I have truly enjoyed the wildflower pics this week Miss Stella. Thank you. But it’s now Sunday morning and everyone needs a drink. I’m bringing the coffee y’all. Still not too sure about this wack-a-doodle machine, but for now, we run with it. Coffee up y’all. I’m sure it’s going to be a busy week.

Poor Boo Boo, the show ends…he and Yogi get nailed on a Fed charge of theft and conspiracy to commit theft of pickanick baskets on Federal property. Boo gets time and it doesn’t go well for him being a small and slowish bear.
Boo gets out and there’s no work so he ends up living out of a shopping cart under a bridge. The booze, the drugs, his life fell into bruination.
We see him here at an AA meeting in his reBuild-a-Bear halfway house as he tries to piece his shattered life back together.

Czarina has a pair of old teddy bears, almost forgot. The larger bear wears my old green field fatigue cap from the late 60s and smaller bear sits in the lap larger bear. Haven’t had the bear tableau up for a while, paternalistic, demeaning, sexist…all of that…
but now we’re out in the more conservative sticks maybe it can go up again.

My daughter has the teddy bear that her grandpa gave her when she was 2. It is held together by the clothes that my mom made for him, because he is now almost completely hairless and threadbare. His name is “Teddy”, and he now lives on the mantel in her home.

You can get HDR apps for your phone camera, with sliders that adjust the color saturation, from pure B&W to acid trip-level color, and much much more.

My current phone is poweful, I guess. That’s what I’m told.
My old phone from 5 years ago took better macro pics, by far.
I took a photo of a leaf growing out of the side of a tree, from literally an inch away from it with my old phone, and had an amazing photo of a leaf smaller than my pinky fingernail, filling the screen, in glorious, high-res detail. It was a virtual microscope. Lenses matter.
My current phone cannot focus at a one-inch range.

My mom is a terrific gardner. I have a ton of pictures of her flowers. This one was likely taken with my Nikon camera not my phone.

My grandpa on my mom’s side, my “Bumpa”, was an avid gardener, and an avid photographer. He was on the East Coast, we were right where I sit. Him and Nana visited every so often, He was the man who taught me the phrase “G-d D-mn it All!” when he lost his camera at the K-Zoo airport. He said that about fifteen times.

I got a nice Canon t2i as a gift last year, and even though I live in a smallish town I hesitate to go to the river or the local park alone with it, as I’m afraid it would be stolen. We’ve had a lot of gangbangers and illegals moving in here from Chicago, sadly.
There aren’t many places here to take good pics as it is.

I have been wanting to save up for a new camera. The one I have now is a $60 drugstore buy that is now coming apart at the edges, but I’ve taken about 15,000 pictures on it. It drives me crazy it takes so long to start (then I miss the animal I’m trying to photograph), and the back is flat with no eyepiece, so all I see is a reflection of my face a lot of times. Do you take a lot of photos, and what camera do you like?

I take loads of photos and I have a Nikon D3200 I’ve always had a Nikon since I was 16 years old. I just like them.
My camera is considered a camera for beginners or amateur hobbyists, I’m an amateur I just enjoy being able to set it to point and shoot.
Any Nikon even Cool Pix is a good digital camera.

I’ve pisted this many moons ago but….
Back in late 1990/very early ’91 I was sent to a classified tech meeting at a place in the Beltway. There was a number of devices all forgotten except for one. The presenter trots out a well-known Japanese camera with a wire attached from the back plate to some control box. Attached to the box was a battery pack and an old bulky hard drive. All of this, minus the camera of course, fit onto the user’s belt, not all thst comfortably.
This was cutting edge, a touchable scaling of the tech used on surveillance satellites, the working model of a system to come.
I can’t remember what the system’s resolution was, but ten years lster when the first cellphone cameras came out they were 176×208 so it couldn’t have been all that hot.
We got to use a version of it in the late 90s on a NEO mission, coordinating someone taking pix many miles from our work center and sending them back to us thru our secure computer system. Now you can do it with a few button punches on your smart phone and with far better resolution and ease.

lovely and I discussed this briefly on the previous thread. As long as they are married, they don’t have to testify in court against each other. As lovely says, this is a marriage of convenience, similar to Bill and Hillary.

You know – I really do think twice about a person who does not like dogs. My mom was afraid of dogs after being attacked by one as a child, and that is different. People who don’t like dogs I immediately don’t trust.

The great thing about some dogs, is they can also tell you who not to to trust, as well.
Chef’s dog barks at two people, and menacingly growls at one, who walk by his yard on the sidewalk. Chef and I always had bad knowledge about two, a bad feeling about all three of them, and his cute little dog either knows that fact, or intuits it otherwise.

I’ve seen it too many times to discount it.

The smell of an airbag that has gone off leaves your nose in about four to five days.
It’s another great incentive to not crash your car, remembering that.
I don’t know what’s in them, but working with strong bleach products for a few hours, that bleach smell stays in your nostrils for about 2-3 hours.

Sodium azide is the bang in an airbag, that free sodium stench is the heart of bleach (sodium hypochlorite) and the sodium azide gas. We used to use lots of neat and highly corrosive stuff in bio/chem decontamination operations and that concentrated bleach smell used to fry your nose., there are times I’m amazed that I have anybnose left at all.
Sidebar: We got into airbags as there were fears that bad guys would break into cars to steal the detonators to use to trigger IEDs. Appears that stealing the entire airbag assembly and reselling it to unscrupulous dealers yields enough mobey to buy the good detonators stolen from storage sites.

Two decades ago, when I was at rock bottom, living in my car, I tried in vain to sell my car’s airbag, just for the cash. No luck.
I guess I didn’t know the right people. You’d think “well, maybe that airbag saved the next owner’s life”. You’d be wrong, as I destroyed that Geo with a flat-bladed shovel when I couldn’t dig it out of the ice its wheels were encased in.
Yeah, I used to be a very angry person.
Now I sing all day, because I’m lucky to be alive.

And you do a lot of good through your joy in God. One word sometimes changes the course of events minor and great. We are celebrating my mom’s birthday in a couple of weeks and I was at a loss for a gift. She, like many people her age just doesn’t need anything and her house is full of the things she treasures and enough knick knacks for anyone.
Last night your “WOW” to my picture made me think of a great gift. I am going to put 25 -50 pictures of my mom’s flowers from over the years together and put them in a scrapbook for her. She has some pictures from me on her computer but I know she would love to have a book to look at especially over the long winter. So thank you Wooly!

Here’s a bacon recipe for today – still have time to make it before lunch ๐
TODAY’S BACON RECIPE – BACON APRICOT PORK ROAST
Ingredients
1-1 1/2 pound pork tenderloin
6 – 8 strips bacon
4 Tbl apricot preserves
2 tsp mustard
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 cup onions chopped fine/minced, or sliced fine
2 tablespoons olive oil
Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF
Trim the pork of any excess fat and rip off the silvery membrane if itโs still attached.
Spread 1tsp mustard over the top of the roast, then the garlic and onion powder. Fold the tapered end of the pork back under the rest of the tenderloin a little bit, just to the point where the whole tenderloin is a uniform thickness. Wrap the pork in strips of bacon, overlapping the pieces and making certain they fit snugly around the pork Tightly tuck the ends underneath the tenderloin to hold them in place. Secure the ends of the bacon strips in place with toothpicks.
Heat the oil in a roasting pan or a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork until itโs brown on all sides, about 10 – 15 minutes total. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast the tenderloin until the core temperature registers 145ยฐF for medium, about 15 minutes, or 155ยฐF for medium-well, 20 – 30 minutes.
While the pork is cooking, pour excess drippings out of the pan and cook the onion over medium heat until soft and browned. Mix together the apricot preserves and 1 tsp mustard, add to onion and warm over medium-low heat until it begins to bubble, about 5 minutes.
About 5-10 minutes before the roast is done depending on how crispy you want it, spread on the apricot, mustard and onion mixture [1], and finish cooking. When the roast is done set aside to rest, covered, for 5 -10 minutes.
[1]You can make extra sauce mixture and put over the roast when cooking. When done, pour out of pan, skim off fat and serve, or just make and set aside to pour over roast when served.
Some recipies add brown sugar, but I prefer it without as it dilutes the other flavors, and makes it very sugary. This process can be used for any spice/preserve combo you want. Enjoy!

1/3 strip of bacon, lay a bunch out.
Place a dried apricot on the center of each piece. Then add a slice of jalapeno.
Wrap both ends over those, and toothpick it.
The thing about this appetizer, is it contains all five “S” flavors.
Sweet, Sour, Salty, Spicy, and Savory (umami).

1975: [Vietnam] Hue falls to the communists The city of Hue, in northernmost South Vietnam, falls to the North Vietnamese. Hue was the most recent major city in South Vietnam to fall to the communists during their new offensive. The offensive had started in December 1974, when the North Vietnamese had launched a major attack against the lightly defended province of Phuoc Long, located north of Saigon along the Cambodian border. The communists overran the provincial capital of Phuoc Binh on January 6, 1975.
President Richard Nixon had repeatedly promised South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu that the United States would come to the aid of South Vietnam if North Vietnam committed a major violation of the Peace Accords. However, by the time the communists had taken Phuoc Long, Nixon had already resigned from office and his successor, Gerald Ford, was unable to convince a hostile Congress to make good on Nixonโs promises to Saigon.
This situation emboldened the North Vietnamese, who launched a campaign in March 1975 to take the provincial capital of Ban Me Thuot in the Central Highlands. The South Vietnamese defenders there fought very poorly and were overwhelmed by the North Vietnamese attackers. Once again, the United States did nothing. President Thieu ordered his forces in the Highlands to withdraw to more defensible positions to the south. What started out as a reasonably orderly withdrawal degenerated into a panic that spread throughout the South Vietnamese armed forces. They abandoned Pleiku and Kontum in the Highlands with very little fighting and the North Vietnamese pressed the attack from the west and north. In quick succession, Quang Tri and Hue fell. The communists then seized Da Nang, the second largest city in South Vietnam. Many South Vietnamese, both military and civilian, died in the general chaos while attempting to escape from the airport, docks, and beaches.
By this time, the South Vietnamese forces were in flight all over the northern half of South Vietnam. The North Vietnamese continued to attack south along the coast, overrunning city after city, methodically defeating the South Vietnamese forces. By April 27, the North Vietnamese had completely encircled Saigon and began to maneuver for their final assault, which became known as the โHo Chi Minh Campaign.โ By the morning of April 30, it was all over. As the North Vietnamese tanks broke through the gates of the Presidential Palace in Saigon, the Vietnam War came to an end.

Yesterday a group of young โuns invited me to attend an outside tea party. Yes, the wind was howling, yes the grass was as brown as the Sahara, but there was a beautiful bouquet of florist wildflowers lending color to the table and the early thaw provided us with the background music of a spring run-off rushing over the nearby reservoir dam.
Laughter & hot tea were pouring out around the table when we noticed that a rabbit had quietly emerged from the tree line. The rabbit paced around the edge of the lawn, it stood up, smelled the wind & clearly focused on us for about five minutes. And then spring arrived in all its glory. Mama bunny brought forth her fluffle of babies and guided them across the lawn in front of us as she headed down to the creek bed below.
Tea party AND bunniesโฆ.a sure-fire restorative for a weary soul.

IMO a big part of what is totally wrong in the world today is people thinking that they have the right to “feel good” or that they are entitled to agree with what is good and right. They think it must not conflict with their wants and desires, when in actuality we must conform our wants and desires in right order to the Good in order to truly be happy.
Short term pleasures are not the be all end all, but I see no indication that the world will ever understand that again. Today I went to confession. For the first time in a long while I didn’t want to. I wanted to continue on my path. I wasn’t feeling it. But my faith, and the grace of prudence tell me to use an act of will rather than wait until I feel like doing right. It is far from the most emotional confession I ever made, but I think it was one of the most needed and important ones. And Jesus gave me exactly the counsel and penance I needed.

I got into an argument about politics with a co-worker tonight. I had just gone in (it’s just next door, pretty much) to help the kitchen close down for the night. She is going to school to be a “diplomat”, but she’s a hard, hard leftie. The argument we had was (I was pro) whether North Africa was better or worse off under English Colonialism. I had made the point, offhand, that I’ve known several people from Nigeria and elsewhere, and that their command of the English language is superb, and that they speak it better than anyone on earth except Indians.
Oh, she snapped. “Yeah, because of England and their bad Colonizing!”
Then I led her into a discussion of The Prime Directive, from Star Trek, and whether she agreed or not that it is good to give less-advanced civilizations things like refrigeration, medicine, the scientific method, language, and philosophy?
I said, what, just tell them “Good luck! Invent it yourselves!”???
What I found amazing is that (and I love everyone, and keep that in mind whether I’m working for them or educating them) I kept absolutely cool the whole time. That is incredibly rare with me, except lately. I think reading Vox Day really helped in that regard. Confidence was gained in my life over this last decade like no other.

I stopped talking about all these things with people, about four years ago: politics, religion, culture. Nope, stick to weather, music, work, and humor. Never, ever argue the more important things. I lost my voice for the three busiest months of summer. Try yelling “Behind you! Sharp!” or “Behind you! Hot! Hot!!” when you sound like a Scooby Dooโข ghost villain, in the busiest kitchen in town. It was not a fun three months.
He took my voice. Then, He gave it back. That was unexpected. After two months, I thought it was gone forever. And now, somehow, years later, can actually argue with progs with real confidence, and love. And sing in the kitchen like Smokey.
Why He took my voice? I only used it for evil, and never for good. All I did was bitch.
Boogie on, Reggae Woman. That’s what I use my voice fo, now.

Next time tell her that Europe most certainly does serve an important function in north and sub-Saharan Africa. Were it mot for Europeans the residents wouldn’t have an excuse for their relative lack,of overall progress.

Every leech in Congress needs to be told:
We are a nation of LAWS. Not of feelings, not of personalities. If you don’t agree with that, you will be voted out of office.
Enjoy your lifetime pension and platinum bennies for you and all your kinfolk.
(And that needs to end too. You get voted out of the House or Senate? You better go find a job right quick. We vote them out, then give them, essentially, lottery winnings for life.)

It is a fake news site. I’ve been reading news long enough to know the names of most of the major city newspapers in this great nation.
The story is fake. The site is fake, and made to look exactly like a local big-city news site. You click on the tabs on top and get a clue. Blank pages.

Lots of intentional disinformation out there. It’s good to have, and practice, discernment.

I found out today that there are actually sites where you can make fake news articles, appearing on real-MSM-looking templates, to spoof your friends (or enemies) in real life, and then propagate the links through FaceBook, where they will then be further propagated. These sites are like IMGUR or Photobucket, only instant-fake-news-making sites.
Discernment is a valuable gift.
