So, I made an important discovery… I bought the ice tea maker (at the thrift shop) and I have been making delicious fresh-brewed ice tea ever since. What I found out is that you do need to remove those little paper dangly labels at the end of the string, when you put the tea bags in the hopper… hmmmm… I am looking for loose tea, but until then I am using up the tea bags… Now you know…

I use 7 of the large ice tea bags. Let me know how the loose tea works out. I make a pitcher every couple of days, so I go through a lot of tea bags.

I didn’t find loose tea at my normal grocery store. Guess I need an abnormal store.

I did some checking and all I could find was fancy, expensive loose tea and Lipton. I don’t know if the Lipton would be cheaper than the bags I buy at Publix.

Don’t most specialty coffee shops also carry tea?

I guess. But, wouldn’t it be more expensive. I would only consider using loose tea if it were cheaper than bags.

I have been told (can’t verify for you) that loose tea is of better quality than the tea they put into bags.

My favorite Chinese supermarket has a wall of loose teas. As I stood bewildered in front of it, I asked an old Chinese woman which was her favorite. That was when I discovered, “Goddess Tea”, which is a type, not a brand, and it’s my favorite. The particular brand she pointed out, which I can’t name because it’s ideograms, comes in a plain brown paper bag stapled shut with a sticker slapped on it with the brand, type, etc.

I got ticked off waiting at the register(our Bass Pro shop)… Only one open, and of course the man checking out had issues with the prices and the sales flyer… It was at least a 8 minute wait, while they sorted him out..Not the register lady’s fault, but the manager could have been smarter.

Today (Tuesday) is the last day in the season of Epiphany. Wednesday begins Lent: Ash Wednesday. The liturgical color changes from green (of manifestation) to purple (of self-examination, repentance, and preparation). In our church, we have no flowers on the altar and we do not say the “Alleluia” again in worship until Easter. There is power and meaning in the soberness and quiet reflection of Lent.
LikeLiked by 6 people
One family in our church buries a rock painted with the alleluia in their garden with their children. I saw how some parishes actually do this too.
I have said this many times. The liturgical seasons of the Church take my soul on a journey of education, understanding, meaning, and order. It leads me to Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and utter heartbreak, so that on Easter Sunday I might truly, really know joy.
I cannot experience the richness and truth of the ministry of Jesus without taking that journey. It is one of the wisest and most valuable offerings of the Church.
Thank you Mary, for your explanations. I knew about the colors, but did not truly remember the symbolism.

You are very welcome, Menagerie. I agree with what you say about the journey. What we see and experience with our senses adds so much to our intellectual understanding.
It feeds our soul, our spirit, our emotions.

1. I have to finish our taxes. There was a new type of 1099R form that I was misreading, it really threw me off, but now everything is straightened out, and almost ready to E file. This year we will get a small refund, annnnnnd we have no state taxes due. This is because SC is friendlier to retirees than PA was. With our modest finances it also made more sense to just use the standard deductions, so that really simplified things, bigly! 🙂

Now that her eye infection is healing up, she’s doing great. She eats like a little pig and is getting fat like a little pig.
She was a little over 8 pounds yesterday. They wanted her to be back to her birth weight by 2 weeks, she passed that. lol
Her big brother cracked me up yesterday when she was having a screaming fit in the car. He kept asking her what was wrong and trying to show her flags and then said, “I can’t give you a super brother kiss right now.” Then told his mommy, “she’s having a girl fit.”
He hangs out with his Daddy and Papa too much I think. lol

Both the ER pediatrician and regular pediatrician believe the hospital either didn’t get enough antibiotics in her eyes or none at all. I had actually wondered about it because it didn’t seem as if they had put hardly any in her eyes. My daughter even questioned them and they said it was plenty and in her eye, although it looked more like it was only on her eyelids and a very small amount.
Nanny survived both kids at the doctor, although the little man learned today how to push the handicap button to open the doors and I barely caught him before he ran off. He made it through two doors and was heading outside when I caught him.
Then he told me I saved his life. I swear I do not know where 90% of the things that come into his head and out his mouth comes from.

When my second grandson was born (Thanksgiving week), my older grandson was 3. On Christmas Eve, my daughter and I and the two kids were in Church (I don’t remember where my SIL was), and my older grandson took off like a shot straight up the aisle towards the doors. My daughter yelled, “stop that kid!”, and somebody did, thanks to God.

This kid is getting where he runs off in a split second. I didn’t worry about it today because he’s never been able to push the buttons before. That almost made it where I couldn’t catch up.
I’m not as fast as I once was, so if I have him by myself and am in a parking lot or near a road he either has his leash on or I carry him.

I had a similar situation. I had my son and another boy. We crossed a footbridge that was probably 20 ft long. In the middle they both jerked their hands away at the same time and took off in opposite directions. I had to go after the other child because he ran into a parking lot, catch him and run back across the bridge to find my son near a street (that had relatively no traffic). That was really scary.

Leashes solve that problem, although my grandson embarrassed me in Hobby Lobby. His is a dinosaur backpack that you strap to them and then the leash is connected to it.
So we’re walking along and he drops down in the floor on his hands and knees and refuses to get up because he’s a puppy and then a kitty as he’s crawling along.
People were looking at me like I was a horrible person.
He had done it to his mom several weeks before then and it was funny to me, not so funny when I was on the other end of the leash.

James had a leash for about a year, but we didn’t have it on him on Christmas Eve. Does help in large public places, though.

Their little minds work in their own ways and they’re usually brutally honest.
My youngest was telling this lady a story at Church once and she asked him, “are you sure you aren’t fibbing? You know if you tell fibs your nose will grow.”
He was about 4 at the time and he looked at her for a few seconds and I could see that something was about to come out of his mouth that was going to be embarrassing, so I tried to distract him, but was too late and he said, “is that why your nose is so long because you told a lot of fibs?”
I was right, I was embarrassed and she was embarrassed. All I could think of to say at the time was, “I’m sorry,” and to tell him that wasn’t nice and to tell her sorry.
She really did have a long nose and he honestly wasn’t trying to be mean, he was just being a kid thinking like a kid.

KIDDING! 😀
My uncle, who passed in front of me a few years ago, told about how he quit going to MY barber, because this old guy told him he didn’t charge so much because of the amount of hairs, but because he had to chase ’em down!
My uncle was offended, and took his nearly-bald head elsewhere.
My grandfather went to the same barbershop all his life. It was a black barbershop. His dad went there too. In 1968-69, the folks there asked him, considering the racial unrest in Chicago and Detroit, “Why do you still get your hair cut here?” My grandfather, looking askance, said “Well, because I always have!” I was never told what their response was, and I’m guessing it’s because they couldn’t.

It is a house, after all. With big, plush couches. They’re not works of art, they are objects with a function. I kinda wish half the other folks in the room were using these for their intended purpose, and being comfortable — here, in this place, with this President.
Billy Jeff took his pants off in this room, and the media is going ape over this?

Obama’s feet on the desk offended me because I expect at least a pretense of decorum from the president and because that desk is (supposed to be) a piece of US history.
Conway does not offend me because 1) she’s on the couch, not the desk, and 2) she’s not the president.

That’s not a personal issue, Wooly – you are free to express your thoughts as I am to express mine, and then each of us is free to deal with the responses as we will. Independence of thought is not as simple as it’s often presumed to be – I recognize in myself at times a tendency to fall into what I describe as ‘competitive conversation’ – don’t much like me when I do that, and believe that I should be able to clearly state what I think without going there. WIP.
There are many who have achieved (or never gotten over, in some cases) the “I don’t give a damn what anything thinks of what I say” way of communicating. I would like to be able to clearly say what I mean without being hyper-concerned about what others think. Not there yet. As I said: WIP.

Seen on Facebook. I know the name of the person who posted it, but can’t verify if it is his friend who emailed him:
From a friends e-mail:
Just in case you don’t think President Trump is doing the right thing regarding the immigrant crisis! Read on and pass this on to everyone you know!:
“Yesterday, at the hospital, we had a meeting about how the situation here and at the other Munich hospitals is unsustainable. Clinics cannot handle the number of migrant medical emergencies, so they are starting to send everything to the main hospitals.
Many Muslims are refusing treatment by female staff, and we women are now refusing to go among those migrants! Relations between the staff and migrants are going from bad to worse. Since last weekend, migrants going to the hospitals must be accompanied by police with K-9 units.
Many migrants have AIDS, syphilis, open TB and many exotic diseases that we in Europe do not know how to treat. If they receive a prescription to the pharmacy, they suddenly learn they have to pay cash. This leads to unbelievable outbursts, especially when it is about drugs for the children. They abandon the children with pharmacy staff with the words: So, cure them here yourselves! So the police are not just guarding the clinics and hospitals, but also the large pharmacies.
We ask openly where are all those who welcomed the migrants in front of TV cameras with signs at train stations? Yes, for now, the border has been closed, but a million of them are already here and we will definitely not be able to get rid of them.
Until now, the number of unemployed in Germany was 2.2 million. Now it will be at least 3.5 million. Most of these people are completely unemployable. Only a small minimum of them have any education. What is more, their women usually do not work at all. I estimate that one in ten is pregnant. Hundreds of thousands of them have brought along infants and little kids under six, many emaciated and very needy.
If this continues and Germany re-opens its borders, I am going home to the Czech Republic. Nobody can keep me here in this situation, not even for double the salary back home. I came to Germany to work, not to Africa or the Middle East!
Even the professor who heads our department told us how sad it makes him to see the cleaning woman, who has cleaned every day for years for 800 euros and then meets crowds of young men in the hallways who just wait with their hands outstretched, wanting everything for free, and when they don’t get it they throw a fit.
I really don’t need this! But I am afraid that if I return home, at some point it will be the same in the Czech Republic. If the Germans, with their systems, cannot handle this, then, guaranteed, back home will be total chaos…..
You – who have not come in contact with these people have absolutely no idea what kind of badly behaved desperados these people are, and how Muslims act superior to our staff, regarding their religious accommodation.
For now, the local hospital staff have not come down with the diseases these people brought here, but with so many hundreds of patients every day â this is just a question of time. In a hospital near the Rhine, migrants attacked the staff with knives after they had handed over an 8-month-old on the brink of death, who they’d dragged across half of Europe for three months. The child died two days later, despite having received top care at one of the best pediatric clinics in Germany. The pediatric physician had to undergo surgery and the two nurses are recovering in the ICU. Nobody has been punished.
The local press is forbidden to write about it, so we can only inform you through email. What would have happened to a German if he had stabbed the doctor and nurses with a knife? Or if he had flung his own syphilis-infected urine into a nurses face and so threatened her with infection? At a minimum he would have gone straight to jail and later to court. With these people so far, nothing has happened,
And so I ask: Where are all those greeters and receivers from the train stations? Sitting pretty at home, enjoying their uncomplicated, safe lives. If it were up to me, I would round up all those greeters and bring them here first to our hospitals emergency ward as attendants! Then in to one of the buildings housing the migrants, so they can really look after them there themselves, without armed police and police dogs, who, sadly today, are in every hospital here in Bavaria.”
Is this “situation” coming to your country?

Of course they are besides themselves, but his issue was caught before he just had a major heart attack… He might have been driving, his normal 95 mph…. I think his angels must fly fast.

Why the Central Valley votes more conservative
By Victor Davis Hanson
February 23, 2017 Updated: February 26, 2017 8:09am
http://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/article/Why-the-Central-Valley-votes-more-conservative-10954783.php
“Urban elites seldom experience the full and often negative consequences of their own ideologies. And identifying people first by race, tribe or gender — by their allegiance to their appearance rather than to the content of their characters — has rarely led anywhere but to tribalism and eventual sectarian violence.”…
“Voters in key swing states got tired of being talked down to — as if their views on illegal immigration, abortion, identity politics, fracking, campus speech codes and the environment were the result of ignorance (or being deplorable and irredeemable) rather than due to honest differences of opinion and quite different life experiences from those of big city-dwellers.
Red-state America felt that those who lectured about the dangers of school choice often seemed to put their own kids in private academies.
Those who insisted that open borders were good for the country never seemed to live in neighborhoods side by side with undocumented immigrants. Walls on the border were proof of ignorant xenophobia; gates and walls around private tony residences were logical measures to ensure security.
Those who praised sanctuary cities certainly would not approve of other jurisdictions likewise nullifying federal laws that they too found bothersome, whether federal gun registration requirements or the Endangered Species Act. Fairly or not, for the hinterland, the election became a referendum between crude authenticity and polished hypocrisy.”….
