How about “cruises for the poor”? Anyway, I have been on a couple trips where there were groups of mentally handicapped adults, that someone has treated to a cruise. They looked like they were having a blast. That seemed like a very, very nice thing to do.

          • Okay, mentally handicapped I’m okay with if that’s a thing. It does seem like a nice thing to do.

No cruises for the poor. If they can’t pay their way they don’t need to go on any taxpayer’s dime. I’m tired of “poor people” in this country having more then the middle class!

I used to have a retirement job, driving for a company that provided transportation for seniors, and welfare people… The seniors could schedule a trip(shared) for $.50 welfare recipients got free transportation to all their free medical appointments. The funny thing is it cost the company more than $.50 to do the accounting for the fare,,, but it was a matter of pride for the seniors. They wanted to pay. I always enjoyed driving the seniors.

          Yes.

The concept of acknowledging, “There are things I would like to do that I can’t afford to do, and therefore I will not expect to them” has long disappeared into the smoky ruins of personal ethics. About two-three generations ago, I would estimate.

Fifteen years ago I was program director for a ‘seniors program’ (not poverty-related, only age-related) in our small Minnesota town. I almost didn’t take the job because it was a ‘non-profit’ (which just means using other people;s money to do the job) – anyway, I took the job.

At of the state meetings, other program directors were arguing for more and more and more grant-gifts to the seniors (just because they were seniors) in terms of covering living costs, and I raised the question, “Where does it stop? Seriously. Where does it stop?”

If you can make an argument for the out of pocket or OTC meds, then why does that same argument not apply to their bath towels? Or their bedding?

And I pointed out specifically the issue in this link – “What if we decide they can’t afford a vacation? Where does it stop?”

The other program director got very angry at me, claiming I was distorting her reasoning.

          Of course, I was not.

I was simply extending it to the logical conclusion.

Funny how that doesn’t go over so wello when groupthink rules.

About the time of the Fluke fiasco, I was following the conversation of a rather distant relative on Facebook. This young woman was advocating for fre birth control and free tampons. I just don’t know where the brainpower of the human race went, but we have to be dumber than we used to be.

            • Apparently the young woman you were dealing with did not have a stake in the game.

Fluke infuriated me, simply because she was going to $30,000/year (at least) Georgetown while I was at the time still at my local commuter college and working two jobs. She can kiss my backside.

Since you asked. I think you need a doggie companion. She won’t replace Stella, but she will add to your life. I selfishly got an older dog because I didn’t want to deal with potty training in an apartment. If you are worried about someone taking care of her if you can’t manage later on, choose somebody and set it up beforehand.

A couple that live here never had a dog, but her elderly mother was lonely after her father died. So, they got her a little dog. She enjoyed the dog so much, then after several years, she got sick and died so the daughter and SIL kept the dog. They were a little concerned about taking on the responsibility, but they just love having him. He is really enriching their lives.

Last night’s Mardi Grad crash is starting to winnow out. Drunk driver is 25-year old male and it looks like he will ve thin pickings for the tort lawyer crowd. Still no spin from his side, no defense lawyer to be seen yet but if he’s looking for a public defender he’s in for a wait as the state only has about 20% of the public defenders it needs….not enough $$$$$ to hire them.
Seems what saved the situation was the driver hit a garbage truck and that slowed him down before he nailed the crowd more worser. Body count sits at 28 injured with 21 opting for a trip to the hospital, had that trash truck not been there there’d be dead bodies in the mix.
Msyor gave his usual BS ‘say something just because he feels the need’ speech, saying he’ll look at closing the opposite side of major streets while parades are ongoing (don’t bet on it). Most telling was not a word from him as to cracking down on drunk drivers during Carnival, most likely as being totally-sotted-s@@tfaced during the entire Carnival season is not only a sacrament but a mainstay in the city’s funding.

The breeder has three females of breeding age, doesn’t breed them until age 2, then twice, two years apart, after which they are ‘fixed’. She has a total of six dogs right now (plus the puppies). She sounds like a true lover of her dogs, they live with the family in the house, and she is quite concerned about where her puppies are going. She has already sent me masses of pictures, and will continue to update week by week.

Yeah, those are breeders you want to deal with. I remember having to get vetted for Zauber, including my vets getting letters. We had contracts to sign with non-breeding agrements. Breeder stayed at the Detroit airport until the pkane he was on took off and called me so we could be at the NOLA airport to get him as soon as he landed.
I would love another GSD but, asI said, someone keeps arranging otherwise…

This breeder has sent me quite a few pics of all of her dogs, and about 20 texts discussing and asking questions. She won’t let her dogs go to a home where the dog doesn’t live in the house with the family, or where they don’t have a fenced yard or other area to run.

This might interest you. She advises not “fixing” your dog until after age one. This came up because I told her Stella had ccl (ligament) surgery on one leg and damage to the other rear leg. There is increased risk of ccl problems later in life, as well as hormonal imbalance issues, in dogs that are neutered prior to one year of age. I since found info on line about this, and it appears legitimate. I’m thinking about it.

Agreed totally. Your spaniel is a medium sized dog and won’t have finished its growth until at least 12 months. Those doggie hormones have a function in growth and I don’t like messing with Mother Nature. A responsible owner can keep his/her dog from making unwanted new dogs until the ‘time’ comes.

She also told me that she will spend about 1-1/2 hours with me on the day I pick up the pup, going over paperwork etc. I vaguely remember doing that with Stella too. I will visit the breeder (since she is local) in a few weeks to see the dogs in person. She won’t release the puppies until they are eight weeks old (which makes perfect sense).

In the last 35 years Czarina and I have bought exactly one dog, Zauber. Every other dog or cat, and there has ben a ton of them, just show up.
First dog we had together just saw us one day while we were out on a walk and stayed with us for the next 17 years. He died while we were building up here and, about three months after we moved in with Z as our only dog…Daisy shows up at our mailbox. Three years later, just before Zauber passed, I found BD 95% dead by the side of the road. Two years ago puppy Cherchez is at the same msilbox and last summer Lucky is in a box in the middle of the road.
That doesn’t count cats, they just move in and make themselves at home and everyone just flat gets along.
I flat forgot what it’s like to shop for a dog, someone keeps delivering them to us on acregular basis like Nutrisystem..

I’ve never bought a dog, other than adoption fees from a shelter. I have bought 2 Persian kitties in the last 25 years.
I now have a kitty that I’m taking to the vet for shots next week. I wasn’t sure he would survive this long.
Last Christmas, a pitiful black cat showed up on my front porch that looked so awful, I started to call him “Zombie”. But I thought that was cruel, so we called him “Boo”.
He looked like he had been either hit by a car, or savaged by a coyote. He smelled like a dead thing, and I was in no position (financially) to take someone else’s cat to the vet. I really thought he would just die, but I gave him some food and water, and let him sleep on the porch in an old dog bed.
He now seems a lot better, and he is really affectionate. He’s solid black with pretty green eyes, but his mouth is all jacked up, and can’t meow much. He just sort of hisses. He also still stinks a bit, but not as bad. I hope the vet doesn’t charge a lot, because my hubby wants to take him to be put down.
I’d appreciate a little prayer for poor Boo, that he isn’t totally hopeless.Thankx ya’ll! You guys are the best!

our lakehouse is a secluded circle of houses, many permanent residents…constant animal dumping…we just plan for flea control and fence in our area to prevent conflicts…but the worse are cat dumpers, as cats can life as ferals and make tons of babies…there is a push to catch, spay and release the females back to prevent additional ferals from being conceived and the population reduced. animal shelter charges 35 bucks to take an animal in, and dumping costs a couple of gallons of gas in the car….

My last and latest doggie was dumped at 5 weeks old at a Valero filling station over Memorial Day….I took him home with me, and now he is a loved family member…turned out to be an Australian Cattle Dog…full of life, and loves our female dachs…they have become a hoot to watch as he tried to “herd” her….sure…dachs don’t herd…..

He thought a small Jack Russell Terrier would be perfect… We discussed names, more than once, and he wanted Stella, after the dog on the Red Shoe Diaries. Long story short, Dh was a dog trainer and had clients etc…. one of them had rescue Jacks, and her friend was a private breeder,,, who had the perfect puppy…. It was a bit older, 3 1/2 months but the best pup ever… the breeder wanted Dh’s client to have this sweet young dog…The only big issue was that the puppy already had a strange name,,,, and you guessed it.. her name already was Stella…. Did you use the new name while feeding, petting or giving her positive attention? I really don’t think dogs have names for each other, I believe they just learn to associate that particular vocalization with something positive. Daisy and BD had ‘names’ prior to ending up here but adapted to their new ones overnight. I can yell ‘Calvin Coolidge’ and havecat least two show up.

If I were in the states I’d send at least 5-10 postcards to the President so that the target is reached. Considering how much flack he receives, I think this is a nice gesture. Here’s the post:

“Trumpsters are sending a card of encouragement or Thank You to Trump. All of us are mailing them on the same day, March the 15th.

Hank Aaron holds the record for the most fan mail at 900,000, we want to set a new record, we want to send witty, bright messages and thank you’s, about our country, and what we want President Trump to accomplish.

You can use an unlined 5×7 card, post card, or just a regular card.
Mail them on March the 15th to:

    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
    Washington, DC 20500

Can’t identify today’s photo, but also looks like something from the Amalfi coast, to go with the Cathedral of St. Andrew posted previously.

Stella, have you watched Monarch of the Glen. They have the series at Netflix. It is about a young man whose father tricks him into coming back to his home and wants him to become the next Monarch. I really enjoyed several seasons of the show, until the guy who plays the Monarch decided he didn’t want to do it anymore. It is in Scotland, in a town where there was absolutely nothing to do and the weather was ALWAYS cold and damp.

I DID watch that entire series and enjoyed most of it; I agree that the last bunch weren’t very good. Remember when his father died (blew himself up, if I remember correctly)? I really liked the mother, and Lexie.

The mother was played by Susan Hampshire. She is so beautiful, has such a sweet voice, and moves so beautifully. If you look her up, you will find she has been in all kinds of things, including the Forsyte Saga. And, yes, I liked the Dawn Steele, the woman who played Lexie, too. And, I adore Richard Briers, who was the older Monarch.

I am watching Them! After I wrote that last post, I looked up and there was James Arness. My heart did a little flip. I always loved him, especially after I read about what he did during the war and how he limps because of an injury in the war.

Mom, you don’t remember this, cause your too young, John Wayne gave James Arness the introduction to Gunsmoke. Gunsmoke was considered an adult western, the themes and Ms.Kittys low cut dress………

Yes, I am old enough to know that now. And, when I was a about 12 we used to play Gunsmoke and I always got to be Miss Kitty. The reason was I was the only one mature enough to wear the formal gown that a friend’s mother gave us to play in. An orange tree was our stagecoach and doubled as Matt Dillon’s office. The only thing I knew about Miss Kitty was that she was pretty, got to wear beautiful dresses, and loved Matt Dillon.

James Arness was in at least a couple of John Wayne movies. Did you know he was a war hero in WWII? He got a Purple Heart. I believe he lost part of his foot, or at least it was injured and he had a lot of operations on it. This caused him to limp sometimes. I noticed that when he was in Gunsmoke.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Since it is late and no one will read this, a small piece of hope –
Seems Kim Dotcom escaped extradition from NZ to the U.S. on copyright infringement. Dotcom is being extradicted to the U.S. for RICO charges.
Am thinking Clintons here. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

I have had a very terrible day. I have two cats and a dog. The dog is/was four years old. They were all suffering from ear mites. I used medication on the two cats, and while tying to treat the dog, he attacked me. He tore up both of my hands, and I had to body block him as he went for my throat. On my way to the hospital I called my neighbor to put the dog down. He missed and now the dog is in the wind. He had never shown aggression before. He was the love of my life. I am in a severe amount of pain and my heart is breaking. I don’t know if he is alive or dead, or suffering. Please say a prayer if you could. My two cats are stressing, because they were all very close. Also please excuse any typos, my hands are not working very well right now.
