This Day in American History, March 6

1836: General Santa Ana leads 3,000 Mexican troops across the Rio Grande in a raid on the Alamo, a mission in San Antonio held by 200 soldiers of the rebellious Texas republic. All of the defenders are killed.

1857: The Supreme Court declares that Dred Scott, a slave, could not sue for his freedom. The court ruling invalidated the Missouri Compromise, upsetting a delicate balance which had kept the peace between the free and slave states since 1820. [Interestingly, Monroe signed the Missouri Compromise on March 6, 1820.]

1886: 1st US alternating current power plant starts, Great Barrington, MA

    1899: Bayer patents aspirin.

1900: After a meeting in Indianapolis, a group forms the Social Democratic Party and nominates Eugene Debs as its candidate for President in the forthcoming election (becomes the Socialist Party in 1901)

1921: Police in Sunbury, Penn, issue an edict requiring Women to wear skirts at least 4 inches below the knee.

1951: The espionage trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg begins. They are accused of selling nuclear secrets to the Russians.

1962: US performs nuclear test at Nevada Test Site

1965: The US is sending Marines to Vietnam.

Stay frosty out there, friends. Events are speeding up, and words are heating up. I put the odds at about 50% that there will be armed conflict between civilians on the streets of this country, this year, and more than once. At some point protesters are going to be killed in citizens exercising self defense, and the results may be beyond the initial assumptions of almost everyone.

  7. Was sent this joke by email from a family member.

(With advance apologies to Mary, Derk, other CA folks even though you aren’t Democrats. Also, the Pope is in this joke, and I usually don’t warn for things like that but I try not make a habit of offending my friends.)

    The joke:
    X~X~X~X~X

The Pope went on vacation for a few days to visit the rugged mountains of Alaska.

He was driving along near a campground when he heard a frantic commotion just at the edge of the woods.

He found a man wearing shorts, sandals, a ‘Vote for Hillary’ hat and a shirt with ‘Save the Trees’ and the Democratic Party logo emblazoned on it. The man was screaming, thrashing all about and struggling frantically in an effort to free himself from the grasp of a 10-foot grizzly bear.

As the Pope watched in horror, a group of rugged loggers wearing ‘Go Trump’ shirts and hats with ‘Make America Great Again’ on the front and Republican elephant logos on the sides came racing up. One fired a .44 magnum slug right into the bear’s chest. The two others pulled the semiconscious Democrat from the bear’s grasp. Then using baseball bats, the three loggers finished off the bear. Two of them dragged the dead grizzly onto the bed of their pickup truck while the other tenderly placed the injured Democrat in the back seat.

As they began to leave, the Pope summoned all of them over to him. “I give you my blessing for your brave actions!” he proudly proclaimed. “I have heard there was bitter hatred in Alaska between Republican loggers and Democratic environmental activists, but now I’ve seen with my own eyes that this is not true.”

As the Pope drove off, one logger asked his buddies, “Who was that guy?”

“Dude,” the another replied, “that was the Pope. He’s in direct contact with Heaven and has access to all wisdom.”

“Well,” the logger said, “he may have access to all wisdom, but he don’t know squat about bear hunting. By the way …

Is the bait still alive or do we need to go back to California for another one?”

    Intersting tidbits in Obamagate;

The paper trail that leads back to a FISA warrant and the findings of the warrant is under control of President Trump’s White House. President Trump was not speaking from a vacuum.

There are at least 12 documented questionable wiretappings that have Obama’s finger prints on them before the Trump FISA.

Former Bush AG Michael Mukasey Trump is right that the Trump Tower was surveilled at the behest of the Obama DoOJ.

After a long meeting with James Comey, Trey Gowdy stated that “The only lawful way to get a FISA warrant is…..” Hmm.. What is Mr. Gowdy implying 🤔?

It is extraordinary that Comey is asking the DOJ to announce that President Trump is wrong especially on the heels of the FBI telling the Trump campaign that the FBI did not make public announcements about reports.

Everyone associated with Obama is using verbal gymnastics to avoid saying that yes indeed there was a FISA warrant and yes indeed Trump was the target and even though they are saying that it never happened they are also sure to say that if it did happened that they had nothing to do with it.

Obamanites are saying on national television that this unfounded claim is even more outrageous than the President Trump’s claim that Obama was not born in the United States. Whenever the democrats pull out the Kenya card they are losing and rattled.

Before President Trump’s tweets not a single democrat denied that there were two FISA warrants sought the first one was denied the second one was granted. If a FISA warrant was granted the democrats surmised that Trump was Putin’s bitch there was no other viable option.

Suddenly the democrats are scurrying like cockroaches and saying “I personally never saw any evidence that the Trump campaign has at any time colluded with the Russian government.”

    Run roaches run.

Meanwhile the new Obama narrative is beginning to take shape and it is going to go something like this “Well, as it turns out it seems that there was a server associated with the Trump organizations that sent out spam email by the millions and it seems that one, 1, uno, of those spam emails went to a Russian bank. Now this caused a lot a smoke, I mean a lot of smoke, I mean we thought it was a 5 alarm blaze, but for now we have to say there is not a fire. Silly buffoonish us 😏”

My question is, what has Comey got to hide, or what has he been promised, or both? I can’t say I ever remember an FBI director as strange and out of control as Comey. His actions seem illogical, and not even self serving to my untrained eye, just not having a rationale I can follow. Of course, I barely remember the days of J. Edgar, so strange might be a relative term here.

James Comey is a mystery. There is no doubt in my mind that the FBI announcing that it found new Hillary emails on Huma Abedin’s computer that was in the possession of Anthony Weiner hurt Hillary’s election run.

The hastily announced statement from Comey soon afterwards “There is nothing to see here folks” did nothing to help Hillary but it still made Comey look even more like a Clinton minion. Now why would Comey announce the new emails that were found? Perhaps it is true that NY investigators told him if he didn’t announce it that they would leak it and Team Hillary thought that would be worse. So a quick announcement and then a breakneck announcement that if was nothing new or nefarious.

I listened to Comey’s original presser about Hillary’s emails, watched him lay out the criminal conduct that Hillary engaged in with her illegal email and server and I literally dropped my jaw when he said they found no reason to recommend an investigation because Hillary was just plain too dumb to understand what she did was criminal so her actions were therefore not criminal.

Now Comey is demanding that his underlings launch an investigation into who had access to the the surveillance information that has come under scrutiny. Hmmm… Another admission that the surveillance was indeed conducted.

Comey said the FBI can’t publicly comment on Russiagate because it would set a bad precedent but now he is demanding that the Justice Department state emphatically that Obamagate is not true. What?

Comey does go way back with the Clintons so if I had someone giving me 2 to 1 odds on if he is dirty as a mechanics used rag at the bottom of the dirty laundry bin, I would take the bet.

I don’t think so, I can’t remember the name of the man who was fired or quit after he met with President Trump but my best bet is that he started the wheels in the Presidents brain spinning. (I can’t remember his name but I’ll look for it)

Trump said several times that he loves to read material that normal people find boring, can you imagine what a man with a mind as curious as Trumps and who by all accounts sleeps at most 4 hours a nights is spending 2am -6am reading?

Gowdy said that the FISA warrants and information is in the hands of the Executive Branch. So I think Trump was pointed in the right direction and doggedly sniffed it out.

The Left is on it’s heels, I saw an article about some moron saying that Trump used the n word on a golf course. The Antifa minions are literally going mad before our eyes aided and abetted by the Antifa -psychotic MSM.

Supreme Court says jury verdicts can be overturned due to racist jurors:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/03/06/surpeme-court-jury-deliberations-racism-mexican/95015868/

The nation continues to split down racial lines. Soon defendents will demand monochrome juries pertaining only to the defendents own race, religion, and sexual preferences. The country will not survive this.

    • I can’t say I’m surprised. I mean, I’m not happy, but when I was in my …second? year of college, one of the complaints about juries was that some people are not tried by juries of tier peers because some groups of people put no value in being a registered voter, so the hunt was on to find new ways to draft pools of jurors so that people who had no sense of civic duty could sit on juries.

Of course, the problem with that is that people who are not engaged in society will not follow societal rules, like, gee, the law they’re supposed to be examining to see if the defendant broke it. I’m sure there’s other problems but that’s the first one I noted.

Indeed. The end result, however, will be homogenous nations only. Racial makeup will matter. In the white nation, you can’t be a citizen and vote unless you’re white. In the black nation, you can’t be a citizen and vote unless you’re black. And so on. This will end all multi-culturalsim and is guaranteed to lead to violence in the U.S. It promotes racism, rather than abolishes it, by spreading mistrust.

It is the court’s job to weed out inappropriate jurors from the jury pool. The right to trial by a jury of your peers is the very last Constitutional protection of the innocent against the tyranny of gov’t.

And the 64 billion dollar question, who gets to be the arbiter of rascist? This means we have no fair trial by jury ever again, just verdicts that either don’t offend some segment of the populace in power, or those that do, and are thereby disallowed.

  14. The Tundra PA says:

Good morning friends! (still morning here in Alaska, not yet 10 o’clock) Today is the true start of IDITAROD, in about 30 minutes. All the hoopla on Saturday was essentially a parade through Anchorage for media and publicity sake. The mushers are required to attend, but the 11-mile run means nothing and does not count as part of their race time. It is fun to watch, especially when the weather is perfect, as it was on Saturday.

With 72 teams in this year’s race starting one-at-a-time every 2 minutes, it takes a few hours for whole thing to unfold. I watched a lot of it and saw many of my favorite mushers, but managed to miss #41, Aliy Zirkle. I did catch her husband’s start, #36 Allen Moore. He and the dogs looked great. Happy and relaxed. Allen runs their top dogs in the Yukon Quest, which was last month, and came in third. Aliy runs their top dogs in Iditarod while Allen runs the younger and less experienced dogs. His job in this race is to be sure the young dogs have a good time without the pressure of staying in the front.

The actual beginning of the race is called the Restart, and it happens today up in Fairbanks. Usually the Restart is in Wasilla or Willow, just north of Anchorage. Location is determined by weather and amount of snow. Snow conditions have been poor this year, so they moved the Restart all the way up to Fairbanks. This changes the first third of the race significantly, as it eliminates the Alaska Range of very tall mountains. Instead they get right on the Yukon River for many more miles than usual. Instead of climbing mountains, they are facing blistering winds for long and dogged stretches. Wind not only brings the wind chill factor into bleeding range, it is psychologically very difficult for the team. Some dogs simply refuse. This happened to Dee Dee Jonrowe years ago. Her leader laid down and refused to go; she had to scratch. This route will give some small advantage to mushers who live and train in very windy places, like Bethel or Kotzebue. Pete Kaiser from Bethel is my second favorite musher in the race, so this may help him some. His dogs are very used to wind.

The Fairbanks Restart may also help Aliy and Allen somewhat. As soon as the Ceremonial Start was over on Saturday, they loaded their dogs up and drove home to Two Rivers, which is just north of Fairbanks. Instead of the stress of 2 nights on the road between the Start and the Restart, their dogs had 2 nights at home in their own kennel. I don’t know just how much of an advantage that confers, but I do think it is something. I’m betting they and their dogs look great this morning.

There will be a livestream of the Restart beginning at 10:30 (2:30 pm Eastern) at the official website:
    http://www.iditarod.com
Aliy and her team should be taking off about 11:50 (3:50 Eastern). The weather is absolutely gorgeous here, -5 degrees and clear blue skies. Probably colder in Fairbanks. Go Aliy!

Thank you for the spot to let my love and excitement for this sport spill out!

The livestream just started 10 minutes ago. It is -16 degrees in Fairbanks and a gorgeous sunny day. The field is down to 71 teams, as another musher withdrew this morning due to his personal health reasons. With 16 dogs per team, that is over 1100 dogs at the Restart. One thing experienced sled dogs know is to “lighten their load” at the beginning of a long run. So they all take a big dump. The first 2 miles out of the starting chute and at every checkpoint is a minefield of turds. Sled dogs poop on the run.

Thanks Wooly! That’s an excellent bit of footage from Jeff King and demonstrates well the fact that sled dogs don’t stop because you yell “WHOA!” They stop because you make them, by planting that big and nasty-looking ice hook. And if it pops free from their lunging against the gang line while you are trying to get the sled righted, then they will be off and you will be standing there watching them disappear. That’s called losing your team, and it happens to every musher eventually. What you hope desperately for at that point is that someone comes by on a snowmachine, lets you hop on behind him, and goes racing off in pursuit of your team. Then you have to jump from the snowmachine to the bouncing sled in motion.

Make that huskies and I’m with you, Colonel. Aliy doesn’t breed hound into her line like some mushers have. They are going for the longer-legged look for more long-distance speed. She has kept her breed smaller (about 40 lbs), not leggy, and she believes, more agile. Agility prevents injury in sled dogs. Go Aliy!

So, last week I bought a greeting card from LovePop.com, for my folks. They make really cool laser-cut pop-up cards, so I sent the folks a spring-themed one. When you open it, a very intricate birds’ nest pops up. I think I saw it here.

But when I ordered it, I filled out the billing address (mine), the shipping address (theirs), and forgot to fill out that form that says “Message”. The folks had no idea who sent them this card. So today I get a card in the mail, and it’s that card, with a $500 check in it. I’m so blessed, it’s not funny.

The card cost me $10.00. That’s quite a return on investment. And I get the card, too!

                    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

City of New Orleans, alarmed by the local uptick in guuuunnnnn violennnnnnnnnce, OK, alsrmed by the press covering it…is creating a gun violence taskforce that will concentrate on taking illegal guns off of the city streets.
The city will rely upon its reams and reams of historical data on the problem and choose a situation that ignores, for political reasons, the true causes of the city’s violence. And be assured that no one will be profiled, that 85 year old granny open-carrying that Bible will be thrown up against the wall just as fast as that thug with the pants around his ankles. Acceptable civilian casualty levels are to be expected as ways to ensure an inclusive and nondiscriminatory way of not profiling those who beed to be profiled are worked out.
