every unclean spirit, in the name of God the Father + Almighty, in the name of Jesus + Christ, His Son, our Lord and Judge, and in the power of the Holy + Spirit, that thou be depart from this creature of God N, which our Lord hath deigned to call unto His holy temple, that it may be made the temple of the living God, and that the Holy Spirit may dwell therein. Through the same Christ our Lord, who shall come to judge the living and the dead, and the world by fire

          New Rite of Baptismal Exorcism;

Prayer of Exorcism and Annointing Before Baptism
After the invocation, the celebrant says:

Almighty and ever-living God, you sent your only Son into the world to cast out the power of Satan, spirit of evil, to rescue man from the kingdom of darkness, and bring him into the splendor of your kingdom of light. We pray for this child: set him (her) free from original sin, make him (her) a temple of your glory, and send your Holy Spirit to dwell with him (her). We ask this through Christ our Lord.

          ***

I’ll take that old time religion.

I think the first link is in agreement with the link I provided that talks about baptism.

There are two kinds of exorcisms: major exorcisms and minor exorcisms.

Baptism is a a separation from original sin.

The second link mirrors my second link.

I know priests who believe that it the baptism rite is an exorcism in and of itself, I also know priests who believe that it is not.

If I recall correctly Fr. Hilz did not believe the baptism was an adequate prayer for exorcism but I don’t think part of the impetus for his prayer of healing as it has come to be known. My Byzantine priest felt strongly that the New Roman Rite was not an exorcism but he certainly was a Child of the Eastern Church where baptism, holy communion and confirmation are all done in early infancy. << I loved this about the Eastern Rite.

My Godfather, a traditional Catholic Priest did not believe the new rite was an exorcism. All of them are faithful priests and well educated Son's of the Church.

After seeing the reaction of the infant to Fr. Bob's prayer within a couple of hours after her baptism I have to say has had a lasting effect on me.

When I entered the Church I was surprised to find out that the Catholic Church believes that all baptisms performed with holy water (a lay person can make holy water with spit in an emergency) and done in the name of the Father, Son and holy Spirit are valid baptisms.
Because my parents church was so odd I was baptized in the Catholic Church since I had no idea if holy water was used or if the baptism was in the name of the Triune God. Anyhow that is where my interest in baptism sprang from.

As my education grew the Church's position made perfect sense, We believe in one Baptism, …

I'm sure that Scott Hahn has an opinion and it is probably very thoroughly spelled out. Scott was another one of my guides to Catholicism but that is another story. I believe he was very doctrinally sound when I knew him. I have not read anything he has written in probably 15 years so I can't say where he is now.

Whether the new rite of the Roman Catholic baptism includes or is in and of itself an exorcism is not Dogma or doctrine and it is an area where the faithful and the learned can and do legitimately disagree in my opinion.

              Thanks again.

Some day soon, Saint Berhard Geotz will inspire hundreds, if not thousands.

The (finally!) fighting back against this prog “Antifa” movement will manifest itself in fighting back against the feral dindus. Fight back until they are afraid to fight.

We won’t continue to take this abuse forever.

          urban dictionary definition of Antifa

          antifa
Anti-capitalistic, anti-personal freedom (unless you agree with them) anti-spiritual, anti-point. Harbors a social superiority with lack of civility or natural intelligence. These dim bulbs (at best) can be characterized by, greasy hair, basement dwellings and being totally devoid of any style or attraction. Usually spotted lurking at night in large groups of marauding retards of like mind (or lack thereof) near a large University or College, anywhere they can find safety in shear numbers (because their pussy’s) but has been known to venture out in the daylight to antagonize, mace women, light garbage cans and cop cars on fire at DJT rallies for money.
We don’t care if you’re 80 years old, we are ANTIFA and were delivering a knuckle sandwich old man.

Just an update that I’m still alive and kicking, not kicking very high but still kicking. Husband caught it, hopefully he fully recovers quicker than I have.

Babies are growing like weeds. Gracie is now 10 weeks old and 15 pounds and 26 inches long. I do believe that little fat girl is going to do everything soon, she giggles all the time, especially at her PaPa, who is her favorite person, she’s already reaching and grabbing and wants to be the center of attention, which is causing a few jealousy issues with big brother who thinks he should be the center of attention. 🙂

well, HE SHOULD be the center of attention SOME….boys need special attention to become strong self confident Men eventually. They cant help it if they become loud, rambunctious, smelly, and impatient younguns….they make fine citizens when they grow up with two parents that love them and recognize their special natures.

Good to see you Michelle 🙂 . My niece who was about 2 years old when her sister was born liked her for the first couple of weeks but when she realized that the baby was there to stay and that lone star status was possibly permanently lost she asked her mom two things 1) When is it going back ? Her mom told her that they were keeping the baby so her second question was 2) “Can we flush it down the toilet?

Thankfully they grew to be great playmates 🙂

I can’t believe Gracie is already 10 weeks old!!!

My daughter hated her little brother and begged us to take him back to the hospital and would tell everyone who came to see him that they could have him. lol
Some days he really likes her, he just doesn’t like everyone paying attention to her. He’s never been a whiner and lately he’s been whining and crying over everything. Yesterday she was crying and her Mommy picked her up and he started crying that he couldn’t get his favorite race car. She asked him if he was crying to be like his sister and very matter of fact he said, “when sister cries ya pick her up, so you need to pick me up when I cry.”

Update of sorts – I’m off to the oncologist now to find out some more thing,

The herceptin treatments (which were to end in June) have been causing damage to my heart, essentially the beginning of heart failure. The numbers showed a significant drop in the February echo cardiogram.

I had an additional/extra echo cardiogram last week to see if it has stabilized or if the EF numbers are continuing to drop. (Has to do with left ventricle which is the one that pumps blood to the whole body).

If they have continued to drop, the last three herceptin appointments will be cancelled to avoid further damage.

Herceptin is known to do this to a certain % of patients receiving it. I iz one.

In some of them, the heart begins a spontaneous recovery after treatment is stopped, but that is not a given at all and the oncologist does not want to leave me with any permanent damage that could be avoided. My primary doc said last week that he has several patients who had successful cancer treatment and were left with heart failure (because it can progress, it does not necessarily stabilize).

I’m beyond grateful for the goodness of God, that He knows me and that He is a very good Shepherd for this sheep. His very presence guards my heart in all ways.

Just got back – unusually, had to wait to get in – an hour past my appointment time. That was exhausting because I just don’t have normal stamina back yet.

The #s on the heart test had not dropped any more. The left ventricle is still pumping out 50% of the blood at each beat (normal is 65%) so I was able to get the IV, and now have only two to go, then will be totally done with active treatment. Then I go on some kind of prescription for five years that I don’t remember the name of.

For a period of time I will be having mammograms/ultrasounds every six months. I think for two years.

I finally went back to my calendar a few weeks back and counted up the # of trips up there over the past year (since the end of March, 2016). It’s right around 100, 80 miles each round trip. The success of my treatment is outstanding, even with the permanent after-effects (like hearing loss).

The process of the treatment is exhausting – believe me. Prognosis and process are quite two different things, and if I can encourage families of cancer patients about just one thing, it would to encourage them not to mix the two. They are two completely different things (and I’m not presuming a positive prognosis for those patients). Just be aware that diagnosis, prognosis, and process – are THREE different things the patient is facing: whether or not they deal with them at all is their call, of course. Even if they choose to deal with them as proactively as is possible for them, there is a steep price to paid – financially, socially, spiritually, physically, etc

I still haven’t been able to bring myself to write about that on MBOB-The Blog and maybe never will. I don’t know about that! One thing I always do is take state high 99E from Woodburn to Oregon City, and then hop on I-205 for the 1/4 of the way to the hospital or oncology unit. Such a scenic and beautiful road that way – past many kinds of orchards and through small towns. Makes me do the happy dance inside. Love the country roads.

Thank you for all your encouragements!.

Basically the Democrats have stacked the courts with activist judges which we have known all along. Hopefully Ginsburg will fall off the bench soon and we can get a stop to this madness once it gets to the SCOTUS. The republicans need to keep 51 vote and hopefully pad that some. That said I don’t trust most of the republicans so we really are as close to being SOL as we can be.

Honestly the more I see of the savages in the street, Antifa attacking people just out of their pure stupidity and hatred the more I believe this is going to get a lot bloodier and a lot more dangerous before anything changes. I am unduly anxious that so many police are still standing down with Trump in office. I know it takes time for a ship to change directions but I want to see thugs cuffed, dragged off and thrown in jail.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.

OH my…. I looked up the charges for Dh’s 5 day hospital visit……. we have insurance, so it is covered, but it was shocking nonetheless. $111,000. The room charge, semi private room was almost $9000. Let’s see, $9000/5 is ummmmmm $1800. $1800 a day for a room, that he shared…. I am so booking the Grand Suite for our next cruise…
I will not complain about our health insurance payments.. we are lucky, so very lucky. We only have to pay a small, very small fraction of that total charge. If I knew that the hospital was charging $1800 a day I would have put my feet on the furniture.

This leads me to believe that hospitals must have a way to determine who has coverage (can pay the bills) withing 40 seconds of when you register.. They have to know this. Call me gobsmacked.

Most hospitals have a base price, and that’s what a person walking in of the street would pay. They generally negotiate a price with a major fee-for-service insurance company or HMO so what The bill for a particular service under my old BC/BS would be different than what the same service would be inder my Medicare. Local news is finding that billings for the same service sent to the same insurance companies can vadtly differ among providers within the same city.
You ain’t just osying for a ‘room’, the billing folks stuff as many miscellaneous and creative charges in under ‘room’ as they can. They can’t get paid as much for billing for a room as they can billing for dozens of little charges associated with that room, negotiating each one. It’s an art form.
Dirty little secret of many hospitals is that if you don’t have insurance you can go into that billing office and negotiate a price. When one of my sons was visiting he had an accident and went to the ER. Hevhad no insurance so when he got the bill it was for over $1400. I knew we could negotiate it and we did, cut it more than in half. Medical billing is more like a grift but it’s what we’ve come to accept as normal…your money or your life.
