It’s become another majorbpatty theme/event in NOLA. There are many open parties, parades and other activities including the large Voodoo Fest that attracts an international crowd. Just about all of them center around booze with a heavy drug theme going through all, with Halloween being right up there with Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest as crowd drawers.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
From the beginning it has been foretold that evil would veil itself as good. How many people believe they are doing good when they are doing evil? How many people think it is virtuous to support a woman killing her baby in the womb. How dark and deceptive the shadows of the Father of Lies are.

Howz about some happy stuff??
Today is the Catholic Daughters of St. Micheal’s Church annual fashion show/luncheon. The above mentioned Catholic Daughters do the modeling, and they are decked out with clothing from Chico’s. This is a big deal around here, it is a very pleasant event, in a swanky country club. My neighbor will be one of the models, so I am bringing my camera… The funny thing is that the Catholic Daughters generally keep the cash bar buzzing!! Bloody Mary’s start promptly at 11.

I wonder how thick the irony and hypocrisy was at the Oscars?
I’m guessing “bunker buster” bombs wouldn’t cut through it.
LikeLiked by 5 people
I can’t bring myself to even watch the Oscar reports, bever mind the narcissist fest itself. I got dis-gusted many years ago when it first dawned on me that certain actors made more money playing a member of the military in one movie than a real number would in fine careers in the military.
Remember when actors like Reagan, Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, George C Scott, Fonda and others served instead of, like later Hollyork hypocrites, blasted, insulted and belittled the military andbits members?
Now their managers read focus group reports and polls to give them the opinions they have and have carefully told them not to be harsh on the military. Actually, like Obama’s spinmeisters, it would be helpful to their images to be seen with soldiers, especially damaged ones. Right now it looks as if, since large scale ops are over, to justbgo back to ignoring them.
Where are those AQ and ISIS hashshadhins when they could really effect hope and change?

Jimmy Stewart’s college degree and extensive flight time played to his favor, and he received his commission after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Because he had logged over 400 hours as a civilian, he was permitted to take basic flight training at Moffett and earned his pilot wings. During the next nine months, he instructed in AT-6, AT-9, and B-17 aircraft and flew bombardiers in the training school at Albuquerque, N.M. In the fall of 1943, Stewart went to England as Commanding Officer of the 703d Bomb Squadron, equipped with B-24s.
He began flying combat missions and on March 31, 1944, was appointed Operations Officer of the 453rd Bomb Group and, subsequently, Chief of Staff of the 2nd Combat wing, 2nd Air Division of the 8th Air Force. Stewart ended the war with 20 combat missions. He remained in the USAF Reserve and was promoted to brigadier general on July 23, 1959. He retired on May 31, 1968.
When Stewart returned to acting after the war, he continued on his career as a top actor, starring in movies like It’s a Wonderful Life, Rear Window, and The Spirit of St. Louis. Upon retiring, he had accumulated 12 civilian and military medals, two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, and numerous Lifetime Achievement awards from different institutes.

The most surest sign that Mardi Gra is here, the annual ‘greasing of the poles’ at the Royal Sonesta hotel. It started some 47 years ago to prevent drunken revelers from climbing the poles supporting the balcony around the hotel’s 2nd floor but evolved (or devolved, your choice) into a Freudian, junior high school themed, bacchanal with hundreds of drunken viewers (some sober ones too) clogging the street. I’ll have to admit that when I first heard about this I thought it was ‘the greasing of the Poles’ and I was a bit more enthusiastic but…….

I don’t know how much time the word “modern” covers – but here’s one example of what it’s been for a very long time.
My older son is 50.
When he was in 6th grade, he brought home a ‘grammar worksheet’ which had been completed by him, and given a grade of A.
He had done every single one of them wrong.
He had a long list of:
do’nt
ca’nt
does’nt
wo’nt
etc. etc. etc.
I had an appointment with the teacher set already so took the paper along and pointed out the fact that the entire paper was done wrong.
She looked at me quite startled and began to correct me (gently, so she wouldn’t hurt my feelings). I persisted in my stubborn point of view.
We ended up in the principal’s office.
Principal looked embarrassed.
I persisted.
Principal acknowledged I was correct, of course, and assured me she would explain to the teacher. One of my experiences of rage in which I did continue to use my inside voice. Now I think I should have gone straight to the outside voice and stayed there.Except that using the outside voice makes ya tired.

My daughter is a year younger than your son. Her high school English teacher told her that spelling isn’t important. I told her that spelling IS important in my house, and that we have a good dictionary to use, if you aren’t sure (since this was before we had a home computer.) Her spelling is excellent.

We moved to GA from CA when my son was in the middle of the 1st grade. He had that exact problem. I can’t remember how many words he spelled wrong because she had such a thick southern accent. So I had to work with him and say the word the way she did and then teach him to spell it the correct way.

My oldest son came home in the second grade one day to tell me about the new kid who just started school. He had a speech impediment, and my son wanted to befriend him and help him adjust. Of course my son just said he couldn’t talk right. Turned out he was from up north, and the kids in his class thought something was wrong with him.
Teacher got hot and informed all of us that our kids talked “wrong”. I never did like that beyotch.

Wasn’t it just yesterday that some goof was telling Tucker Carlson that he was a wretched person for saying that according to the goof’s definition of gender that there was nothing to stop a male from entering female sporting competitions?

CYPRESS, Texas (AP) — A 17-year-old transgender boy moved within one match of winning a Texas state girls wrestling title.
Mack Beggs pinned Kailyn Clay to improve to 56-0, putting him in Saturday afternoon’s championship match.

What the?
Am I the only one who sees a problem with this? Lemme guess, he’s just “gender-questioning” so he feels like a girl to compete against girls so that he can win matches without having to compete on an even playing field. Isn’t that sexist against girls to make them face a biological male in a sports match for girls?
The more I see of modern education, the more glad I am that I was homeschooled. We didn’t get sports but we got an education, and we weren’t taught that we could be whatever gender we felt like.

I just reread the article Mack Biggs is a xx female taking testosterone to transition into a male.
They say the testosterone Beggs has been taking while transitioning from female to male has made him too strong to wrestle fairly against girls. But state policy calls for students to wrestle against the gender listed on their birth certificates.
Seems to me that testosterone shots should be banned if they aren’t already from female sports competitions.

Somehow that manages to be even worse. She’s becoming a he and is still allowed to play on the girl’s team?
I’m all for enforcing the idea that biological gender doesn’t change, but this is a thousand levels of screwed up.

OK, sports fans, more tales from the VA.
Let’s say that you have a relative who is incapable of living independently as age has taken its toll. Said relative sawcthe possibility and accomplished a will and a durable power of attorney at a military installation using the military HAG services.
Now the relative is living with you as age-related mental issues has left the relative with nomother option than a nursing home. You find out the relative is eligible for a Federal VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation payment as relative’s military spouse died from military-related causes and go to file.
First, even though the VA already has the military spouse’s death information as part of an earlier claim by thst spouse, and the proof they were married you hsve tomfind and submit all medical paperwork again as well as certified copies of the marriage certificate. Then the VA has five or more months to look it over, they may or may not compare it to what they already have on hand but if they do and see whst they think is an inconsistency, the ride starts over.
Meantime you file forvthe DIC itself. You submit a notice of intent to file so that payments, when or if approved, will start on the day the intent is filed rather than far in the future when the casevis decided. You include the VA form, a certified copy of the power of sttorney and a letter from the relative’s neurologist that the relative is not capable of msking a rational decision. You submit and wait…wait…wait…
A few months later you get a letter from the VA saying the request is denied as the intended recipient did not sign it. You call the VA and you are told that the VA is the only Federal entity that refuses to recognize a civil document, they do not recognize the powers and the recipient must sign the document.
You call your lawyer’s office and explain the situation. Your lawyer says that were the relative to sign it while you have a document from the doctor saying that the relative is not capable of understanding the document you’ve opened up a can of your own worms. The VA, if they wished, could say you committed fraud and relatives, no matter how distant, could throw any will into legal hell for the same reason. Kawyer suggests going to court and, despite the embarrassment, expense and time/inconvenience involved, get the state to declare the relative incompetent. Lawyer says to call the VA and see if that would suffice.
You call the VA again and they say that even a court ruiling the recipient incompetent is a civil matter and they do bit accept civil judgements. The VA explains that she must sign the paperwork, period. You go vack to your lawyer who says that regardless of whatbthe VA says, the relative’s doctor having attested to the relative’s inability to make a rational decision means I could be prosecuted for fraud if the VA so chose.
You guessed it, back to the VA. They say that when the intended recipient, and only the intended recipient, signs the request fir the DIC their regional office will appoint a guardian for the recipient. The guardian will meet with the recipient and proposed caretaker(s) after the VA runs a complete background and credit check on everyone in the house. The guardian will mert with the recipient wherever the guardian wants to and question the recipient as to what the recipuent’s wishes are. The guardian and not the doctor or court will decide the recipient’s competence. Were the recipient having a functional but not coherent day, and wish that the woman at the corner gas station manage the recipient’s VA-related affairs the VA could make it so.
Back to the lawyer. After explaining to the lawyer what the VA said the lawyer said the meeting, and any other meeting effecting the recipient’s VA affairs, to protect everyone’s rights, especially as criminal violations are possible. Also that the VA should provide a checklist of what they are looking for in a home suitability check, if it’s that same criteria they’d use in a nursing home check and if the lawyer would be allowed to be present. VA said that everything was up to the guardian they’d choose and the guardian could refuse any and all requests for accommodation.
None of these conditions exist for other VA claims, they’ve just reached way up their bureaucratic butts and created a whole new set of criteria for this one program. It is time for this monster to be neutered.

Czar can said attorney send a certified letter to the VA with a copy attached of the VA letter where they are advocating for a party to commit fraud by having a mentally incapacitated person sign a legal document? The VA has asked someone to commit fraud, someone has documentation of this. An attorney should be able to light a fire under their bureaucratic rump.

VA will say that their regs state the appointed guardian will make the determination, period. If you disagree with the guardians decision you get to appeal said decision on your case all the way thru the ponderous VA system until you win or have to go to court. There are agencies all through the Government where barely trained clerks get to make decisions that effect lives.

That’s the VA. If there are any readers out there who seved in Vietnam, even one day, and you have a number of covered medical conditions, especially type 2 diabetes, you can app,y for an ‘automatic’ VA disability. Trust me, automatic means that you submit your paperwork via UPS or FedEx bulk rather than freight-rate on an 18-wheeler. AND they say processing time is a miniscule 5 months or so as compared to the regular geological time.

We hired a lot of people, even supervisors, from a local university that was nationally recognized by NGO rating folks, as the worst college in the nation. I know that the U was widely touted as some place to go and collect Fed loans for six or more years then drop out and go on welfare. Feds hired a lot as it was a ‘special’ college and really, no one else who ran a for-profit business would hire from them.
Now I can just imagine where the VA would recruit from in the city that would manage my case.

I’m presuming they’ll send, at best, some shake-and-bake BA-level social worker if not an off-the-street clerk. I know we hired, as I stated below, from a local PC university.
I can imagine some PC clerk coming in and saying (translated into Standard English for your convenience) :” I know you rural Southern rednecks all gave guns in the house so hiw many, where are they, how securely are they stored and let me see how easy it is to get to them!” So e local physicians were already pressured to ask that but stopped ad it made their patients uneasy…very very uneasy. How about asking someone with advanced Alzheimers if they feel safe and secure in their environment?
I amn not about to have some off-the-street minibureaucrat start questioning how I care for a relative and I’m afraid that at some point my reactions mightbjust get me into trouble. Best if we just don’t pursue this VA avenue and let those welfare-to-work employees sit back, read the paper and wait fir retirement to roll around.

VA’s undoubtedly got my name on a dart board from over 40 years ago when I was a thorn in their bureaucratic side. I know they wrren’t happy to see me when I showed up with cae after case of Xeroxed government evidence that, among other things, the PTSD they were claiming didn’t exist was actually studied by the VA starting back just after the Civil War.
OK, correction, at that time it was called ‘delayed stress syndrome’ and the VA can save face by saying it didn’t and doesn’t exist. They took DSS, changed it to PTSD, said they discovered it and then said they needed time and a gazillion dollars to study it again. Finally, after decades of ‘work’ and the PTSD-related deaths of untold vets, they announced it existed and they needed more money to treat it.
Yeah. I’ll take that shot now and make it a tripple.

His death was Agent Orange connected and he was part of the final settlement – after the pot of money was divided up, the lawyers got thrir fees and he was filtered thru the settlement algorithm they used decided how much you got she received less than $100.
The VA was pissed they were forced to accept Agent Orange as a condition just as they are still fighting Gulf War Syndrome and stonewalling a lot of GWOT vets.

This lasted about 6 months as he got weaker and there was no income other than Momma’s. My younger brothers were still at home and one was still in school. Stella was a plucky, sweet little trooper. She and you taught us what a life well lived – even at the end – can look like. She was so so very lucky to have you. You put her quality of life first – every time. Thank you for letting us care for your girl.

I live way outside the city and get to oook at it with a safe detachment and thru the prism of having been in the middle of it, plus I still gave some friends who still live it.

Exclusive: Sean Spicer Gives CNN Public Dressing-down in Press Gaggle
http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/02/24/spicer-cnn-dressing-down-press-gaggle/
White House Press secretary Sean Spicer angrily confronted a CNN reporter following a story reporting that the administration pressured the FBI to publicly “knock down” Trump-Russia stories in the media.
The gaggle, which took place Friday morning, was described as a “background briefing” by the White House. It included the White House press pool and was expanded to include a CNN reporter as well as reporters from ABC, NBC, Fox Business and Fox News. CBS was in the pool.
Spicer went on the record to confront CNN in front of their colleagues in the White House during the briefing that occurred in his office.
…
The White House maintains that FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe approached White House chief of staff Reince Priebus to discuss the misleading story in The New York Times, that he described as “bulls**t.” That meeting occurred on February 15, after the New York Times published the story.
Priebus asked McCabe if they would correct the record, which cited sources claiming the existence of an FBI investigation into “repeated contacts” between Trump aides and Russian intelligence.
The CNN report claims that this meeting violated “procedures that limit communications with the FBI on pending investigations.”

On a good note, I got my first shipment from wine.com. Drinking a bit of Italian Pinot Grigio right now. Lovely treat.

I just got my 900th shipment from the local beer store.
The Natty Ice is exemplary. Redolent of kerosene, bathtub cleaner, with subtle hints of lemon grass and hops, with bitter citrus notes.

Just so you know, my wine is of the lower cost variety. I joined their club, so shipping is included in the minimal annual membership.

You should see the wine list at my new job.
The owner knows wine, speaks at seminars about wine (and food, and the industry).
We have bottles on the list that cost well over 200.
Our servers get tipped well, on slow nights. I’ve been dropping subtle hints that some high-end restaurants have the dishwasher get tipped out at the end of the night. You know, just the good ones. 😀

My textbook this week talks about how “we need to understand why criminals do what they do.”
And people in my class believe this tripe.

Also, the link to what we had to read online dealt with the criminal justice sentencing in the UK. I have no idea what the UK has to do with the US criminal sentencing system.
I’m confused. But at least I’m no more confused then normal.

I ordered (and received) a special card for my DD and SIL’s 20th wedding anniversary next month. They are a bit spendy, but very cool. The one I got is the willow tree.

A normal card is $5 something with lights or music is $7, so those cards don’t seem that spendy, considering how beautiful they are.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen

Truck plowed into a Mardi Gras crowd in New Orleans a couple of hours ago; 12 (or more) people critically injured. Looking for more details, but here’s this to go on:

More like the number of beat-downs he’ll get at the OPP for causing the city such an embarrassment.
Oops, OPP is Orleans Parish Prison. Part of the punishment is having to walk around the jail in overalls with ‘OPP’ stenciled on your back.

Guaranteed it’s all related to booze. This is thebmost drunkenest weekend of thevyear as we aim for Fat Tuesday in three days. Bars open 24/7, unbelievable amounts of alcohol being consumed, people smashed from the time they get up until they passout. How many y’all got resturants that sell breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner and snack drinks?
Mine was bloody mary or salty dog.
No Moslem fundamentalists here, they’re all cowering under tables waiting for Lent.

I doubt he was in the area of the incident. These parade routes are miles long and areas such as where this happened are largely locals.
So far no reports of parade float riders being injured. The riders stage at various places where the load their ‘throws’ after getting dressed at their ‘den’. Drinking usually etarts at the staging area though more than a few start long before that, and drinking continues on the floats during the parade, you’ll see the riders sipping from plastic cups as they ride/throw, and those cups ain’t got Gatorade. Before the city mandated the riders had to be securely belted into their floats you’d get numerous reports of riders ‘accidentally’ falling from their floats with ‘accidentally’ being a euphemism for ‘drunk on their a**’ . You’ll still see riders so smashed they can barely stand up but at least now there’s little chance they’ll drop out of the sky on top of you.

Didn’t see you’d posted this, thought the Mardi Gras casualty list was a niche interest. Before I retired the city’s guestimate was that on a given night, after 7 PM, some 30% of the drivers on the city streets were legally over the limit. During Mardi Gras the numbers are even worse. City says it doesn’t have the officers or it’s too disruptive to have drunk chrckpoints on the roads but they jiust don’t want to PO residents and tourists who are lit up.
Latest word on the guy shot while in the porta potty is that he was carrying an illegally concealed weapon and, whatever he was doing in the can, it accidentally discharged. .
Police calling it a perfect example of an ‘oh s*** moment’.
Body count on the truck incident seems to be settling in at 21 with no deaths. However, recent reporting says at leadt three accident-injury lawyers were injured rushing to the scene.

Agreed, this is a desperate attempt by the Rats to tape their broken party together. Perez represents the shrinking ‘conservative’ Rats while Ellison represents the (cough, choke) prog side. Perez barely beat Ellison and his immediately picking Ellison for the number two spot (and he makes a perfect ‘number two’) was his grasp to save what of the progs he could.
Let’s see if the Republicans throw away the best shot st fracturing the Rats that they’ve had since 1980. Don’t bet on it, though, unless you got spare money you don’t need.

The more I think of this tweet and its coming from the figurehead of the Rat pack I can’t help but wwobder if this Leninist-lite isn’t presaging their arming and turning loose theit Bolshevists-of-color wing as they did in the 60s and 70s?
So far we’ve seen Obama try to whip his dissatisfied welfare parasite followers into attacking police and anyone else who didn’t support the collective. They’ve tried to fortify their prog ranks with Moslems whom, I’m betting, they hope will join with the radical elements who’ve been a mainstay of Rat disruptive forces for decades.
So let’s see which necrotic wing of the Rat party will win the battle for whst passes as Rat souls, the violent consumptive/nonproductive progs or the slightly less putrid ‘conservative’ whites trash side.

Awwww riiiiiiite, the body count goes up! A heavy truck, allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver ( as if they come in any other flavor here) veered off course and plowed into the crowd watching the Endymion parade. Between 21 and 28 injured (city’s all over the map on the count) and so far no deaths. Wow, Mardi Gras the Video Game! See if you can play for three days and not get shot or injured!
