    The Democrats Blink

    Cooler heads among the Democrats know that they face disaster if they filibuster Judge Gorsuch’s nomination, and I’ve suspected from the beginning that Chuck Schumer is quietly rounding up eight votes from safe Democrats to vote for cloture to prevent the Republicans from getting rid of the filibuster. Politico reports that Democrats are trying to get a deal from enough Republicans—the Gang of 14 redux—to allow Gorsuch to go forward while getting a GOP commitment not to get rid of the filibuster for the rest of Trump’s term:

      Mr. Schumer, who four years ago himself voted to trigger the nuclear option on all other nominees, told Republicans not to follow his lead.

      “The answer isn’t to change the rules, it’s to change the nominee,” the New York Democrat said Thursday.

      His announcement came even as the hearings for Judge Gorsuch were still going on, with the American Bar Association telling senators the judge had received the highest rating possible for a nominee.

    I can’t stand any more of this drumbeat of negativity – repeating what has already been criticized about some of Judge Gorsuch’s rulings, without his ability to explain the rulings.

    Mrs Phillips wants laws to change, well a judge doesn’t do that. Oh boy. So sorry about her daughter Jessie. ( killed in the CO theater shooting)

    It is my sincerest hope that the Republicans NOT cut a deal.My gut tells me it would be a shot in both feet. We all know that, should there be yet another SCOTUS vacancy during Trump’s presidency, there is no way in a hot place the Dems will go quietly.

      My gut tells me that the Republicans won’t cut a deal, and I hope that they don’t. Depends on how unified the Republican senators are, as 50 are needed in order to get the “nuclear option” (simple majority vote). Sadly, there are some R senators who are often more like D’s. We’ll see.

        My thought is that Judge Gorsuch is going to make it through with the help of the democrats. They are only replacing Scalia. They are saving their real battle for the Ginsburg replacement and likely hoping that Trump is impeached by then.

        The Ginsburg replacement is going to make the Gorsuch hearings look like Mayberry.

    When asked what my affiliation is, I will tell you American. And this American is beyond disappointed in this SCOTUS confirmation hearing. If they put any more spin on it, we’ll find them in the center of the earth. . . How petty and dishonest can the Dems get?
