This article on the President’s immigration views and his campaign with these views front and center is so good you might never believe a Catholic wrote it. How I wish the bishops, and yes, the pope, had this much sense.

    • The Tundra PA says:

Hmm. I have to take some issue here. The premise of his entire article is that leaders must address difficult issues, that Donald Trump is President precisely because he addressed the difficult issues of illegal immigration and Islamic terrorism when other politicians would not, and that Catholic leaders would be wise to learn from Trump’s success and not run from difficult issues. And then, with the little asterisk to his opening sentence (“Donald Trump is in the White House today, for better or worse*, because he dared…”) he states that he considers it for worse that Donald Trump is President. This belies his entire premise and negates the validity of his article.

I would also add this. He states the first question to address in any discussion of immigration—the question that must be addressed, as the price of admission into any serious discussion—is the question of how the US can regain control of our borders. It is not necessary, at this early stage, to agree on just how tight those controls should be. But there must be some controls: some means of determining which immigrants will be allowed to enter, and which will be excluded. I suggest that before that question can be asked, it must be established that not every person in the world who desires to come to our country somehow has the right to do so. And it is our right as a nation to decide who we allow in and who we do not. Only then can we ask the question of how we control our borders.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before the left embraced formal sacraments such as confession. Only there’s one key aspect of America’s religious tradition the left will never embrace: I guarantee no man will walk out of this campus confession booth having been forgiven of the sin of “hypermasculinity.”

Certainly, the religious right has had its excesses. But if you think that’s bad, just imagine the consequences of a political system dominated by a religious left that doesn’t believe in redemption.

I am sitting here watcing FOX while I finish up some things. They are reporting on the problems with building the wall on the border and saying there will be trouble trying to acquire the property to build it. This woman, Arora Merta (sp?), whose family owns some of the land says nothing will stop the illegals from coming. The gov has sent them a letter offering $2,900 for one (1) ONE acre of their land for the wall. She says that is not near enough because their family has owned this property for x number of years, etc.

EASY solution. Build the wall. Stop on each side of their property. It won’t be very long before they are BEGGING the government to take their land and build the wall because the illegals and smugglers will be funneled onto that property. Have you seen pictures of the garbage, etc. left as the illegals come through, dead bodies, piles of disposable baby diapers, feces, trash of all descriptions. And, always the danger of being attacked on your own property. Yep, don’t even bother to fight with them in court.

I just watched “To Walk Invisible: The Bronte Sisters”. What a remarkably sad story. So much talent in one family, yet so much misery and misfortune. Every one of the children in that family died of tuberculosis, although their brother’s alcoholism and laudanum addiction contributed to his death. Six children, all died young. One sister at 10, one at 11, Emily at 30, Anne at 29, Branwell at 31, Charlotte at 38.

I saw it. I forgot to mention that it was on. Yes, it was sad. I think it was well done and gives a realistic picture of their lives. I always had this vision of them sitting in a pretty house, wearing lovely clothes, doing their writing, etc. I got that from other movies, I guess. It was especially sad that their brother affected their lives so negatively.

I read the Wiki entry. This is what it said about the village they lived in:

The death toll within the Brontë family was not unusual and left little impression on the village population, who were confronted with death on a daily basis. When Patrick Brontë arrived, the parish was suffering from unemployment. The men sought work in the quarries and local handicrafts. The only businesses were the pharmacy which supplied Branwell, and John Greenwood’s stationery store in which the Brontës were the best customers.

Haworth’s population grew rapidly during the first half of the 18th century, from hardly 1,000 to 3,365 in 50 years. The village did not have a sewage system and the well water was contaminated by faecal matter and the decomposition of bodies in the cemetery on the hilltop. Life expectancy was less than 25 years and infant mortality was around 41% of children under six months of age. Most of the population lived from working the poorly fertile land of the moors and supplemented their incomes with work done at home, such as spinning and weaving wool from the sheep that were farmed on the moors. Conditions changed and the textile industry, already present since the end of the 17th century, grew in the mills on the banks of the River Worth, whose waters turned the wheels which consequently required fewer people to work them.

Food was scarce, often little more than porridge, resulting in vitamin deficiencies. Public hygiene was non-existent and lavatories were basic. The facilities at the parsonage were no more than a plank across a hole in a hut at the rear, with a lower plank for the children. In her thirties, Charlotte was described as having a toothless jaw, by such persons as Mrs Gaskell, who stated in a letter dated 25 August 1850 to Catherine Winkworth : […] large mouth and many teeth gone […]. However, food was reasonable in the family. Well filled plates of porridge in the morning and piles of potatoes were peeled each day in the kitchen while Tabby told stories about her country or Emily revised her German grammar, and sometimes Mr Brontë would return home from his tours of the village with game donated by the parishioners.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen
