Morning all… Yup it’s Friday all right. ‘Sposed to be even warmer here, yesterday was record setting.. Possibly a beach day, if it isn’t too windy. Which makes me think that a kite would be nice… hmmmmm

There was a bit of a “discussion” next door about the White House Marines,,, you know the guys that stand at attention at the door…. Very interesting job….. so I found this explanation about the selection process: http://usmc.yuku.com/topic/21505
The process is extremely selective because of the security clearance. That and they are not allowed to be married with a family. Next time you see them on the news, solemn and standing at attention, know that they are the very best of the best…

I saw a Facebook post that said thousands of Marines have volunteered for Trump’s White House, but that for Obama, no one volunteered and they all had to be assigned.
I was unable to verify that with web searches, and asked the guy for further corroboration, but got nothing yet.

There is a process to select those White House Marines.. That is what the discussion was about… From what I have read it starts right from boot camp, and it is a very involved process. Everyone is asked, the detail is voluntary, and the selection is complicated because of security. What I saw is that there isn’t a lot of information out there… so rumors can fly around.. willy nilly. THere may be other military positions at the White House that involve military people,,, IDK, but that Marine detail is very special.

We will be going back to the mountain cabin in northern Georgia. Lazy days at the lake, beer and chicken wings at the Blue Otter, trips down to Helen…. I miss it.

Wow, lucky you. I will be here, hiding out inside my air conditioned apartment for the duration. Oh, except for a week next month when I will get to go stay at my friend’s condo at the beach in Ormond Beach.

Mom, just no sunbathing on the beach for YOU!!!! Last year you caused the air traffic to divert from their assigned headings/altitude, pilots were commenting about ” the hottie sunbathing on the beach”, that caused a meltdown of air traffic control. So please do not sunbathe on the beach…….thank you!!!!!!

85 here yesterday, quite a few above normal but dry, clear skies. Fruit trees are blossoming/leafing out about a month early – horror of horrors, we’ll have fruit a month early. Curse you, climate change, for giving us peaches in June!!!

Red maples and cypress are budding. Lakes hitting low 60s so white bass are nesting. Had an old friend out on the lake fishing but they were only catching perch. Spring a month early ain’t such a bad thing.

Sad story we had some boys whose parents didn’t warn them of the power of an M-80 or they were just being foolish and they lit a bunch off in one of those outside metal garbage cans, one boy was killed from the shrapnel and 2 other were hurt.

So sad. It is hard to keep children from doing things that could kill them. They just don’t believe it. My son was really good about listening and minding. And, then, when he was about 19 he made a remark that my car would only go 110 MPH………….wait………what?????……….How did he find that out? By driving it as fast as it would go, of course. He told me this years later. SMH

Nope not me and I’m probably one of the few women who does not like her.
More than half the crap she cooks comes from a can, jar or box, which nothing wrong with that unless you’re pretending to be this farm woman cooking like a farm woman.
Now I will admit I haven’t watched every show of hers and actually have only watched 3 of her shows, but the three I watched she opened a can, a jar and a box and added some packaged ground beef in one, a package of pork in another and a package of chicken in another.
My beef, pork and chicken doesn’t come in grocery store plastic.
To give her credit though she is helping her town, people are traveling from all over and waiting in line for hours to go into her store.

I like the website, which is where I began following her, long before the tv show or her books. I enjoyed her story about how she met her husband, fell in love, and married, which was originally serialized on the website. In the cooking section on the site, for example, there is an article (not written by her) that discusses how to make vegetable broth (or chicken). That is something I do in my own kitchen, and it is good info for someone who never has done it.
ADD: While I envy your home-grown chicken, beef, pork etc, 99% of us buy our meat at a market of some sort.
I agree that she has done a lot for her local area, and I believe she is a good role model for young women. She is not afraid to talk about going to church every Sunday, and she doesn’t discuss politics, which is a welcome respite now and then!

I also know people who knew her before, I’m not a fan, but won’t tell things told to me that I didn’t experience or witness. Her husband on the other hand I’ve never heard a bad thing about. From the same people he’s the type of man who will literally give you the shirt off his back.
Just to say I didn’t like her before I ever watched her show and really didn’t like it when I saw her cooking things basically from a box because it doesn’t truly represent “pioneer”.
I realize most people get their meat from the store, but most people aren’t portraying the farming world either.
I know she says her beef comes from their ranch, but the ground beef I saw didn’t come from being home butchered or any butcher I’ve ever used. They don’t package meat in styrofoam. It’s packaged in either butcher paper or vacuum sealed.

Not quite sure, coffee hasn’t hit yet and I’m outta meth…Wally World’s late on their deliveries.
Czarina and I were feeling good yesterday and we felled two trees in the 40-foot range, linved them, chopped them up into 2-3 foot chunks, moved them to the burn pile and toasted ’em. Aside from the chainsaw the only major mechanical item we used was the ATV to move the filleted trees. And we felt pretty good through it all, a bit tired but really all right. Then we got up this morning.

To me the best way to deal with these school problems is at the local level. If parents yook back oversight and control of the local systems THEY OWN (they seem to forget that) things would settle down. You don’t think twice about letting your dog run freely without supervision but the oarents turn the schools loose and take scant interest in what they’re doing to and with our kids.
Took us just over two years, lotsa meetings, doing our homework and getting Feds involved, finding a law group that specializes in education-based suits…but we got what our GGS was entitled to because we pushed back. At the same time we still run into parents who complain their kids aren’t getting what they should get, what they’re entitled to, but just ‘don’t have the time’ to do what we did.
The mess is too big to attack from above, just like politics education is all local.

11 AM news is all on about a triple shooting in NOLA last night, more Mardi Gras gunnnnn violennnnnnce. Usual areas involved, no one identified but that indentifies those involved.
Why is it that in our primarily European, Christian rural to ruralish area, awash with guns, our ‘people shot per 100,000’ ratio is so much less than those urban ‘civilized’ areas?

People are funny. This morning on Facebook, I made a comment on a “friend’s” post that was mildly critical. The man proceeded to insult me, several times, in his quest to “beat” me and “win”. I commented that I would no longer be commenting on his posts.
He sent me a very nice private message, saying he recognizes that I am a patriot, and that he values my friendship. [ADD: He actually apologized.] I didn’t answer that message, but I wonder why he didn’t say the same thing in public, while letting previous public insults stand.

Well, my computer had the flu and just got it back after ten days or so…..that always seems like such a massive experience even when it’s not.
So hi again everyone……I’m in a crappy mood today and haven’t been sleeping well and don’t feel good.
All of the treatment combos and two of the individual chemo-entities I have received/am receiving, while wonderfully successful, are new on the scene (some since 2011 and one since only 2014) so I have also figured out that the aftermath, side-effects are NOT “the same as cousin Tilly experienced in 2005 or 2008. The way this stuff was/is used on Triple Negative breast cancer wasn’t even in view at that time – all new applications/outcomes in the last six years. I’m certainly not complaining – absolutely note. My sister-in-law died from breast cancer about 7 years ago, and my brother has said more than once that he recognizes almost nothing of the sequence and content of my treatments the last year – in terms of overall procedure.
I’m just realizing that my expectation of “feeling all better” very soon has absolutely no basis in studies or experiences – and I will likely do better if I don’t assume that I will feel significantly better – open-endedly – any time soon. More contentment there, most likely. Just adjusting.
Not feeling good is really not the end of the world. I’m just generally irritated by it and I think I need to get over that!…… (Lots of people haven’t felt good their whole lives so big deal to that….) I hope most of you know me well enough to understand these expressions. If you don’t – just ignore it! I still can’t taste or smell most of what I eat – and that’s tiresome….since August…..
Successful research is moving so fast in some areas that the people who researched what I’m on now have already moved on to some other new exploration (which is wonderfully good) and there’s a new group of people now evaluating followup studies, etc. and looking for related applications, perhaps.
The cancer industry (not meant to be derogatory – just think of what’s involved in the railroad industry – believe me, it’s an industry) is moving so fast. And a lot of it is just flat amazing.

One of my cousins is undergoing radiation therapy right now for breast cancer. She posted a pic of her raw underarm, which looks extremely painful; she has two more of those treatments to go. She said she has DCIS which was caught with routine mammograms and ultrasounds (she has every six months), and it is very early stage but high grade. She had a lumpectomy at the beginning of December, I think, so this is part of her follow-up treatment. A few years ago she had some kind of blood cancer, which she beat, so I hope this is the end of it.

This. Sick and tired of being sick and tired… It makes perfect sense. Even if you are not looking to feeling better, a whole lot better in the near future, I hope you have a way to distract yourself. Making an adjustment like that is admirable, I am not sure I would be that smart or gracious. Bless and keep you.

You’re in our thoughts and prayers. And yes. this industry is moving at warp speed. My mother went through chemo 25-30 years ago for Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and what they do today is light years different. Back then, the cure was more likely to kill you. Which it did in her case. None of it is “good”, but it sure has come a long way. Keep the faith.

Ha! Yes indeed! I have specifically said out loud to my oncologist, “Cancer has never given me one sick day since this started – can’t say the same for the treatment.” She didn’t seem to be amused. She’s probably heard that before. (Ya think?)

If not, she needs to hear it. Unfortunately, oncology is unlike dental school where they often practice a number of procedures on each other. Here, not so much. Keep up the attitude and the altitude my friend.

It’s okay to feel bad.
If there’s one thing I learned form being chronically ill though, it’s that it’s okay to feel bad, but try not to wallow in the feeling.
I hope that makes sense. I don’t know how else to explain it.

Oh, good grief, yes and yes. If I am EVER caught actually wallowing, get word to Weed right away and she’ll take her trusty shovel and- – – – well, she knows what to do. And if she gets way too enthusiastic about it (she and I sometimes relish such things!! 🙂 ) stella will slow her down just time – love y’all.
My wailing today is my choice to consciously acknowledge that it’s not all easy. It doesn’t all get better real quick. I have spent way too much time in life carrying on as though, “Hey! I got this~” and have learned in the last ten years or so that there is indeed an appropriate time to say, “Ya know what? I DON’T ‘got this’ and I think I’m just going to sit here with my friends for a few minutes and let them see that which I often conceal.”
