Good Evening, Good Morning, All! I’ve put together today’s post, but I’ve unfortunately noticed that some of the dates (even from History.com!) have been incorrect. I’m not asking anyone to factcheck for me (I try to do that when things seem off) but if you find something you know is in error, please make a short note. For example, joshua kindly pointed out I had a date obviously out of whack. This way I can correct my document and other posters will have the correct info. I appreciate your help, should you be so moved. That being said…

This day in (Mostly) American History, March 15
1778: Nootka Sound, Vancouver Island discovered by Captain James Cook

1783: In an emotional speech in Newburgh, New York, George Washington asks his officers not to support the Newburgh Conspiracy. The plea is successful and the threatened coup d’etat never takes place.

1820: As part of the Missouri Compromise between the North and the South, Maine is admitted into the Union as the 23rd state. Administered as a province of Massachusetts since 1647, the entrance of Maine as a free state was agreed to by Southern senators in exchange for the entrance of Missouri as a slave state.

1855: Louisiana establishes 1st health board to regulate quarantine

1912: Pitcher Cy Young retires from baseball with 511 wins
1913: First US presidential press conference (Woodrow Wilson)
1916: General Pershing and 15,000 troops chase Villa into Mexico; they stay for 10 months
1937: First state contraceptive clinic opens (Raleigh NC)
1937: First blood bank forms (Chicago IL)

1941: A fast-moving and severe blizzard hits North Dakota and Minnesota, killing 151 people, on this day in 1941. Weather forecasting and reporting made important advances following this disaster that would have prevented the loss of life that occurred due to the sudden storm. The people of North Dakota and northern Minnesota had nearly no warning of the blizzard that swept in suddenly from the west on March 15. In some locations, temperatures dropped 20 degrees in less than 15 minutes. Fifty-mile-per-hour sustained winds (with gusts reaching 85 mph in Grand Forks and 75 mph in Duluth) brought blinding snow and huge 7-foot-high snow drifts across the states.

1945: Billboard publishes its 1st album chart (King Cole Trio is #1)
1954: CBS Morning Show” premieres with Walter Cronkite & Jack Paar
1955: US Air Force unveils self-guided missile

1958: USSR performs atmospheric nuclear test
    1959: Robert Foster sets record by staying underwater 13 m 42.5 s

1959: First Teen Idol Created -The first man-made idols were launched in the late 1950s from Philadelphia, where a handful of enterprising businessmen applied a little creativity and a lot of cold, hard cash to the task of capitalizing on the rock-and-roll phenomenon. The Philadelphia teen idol machine hit full stride on March 15, 1959, when local boy Frankie Avalon hit #1 on the pop charts with his hit song, “Venus.”

1960: Key Largo Coral Reef Preserve established (1st underwater park)
1960: National Observatory at Kitt Peak, Arizona dedicated
1962: Five research groups announce the discovery of anti-matter
1962: Wilt Chamberlain is 1st to score 4,000 pts in an NBA season
1965: President Lyndon Johnson calls for equal voting rights

1965: [Vietnam] Gen. Harold K. Johnson, Army Chief of Staff, reports on his recent visit to Vietnam to President Lyndon B. Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara. He admitted that the recent air raids ordered by President Johnson had not affected the course of the war and said he would like to assign an American division to hold coastal enclaves and defend the Central Highlands. President Johnson ordered the 173rd Airborne Brigade to Vietnam in May 1965 and followed it with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in September of the same year. These forces, along with the first contingent of U.S. Marines–which had arrived in March–were only the first of a massive American build up. By 1969, there were more than 540,000 U.S. troops in South Vietnam.

1968: Construction starts on the north tunnel of the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnel on Interstate 70 in Colorado, some 60 miles west of Denver. Located at an altitude of more than 11,000 feet, the project was an engineering marvel and became the world’s highest vehicular tunnel when it was completed in 1979. Four months after opening, one million vehicles had passed through the tunnel; today, some 10 million vehicles drive through it each year.

1973: [Vietnam] President Nixon hints that the United States might intervene again in Vietnam to prevent communist violations of the truce. A cease-fire under the provisions of the Paris Peace Accords had gone into effect on January 27, 1973, but was quickly and repeatedly violated by both sides as they jockeyed for control of territory in South Vietnam. Very quickly, both sides resumed heavy fighting in what came to be called the “cease-fire war.”
Nixon had been instrumental in convincing the reluctant South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu to sign the peace treaty, promising him repeatedly that, “We will respond with full force should the settlements be violated by North Vietnam.” As the fighting continued throughout 1973 and into 1974, Thieu appealed to Nixon to make good on his promises. For his part, Nixon was increasingly embroiled in the developing Watergate scandal, and resigned from office in August 1974. His successor, Gerald Ford, was unable to persuade a hostile Congress to provide the promised support to South Vietnam. The United States did nothing when the North Vietnamese launched their final offensive in the spring of 1975. South Vietnam was defeated in less than 55 days, surrendering unconditionally to the North Vietnamese on April 30.

Remember when Obama paid $300,000 below the asking price for his Chicago home and Tony Rezko’s wife paid $625,000 for the adjacent lot and then sold Obama that lot for below market value, a real steal for $105,000.

Remember that the entire MSM apparatus said that there was nothing unethical or even a reason to rubber neck the transaction, because “Obama”.

Remember Obama said “I’m such a bonehead, Tony told me he wasn’t under indictment and I believed him and heck I could barely afford the $165,000 for the house as it was.”

Now the MSM, well at least Maddow is losing their marionette minds over a story that they have created about a property deal that President Trump supposedly engaged in with a Russian ruffian.

Nunes (R-CA) and Schiff (D-CA) are on Fox looking very glum, they are trying to portray their glumness as concern over President Trump tweeting a warrantless accusation against Obama.

Their words are contradicting themselves in this single presser. They have said that they have seen no evidence that there was wire tapping of Trump on the other hand they say they are putting forth a proposal to see that the FISA warrants were properly followed.

Of course they need great access to sensitive information to gather more information 🤔.

IMO they appear to have gotten bad news.

Ha ha! Schiff just said “We don’t know if there is any there there.”

None is concerned with “incidental” collecting/releasing of American names. Eh? If there was no FISA warrant, no wiretapping where did the “incidental, collecting and releasing of American names” come from.

Schiff no evidence of a Trump/Russian connection then goes on to tie Assange to Russia and Wikileaks to thwarting Hillary and being pro Trump.

    I’m getting dizzy 😜

And it appears President Trump is giving a speech at 2 pm (Eastern Time) ?

Those that get to actrial msy find some slap-on-the-wrist punishment awaits. Catch and release at its best.

OK, NOLA Archbishop has given a dispensation to Catholics in the NOLA Archdiocese to eat meat this Friday for St Patrick’s Day. Not sure if that only applies to Catholics living inside the Archdiocese or if it also applies to Catholics coming in from outside looking for a meat loophole to slide through. Don’t come for free though, partakers will have to pick another day to practice their abstinence or perform an act of penance.

An Irishman moved into a tiny hamlet in County Kerry, walked into the pub and promptly ordered three beers. The bartender raised his eyebrows, but served the man three beers, which he drank quietly at a table, alone. The next evening the man again ordered and drank three beers at a time. Soon the entire town was whispering about the Man Who Orders Three Beers. Finally, a week later, the bartender broached the subject on behalf of the town. “I don’t mean to be prying but folks around here are wonderin why your always order three beers and drink them alone?”. “Tis a wee bit odd I would be supposin” the man replied. “You see, I have two brothers, and one went to America and the other went to Australia. We promised each other that we would always order two extra beers, whenever we would partake, as a way of keeping up the family bond.”

The bartender and the whole town were pleased with his answer and with the reverence for family and soon the Man Who Orders Three Beers became a local celebrity and source of pride to the hamlet. Then one day the man came in and ordered only two beers. The bartender served them with a heavy heart. Word flew around the hamlet quickly. Prayers were offered for the soul of one of the brothers. The next day, the bartender said to the man, “folks around here, me first of all, want to offer our condolences to you for the death of your brother”

The man pondered for a moment then replied, ” You’ll be happy to hear that my two brothers are alive and well. It’s just that I, meself, have decided to give up drinking for Lent.”

She and the team are moving steadily at 7.6 MPH. Pete Kaiser is about a mile behind her, and moving a little faster at 8.3 MPH. Unclear if he can sustain the speed and overtake her. There may be a dramatic race to the finish line for 8th place. Paul Gebhardt is 7 miles behind Pete, and Jeff King is 10 miles behind Paul, so no late challenges are going to come from the back to blow past.

The problem articulated in a nutshell; The public expects the administration to do radical things but without causing severe inconvenience.

We are becoming compassionate to our own extinction, which is not true compassion but rather conscience massaging in a vacuum.

I don’t pretend to have the answer but one simple truth is that it is impossible for an insurance industry to survive if it covers pre-existing conditions. If the insurance industry does not survive, no one will have insurance, if no one has insurance then everyone will have insurance under a single payer because a society cannot exist without medical care.

Insurance companies can’t viably supply insurance for pre-existing conditions and the simplest comparison that I can give is imagine if car insurance could be retroactive, no one would buy insurance until their car was wrecked or stolen and then they would go to an insurance company and say here is a $149.00 check for retroactive insurance now give me a check for $35,000 so I can go buy a new car. It is a system that is impossible to sustain.

How Sec. Zinke Spent His Snow Day: Shoveling The Snow Off, Giving Tours Of A Closed Lincoln Memorial

    http://ijr.com/2017/03/824623-secretary-zinke-spent-snow-day-shoveling-giving-tours-closed-lincoln-memorial/

What newly-minted Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke did was call the cops. Specifically, the U.S. Park Police. This force is under his control as Interior Secretary, and Zinke wanted to do a ride around under emergency conditions. The Park Police had previously provided the hard-charging former congressman and Navy SEAL a horse to ride to work on for his first day at Interior; however, this would be the first time Zinke had seen his new position in a state of semi-emergency situation.

This Independent Journal Review reporter was invited to ride in the back seat of the police cruiser for a day that spanned two states, a couple of secret monument tours, a walk around General Robert E. Lee’s dilapidated home, and the Secretary of the Interior literally shoveling snow off the Lincoln Memorial steps. The ride was a wild one.

Here is what happens when Secretary Zinke goes out in a snowstorm:

    Nice photos at link.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

I’m watching President Trump on Tucker Carlson and he is plainly making the case that the democrats (and some republicans) are the enemy of American citizens.

Funny that. Obama and Hawaiian Judge Derrick Kahala Watson both gradated Harvard in 1991. Politico claims Obama was in Hawaii on Monday the 12th of March.
