Got one computer workin’ at home. After a whole bunch of money for the new rig. Back in the big city for that 4-letter word thing. Gonna need some of this. Coffee up y’all. A couple rough patches for now, but they’ll get this ship on the straight and narrow in no time.

Not a guessing game this time: it’s a “tempest in a teacup”.

Ha, mixing idioms again–“storm in a teacup”/”tempest in a teapot”.
I should have settled for “a cup of Lapsang Souchong, mid-brew”.

Well, in the IMMEDIATE vicinity, the choice is quite limited. The Mortlach is long gone (and the bank loan for another bottle has not yet been approved).

BTW, I’ve found iced tea with fruit brandy a great way to kill brain cells on a hot day.

Will keep that in mind for a hot day.
What do you suggest for unseasonable downpours, flooded garages, crumbling spillways, and a Democrat chokehold on the state legislature?

More brandy, less tea and a move to a less vexing location.

Go straight to the moonshine. For a chilly night I recommend heating your appleshine in the microwave about twenty seconds. For a relaxing drink, try the blueberry or cranberry. For a warm afternoon you can enjoy the lemonaid version. For a really tough day, just put the plain stuff in your coffee.
Yes, I have these wonderful varieties and more on my shelf. As I have a relative who appears to be dedicating his life to developing new shine varieties, I am about to clear off a shelf just for it. Who needed canned peas and rice anyhow?

Mary: at some point both may become doable. I see where wealthy southern Californians are migrating to northern Idaho where they are setting up their private nirvanas.
We loved NOLA but things just got untenable unless you live in a safe and walk with armed guards. Rats, four and political legged, were onfesting the city and the Powers decided that after Katrina the city was best transformed into a giant, plastic, adult theme park.
We live about 60 miles from NOLA now and we see take-home police cars from NOLA and surrounding jurisdictions in town here all of the time – many of the cops that work the city and surrounding jurisdictions live with their families outside of the city. Hope it diesn’t get that bad for you.

We had 35 degrees yesterday too, and it was THE PITS. Even rained for about 2 hours. Rain in the winter in Alaska is truly the worst. Puddles on top of the hard-surfaced snow make it slicker’n goose snot. Cars slide off the road right and left. Just walking to your driveway can end up in a serious banana-peel incident where your heels kiss the sky and your head gets a hard bonk. Today we are back down to the 20s and that standing water has become another layer of ice on the snow. If you’re wearing Ice Bugs (google ’em, they are great) it’s no problem.

czar, a couple of questions for you. Regarding yesterday and your request that I ask Trump why he (re?)appointed an Obummer guy to head of the VA, would that question be better directed to Sean Spicer? (He is the president’s spokesman, correct?)
Also, we were talking about North Korea the other day and I have another question: what is holding that failed state together? I mean you never hear of any exports, and the people are starving. Is China all that’s left holding that place together?
LikeLiked by 1 person
That was heavily snarc. Trump is starting to disappoint me, I find myself making too many excuses for his waffling and ‘questionable’ decisions. From ‘rip down the walks and rebuild the VA’ I’m starting to see him saying that maybe we need an insider to tweak the processes and slowly change the internal structure. Appointing an Obama bureaucrat vice some firebrand businessperson who’s been injured or has had a friend/love-one injured by the VA is troubling…no, pisses…me off. The VA doesn’t need Mr Green Jeans to weed it, it f*****g needs Pail Bunyon to deforest and replant it.
The exvuse that this needs to be done slowly to prevent a disruption in services is BS. A nation that could put a man on the moon, start to finish, in just 8 years can clean up the VAugean stables without damaging the residents. Reagan couldn’t even deal with the VA in his eight years, the proof of its needing to be nuked is there for Trumpnto see and I’m not seeing any action.
NK has a huge, well-fed Army and a Stasish secret police. It wholesale throws anyone even remotely suspected of not drinking rvety ladt drop of the Kool Aid into gulags while keeping all proles on the edge of starvation. That’s the ultimate Obama social control.
NK sells its weapons technology all over the world and is RUMORED to, for a cut of the profits, serve as a cutout for China’s sale of banned military technologies. It also made not only tons of illegal drug precursor chemicals (at one point they made enough pseudoephedrine that every resident there could have five pounds) but illegal drugs for a certain well-known Asian crime syndicate to sell in Asia and the US. You get the idea, eh?

Well, Trump is swimming upstream here and the waffling, cowardly, foot dragging Republicans are not helping him*. Bureaucracies have an annoying habit of digging in when they don’t get their way. Look at what happened to Flynn. I’m not saying there’s nothing Trump could be doing, but there’s a lot that needs done in DC.
Personally, I think we need to force Congress to only use the VA for their healthcare. It would be fitting punishment for them, IMHO.
Wow. Yes, I do get the idea and thank you for the info. I was trying to puzzle that out the other day. Looks like we need to choke out a lot of drug smuggling in this country. Maybe it will have the added side effect of choking out these cartels in other countries.
*I’m not happy about have an “R” behind my name. I got it in the primaries to help Trump stomp on Bush and Cruz, and was warned Next Door to hang onto it because it may needed during Trump’s presidency in case we need to primary some RINOs, but I’m not happy about it.

Granted he’s swimming upstream but if he wants to swim more than four years he’d better about draining. I get the feeling I just heard a collective sigh of relief from the VA bureaucracy when Shulkin was annointed. I’m dealing with two VA issues right now, I’ll post on the most egregious one eventually, but little has changed in their insulting dealings with vets over the decades.
Yes he has to deal with the VA bureaucracy but the best way go deal with Federal bureaucrats is to use another loyal-to-you Fed bureaucrat against them. For those questioning the concept of a ‘loyal’ Fed bureaucrat the easiest way to round one up is to find one in bed with a young boy or a farm animal…not all that difficult in DC. They are also cannibalistic. Promise a lapdog rat s/he can have the seat of your target rat and you’re in.
There are ways of dealing with the VA, making the intrenched afeared of your mighty lash, you can’t be gentle with them, especially as they’re working overtime killing vets. You think back to the late 60s/early 70s when POd vets occipied VA facilities to protest shodfy treatment thry were getting then, you’ve got a lot more vets now and a growing sense of anger…the problem may self-resolve right soon.
Nice thought, having Congress use the VA. Senators can already use Walter Reed but do you think that they received the same shoddy treatment that caused the investigation on military patients there? What makes you think Congressjerks wouldn’t walk right ovet bleeding vets to get their Viagra rations?
LikeLike
I love your plan of playing these groups against each other. Have you sent the president your resume?
I don’t mean that Congress should be allowed to walk over Vets. Congress should get the whole experience: the endless waiting and forms, having their appointments magically vanish from the calendar, that sorta thing.
Vets actually served the country. I remain unconvinced that the same is true about Congress.
LikeLike
It’s not my plan, it’s a standard tactic inside the cannibalistic system, they just don’t expect it to be used against them by an outsider.
Didn’t think you meant vets should be walked over by Congress, in any event Cobgress has been doing it for decades. Only thing harder to find in the ranks of Congress than a moral person is a vet; then in McCain’s case….well, you can see where I’m going.
Back in ’87 I was posted to a big mobey guy in the RNC for the convention. At the end, after over a week of driving him and his family around and making sure the more feral Rats in the city didn’t harm them, he asked me ‘if there were anything he’d like me to havevhim do’. I knew that I could have gotten a job on DC, he was far enough up in the Party to where he was onevof the first on site when AF One landed, but I politely declined. Working in DC even during my TDYs there left me feeling grimy and my feelings about working there haven’t gotten no betterer during the intervening 30 years. And there’s the fact I’m not a billionaire…not even a millionaire actually.

“A crowd of as many as twenty thousand people in Milwaukee demonstrated against a possible immigration crackdown in a Day Without Latinos march Monday, according to the UK Daily Mail.”
“They were protesting Sheriff David Clarke’s plan to enroll his deputies in a federal program that allows them to perform immigration law enforcement functions. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said that it hasn’t officially sought that authority yet, but may do so.”
“Clarke, a man impossible to bully, released a statement on his Facebook page last week regarding the event: “Please accept my regrets. I will be working with agents from immigration and customs enforcement helping them identify criminal illegal aliens and therefore cannot attend your rally being held for me.” LOL Love it. 🙂

I’ve always had fun gaming out the scenario: “A day without white people.”
Everyone in America wakes up one morning, and all the white people are gone.
Day one is Loot-fest day. By day 2, there is no electricity, wireless network, or internet, or food deliveries, or supermarkets. All those looted electronics, game systems, and iPhones don’t work, ever again.
It would be a great dystopic SF/F novel.

You need to go no farther back than Katrina to see the results of the entitled suddenly left to fend for themselves. Hordes of milling entitled aimlessly wandering or helplessly gathering in herds demanding that the government come to their aid. Feed me, water me, transport me to pickup points, trannsport me to someplace where the entitlement scenario can start anew. The spinners, out of embarassment largely, refacted the narative to make it seem less of the hordees fault for not being prepared despite all of the warnings, but a failure of the keepers to shepherd their charges.
Yeah, a day without the warders is like a day eithout sunshine.

According to the news, the Superdome filled with people taking refuge from the storm was a nightmare.
Imagine if it had been filled with Boy Scouts.
LikeLiked by 2 people
For days before the storm the mayor was on the TV telling all that the Dome would most definately NOT be opened as a shelter of ladt resort. What he didn’t do was arrange for the city RTA busses and the school busses to be gassed up and ready to transport the thousands of residents who had no transportation to safe sites. The busses sll flooded in place.
At the last minute they oprned the Dome but had no emergency power, no sanitary facilities to handle a no piwer/no water situation, no foid or drinking water and no pkan on what to do with the peopke who sheltered there. The excuse that this was unprecedented was pure BS as just a few years after Hurricane Georges where the Dome was opened and the shelterees no provided adequate food, water or sanitary facilities. That all went to **** and that only lasted a daynor so, it was a harbinger.
Also, no one remembers the Morial Convention Center fiasco. The convention center runs for about a quarter of a mile along the river front and it was opened to receive thousands of refugees who couldn’t make it into the Dome. It also lacked any supplies or facilities and was every bit as bad, if not more so, than the Dome.
In short the city government for decades lied to the public about its ability to deal with a major hurricane, failed to do the most basic of planning for their safety and even after thrir failings were exposed refused to take any responsibility. Then again with a city full of government benefit recipients and a solid Rat government it was no wonder their plight was Blanco or Bush’s fault.

I remember reading back then that there was a plan, but they decided it wasn’t adequate. However, if they had used it, it would have solved some of the problems.

Part of the refacting. Just a few weeks before K I was at a city disaster planning meeting – great time for a meeting, eh, half way thru the hurricane season. We joked, at the end of the meeting, there was a backup plan…if it all went to hell we’d backup, blame someone else and have the Feds pick ip the pieces.
The ‘pkan’ excuse was a thin tree to hide behind. The city had no fuel, food or supplies stocked for its own 1st responders. No emergency shelters or backup comms. No emergency equipment, they’d rely on the National Guard facilities st Jackson Barracks vetween NOLA and Chalmette, They had all sorts of heavy vehicles, generators and supplies and in 200 years or do had never badly flooded. Guard even left all of its equipment and supplies there…it flooded badly and ruined everything there.
The I-10 Twin Spans over the Rigolets between NOLA and Slidell were closer to the water than the I-10 Escambia bridge that was ripped up by a hurricane the year before. No one made plans to deal with that eventuality.
There was a plan, problem is there was no PLAN. There was a slap-dash plan that was a plan in name only, a piece of paper created to salve a need rather than solve a problem. Probably stored right next to that plan to deal with Godzilla were he to rise from Lake Pontchartrain.

Note to Sharon:
My mom got the hardcover MBOB I ordered yesterday. On Valentine’s Day!
How cool is that?
She loves it, too! (I knew she would.) Her words:
“I have been reading many books by Lauraine Snelling… she writes about her people coming north to Dakota in the late 1800s. So much history there. The book you sent dovetails with what I have been reading… so fun, and totally Christian based. I will totally enjoy Mailboxes and Old Barns. I wonder if Sharon has seen Snelling’s writing? Thank you again for a great pick-me-up.”

All righty then! So now the world will know I have a false name FB account! This is Meadowlark/Sharon/MBOB thanking stella for puttin’ me through! I don’t “do” FB at all – just set up an account years ago so that I am able to see the photos of the grandchildren posted by my sons – 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grands and one expected this summer. I really didn’t know they don’t “allow” a false name and apparently my actual innocence on the subject persuaded them to give me a pass.
Woolly, I really wanted to respond to your sweet comment and the kind appreciation of your Mom……my desk top computer fell apart on me yesterday and is at the hospital….and my laptop was not recognized by WordPress….and I can’t find my WordPress detgails…….so there ya go! My life goes just fine – untilo it doesn’t!!
Anyway, love you and love your Mom’s appreciation for my little stories. Please give her a greeting from me and best wishes for all the best memories that we carry around with us. Thank you for thinking of sharing my stories with her.
Hope I get my computer back tomorrow – it’s sort of like my relationship with my ten year old car: As long as nothing goes wrong, I’m a really good driver. One little thing goes wrong, I could just as well not have a car. But I’m blessed. Iz ok!!
Love to you, Woolly. and a hug to your Mom!

I’m reminded of a term: intelligence gain/loss (IGL). IGL is an assessment of the relative merits of:
a. using intelligence to attack or defend against the enemy, thereby letting the enemy know you have collected on him, or
b. absorbing short term loss to protect the fact that you are collecting on an enemy, thus preserving your source of collection.
The leaks that brought down Flynn will prove to be a relative IGL failure for the Left. Flynn was the easiest of targets to discredit (IMO the weakest link in Trump’s WH).
And yet the Left chose to expose the corrupt Deep State to bring him down. It’s like a country using its only nuke to destroy a platoon of cooks.
That kind of strategic stupidity can only be perpetrated by a group of assholes who have no idea how much danger they are in of extinction. The Deep State is populated by just that kind of asshole.
Press on with the agenda. Discover and prosecute the assholes responsible this time. Install a cadre of deputy secretaries and IGs who will install and enforce policies that will expose and destroy the rest.

From above link:
Simple high-intensity sound causes the inner ear to generate nerve impulses that register as sound. Since the inner ear also regulates spatial orientation, saturation of the inner ear by high-intensity sound may cause spatial disorientation. For example, loud music was used by American forces to drive Manual Norriega from the Vatican Embassy in Panama in 1990.

As much as I dislike people sneaking over the boarder, somehow shooting them seems a bit, well, messy.. Acoustic weapons can be used, I think, in varying degrees,,, they can disorient, cause pain, cause damage,, depending on their strength. So, there is flexibility. Knock them out, safely, and send them them back…take a fingerprint, and if it happens again, make it count somehow.

That’s funny. On Pandora™ I hear an ad a lot for a home security system, and, in the fictionalized account, the alarm goes off, and one burglar says “C’mon, let’s get atta heah!” in a New York Italian accent.
“Yo, lets bounce!” would be more in line with reality, but advertisers know that portraying reality is racist. So, in every single home security system ad, the burglars are white guy caricatures.
Even in an ad for a military product, they follow the MSM rulebook. The fictional rioters have to be white guys.
I’m so sick of that crap. It’s so tired.

Was deputy commander CENTCOM when Mattis was there.
A very good man. Not optimal… that would have been Stavridis (who is a Russianist). Harward is a special warfare guy with Southwest Asia emphasis… which is not what we need right now. But, things can change when the heat turns up. Qualities: Fearless. Strong intellect. Knows how to give advice quickly and emphasizing all the key issues. Doesn’t take political crap off of the peripherals. Knows how to build consensus. Fights like a sonuvabitch.
He knows how to take orders. He’s Mattis’ guy (close relationship, forged at CENTCOM). And Mattis has the president’s ear right now… which is a very, very good thing. Trump can only benefit.

There’s a Msrdi Gras tradition of putting seats on top of ladders for kids to sit on and see the parades over the adult heads, even a cottage industry making them…the ladders, not the kids.
Problem is that idiots go and, days ahead of time, line them up and chain them together along parade routes to save spots. Not unusual to see one child for every ten ladders. To make people who’re upset as, when the go to the parade route they’re stuck brhind a wall of ladders, the city passed a law forbidding ladders to be erected so many hours before a parade and maling it illegal to chain them together at any time.
Mayor was on the TV today blathering on about how the city wouldn’t stand for this, that, or the other behaviors during Mardi Gras with early/chained ladders being prominent in his speech. Just jow TV news had a live crew on the parade route (dead crews start to smell in warm weather) beaming back video of a great wall of unattended ladders blocking blocks along the route. City is saying that the illegally placed ladders are ‘subject’ to removal, not that they will be removed. We didn’t remove them while I was still suffering thru the season, it’s selectively enforced like so manymother laws the city passes.
And we wonder why we have such a world class crime rate.

‘Inside Edition’ just ran a piece on the long-defunct Six Flags theme park that infects the eastern part of New Orleans.
It was a pipe dream pre-Katrina, built in hopes that it would spur growth by the unknowing in New Orleans East. From day-one it had problems, I can remember my job giving tickets away as they tried to make it fly.
Come Katrina four foot wall of water hit it and stayed for a while, giving the then park owners the chance to collect insurance and run, leaving the destroyed park right back in the city’s hands. It’s been under city mismanagement ever since, one huge weed, broken equipment and brush filled vacant lot.
I’m guessing the city talked First Edition into the bit because it’s desperately trying to rent/lease/sell the white elephant again. We now have levees ‘protecting’ it that are a good bit higher than the speed bumps that were there for Katrina but the hint is that there’s been scant development out there since Katrina as flood insurance is astronomical. So if uou’re looking for a huge weed and brush overgrown lot where you can dump bodies, do drug deals, cook meth….well have I gotta place for you. If, by chance, one of you’s alookin’ for a park that is still vulnerable to flooding, is located in the middle of nowhere, you have a steamship full of money to dump into it and don’t mind dealing with corrupt officials at every level…we can do that too.

There is a Great America 6 Flags about 45 minutes from Chicago it is always packed. They filed for bankruptcy years ago but that is about all I know about it.

City collaborated on the building of the many-millions -of-dollars psrk out there NOT because there was a market for it but in a desperate hope that a park would bring people there and it eould explode in a flurry of growth. They’ve been trying to get growth in the area for decades and as it’s always been subject to flooding and is a high crome area. Modt foljs with cash and a yen to open a venue thst would attract families and people who don’t wear their pants down around their knees move out to more civilized Jefferson Parish right next door. Government’s more honest, police more effective and residents largely more…law abiding.

Here is a video I found. I think the video is bizarre especially the song that is playing, perhaps it is supposed to make people feel nostalgic? I don’t know the story behind “Old Chicago” but I think it was to rehabilitate an area and encourage growth. I’ll ask my dad or friend who can likely tell me what the real reasons behind it were.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

Opening night, Desert Storm. Helicopter group was sent out to whack the Iraqi forward radar posts and give the attackers a few more minutes before the Iraqis knew they were coming. A film we saw later, that was taken through the night vision gunsights, showed the Iraqi radar station from the chopper’s position, hovering just off of the ground, a mile or so away.
The engine has mufflers but they don’t silence the noise and there’s still the low frequency ‘whump’ from the blades beating the air and the vibrations of the displaced air hitting the ground. The Iraqis in the station must have felt or heard something because suddenly the door opens and you see a blob of bright green as the light spills thru the open door. It dims a bit and as the chopper gunner increases the magnification on the camera you see outline of someone standing in the door, hand raised to shield his eyes, staring out into the desert. He feels something’s out there but just can’t see it…then you see a missile fired from the chopper, a clear tracer on its tail, heading right into the open door at high speed. You don’t as much see him as the missile passes thru the doorway…and him…but you see the flash as the blast goes thru the door, windows and then the walls blow out.
