For the first time in my life, this year I have enough medical expenses to help out my fed income tax because of some dental work. I don’t know how much it will help.

THis is when I am thankful for our modest income… sounds odd, but it makes doing taxes so much easier when you can just take a standard deduction…. instead of itemizing….
I was worried that being married would really be a penalty,, so far I just don’t see it that much.

I use HR block software, and they will tell you right away which is better. Taking a look at “what ifs” is why I like using the programs.. that and it helps when it is time to E file.

For the past two years, I haven’t had any income, but I file anyway in order to get a property tax rebate from the state ($1,200). Next year I will be forced to withdraw from my 401K account, so I will have some income, once again, but have more than enough deductions.

the swimming pool pictures just scares my mortal soul to the foundation…..do not like heights….had to buttcrawl to the edge of the Grand Canyon to look down….did NOT like it.

My first trip to the Grand Canyon was during a snowstorm (actually blizzard). The next morning we got up and walked to the edge of the canyon, which we couldn’t see because of the fog in the canyon went right up to our feet. We sat on a bench hoping the fog would lift, finally got cold, and left. Years later we went back. I nearly passed out when I saw that bench. It was on the edge of the canyon and there was NO guardrail. If we had stepped just a few feet more toward the canyon, we would have stepped off the edge.

Dh and I started down that long rim trail. We were only going to go a couple hundred yards, just for the views, well, he got about 50 feet, turned green, and we had to call it quits… 🙂

Morning Figments!
Yesterday, I was a lady who lunched! The small Mexican restaurant was so authentic that the waitress could not speak English, beyond a word or two. It was an experience. So this is an example of the immigration issue becoming very real and personal. This was a nice place, the food was excellent, very fresh and reasonable. But. sighs I guess it is wrong to make assumptions….

I think we must insist that our government enforce the law – both on businesses and illegal immigrants. It isn’t our jobs to be vigilantes. Of course, we shouldn’t knowingly hire illegals ourselves.

We got whole neighborhoods that are ‘authentic’ if that’s the criterion.
I like Mex resturants thst serve a more authentic menu rather than the same old limited crap you find coast-to-coast, that Mexican McDonalds. There was a real resturant (authentic by the linguistic criterion) that served primarily the Mexicans who worked in the sock factories in a very small Alabama town. Discovered it when my bud who lived there and they’d serve us as nuestro dinero es verde. I love the authentic dishes and they made a couple of my favs.
We have an authentic Mexican family who, thru the economic realities of owning a Mex resturant in a rural town, have to have a lot of El Miguel D stuff on the menu. They do have some morecsuthrntic stuff, they do make their refied beans from scratch with mucho ajo and fry them in real lard….screw the Center for Science in the Public Interest. They’re trying bring on more stuff but in a Taco Bell world it’s tough.

I love visiting Chicago for the food – and authentic Mexican is one of the things I like. There is a Mexican market a couple of blocks from my DD’s house too.

We had a real Mex market in town but I guess the real Mexicans wanted real American. You’d see the Mexicans in Walmart or Winn-Dixie and Gringoes in the MexMart.

They have a meat counter, and coke made with sugar. When I was there, my SIL bought their beef fajita mix. I don’t think it was any better than the ones I make, actually.

once went into the town open market in Los Moches Mexico, where the sold meat to the public…the flies were everywhere, and then I saw the intact severed cow heads up on the top shelf…..thereafter, I went for cheese and chicken for lunch…..talk about LARD in the beans…that is the MAIN component of refries….and they sell it in our Mexican Markets in Texas by the number 3 washtub full…..I think they must lube their pickup trucks with lard even….

Yup, I can remember the flies in the Mexico City meat markets in the mid-50s when we’d vscay there. I thought thst flies were a condiment there.
As for the lard, y’all notice the taste difference in chicken or fish when deep fried in lard versus in some canola crap? Lard is a gift from the gods, you can even deep fly Mex meat market goods on it.

When we lived in Texas they made fresh tortillas right in the store and would hand the kiddos one to eat as we shopped.

My aunt, who was in her late 70’s at the time, stopped at a little Mexican restaurant near her home that she had never tried before. She asked for a burrito or taco. The one woman behind the counter seemed confused, didn’t seem to know what to do, but finally came up with her order. A couple of days later the place was raided and closed down. It was just a front for selling drugs. They never made food. LOL

try the kids in Public School re speak NO English….I have been “teaching” a class called “English for Math”…kids are from Honduros, Columbia, Mexico, etc…..speak NO English at all, yet are supposed to learn enough quickly to take Algebra I taught IN ENGLISH….and to READ the books…makes NO SENSE…kids are a lot nicer than those that have sneaked into the country via parents etc….they just don’t care…these kids WANT to succeed.

Yeah, first generation kids tend to ve pushed by parents…if parents are pushy. For over twenty years the children of Vietnamese immigrants were constantly the top achievers in NOLA public schools, top grads and top recipients of scholarships.
Overbten years post-Katrina the parish school board is back to pushing as hsrd ad it can to drag the schools back down to a pre-Katrina level the immigrants would recognize from their 3rd world lives. Looks like we’re going back to that inclusivist mantra that equality is everything so if you can’t drag the flotsam up you hammer the achievers down.

I think this is the old Soros plan that was hatched well before the election repurposed to capture as much if the Left’s energy resulting from Trump’s win.
Soros planned on a Hillary win and her help in the plan to infect the US with millions of immigrants, as well as the granting of citizenship to those illegals already here. They could be planted in ‘purple’ states to shift them to blue, and that combined with Hillary and the Rat virus moving to make Puerto Rico and DC states would cement the creation of the People’s Democratic Republic of Kleptocria.
They can still keep the program simmering but now they can add the peripheral garbage that’s been endlessly going on about how their Spanx goddess was robbed. When life hands you lemons, make political activists. They take their propaganda crew, do some targeted rewriting, and energize society’s dross. Would that we were as successful in energizing youth to the concept of working for a living.

It’s politics, you can’t trust anyone or their motives. I was shocked he picked Reince, there’s acreason you keep your enemies close but this guy should have been drowned in the Tidal Basin. Maybe they are using his squeeze to plant stories but there are other political strategists and insiders I see as more trustworthy. Then agian that’s why I’m here and they are there…at least when I wade thru BS I know from which stock it issuith.

Thanks! I am really interested in seeing this. I am wondering if Milo will state that he is filing a lawsuit. He made a post on FB about CNN being sued for fake news after all the nonsense hit the fan. One thing Milo isn’t, is stupid. I suspect a lawsuit is in the works which is why he took his live video response down from FB after it was up for only 10 minutes.

I watched the video as well. Too had most of the New Commentors Next Door just jumped on the hysteria bandwagon. This Milo thing is much ado about nothing. Conservatives should be using this fiasco as a club to bludgeon the Left over their pro pedophilia stance (which they are now trying to whitewash.)
People who keep company with the likes of Lena Dunham ought to be careful about the accusations they make against others.

Nickerson is a despicable human being and Salon should never have allowed that article. The left is only tolerant when it’s in their interest.
I do feel bad for Milo, but I’m not surprised by this. Never Trump folks and leftists will not stop attacking anyone they see as successful. Milo reaches an audience the left is terrified to lose. He is teaching college kids to think for themselves, which is anathema to them, so he’s the enemy. I do believe he’s the little fish though and the goal is to get Bannon and Trump.

I don’t know what bothers me more, that the Left is attacking, well, it’s not that. I’m used to that. The Left is always at it. It’s the reaction, for example, of the people Next Door that bothers me. Some of them didn’t stop, didn’t think, didn’t question a thing but ran with this story and made Milo out to be the scum of the Earth. I’m not saying he’s a good guy, but I watched the video and I don’t know what these people are talking about. I’d like for them to get a life, and beat the Left over the head with this (Seriously, people who approve of the behavior of Lena Dunham do NOT get to throw stones.). But they’d rather throw Milo under the bus.
It really is true. Evil will always triumph, because good is dumb. 😡

A 14-year-old child bride from Syria came to Sweden and became pregnant with her husband, who is also her cousin. Now a Swedish court has approved of her marriage, because she appears “mature,” and for religious and cultural reasons.
